Giving someone a run for their money meanings

to compete very well against someone so that it is
hard for them to defeat you

If you say that someone could give someone else a run for their money, you
mean you think they are almost as good as the other person.

to be as good at something as someone who is extremely good

I think those choice of words are not suitable for the message you were tryna pass

Also Ronaldo can't keep playing like he was 18-30 again, he lost some of those qualities and has adapted his game to be smarter. funny enough, he's won a lot more with this style than he did when he was a dribbling, scoring and running machine. Messi has also declined lately and he'll only decline further and further
You are right. Ronaldo isn't enough competition, so it should've been 'a walk for the money'.

Truth is: Both players have declined, but Ron's decline is too glaring. There is little or no contribution to his team apart from scoring goals. Now goals wins games and trophies, and so the Portuguese is very essential, but only for such limited purpose. So in a case where he isn't getting fed by his providers, what more importance is he on the pitch than a loafer in the market square? I personally think that his providers ( Marcelo, Isco, Modric, Carvajal etc.) are getting too little praises for their efforts. How many times has Ronaldo had to beat a defender to score his goal? Hence the nickname "Tapnaldo".

On the other hand, Messi's pace has dropped considerably. Still he can beat defenders with some magical touches anytime anyday. That is the very definition of a G.O.A.T. Other aspects of his game such as passing and playmaking are still very sharp. Let's not talk about his free kick game(Ronaldo's has completely deserted him), and to crown it all, he still scores as much goals as CR7.

If Ronaldo really insists that his only contribution to football would be to poach goals, no problem. But since that is his specialty, then he should be able to score twice as many goals as Messi could score in a season. For it is unfair to score about the same number of goals as the Argentine while lacking seriously in other aspects that he delivers an adequate performance and still claim to be his equal at the end of the day.

So Ronaldo is clearly Giving Messi a run for his money but Ron's feat on the pitch isn't enough to draw comparison to the Argentine?

you've just contradicted yourself sir unless you're saying there are things Ronaldo does off field to warrant it
"Giving someone a run for their money" simply means being competition for them. It entails the individual 'being given a run for their cash' sitting up to improve and not enjoying monopolistic comfort.

So far, that's what CR7 has done at best: ensuring that Messi does not enjoy an undisturbed streak of football dominance. But what the Madrid star is doing is just insufficient. I personally expect him to do more than scoring goals

nonsense

If Ron can win a senior trophy with relatively unknown players like Andre Gomes, Joao Mario, Cedric, Danilo. has beens like Nani, Quaresma, Fonte etc You call these players average? what's the meaning of average to you?

Then it shouldn't have be so hard for Messi to win Copa and possibly world cup with World class players like Higuain, Aguero, Di Maria, Dybala, Icardi, Mascherano, Zabaleta etc Only the Argentine attack is fierce. The defence and midfield are(Lemme borrow your choice of words) average. Besides, this is the world cup, the global glory in the game of soccer. Compare that with a continental trophy your hero won...FROM THE BENCH.

also his barca teammates won 2 euros and a world cup without Messi Same goes to Ramos and Isco, Ronaldo's teammates

You're forgetting the brilliance of Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Dani Alves, Jordi Alba, Neymar etc at Barca. You're making it sound Like Messi is playing in Enyima or something Between the two, who benefits more from the help of teammates? who needs it more?

also those Messi temmeates won euros and world cup without him Ramos and Isco again

It shouldn't be too hard for someone of this quality to win WC and Copa with that talented team, all he need do is keep supplying and scoring and dribbling. i wonder why he's finding it hard He has come close on four different occasions. Your hero came close only twice. One he lost, the other he won... from the bench of course

Ronaldo has always been either the top assister in our team every season or up there so this is nonsense, he even has highest assist record in UCL I'd give credit to whom it's due. At least I can appreciate a different dimension of his game. No rebuttal

This sounds disjointed and a conspiracy theory. FYI while Ronaldinho was bossing it no one was brought up by Europeans, neither was anyone brought up during Delima run if 1996-97 but don't let the facts get in the way of your conspiracy theory wink
You can't compare media influence in the last decade with what it is today. Besides, Dinho and Delima were heads and shoulders above everyone else then. On the other hand, Ronaldo is clearly giving Messi a run for his money, but his feat on the pitch is not enough to draw a comparison with the South American.

In conclusion, regarding Ronaldo as Messi's equal disgusts me. I know you get the same feeling when I declare that Messi is better. To get a satisfactory answer, do this:

Get a group of toddlers(grownup individuals have formed unbreakable opinions) to watch CR7 and LM10 every weekend, including champs league night. A majority of your "panel of incorruptible little judges" would give you an answer that might shock you

This is the only person that watches and understands football
Is this a compliment? like deep straight from your mind? I wish I could say more than "thank you".

Once again, Ronaldo is not Messi's equal. The comparison disgusts me
RomanceRe: This Is Why Rich Guys Don't Marry Poor Ladies by Jeferious: 7:36pm On Mar 21, 2018
That class difference between a broke girl and a rich guy is the reason why he won't marry her most of the time. Most rich people are very class-conscious.

Forget G-Boys. There is a world of difference between swag and class. Classic rich people don't throw money away unnecessarily just to impress.

Sentiments aside... it's kinda wrong to compare Ronaldo and Messi: the latter is far better than the former.

CR7 depends on his teammates to clinch some glory. The Portuguese is seriously indebted to other players who have supplied him with assists to bag the goals from time to time, from the time of visionary Ozil at Madrid to the present era relentless Modric et al. Don't forget the efforts of Marcelo and Carvajal too. Stifle his suppliers(which is very difficult given their brilliance and ability to outmaneuver from tight spaces) and you'd see an ineffectual CR7.

Messi, on the other hand, is supplier as well as recipient. Where he is not scoring goals, he's laying them on a platter of gold for others. Despite a loss in pace, he's still one of the best dribblers around, and his whole ball game is furnished with alacrity and purpose.

I don't intend to take anything off Ronaldo's scoring technique and off-the-ball movement...both are legendary, to say the least. Nevertheless, soccer fans won't mind seeing him do more than just score tap-ins and penalties. He has fed off other's efforts for some time now. Let him feed others as well continue to be in mad scoring form. Then he can claim he's Messi's equal. It'd be more fantastic if he bring back those tricks he used to beat defenders back then at Man. united.

In conclusion, The Messi-Ronaldo rivalry was created by the European media who would not endure the sight of a South American being better than their own. Thus they hyped the latter up to make it seem like he's the South-American equal. But even some of them e.g. Gary Lineker etc. don't agree with this conspiracy. If Messi was a European, the difference would have been made clear a long time ago. No matter Shevchenko's scoring madness those years, it was a football sin to compare him with Zidane. Of course both were Europeans

I can't date/marry a broke guy

It's not gonn ever happen!!!

I am not a gold digger...stop generalising

I don't see any disadvantage in being with a rich guy

Rich guys any day any time
I would definitely share the same view with you if I were a lady. But since I'm not...Lemme drop a little secret for your own good...

If you ain't half as rich as that nigger, better take a walk. Unless you regard yourself as a 'thing' and not a 'human being'. By having some financial strength yourself, you've obtained a fair amount of bargaining power and control. But if you're broke, better stick with guys in your level.

Rich guys, especially those who made their own money, are f##kingly smart people. It takes a good brain to make money. That good brain can equally conjure never-fail plans to maim or destroy human life when the need arises.
RomanceRe: Guys What Do U Offer A Woman!! by Jeferious: 6:54pm On Mar 11, 2018
This thread is invalid ab initio. Everybody isn't the same. Among both genders, there are some who are very independent in the strongest sense of that word. You need them more than they need you. I've seen ladies who are independent, I've seen some who are very needy. The same applies to the masculine gender.

But truth be told, there are more needy ladies than needy guys. Needy in this sense refers to social, emotional, psychological and financial dependence. There are more males than females who actually need a guide.

If all the men in Nigeria can just do one thing for me: let's agree not to woo a lady for two months. The highest interaction should be "Hello...Hi"...and it ends there. Something tells me that the answer to this question would appear before the expiration of that two months sef.
RomanceRe: Is Accepting A Cheat Back Strength Or Weakness? by Jeferious: 6:33pm On Mar 11, 2018
Forgiveness is a show of strength where the aggrieved is in a far better and easier position to exact vengeance...the story of Joseph is the Bible. If one forgives a cheat who one can easily punish- such ease being derived from financial strength, charisma, societal position, access to tools of intimidation such as thugs and assassins... then a show of strength and tolerance, and such category of forgiveness is pure.

In other cases where there is little opportunity for repercussion for the aggrieved, as well as in situations where the aggrieved is hardly any better than the cheat in terms of societal class, financial reliability, physical charisma etc and thus can hardly do without the latter...it is hardly a show of strength to forgive. Forgiveness in these cases is more like weakness. It is highly probable that the aggrieved cannot do without the cheating partner and thus would grant forgiveness once it is solicited.

In conclusion, the real forgiveness is visibly undeniable when the aggrieved has various chances of punishing, as well as have better options than the cheat to choose from.
