Load N1,200
Send BSM to 440
You should get a message confirming your purchase. Its 1GB for 1 month.

Incase you exhaust it before the months end, you can send 'deactivate' to 440 and then subscribe again.

Also, there is an plan of N2,800 for 3 months (i.e buy 2 months, get one free) but I can't remember the code.
PhonesRe: Nokia Ousted From Smartphone Top Five by jedisco(m): 12:45pm On Oct 27, 2012
This is not so much an issue. It was well expected even by Nokia themselves considering the break in compatibility between the current lumia phones and windows phone 8.

Afterall BB was out of the top 5 last quarter but have improved.
What is important is that they are now profitable and with the release of new windows phone 8 devices and more budget friendly devices, the end of this quarter should be the real indicator of their future.

4llerbuntu: Sorry its the pantech flex not burst.

Incidentally there is a review on engadget posted yesterday.

It IS a budget phone by every definition. Pantech makes only budget android phones.

Forget about converting the prices into naira. Nigeria is not a market by which phone prices are judged. The cheapest phones are around 200 dollars which is over 30thousand naira excluding shipping and profit margins

Budget phones abroad are generally classified from $300 downwards or $100 on contract downwards which is the overwhelming way to
buy abroad and not outright purchases

uThe.pocket thats sold for 19k here costs more in dollars abroad in retail.stores.

The general trend im trying to point out is that a budget android most times packs more in than the budget wp fones like the 510 , moreover Im sure this 510 will sell for around 50k or more here sef.

If those wp phones are hackable they will bee aninteresting buy
Man THERE IS NO WAY THIS IS A BUDGET PHONE SPEC-WISE OR PRICE-WISE.

Budget phones abroad are usually free on contract and below $200 unlocked.
The lumia 710 was free from launch and was soon joined by lumia 800 and currently I think lumia 900.

I've followed the price of many phones from their release abroad to their release here. What I can say is that for phones which are released (officially) at almost thesame time in both countries, the price in the US (not Europe) is usually a little higher than the price here in Nigeria.

The 510 won't sell for 50k or anything near it. Remember it was made for developing markets and would be available there first (maybe even before lumia 920 and 820).
Currently, lumia 710 (just launched) goes for 33k, lumia 610 is lower so this should be much lower when it arrives.

Hmm.. I've come across some stealth apps in the past but I didn't bother installing them. Also, I can't remember if anyone does exactly this.

Perhaps you should check some anti-virus, security/utility and extensive video apps.
But I don't think its possible to put off the red camera light during video recording which may not allow you to do such.

Spot d difference btw wat qualifies as budget on android and budget on wp?
Man I don't know your limits for 'budget' but a $400 (N60,000) device is certainly not a budget phone. Infact its at the upper limit of mid-range and might even be classified as high-end in some cases.

How can you be comparing an unreleased device whose announced price is less than $200 to a device which has been out for sometime and whose price is $400 considering the fact that it may have dropped from something higher.

Mind you, the device you put up there can be regarded as a cheap high-end android device. It may not be top notch but its still high-end.

Also, I don't get it with you posting seemingly unknown OEMs. You may like to tell us how many devices they sold cos I would rather buy a higher priced but similar speced Sony, LG or Samsung device than this thing you put up here.
Mind you, if you're looking for cheap (but unknown) android devices, I know where you could get a quad core 4.3 incher with 2GB RAM for under $150. ( http://www.everbuying.com/ )

Lastly, you might want to re-check the specs of the device you put up there cos what I got for 'Pantech burst' differs significantly from what you have there. ( http://www.gsmarena.com/pantech_burst-4429.php )

Abbott: My problem with Nokia is that instead of releasing their products in all their major markets @ once, they will release in UK/USA and other countries in January and release in Nigeria and co in December.
If I was given Nokia Lumia 900 free of charge I wont collect it @ all. If they like when Lumia 920/820 is released, they should not bring it to Nigeria. Will just abandon them and chill for BB Aristo. smiley
Man stop dreaming cos nobody is going to give you lumia 900.
What percentage do you think Nigeria contributes to smartphone usage.

FYI, there are about 4 million smartphones in Nigeria over 50% of which are BBs. An overwhelming majority of whats left are symbian phones. Even when you come to androids, the common ones are the very cheap ones.
So Nokia is better off releasing the 510 here now and the higher ends when its feasible.

4llerbuntu: 80% of mobile phone users are not interested in updates. its you pesky pseudo-geeks that are always shouting about updates online grin grin grin grin grin

by capable and diverse i mean real world capabilities like tethering, file sharing, even hacking if u are into that sort of thing.

im sure there will be a few things a budget android fone can do that a budget nokia Windows fone wont, primarily because nokia knows well enough not to over stretch their meager hardware whilst android is simply a do it all platform.

heck u find budget androids with USB-On-The-Go and other such exotic features. even if its not there somebody is working to bring it up. there are fones that shipped with donut that run ICS AND jb!!! CRAZY.

i hope Nokia WP 8 fones will be hackable sha. that will actually get crazy pple interested
Yes just as 80% of people are not bothered about some stuff that exist just for the purpose of them existing.

WP supports tethering, side loading of apps, Nokia has released an app for file sharing.
Funny enough, all those things you listed are available on Asha phones including USB OTG

I don't know what you mean by meagre hardware. I would choose this phone over any android phone within its range. I've come across alot of low-end droids and and they were just a pain in the arse.

Iphones didn't have a long list of hardware stuff but their advantage has always been ease and speed of use. Thats a place where this phone clearly excels above androids.

So rather than getting a buggy and annoying and slow low-end android, I would rather have a smooth and relatively fast windows phone.

How many low-end androids shipped with donut and now run JB officially? Or better put how many people are using JB compared to donut. Hope you've not forgotten that almost 100% of android users are between 1-3 years behind the current iteration of the OS

4llerbuntu: source of this assertion? tongue tongue

obviously it wont be as capable of diverse functions as those low end androids

good thing tho is that they would prolly sell lots of these ones if they can get to make one with WP8 than those their Flagships. Those ones are on a long thing for now
Capable and diverse?? I don't get this one.

Last time I checked, an overwhelming majority of android phones sold today don't ship with JB and a good number have no hope of getting it and yet they still sell.
Most people buying low budget phones are not interested about updates.

Besides, this one should get the 7.8 update. Nokia has promised long support for the current line up so this should benefit from that.

I think this phone would be a hit considering how well the Asha line is doing against low-end droids. Its major pros are its price and the 4 inch screen. Thats not adding how good it looks especially with the colours available- something lacking in low budget phones.

I think it would debut in Nigeria for between 20 - 30k and would be a direct competition to low-end androids which it should out-perform.
The only con is that its got 4GB non-expandable memory, but then, thats why its that cheap.

superior1: What is it about quack doctors in Nigeria (I have had friends report their adventure with many, one was even consulting textbook right in front of an acquitance ) is it that our medical schools are producing bad ones or medical students are no longer paying close attention to their lessons?
I don't get this part of your story. This your belief is absolutely wrong.

First, I think he might have been consulting a drug manual maybe to check up doses or market names of drugs.
Even if it was a textbook, it shows the doctor understands he doesn't know everything (no one does) or might have forgotten something and is willing to check it up rather than commit error.

The purpose of education is not to know it all, but to know enough to render help in emergencies and to know where to source for and apply necessary information accordingly.

Check especially for battery rating apps, notification apps and maybe tweaks.

You can also use NetQin or any good task manager and check for running apps background.
Try using the 'optimize' feature on NetQin which closes all apps including background ones and see if the problem persists.

Kobojunkie: a) Your story sounds ridiculous. If you need to make something up, you can definitely do a better job than the above. I mean "I can't go a week without his sensual touch" . . . where did you get that silly line from? A terrible Nollywood movie? Abeg . . stop watching all that trash and get you some good books to read.

b) You claim the husband in this scenario accuses the wife of being too stubborn. That is fine and well. Personally, I don't see any problem in the wife cooking what she did. I mean if the man really wanted to eat perppersoup and etc. surely he could have done it himself, if it meant that much to him to have it exactly as he wanted it. A wife is not a slave and a wife does not have to do exactly what a husband says. A wife is a partner and not a slave. So here we have a husband that may really feel it is OK to divorce on grounds that she didn't do exactly what he says, it might turn out for her own good.

c) As for the answer to the question of what to do, I say you think about what divorce and his threats really mean, If you don't want divorce, and you are willing to settle with the situation with the husband, then do what you have to, to maintain it. If however, you want chance and you are willing to accept the consequences that come with the change, go for it. This is your life.

chucky234: In few years back Nokia was the clear leader not because of quality or innovative designs but by number of phones they pushed into the market monthly,RIM was the real leader before the emergence of Apple as Samsung and LG followed HTC step after the success story of the G1 or Era G1.
Have you ever ask why Google and Microsoft chose HTC as the flagship company for the first android and WP devices? The sophisticated designs of the Samsung galaxy series which revived the dwindling fortune of Samsung where borrowed from HTC because HTC stands for designs and that's why they were able to win everyone's love before the arrival of the Galaxy series.
Brazilian market competitive? In the first quarter of 2012 alone HTC recorded sales of $2.2bn with the introduction of the One X which is still going head to head with GS3 and Apple iPhone5,many experts around the world still nurse the believe that HTC's One X is a better phone than the GS3.
Oh my! You are really worse than I thought.

Did you just say Nokia didn't offer quality or innovative products?
MAN WHEN DID YOU START USING A SMARTPHONE?
Even the most rabid of Nokia haters all agree on one point that Nokia makes quality and innovative hardware.

The last time I checked, Google is still free. You really should take a look at the range of Nokia devices over the last decade before talking empty.

Galaxy series borrowed from HTC?? Now you really need to see a doctor.
Even a child born this year knows that the success of the galaxy line is heavily dependent on galaxy s which was a hopeless and shameless copy of the iPhone both in design and interface. No where does HTC come close.

chucky234: Hahaha I laugh your empty brain,HTC has the highest LTE patents with Samsung coming closest,in 2010 HTC manufactured the first LTE device with the release of the Evo 4G.
HTC operates a software design office in Seattle in the United State where it
designs its own interface for its phones and other manufacturer.
In the Q3 2011 HTC Corporation became the largest smartphone vendor in the U.S. by 24 percent, ahead of Samsung's 21 percent, Apple Inc.'s 20 percent and
BlackBerry's 9 percent and Nokia was never on that list.
HTC Corporation also made different models for each operator in the US in 2011.
2011 HTC bought VIA Technologies' stake in S3 Graphics, thus becoming the majority owner of S3, On August 6 2011, HTC acquired Dashwire for $18.5M. In August 2011, HTC
confirmed that they will be entering a
strategic partnership with Beats
Electronics by acquiring 51 percent of
Beat's shares.
HTC was named the "Device
Manufacturer of the Year" for 2011 by
the GSMA at the Mobile World Congress on the 16th of February 2011,
Also in April 2011, the company's market value surpassed that of Nokia to become the third largest smartphone maker in the world, only behind Apple and Samsung.
.
Its also good for you to put into your empty brain that HTC is pioneer of the android and windows mobile you see everywhere today and not Nokia, HTC created the first Microsoft-powered smartphone (2002) and the first Microsoft 3G phone (2005)
Their first major product was made in
2000 and was one of the world's first
touch screen smartphones. The Palm
Treo 650 and thesad iPAQ were created by HTC.

I don't want to start throwing insults, but you're clearly blank. Copy and paste ain't gonna help you as this discussion is way way above your capacity.

Did you just say HTC has the highest LTE patents? You must be hallucinating.
Now FYI, Nokia has the largest amount of LTE patents with almost 20% followed by Qualcomm then Samsung. HTC is almost non-existent here ( http://www.newstrackindia.com/newsdetails/2012/08/31/371-Samsung-threatens-to-sue-Apple-if-next-iPhone-has-4G-LTE-network.html )

- The US is not the world. Nokia led the smartphone race for over a decade while being almost non-existent in the US.

- HTC making the first LTE device has nothing to do with its patent. Google maps first introduced indoor viewing into their maps but Nokia had already patented it several years before. There are alot of Nokia patents that first appeared on other phones and not on Nokia phones.

- I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M ARGUING PATENTS BETWEEN NOKIA AND HTC. BEFORE HTC CAME INTO EXISTENCE, NOKIA ALREADY HAD MORE PATENTS (BOTH IN QUANTITY AND QUALITY) THAN HTC HAS TODAY.

- Go and ask yourself when HTC came into existence. Then ask yourself when Nokia started making phones. So yes HTC created the first windows phone but that was when Nokia was ruling the world with symbian.

- Nokia was central in developing GSM, GPRS, EDGE, W-CDMA, HSPA, LTE and Wi-Fi technologies, and holds massive patents in these areas.

- HTC won the WMC device of the year for 2011, who do you think won it not just in 2012 but many times before?

- Nokia currently has by far the most mobile patents. Not just that, even in 2012, they still have the highest application so far this year.

- Nokia recently sued your darling HTC cos of patents. Perhaps you should take a look of how they came to their knees. http://www.fosspatents.com/2012/07/frand-hallucination-htc-raises-frand.html?m=1
http://www.fosspatents.com/2012/07/in-response-to-nokias-itc-complaint-htc.html?m=1

- HTC has the least of patents among major mobile OEMs. Get that into your skull.

- HTC and patents are two words that don't go together. How many times have you heard of HTC receiving licensing fees for their patents? Now compare that to Nokia which receives massive licensing fees yearly with the number still growing.

Go and look at this and you would see why Nokia holds the ace as far as mobile patents are concerned. No one comes near. Your HTC is not even on the list.

kellystech: Dear Nokia,
I fear the next time I write you, it will be to say goodbye.
I’ve noticed you’ve run into a bit of trouble lately with your handset business. It seems as though you could use some advice from someone who cares. Allow me to start from the beginning.
You had one clear message when you announced your first Microsoft powered Lumia phones: these are the real Windows Phone devices. And you weren’t just blowing hot air. Microsoft backed you up. They even appeared on stage to help drum up excitement and drive that message home.
You seemed to hold a special place in the manufacturing line for Microsoft. Where RIM and Apple make their own hardware, Nokia, you would be that for Microsoft. You made sure Microsoft felt comfortable with that decision by going all in on Windows Phone, too. Then came the announcement of the Microsoft Surface.
Instead of the Lumia Surface, or Lumia 10 (for ten inches), Microsoft announced they’d be making their own hardware. Ouch. Sorry, Nokia. Apparently, even though you pledged allegiance to Microsoft, they still couldn’t trust you to deliver. You aren’t good enough to make their flagship tablet. But at least you still have phones, right? Yeah, about that.
This past week, HTC teamed up with Microsoft to announce both the Windows Phone 8X and Windows Phone 8S
. HTC is calling itself “the new face of Windows Phone.” Which is totally cool with Microsoft. I mean, c’mon, Windows Phone is the name of both devices.
Shouldn’t you have Windows Phone in the title of your devices? Like the Windows Phone Lumia? Microsoft is getting behind HTC now. You can keep doing their thing, but HTC is where it’s at
. Again, sorry, Nokia. Microsoft couldn’t trust you with tablets, and now they can’t trust you with phones. So what now?
Elop, we know you made some rather unfriendly comments towards Android in the past. But we’re willing to forgive you. And so is Google. I’m sure they’d love to work with you.
Look. We’ve seen the article in Reuters
. Reporting that you, Elop, have until early 2013 to turn things around. To prove that betting the farm on Microsoft was the right thing to do. Do you really want to keep waiting? You placed everything you have in Microsoft, and they just proved they aren’t willing to place everything they have in you. How many more times do you have to be stabbed in the back by Ballmer and company before you realize it’s time to get out?
You don’t even have to do everything Google wants. If you don’t like how Android looks, change it. You can still lean on the massive ecosystem and developer support Google has amassed. No other platform can offer that to you. That’s the truth. Any other platform you could flock to would either limit what you can do with software or offer no developer and user support.
Nokia, Elop, you can make Android your own. It has a huge, robust ecosystem. It’s already the winning platform in terms of marketshare. The cost of admittance is free. What else do you want? You’re not Microsoft’s number one anyone. You’re playing second fiddle to HTC now.
I can promise you a Nokia manufactured Android device would sell like crazy. Look around you. Google search “Lumia Nexus
.” The demand is there. You just have to snatch the opportunity. You can still make Windows Phone devices if you want; both Samsung and HTC have a hand in Android and Windows. You’re just running out of time.
I hope this made some sense to you. You’re a master craftsman of hardware. You have some of the most talented engineers on the planet working for you. You have a loyal following. You know how to command the marketplace. Don’t waste it all waiting for Windows Phone to take off. I’d hate to see you go. We’d all hate to see you go.
Sincerely,
Dustin EarleyNext
First and formost, this post is one hell of a misinformed one.

Let me take it on two points- Nokia and android and the other on the current situation with MS.

First Nokia and android. Let me for the umpteenth time ask. APART FROM SAMSUNG, HOW MUCH PROFIT ARE OTHER ANDROID OEMS MAKING??
The mistake you people always make is that you think because android is popular, anybody that touches it becomes successful.
Maybe you should ask yourself why Apple rakes in 75% of smartphone and tablet profits while still selling considerably lower numbers than android.

When Nokia contemplated using android, Google didn't allow them any opportunity to differentiate their products. That would have meant the death of alot of Nokia products like maps. I hope you know that Google once threatened to ban Motorolla cos they wanted to develop their maps.
Now take a look at the success Nokia maps is today with over 85% of inbuilt navigation systems in cars and a whole lot using it.

So at best, they would have been also-rans like all other android OEMs apart from Samsung are. That in itself would have been an insult to Nokia and wouldn't have helped out their financial situation, instead it would have worsened it.

With WP, Nokia has the chance to differentiate their brand and still use their services. If WP is able to grab say 10% market share, that would be much more profitable for Nokia than using android.
I believe that Google are currently regretting not licensing Nokia as that would have killed of any chance WP had to survive. Instead they ruined that opportunity and allowed Nokia partner with an opponent.

To the current issue with WP. You should understand the basics.
- You have to understand that Nokia, MSFT and HTC are all companies looking for profit.
- HTC has made WP for a very long time before Nokia and you don't expect them not to have some benefits.
- HTC has much better presence than Nokia in the US.
- What WP needs now is a good userbase so partnering with HTC and Nokia would atleast ensure worldwide availability.
- Nokia still receives alot of support from MSFT. $1B yearly and thats the little we know.
- Nokia have come out to say they don't make products for others. Besides, they do not have the capacity to do that. They have moved most of their factories to Asia and allow others to make some of their phones so that they can adequately meet global demand.
- Nokia wanted to create their brand with WP which is what Lumia stands for so it wouldn't have been wise to have the WP tag on their phones.
- They have succeeded with that as the Lumia brand is currently more popular than WP.
- Using the WP tag is not important just as the droid tag for Motorolla phones did not help them in anyway.
- MSFT clearly want to create their own brand which is WP and surface just as Nokia also want to create theirs.
- If Nokia makes a tablet, then only it would carry the Lumia tag.

LASTLY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, USING ANDROID WOULD HAVE BEEN THE WORST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO NOKIA. ALL YOU ANDROID USERS SHOULD BE SATISFIED WITH ALL THE ANDROID OEMS YOU'VE GOT. IF YOU WANT A NOKIA DEVICE, YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO.

emeka.D.:
they really bleeped up, why go for windows when android was there. Why cant they be like htc that builds both android and windows phones. HTC of yesterday!
So how has that turned out for HTC in terms of profit?
Do you know how much Samsung and HTC pay Microsoft for every android device made and how much Microsoft pays Nokia to use WP?

I'm sure you think that just making phones bring in profit. Apple doesn't sell much phones as compared to android but they still make 75% of smartphone and tablet profit. Nokia has a much better shot at succeeding with WP than with android.

chucky234: RIM have a far better chance of survival than Nokia with its BB10 due for launch in Q1 of 2013.
