Let me talk on file managers. These ones allow one to transfer files directly to and from any PC using wifi and without any software installed on the PC. My Explorer- Very neat and handy file manager. You can use it to seamlessly transfer files between any PC using wifi which is much faster than Bluetooth. All you need do is set up a network connection on the PC, connect your phone using wifi to the network on the PC, open the app and under 'add network share' input the PC name. Thats it! Now connect to the PC from the app and start transferring. Comes in very handy when I don't have a cable and need to transfer a large file from a PC or even when I have a cable but don't want to be glued to the PC Dukto- Although I haven't used it but It offers thesame PC sharing capability as the one above. It has a windows phone-like interface. It can easily be got on Nokia Store. Lastly, the regular file managers. The age-long X-plore that allows you to do almost anything you would need to do. An all-round, all-functional file manager. My next post should be on YouTube downloaders or menu bar customization apps. |
Ogidi-Olu:Thanks man. Thumbs up to you too. Its good you put the link to the app. I wanted to do thesame but on a second thought didn't cos the link might get dead or the app updated. Anyway its still good to have it as it eases the stress of finding it for some peeps. |
4llerbuntu: i thot the new king in town is d iphone 5?I don't get you and the king stuff. The iPhone just got released while the 920 hasn't been released yet. For now those who have access to it are are really anonymous. So yes comparisons with the iPhone 5 will soon start to tricke in just like this one taken at Photokina (the largest trade show in the imaging industry) where Nokia is exhibiting it and the 808. That is very very impressive to say the least. I mean its being exhibited beside the industries best.

sniperwolf: I'm having issues with my update. I see the update but it won't update. Did you use the Ovi Suite or the Software Update application in the phone? When I even dial *#0000#, then check for update it says SERVER NOT RESPONDINGI experienced this problem during one of my previous updates but I can't remember how I solved it. I think it was because the update paused too much while downloading. Why not back-up your data (not application data), hard-reset your phone and try it again. This should delete any part of the un-installed update in your phone enabling you to start afresh. You will have to re-install your apps again but I usually do that after any software update as it makes my device cleaner and faster |
Seriously some people are damn crazy. Except if they were re-sellers trying to get it early so as to sell at a premium rate. Apart from that, its senseless. I don't see myself doing this just to be one of the first persons to use a phone, tablet, computer or whatsoever. |
Finally, I know it may seem I'm trolling, but I came across this not too long ago. It made me laugh so hard and so I decided to share. Well we all know this might not affect sale numbers.
|
Thirdly, following the release of iOS 6 there have been multiple complaints by users as regards the new apple maps. Nokia didn't waste time in showing what they're the best at- navigation. The first pic shows the map features comparison while the second shows worldwide availability.
|
Well... It seems Nokia caught the gist and decided to come up with their own advertising which was at least more respectful that that of Samsung.
|
First after the Samsung vs Apple stuff, some Nokia fans thought Nokia was not doing enough in terms of advertising and so decided to help out with this. Well I think its more sincere than that of Samsung.
|
I came across some interesting pics lately regarding this topic and decided to share them. Although I agree with most, they may not be necessarily what I think but they're quite interesting. |
4llerbuntu: oh i do, i sure do. its just same with how one has to respect girls that sag with no panties on a bike on the streets of lagosThats why there are black and white ones for the cooperate guys and coloured ones for funky peeps. However, from the sale data of the Lumias which show that cyan colour was the most wanted, I think alot of people want a change. |
They are already showing their intolerance here by hiding most posts that contradict their views. @OP you would have posted this in politics section if you wanted a fair unbiased review not this trash I'm seeing here. |

The only thing is that the new Lumias are glossy which kind of gives it a cheap look. |
It looks as if our mods have sworn for Nokia. How would HTC WP8 device reach frontpage before the Lumias? |
walcolm: @Lord_Reed,Hmm... No comment. |
coogar: change sides? you would grow old and grey waiting for me to do that cos it's not happening! this is not fanboyism - i am just laying it down for you that apple are so much better than their adversaries! it's not even debatable!Well continue with that. I would have done some further explanation on why I chose the Lumia but it would be futile since you believe iPhone is infallible. Good Luck! |
coogar: it's not a blind attachment - you are just clueless and you have refused to admit it! now, that's pathetic! The good thing about Nairaland phone section is that on one side you have fanboys who a blind followers of whatever product they use and believe its the best at everything. On the other side you have those who have left fanboyism behind and argue points objectively irrespective of the OS or OEM involved. I'm sure you know where you belong so I'm gonna wait till you change sides before I start anything with you cos without doing that, I would just be wasting my time. |
coogar: close but no cigar......How pathetic! The way you people talk sometimes make me wonder whether you're paid to use these phones cos I don't get this kind of blind attachment after using devices The other day it was someone calling lumia 900 a feature phone cos it was being compared to an android phone, then later someone else started throwing insults when someone asked about a low priced symbian phone. Now you come up with this. Hmmm... I'm lost for words |
Hmmm... It seems any Samsung vs Apple stuff is destined for front page. |
coogar: ** quaking in my boots **OK Mr. Coogar, the iPhone5 is the all-powerful, all-conquering, most superior smartphone ever known to man. Its so much better than anything and everything out there that a comparison should never be made. Infact it represents the future. Does this make you feel better? |
coogar: see - this is the reason i don't get into debates with neophytes! the apple iphone is unique in that it encompasses more across the board than any other smartphone available! it doesn't have to be the very best in every category but apple's consistent at top in power, style, design, os and its user-friendliness!You must be a comedian. Me a neophyte? No problem since thats the name you give to everyone with a different opinion from yours. But be rest assured that if I was to take you on this, you would be lost for words. Well.. Mr. Guru ride on. |
coogar: this is power.....Hahahaha. Benchmarks?? You never cease to amaze me. Like I said, I'm in no mood for this, but c'mon if my choice was based on benchmarks, I would be shifting base every three months. Afterall I think Sony just produced a very powerful device and by January or February at most, this will be surpassed. Moreover, the current WP8 phones are not even listed. |
coogar: there's a thin line between open-mindedness and cluelessness. you could be subconsciously clueless.Hahahaha Thats typical. I will leave you to your views cos I usually don't like getting into some kinds of argument. From your posts on this thread, its clear you believe the iPhone is the all-powerful, all-conquering smartphone. Thats where we differ cos I believe that currently in 2012 no OS or manufacturer has it all. Like I said, ride on with your belief. |
coogar: if its down to looks alone, iPhone wins. if its down to the total package, iPhone still wins! it's not about size - it's about style and power! i am already running the new iOS 6 even before release of iPhone 5 - that's what apple are all about! fandroids are still hoping to get the jellybean months after it was released!Thats your opinion and certainly not mine. From your posts on this page, its clear you're zeroed in on apple. I tend to have a more open-minded approach to things. Like I said previously on another thread, if I was to choose a single phone out of all flagships released this year, it would be the Lumia 920- Again thats my opinion which I must say is a well informed one. |
4llerbuntu: BLEH practically nearly all iphone users also buy it because "its the iphone"Wait o... What is wrong here? I said IF IT WAS DOWN TO LOOKS ALONE AND NOTHING ELSE, then it would be a close call between the iPhone and lumia with GSIII coming a distant third. |
4llerbuntu: I will never understand people who use phones in bright red, yellow etc etc colors. jeez. All the phones I've used have been dark colours cos I thought its cool although I prefer white when I see it with people. That said, this recent colour splurge with WP got me thinking otherwise. Its like a breath of fresh air. The only thing is dat it would get everyone looking at your phone once its out. Some people might like this, some might not. Although there is the traditional black, I most likely will pick a bright one (Maybe yellow or blue) if I purchase one. |
Lord_Reed: I think he was trying to point out that it can't be rare considering the number of units sold. Surely a good percentage of those who bought it must like its aesthetics.I really don't think so cos I've seen alot of complaints from them. Even most reviews say so. Most bought it cos it was GSIII If it was just down to looks alone and nothing else, I think the iPhone might take it. |
Lord_Reed: @jediscoI agree with you. Thats why I told him that though his opinion is a rare one, I still respect it as his choice. But I'm still wondering what the 20 million units sold stuff he brought up has to do with this. |
This was your initial post: walcolm: i dont know where you read or watched your review. the complaint about the GSIII i have heard talked about in review has to do wit the fact that the body is made of glossy, plastic material. not a single one about it not feeling comfortable and natural when you hold itCan you please explain to me how this post was not comparing them based on design? Maybe there are some invisible words I'm not seeing. |
walcolm: RARE?!You were not referring to units sold (cos in that case iPhone would be the winner). You were clearly said 'design-wise'. |

Let me add two apps. Will post some later. They are apps that let you hide your media and files (documents, images e.t.c.) Safe Deposit- Easy to use and simple. To hide a file, you have to know the file name and location in the file manager. The only problem is that it saves the hidden files in C: so you have to have some space there. Smart lock- though its icon is not as beautiful as that of Safe Deposit, access to it is superb. When you open the app, it shows you a battery status bar which you have to press for sometime to show you where to input your pass. You also have to press this for sometime to get into the main app. So its much easier to hide. With some other apps, you can rename it and change the icon giving you a completely anonymous app. It hides music, vids and pics. Can be got for free from Nokia store. |
