Ovipoet: Thank you very much. I made enquires from someone very current, a "Professor" and found out that you can be taken with evidence of PhD registration after your MSc and if your Bsc grade was second class lower. Although what you explained here is very correct and accurate, as it will give you a better edge. But it happens that people are still taken without completion of PhD as a criteria......... Thank you dear... You're welcome. |

drpialabi: bros i hail u o. But do u think we really follow all these in naija. I know a dept in a famous uni in naija where 3 of their L1s dont v phd yet Yes, serious Universities follow these guidelines in employing Lecturers today. Now, about those three Lecturer1s, one scenario is that they came into the system a lot earlier (ie before the strict enforcement of the policy)and just stagnated. There are examples of Professors who dont have PhDs. Perhaps they were granted a moratorium along the way. Another scenario is that they came in with a 2.1 and a Masters and so they started from Graduate Assistant/Assistant Lecturer up to where they are currently. Trust me when I say that they can never reach the rank of Senior Lecturer without a PhD. |
Education › Re: Thread For PHD Students by jayriginal: 1:35pm On Jan 29, 2016 |
jeebz: Masters is a requirement to become an Assistant Lecturer with evidence of registration in a PhD programme. QED I'm not sure where you are getting your information from. You haven't even demonstrated anything yet you use QED. Let me guide you. Lecturing begins with Lecturer2. A number of Universities have the policy of offering employment to their first class graduate (some are stricter and will only employ the best graduating first class student). Some people will be employed as Graduate Assistant even if they dont have a first class, provided they have a 2.1 degree. Now these Graduate Assistants are given four years to obtain their masters degree (or they may be shown out of the system). Such staff are never regularized without a masters degree. Once they obtain the degree, they are promoted to Assistant Lecturer. Thats how it works. If you dont have a 2.1, you need a masters degree and a PhD (not evidence of enrollment in a PhD program) to be appointed. With that, you will be appointed Lecturer2 (skipping the Graduate Assistant and Assistant Lecturer stages). Why listen to me? What do I know anyway? How about we ask Prof Julius Okojie. He ought to know something about it. Public and private universities in Nigeria were recently reminded by Professor Julius Okojie, Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, that by 2009 all lecturers must possess a doctoral degree - or lose their jobs. This directive, supported by the federal government, has generated a great deal of controversy in and outside higher education. But both supporters and opponents of the idea are unanimous about one thing - to prevent instability and uncertainty in the fragile university system, the qualifications deadline should be extended to allow affected academics to obtain their PhDs.
In an address to the Association and Committee of Vice Chancellors, the NUC's Okojie referred to a regulation called the Benchmark Minimum Academics Standard, or BMAS, which relates to the basic qualification a university teacher must possess. He said :
"If you don't have a PhD, you cannot teach. It has been an old regulation in the university system. If you graduate with a first class or second class upper, we take you as a graduate assistant. You are a trainee fellow. You are not a lecturer. When you earn your masters, you become an assistant lecturer. You are still not a lecturer.
"A lecturer is an examiner. The day you obtain your PhD, even if you have never worked before, your first appointment is lecturer grade two. What has happened in the past is that because of the dearth of PhD holders, universities employed those with mature masters as a lecturer grade two." However, Okojie added, an academic without a PhD is not an examiner and is excluded, among other things, from board of examiners' meetings.
http://www.universityworldnews.com/article.php?story=20080327105613634 Take note, it is the PhD that will cure the defect of the BSc. Some time ago it used to be that a 2.2 could be cured by an MSc. Those days are gone. The only time that your registration in a PhD program will be relevant is where you have a 2.1 in the first place. cc Ovipoet. |

Ovipoet: Please are u sure? is it not possible to get a lecturing job with a 2.2 @ Bsc and A distinction in MSc? I'm pretty sure. A PhD is required with a 2.2 in BSc (even if you have the best result in your MSc). |

DeathStroke007: Judas answered: 'I have told you that I am Judas Iscariot, who promised to give into your hands Jesus the Nazarene; and you, by what are I know not, are beside yourselves, for you will have it by every means that I am Jesus.' The high priest answered: 'O perverse seducer, you have deceived all Israel, beginning from Galilee ;even to Jerusalem here, with your doctrine and false miracles: and now think you to flee the merited punishment that befits you by feigning to be mad?
As God lives,' you shall not escape it!' And having said this he commanded his servants to smite him with buffetings and kicks, so that his understanding might come back into his head. The derision which he then suffered at the hands of the high priest's servants is past belief. For they zealously devised new inventions to give pleasure to the council. So they attired him as a juggler, and so treated him with hands and feet that it would have moved the very Canaanites to compassion if they had beheld that sight. But the chief priests and Pharisees and elders of the people had their hearts so exasperated against Jesus that, believing Judas to be really Jesus, they took delight in seeing him so treated.
Afterwards they led him bound to the governor, who secretly loved Jesus. Whereupon he, thinking that Judas was Jesus, made him enter into his chamber, and spoke to him, asking him for what cause the chief priests and the people had given him into his hands. Judas answered: 'If I tell you the truth, you will not believe me; for perhaps you are deceived as the (chief) priests and the Pharisees are deceived.' |

With all due respect, if you don't/didn't understand what benodic meant, why not simply ask him or even others for further clarification? I don't see the point of ridiculing his post, just because it is unclear to you. I think there is greatness in disagreeing without being disagreeable.

according to the spiritual law of polarity a thing can not exist except in direct relationship to its opposite in the lower worlds. meaning a mountain can not exist if there is no valley and darkness can not exist if there is no light.
extrapolating this to the discussion at hand it goes to say that a problem can not exist without a solution. and the funny thing that people do not know is that for most problems the solution is never far away or inaccessible and is always so close as to be ignored .
another way of solving a problem is to raise your spiritual vibration above the area where the problem exist then will you be able to see it more clearly and also see the solution that always lies close to it.
no problem greater than man is ever given to him and finally every problem given to man is to help him to expand his coonsciousness and bring him closer to God.
I hope this helps . Most unhelpful and ridiculously vague. I can't see why PastorAIO endorses this. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Morality; When Did Puberty Become Gold Standard For Sexing Young Girls? by jayriginal: 9:17am On Jan 24, 2016 |
JackBizzle: Almost two years ago, there was a muslim man whose bomb failed to detonate at the target. He was arrested.
In court, he was crying. When they asked him why he was crying, he said that he was sad that he couldn't join the harvest with holy warriors in heaven. He failed as a holy warrior.
The point of the story is to show how some religious people ignore real morality for some ridiculous religious morality.
1) The bomber in the story ignored the morality of not blowing innocent people to death- rather, he preferred to focus on the ridiculous morality of fighting/killing for Allah.
2) Empire ignores the morality of not abusing young girls with underage marriage/sex- rather, he prefers to focus on the ridiculous morality of avoiding sex before marriage at all costs
=========================================
The conclusion is that people who don't try to use reason to moderate their practice of religion are dangerous. I am grateful that many muslims aren't like Empiree. I'd argue that a lot are like him or at the very least, a lot condone his views on this issue. I've seen quite educated people defend the viewpoint while simultaneously distancing themselves personally from it. To them it's a religious issue and that makes it ok. How come I can't just kill people I don't like and tell the police that God asked me to do it? A person's humanity ought to reject some of the more atrocious aspects of religion. |

So because there is teen pregnancy, that means it's good or normal? Is armed robbery also good or normal?
Your point about junior licenses is moot. It's a junior license meaning there are restrictions. Again there is a reason for that.
It's sickening that an adult man would defend child marriage. Stop projecting and let your Muslim girls grow up before they get married. |

If she's mentality sound and sexually active, YES!
If she can keep her chastity till certain age, I dont mind delaying it. And pray tell how you would know your 14 year old is sexually active. Listen, let's remove religion and sêx from this discussion. A 14 year old can learn how to drive a car but there's a reason why cars are restricted to 18 plus. Theres also a reason a minor can't buy a firearm. When you figure it out, you will understand why minors shouldn't be married or copulatè (health issues aside) |
