Hello house,

I will be visiting new york and Dallas on vacation soon. I already have a few friends in New York and will like to meet and make new friends in Dallas during my visit. Hope to have some good fun in Texas as it's my first there (but not first time in the US). I can be reached through my nairaland email.

Thanks for this info. Na wah o! I wish I made enquiries before booking. It's all good.

I'm currently in the same situation as well. Booked online too but with Emirates directly in their site. I have a 9hrs layover. Went to Emirates office and they said no hotel provided becos there was a shorter layover option during my booking (I didnt even notice). By the way the option that i picked was the cheapest at time of booking. Best thing is to look for hotels around the airport (requires visa fee etc) or book a hotel INSIDE the airport. Travel / Nairalanders In Houston Texas by jenny2007(f): 2:32pm On May 01, 2018
Hi house,

So I've been thinking of visiting Houston during my next trip to the U.S.
I've been to a few states but never been to Houston. I hear that Houston weather is almost like naija weather...well that's a plus for me cos I detest cold weather. I've heard and read so many postive reviews about Houston however I have found that moving around the state is almost impossible without a car.
I will like to know how nairalanders living there get around. I wouldn't want to spend all my money on Uber during my visit. Also, where are the spots in town for tourists and easiest way to get around them.

OmoBendel24:

My take is always not friendly on this kind of situation. For the past two years plus, I have seen a couple of cases like this, some have had to go change moniker and ask the question again in another format and all.... Yours however is not going to get too much knocks from me, though I 80% of the times think this whole stuff was preplanned without much knowledge at the time on your part.

Well, from the few posts you have made since you joined nairaland, one can deduce that you applied for the kids maybe just few days/weeks (hardly up to a month, at most February 2017 and not April as stated by your here) after their dad's visa renewal and maybe exit (early 2017) from Nigeria. I don't want to bore you with details of my suspicions on the Canada application and the targeted tricks surrounding same. To worsen your situation, you haven't even made any travel with the first and this current visa, and you now want to show up at a US POE with your in fact real ties to naija - your kids, with a missing/overstaying husband on US soil to boot with (nodding my head)..... Hian!

@The bolded holds no water, you need the pity party. Entering the US on a B1/B2 visa may be very very difficult for you now (not entirely impossible), concentrate on Canada maybe.

Omobendel24 your take is never friendly, you should watch the way that you respond to people trying to ask valid questions in here. If you cannot give a constructive feedback without already accusing people of having an ulterior motive then you shouldn't even reply them. Everyone on the U.S. travel thread respects Seyewest because he is always helpful in a respectful manner, even when he criticises a point he gives valid reasons without point accusing fingers. The poster must have a good job that ties to her home country for her to be given visa twice in a roll without using the 1st one. By the way her kids dad's decision is his own decision and shouldn't be blamed on her. You never answered her question instead you were busy mentioning her Canada application. Is that the point here? I.T.K!! By the way on what experience do you advise people from in this thread? That's how someone once asked if they can use a naija driver's license to drive in the States and you said it's not allowed. Whereas you are allowed to hire a self-drive car even as soon as you land in the airport as long you have an International Driver's license.
Pls stop attacking posters with your suspicious mind and address issues maturedly as not to discourage people from bringing their problems here.

Hi all, @seyewest
My case is a bit complicated. The father of my kids ( u will understand y i refuse to call him husband)n i Got our first us visa in april 2014 n found out i was pregnant afterwards. Since i did not want to violate the terms of my visa ( visit n not for baby) i stayed in naija to v my baby. I also could not travel cos where i work u dont get an annual leave in d same year u get maternity leave ( u can only v one). I had my baby in september of 2014 n realised i was pregnant again in january 2015. Again i cld not travel dat year cos same situation of annual n maternity leave arose. In addition to dat, i got a double promotion at work n it did not look wise to take a vacation when i had just been promoted. Had my baby in oct 2015. To cut d long story short, dat visa expired n it was not used. I n d father of my kids applied for another visa in dec 2016 n it was granted. The father of my kids travelled early 2017 with d understanding dat he will return after a month. After two months, he stopped communicating with i n d kids n all efforts to reach him prove abortive. I know he s alive n well in d US cos his sisters tell me so. I v put dat aspect of my life behind me n need to be strong for my kids. I want to be able to give dem the best.
My questions are two- 1) i applied for and got visas for my kids in april 2017. I want to travel to the USA with them on vacation for 22 days. I hope their father's defection will not affect our chances of entering the USA?
2) My visa expires early december 2018 n i plan to travel in september 2018 as dat is when i have my annual leave. Is it to close to my visa expiry date? Thanks in advance n no pity party pls ( as regards d father of my kids) life happens n dis i v taken in good faith. I m happy n my kids are

Dear poster, I will be honest with you and tell you that the U.S. knows that your kids father is still in the States. There's a site to check every US visitor's transit in and out of the States, you just put your passport number and details and it shows you date you entered and left.https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/#/home
If the person is still in the States it will show on the site. It's run by the U.S. DHS. However, you stated in your form that you will be travelling alone with your kids and all expenses made by you so you should be ok. If at all your kids dad is mentioned at POE simply tell the truth that he left you and his kids and you haven't heard from him. I wish you the very best. The Lord is your strength.

Why can't u book ticket by yourself since you know how to confirm from airways. Booking tickets is the most easiest thing I think even if I haven't been on a plane before. Just DIY (Do it yourself).

Yes you can book your tickets online yourself, however your travel agent is supposed to be able to get you discounted fares for airline tickets, that's why they are called travel agents. They compare different fares on different airlines and give you the best price. However Travel Start lures you with a cheap ticket price but you end up paying twice more than even the airline will charge. You have to experience it first before you learn your lesson.

That company is a scam. Nigerians need to be aware of this. Imagine telling me that the carrier airline was lying to me about the info that was given to me when I was shown hard evidence. They are not even talking about refunding my 250k at all. That money would have made a lot of difference to my travel budget. Making money isn't easy after all. They are scammers and should be exposed

Travel Ads / My Experience With Travelstart Nigeria. Don't Be Scammed by jenny2007(f): 10:42am On Mar 15, 2018
Hi house,
Though I have posted this in another the POE interview page for the U.S, it will be helpful to post as a new topic too to help travellers to make up their mind on whether or not to use Travel Start

So, I travelled to Chicago with Qatar and TravelStart sold me the ticket- a Fleixible Ticket - it's a higher class of economy ticket that allows you the flexibility of at least one free ticket date change. Sometimes you still pay to change your dates on this ticket but you pay way lesser than on a non-Flexi ticket. I paid 550k instead of the regular economy price of 430k for Chicago route.

Got to the States, just before my return travel date was due ( I already wanted to stay a few more days to do shopping etc after my conference there ) so I called TravelStart to choose a new return date. I was told that no seats were available for at least 2 weeks and that I had to pay 150k extra to even change the date. I was bewildred. I checked Qatar Airways online and they have more than 20 seats on Flexi Economy even for the very next day. I ran to O'Hare Int'll Airport to Qatar Airways desk to lay and was shocked to find out from them that TravelStart did not sell a Flexi-Economy ticket to me initially but a regular economy ticket with little or no flexibility for changes. TravelStart just collected my money like that o. To make it worse Qatar told me that because of the kind of ticket sold to me any changes has to be made by TravelStart. They confirmed that they had more than enough seats to Lagos even for the next one month!
My people, TravelStart insisted that the Airline charges was 150k for a new date and that I was sold a Flexi -Ticket. They insisted that i was wrongly informed at Qatar Desk in Chicago. Imagine! I had 2 options - pay the 150k " difference" or buy another full ticket again! So I transferred Travel Start the 150k from my account, ticket was emailed by Travel Start to me and something tells me to run back to Qatar Front Desk at O'Hare Airport to re-confirm again.
Qatar confirms the new date change alright but told me that Travel Start had put given me a ticket with more than 18hrs lay-over in Qatar meaning that it will take me at least almost 3 days to finally arrive Lagos. To top it off the Airline revealed to me that I was supposed to pay 50k to TravelStart for a date change and not 150k. They printed a receipt of the payment to them from TravelStart and it shows N50k.
To add salt to injury again I was still sent same regular economy ticket again.
The airline managed to get me on a Qatar flight with just 5 hours lay-over in Qatar instead the 18 hours by TraveLStart then told me to collect my 100k difference back from the travel agent. Up till now TravelStart is denying that they paid 50k to Qatar, they're also denying that they sold a regular economy ticket to me instead of the Flexible ticket that i paid for. From my calculations - with the initial ticket and the extra money paid by me to them they owe me almost 250k but have still not paid.

Guys be careful. Try wakanow.com or go directly to the Airline.

Guys you need to be careful with TravelStart. Fine, you can scan ticket prices in their site but do not buy from them especially if you're buying a flexible date ticket. Can never forget how those people scammed me on my last trip to the States. Bought a flexible ticket - which is obviously higher in price becos you get a free date change just in case - I got to the U.S., wanted to leave a few days later than planned. I contacted TravelStart for a ticket change and they told me I had to pay almost 150k extra for date change on a supposed Flexi Ticket . They said no seats on the airline back to naija for my travel dates and cheapest was available was for that 150k price difference. This was for economy too!
Went to the Airline's office and was told that TravelStart did not sell a Flexi Ticket to me but a regular economy ticket and they any ticket changes has to be made by TravelStart directly. I had to send the 150k to TravelStart for the date change. Got the new ticket emailed to me, something told me to crosscheck again with the Airline (Qatar) right there in Chicago.
The airline confirmed the new dates, they asked how much I had payed for the new date change and I said 150k. The Qatar Airways staff turned his computer screen to me and showed me that TravelStart only paid N50k to them and that was supposed to be what I should I have paid them.
Up until now TravelStart is claiming that they payed 150k to Qatar instead of the 50k confirmed by the Airline. They claim that the airline office at Chicago lied to me. Lmao.....chai! They have refused to return the 100k difference to me. Guys careful with them. Just compare prices for different airlines on their sites then go to the Airline directly or better still use Wakanow.com

Hi house,
Oh..and hi Mr Justwise. I need advise on this pls. I am thinking (not sure yet to be quiet honest ) of applying for a 6 months visit visa. However, my case is a bit complicated. I studying in the UK years back for 2 years; was a teen back then; was sponsored by my parents too. I overstayed my student visa back then becos my parents had thought that they could renew for me while I was there at the UK Home Office without having to travel back, i had already overstayed by the time I got a feedback that i had to come back to naija to renew. I travelled back, tried to renew in 2012 forgot to mention on my additional info section that i had overstayed. I was obviously denied and was told that i didn't state the fact that i overstayed and that future applications may be refused based on this. I got my UK immigration solicitor to write to the Emnassy and got a reply that the refusal has been reviewed again and that I could RE-APPLY again. I was completely fed up and decided to finish my study here, start a business etc. I'm a successful interior designer now with my own company. I've traveled to S.A twice since then, i have been to the U.S. and still have a valid visa etc. This is 5 years later and now I'm thinking of applying for a visit to the U.K. What do you think @justwise and co?

I appreciate everyone that has answered my questions from day 1 till now, God will come though for us at all points.

This is my interview transcript.

CBP: Evening sir.
Me : Good evening
CBP: What are you here for?
Me: Vacation
CBP: Where will you be staying
Me: Gave him the full address plus postal code.
CBP: Smiled and asked, where do you work and what do you do?
Me: I work for 9mobile formerly known as Etisalat Nigeria as a Customer Care Executive
CBP: How many days are you spending in the US?
Me: 10 days?
CBP: You said you are a marketer right?
Me: No, I am a customer care executive.
CBP: Welcome to the United states, Enjoy your stay.

I went to pick up my bag and I was stopped again by another official for a random check, He checked my bag and saw the aadun I took with me and asked, if it was an african cake to which I replied yes.

He put his knife through and sniffed, I think my man was searching for drugs. He told me to pack up and go.

Can anyone help me with the link to know your length of stay?

Well done mate! The C.B.P was only being smart when he asked you if you were a marketing executive. Good thing that you stuck to your initial answer and probably what you filled out in your embassy form. You didn't tell us where you landed though. Hello.

Thanks to the person who started this thread.
On the visa application form for B2, I filled 30days and I got 2 years. But now, am going for as long as 8months (I bought a return ticket from September 12 to April 27). Will that be an issue when am being asked how long?

Secondly, what's the minimum am expected to have as PTA for that long period. I know it's $4000 per quarter.

Thank you!!!

I see that you want them to deport you abi! Mind you, you cannot stay as a visitor in the States for more than 6 months...even that 6 months has to be permitted by stamping at your POE. By the way, not everyone can get 6 months stamp sef. You can't determine your permitted length of stay till you are stamped in and check your i-94. Some people are given even one month stay. Why would you buy a ticket with an 8 months gap pls?
My advise is this, stick to your duration as filled on your dhs-160 form; buy a ticket to fit same duration; travel and get stamped then change your ticket date to a new date ( remember that it still CANNOT be more than your PERMITTED duration of stay though). Goodluck

I forgot to add, incase if you are asked at POE why you didn't travel on the dates listed on your visa application, explain to the POE the reason for change of plans as you (mentioned here). Take any documentary evidence showing the post-ponement of the said training (I.e, from your office). This is just incase the POE needs to see this (he/she may or may not require it but better safe than sorry). Goodluck!

Hello guys,

I got visit visa last month for a two day training which I was supposed to attend tomorrow. Ur as it is, I won't be able to go, as I've been asked to stand in for a colleague who was given a bereavement leave. My company is planning to schedule me for the training against early 2018. However, my leave starts next month, and I'm thinking of going on vacation to us during my leave.

What are my chances?

If you have the b1/b2 class of visa then you are free to travel with for vacation and / or business. You must show the CBP at the point of entry that you are a legimate visitor though and not an intending immigrant. Your purpose of visit on every trip should prove this.

Guys,
This thread is very helpful. I advise everyone trying to apply to read from page 0 to current page before applying. While reading take note of refusals and why they were denied and apply to your case. Ask yourself same questions that were asked others in this forum and find potiential answers here too. Also read the successful ones and take note of questions asked and how the applicant replied. Read the pages like you're preparing for an important job interview or even and then PRAY. I ALWAYS visit the travel page on this site before applying for any country's visa and follow same guidelines listed and I have always been successful. That and prayers.
Secondly, be confident while standing in front of the visa officer at the embassy. They can smell fear even as soon as they see you. Make direct eye contact with them and chat (not talk ) with them like you're having a normal day to say conversation with a familiar friend.
Thirdly, Do NOT let any agent film your form for you becos they could fill in an information about you that isn't correct and when you are interviewed and asked a question based on what the agent filled in you start looking like a complete nutter. If you must fill the forms with an agent make sure that you do it TOGETHER and be the one to tell him what to fill INFRONT of you before submitting the form online.
Pls when asked you're salary don't go and put millions even if you earn it. I filled 200k as my monthly salary but i earn way more than that in a month. These people already think that an applicant is a potiential immigrant so it is up to you to prove that you are not migrating and will come back after your trip. Why you write that you earn million a they think that you're trying hard to get them to believe you. Just be yourself!
Fourthly, study the form that you filled online like the bible (or Koran) becos the interview questions will come from there. If you've been denied before and are re-applying you must remember what you filled in the previous applications becos you may still be asked questions based on previous applications especially if you were denied before. Had your circumstance changed?
Make sure that you stick strictly to what you wrote on the form while applying (whether truth or not pls stick to what you filled ). By the way, also stick to what you wrote on your form while arriving at your POE too. For those that want to travel from another city then transit to the final destination while there, make sure you hold an onward ticket on the bus or local airline over there.
Guys, anyone can get the visa whether single or married. Just defend what you have on your form and pray and be confident. I'm single and God gave me mine on first trial. I travelled and came back home to my business.
For those going for visits to friends and relations make sure that the person inviting you isn't there illegally and do not owe taxes. Those going for forums and conference make sure you get as much info about it and it better to related to your field of work.
Speaking of your field of work make sure that you know your job responsibilites very well and if asked mention it the way you filled it online. Those people are programmed like robots o so make sure you stick to your Info online. One of my aunties and her family got this visa on virgin passports. She's never even been to cotonou. Prepare ( read the thread here from page 0) and pray then fill your form correctly. Goodluck guys and may God grant everyone here their heart desires.

B1/B2 visas are normally issued for multiple entries, check your visa to confirm "M" is stated under "Entry".

Four months interval is not short to travel again if you can withstand the long travel time and fund it, without recourse to work in US. However, do not lose sight of the fact that you also need to do more business at home, so as to be able to fund further trips.

As a business person, do not only make your trip a pleasure one, you can use the opportunity to look for things you can buy cheaply during trip and sell here. The dollar shops are usually of interests to people doing buying and selling.

Thanks so much for this

Hi everyone and a happy Sunday,
I'm grateful for all the advise that I've gotten here through the years. I have travelled to the U.S and just got back about a month ago. It was my first visit and I stayed only 3 weeks (even though I was stamped for 6 months to stay). Now I'll like to travel again in 3 months time for a visit.
My question is my visa is for multiple entries (b1/b2). Can I travel as often as I want for the duration of the visa? By the time I travel again it would have been 4 months since my last trip. Is 4 months too early to travel back again. Will that be a problem at the POE? My last travel was for a conference but now I want to go for leisure for 2 weeks. I have my own business here at home and i think I deserve some break to rest for 2 weeks to clear my head. Seyewest & Co over to you all. I applied for and got my visa through advise her (with prayers too), and entered first time through advise from here too so I eagerly await your response on this. Thanks

I"m keeping tracks too. Search everyday. Destination Chicago and ticket is almost 500k. I'm starting to think I should go thru JFK which cheaper and purchase onward return ticket from JFK to Chicago. Though I plan buying it here b4 leaving. Is this going to be an issue at the POE?
