davidylan:I thot I was the only one who was wondering. Huxley is a disturbed man. For someone to so furiously, tirelessly and joblessly attack christianity like this is disturbing. gbekumoyan:Thank you jare! I have been trying to tell him and everyone else attempting to answer his so-called "questions" to stop wasting their time. |
KunleOshob:Your true character is showing clearer with each post. I was actually refering to huxley as he's the one who asked the question and is the only one who does not profess to be a christian on this thread. But if your conscience bothered you when you read that, that should be a clear indication to you something is wrong. Being spiritually minded is not something a christian attains, but rather it comes naturally when they are indwelt with the Holyspirit. Every true christian is spiritually minded, it is the level of maturity in Christ that varies. |
I applaud him bringing up the question, why? Because he approached it with thought. I do like it when people even try to discredit Christianity, it gives God a chance to do something great. God cannot be discredited. I am a Christian but I also like thought. He gave a suitable rebuttal and I applaud it.
okay thanks for explaining, at least I understand why you said it. You're going to have to give more insight into it. How did he fulfill the law by destroying? What is the law? Don't forget Jesus is the law? Going by your response, did Jesus destroy himself?I will be glad to, I am glad you asked. Lets look at the scriptures that some say contradict each other: Matthew 5:17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. Ephesians 2:15 by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, Romans 10:4 Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes. Galatians 3:19 What, then, was the purpose of the law? It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come. So let us ask this question why would the scriptures say in Mt that Jesus did not come to destroy the law, BUT then in Ephesians it says He abolished in His flesh the law? It is because the Law was not just simply destroyed, its fulfillment was to be destroyed! Do you get it now? So when Jesus said He came to fulfill the law, He was in essence saying the fulfillment of it was its destruction or abolishment or replacement etc. This is why other parts of the NT talk about how the law is no longer applicable or no longer applies to us. Becos if you took Jesus words at face value in Mt you would have a contradiction - just like the carnal minds here that are trying to understand these spiritual truths that are beyong their capability. The ark of the covenant is called that for what reason What was contained in the ark?Not sure what you're trying to ask here, please explain more. To my knowledge the covenant or law contained in the ark is the ten commandments. Did Jesus destroy the ten commandments?I responded to this earlier on this thread The general rule is anything in the OT not negated or modified in the NT is still valid.I hope these sufficiently answers your questions. Cheers! |
KunleOshob:Gosh kunle, I am slowly losing any respect I once had for you. Your condescending attitude is repelling, like I asked you before do you think you're the only one that does research and has studied? do you think you're somehow better and more knowledgeable than everyone else here? That you yourself after all your biblical gymnastics on NL don't understand this very simple fact. I could further engage in this discussion but I won't becos I know it will not be fruitful and I honestly have better things to do. . . this is why I prefer the sports forum |
huxley:
Thank you for this question. It is very brilliant. I would like to see how people answer this. I am very grateful for you asking about this. I brought it up and David jumped on my neck quoting other passages in the Bible. I still stand that the Bible isn't contradictory but the interpretation of it by so called Christians is.
Ignorance prevails aplenty here. and Lady I expected more from you, to use the word "brilliant" to describe huxley's enquiry, when you know he's only seeking to discredit christianity. Nevertheless against my better judgement I'll answer this so-called contradiction. "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them" It's very simple really but i do not expect a non-christian to understand nor accept it. Jesus fulfilled the law by destroying it (is this simple statement too complex for your mind to comprehend?), replacing it with the New covenant, a covenant based on grace and faith in Christ. There is no contradiction here. Huxley, your carnal mind is not capable of understanding these kinds of things, and I'm not trying to sound condescending, it's just the plain truth. 1Cor2:13This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. |
shylladear:I would be wary of trusting such stories my sister because of all the liars and false teachers out there. I don't even see how such stories would advance the kingdom of God. At the end of the day we have to take their word for it, they cannot "prove" their experience. Which is why we should just stick to the bible and what we know, using that only as the building blocks for our faith. BUT the bible does leave plenty of room for people having visions and dreams revealing deep and glorious things. I believe as the bible allows that God can give people visions and dreams BUT as for physically going into heaven/hell - I don't see the foundation or justification for that. We do see in the bible Jesus raising Lazarus who'd been dead for days. So a person dying and being raised by God is not an improbability. But again in this godless age I'm skeptical of the validity of most stories I hear - but I always try to remind myself that my skepticism doesn't necessarily negate its authenticity. Cheers! ![]() |
Shaz:Right on. kufreabasi, The general rule is anything in the OT not negated or modified in the NT is still valid. For example the Law is no longer valid becos Jesus gave us a new covenant. Another example, the 10 commandments, they are still valid becos they are basically echoed in instructions and teachings all thru the NT in various places. |
KunleOshob:And therein lies your problem Kunle. Do you think that the "understanding" of the things of God comes from our feeble human minds? NO! understanding comes from the Holyspirit. And an unbeliever trying to discern the word WILL FAIL because his mind just simply cannot grasp the bible. Period. Again: 1Cor 2: 13This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. 14The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. Jesus said "Believe" and you will be saved. He did not say go and do your research, go and try to reason it out, go and search and study, NO. He simply said "For God so loved the word that he gave His only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life". The only thing christians are to do is tell others the gospel, and all they are to do is either believe it or not. Period. Belief is not based on whether or not you can logically prove what is said in the bible, God has called us is to simply believe. Christ said "blessed are those who believe even though they have not seen". This is not to say you should not use your brain and think things out BUT God requires simple child-like belief in Him and His word. The truth is that there are a few complexities in the bible that even pastors and preachers don't understand and they now come up with verses like you just quoted to conceal their ignorance / lack of understanding / contadiction in the bible. You know what I find contradictory and unrealistic? for you to say you're a christian but yet still hold to the notion that the very word of God, the bible is imperfect; for you to suggest that there is "confusion" in the bible. The truth is that the bible is a compilation of several different books written over a period exceeding 3,000 years by several different authors. The bible as been reviewed and varied several times. are you aware that there were over 600 books that were being used as scripture before the bible was compiled in 336AD by the roman catholic church? Are you also aware that the original compilation had 80 books, befoe martin luther reduced it to 66? Do you know that there are over 100 translations in to the english language alone? How can such a book be perfect?? It is painful for me as a christian to admit but the reality is that the bible is not the completely perfect book that it is being made out to be. That not withsatnding it is still the greatest and most profitable book ever. For you to understand and appreciate the bible better, i suggest you do some research on the history of the bible and see for your self. you could do a google search on the topic.Lol. . . Kunle do you think you're the first and only one doing "research" and studying the roots of the bible? Do you think that the millions of christians out there that trust the bible are all lost and misguided? Listen I am not trying to convince or persuade you but please think gravely about the insinuation that you're making when you say the bible is not perfect as a christian. Why then do you even bother to read this imperfect book? why do you quote it? why do you follow it at all? if it's not perfect then my goodness doesn't that make you a little foolish for living by it? this is the same imperfect book you use all over the religion board to support/refute your claims. You cannot have it both ways, believe the bible for some things then use the same mouth to say it has flaws. It is simple, you either believe the bible or not. You can't have one foot in the door and one foot out. |
shylladear:what does the bible teach about this? some people say that the moment you see heaven you cannot come backwhat does the bible teach about this? but we also have those that say they have been to heaven and are backwhat does the bible teach about this? Hebrews 9:27 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment. That verse should firmly answer all your questions. |
shylladear:I don't know which bible you have been reading because there is no contradiction in the bible I have. Please dear back up your claim by showing us these "different story lines". . . And that is why most unbelievers, find it hard to understand the bible when we try to preach to them,Are you speaking for yourself or are you speaking for someone else? It is impossible for an "unbeliever" to understand the things of God. 1Cor 2: 13This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. 14The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. Unbelievers have NOT been called to read and understand God's word . . . they have FIRST been called to BELIEVE in Jesus, His death and ressurection and after the Holy Spirit works in them and imparts his spirit into them THEN they can read and understand and discern the word of God - get it? The bible is not a textbook or a newspaper, if you attempt to read it logically using human understanding you WILL FAIL. And if you're saying others have pointed you to places in the bible that contradict or are wrong then you yourself don't know the bible, you're allowing people to twist and confuse you because you yourself are not grounded firmly in the word. |
hey anyone see the WNBA fight from couple days ago between LA & Detroit? lol . . . its funny & ironic, this is probably the most attention the wnba has gotten all year or probably even ever. See ladies, all you had to do was fight, just like the men, and then people will pay attention to you. Imagine the media coverage these teams will get the next time they play each other . . . I might even watch . . . hehe |
LASIEFAIRE: cool
@Jesoul I heard that news and it was pretty funny where ATL paying him that poorly? is he really leaving the bright lights of the NBA for Greece the dude is getting paid major. 9 out of 10 times players will choose the money over other factors. Plus his 3yr "lucrative" deal allows him to opt out after each season so he can return to the nba whenever he wants - smart deal if you ask me. |
olabowale: JeSoul, there is still a seat in the Islamic bus.lol, oga I am all set on the heaven-bound train express. . . ur bus will stumble upon Christ the corner stone and crash. Is Northeastern, Wentworth, Boston College, etc, not in Beantown? I know that you will claim Harvard, MIT are in Cambridge. There is no fairytale, my sister. I have many friends in these places. I have heard stories. Here in New York City, it is no different. While the muslim men insisted on getting married first, the women are willing to go for the ride!I will say it again, I dunno where you found these "christian women". . . real christian women do not think or act like that! JeSoul, am still waiting for you, for a change of religion. When there is no death, the deeds are not finished, yet.and you will wait forever! I love God, Jesus and the HolySpirit and will walk faithfully with them until I breathe my last breath. I am even prepared to die for Christ cos absence from this body, means to be present with God. I wish your eyes would be opened to the truth alhaji. . . I really wish |
samba123:I'm tempted to give you the go-ahead to "produce these atrocities" but let me save you the failure your efforts will produce. Islam doesn’t promote violence as what you hear in the Media and in newspaper, they are unfairness people among the Muslims world when somebody take action of evilness in the community and spread the news around the world to hates them.Do they really? After September 11th and July 7th in london what we saw on cnn were islamic countries, their people on their streets jubilating, celebrating those terrible acts. Where were the clerics and alhajis chastising the people for acting like that? rather they were leading the celebration. So please don't think I'm naive enuff to believe the fairytale that islam is a religion of peace. . . even my 3yr old niece knows that is a BIG LIE! Do the Quran authorized those evils act or the individual who violated the sanctity of God laws? There have been billions of threads here on NL showing verses in your qoran that encourage you to fight jihad and destroy the unbelievers, there is no need for me to repeat them a simple search will show you. |
Josh Childress is leaving the NBA for Greece as ATL refused to "show him the money" this is slowly chipping away at the potential obstacle in the Celtics way of repeating that was called Atlanta. LASIEFAIRE:ah ah I told you to go to the nearest big name bank to collect it, and tell them I sent you
@Jesoul I am gap-toothed already the last thing i need is someone extending that gap .If Artest try am i go fight back ooh
Just make sure you put him to shame , and leave open the possiblity and & justification for suing his behind later ![]() |
doyin13:its integrity/reputation vs. money I already know where Doyin and Lasie stand on this one ![]() If Artest knocks out a couple front row teeth it might be hard to enjoy that money. Plus that visual evidence will be available for all to see, including potential dates, coworkers, your greatgrand children. . . hehe . . . The trick is to let Artest instigate the fight, maybe let him land a small swipe and then A-40 can finish it off. . . that way he can still sue for assault and claim " ![]() |
LASIEFAIRE:For where? Howard is still just a "potential" star to me right now, he has a LOT to prove before any team can make him their franchise player. Artest will do both their jobs combined and even more.Yes he will, until 1month into the season when he'll decide he wants to finish his rap album or he'll get arrested or join A-40 in the crowd and start fighting
@Jesoul Species get level we are the only ones in TX yet to win a ring San Antonio has 4 Houston have 2 the taunts are becoming unbearable
If that be the case then I no blame you . To quote the karate kid "desperate times call for desperate measures" ![]() We don't mind Artest lol and i don't think he would be too keen on going back to rap K-Fed(Brit's husband) almost sold more than him!As for punching me hmm he would be in for a big suprise Naija boys don't play oohlol . . . just make sure sha when they show the replay on sportscenter na you dey land that uppercut on his face - not the other way round ![]() |
Ibime:I second that. Infact take a look at most nairalander's locations. . . most of us have "dumped" naija already ![]() |
is there something in the air on NL these days with all these kinds of ridiculous posts? ![]() @post, what an insult to God! do you think he's santa claus? or someone you can order around to "do something for you in 7 days"? ![]() |
God help us with all this kind of false doctrines flying all over NL. Infact Ukochi your post is so full of falsehood and fairytales I dunno where to begin. I pray no immarure soul reads this n takes it to heart. For starters your title, "How To Qualify For Gods Blessings" - have you not heard that nothin we have received was as a result of works? even the very faith we have in Christ is a gift from God. You cannot "qualify" for "God's blessing", what kind of statement is that? |
papa giddy: tpia:ROTFLOL . . . tpia that is indeed in the list of top 5 most ridiculous things I have read on NL. . . retreats on the moon? lol . . . KunleOshob:lol. . . una no go kill me with laff for NL |
samba123:My dear brotha, just cos all kinds of bad, evil, murderous people have committed crimes while falsely using the bible or christianity as their justification has no significance to this discussion. The fact is mooslims committ all kinds of acts of violence, in the name of Jihad - and sanctioned by your qorani, and many of them do this with the expectation of reaping a luscious reward in the form of 70virgins. |
Alhaji I even forgot about this thread until I just stumbled back upon it . Bawo? I hope all is fine with you and yours oh ![]() olabowale:So all you have to look forward to is wanton food and sex? wow I feel sad for you and all mooslims.Even today, there are virgins among the Christians wanting Muslim men to be the ones who disvirgined them. Why? They know that Muslim men are probably not going about jumping from bed to bed in illegal sex. Right there in your Beantown, I know them. These are white and also black women.Me I don't know which "christian" women you heard this from but I can guarantee you it is a l-i-e! And for which side in beantown? lol. . . Alhaji abeg stop this fairytales. . . What Muslim men and muslim women will have are pure partners. InshaAllah, I will be made pure for my partners. And my partners will be made pure for me. JeSoul, avoid hellfire, the abode of those who are not Muslims. Get with the program. Come to this side of the divide, then prepare yourself pure for a pure partner. In yoruba expression; Aiye dun nje ju iya loo. In heavenly term, Aiye Jije is Paradise, while Ija jije is hellfire. Don't wait until its irreversible. You are warned, already. You can blame anyone, after this.Eya, don't worry about me sir, I am held firm and secure in the love of my Lord Jesus Christ . Him only will I ever love and serve and I'm prepared to die for Him. Only Jehovah is the true God, all others are just posers! lol. |
We can be worse off than we already are two more first round ousters from the playoffs and we would be level with the Denver Nuggets for number of consecutive first round exits and if you ask me its better not to make the playoffs than to be a consistent first round losing team
Kai, you are def spoiled! Ask NY and Mem and Mil and other teams that suck if they'd like to trade places with the Mavs having not made the playoffs in forever. While it must be frustrating to keep making first rd exits, you guys must be patient. . . championship teams are not built in one season. . . the Celtics were an anomaly that is not likely to repeat so soon. But hey if you want Artest, oh boy you go get am . . . but no start to dey cry come 1month into the season when he decides he wants to pursue his rap career instead of bball, or plows into the crowd in your arena and punches you out ![]() |
Yeah I don't think they're any brand name players up for grabs right now but things do open up and change as the season progresses. I think patience will be the virtue well fitted for this circumstance. Cos if the Artest thing doesn't work out, the Mavs will be worse off than with George & Erika D. ![]() |
LASIEFAIRE:hehe, Zimbabwean dollars? now you're talking. based on current conversion rates 265,000,000 in Zimb dollars = $9,247 U.S. dollars. Just go to your nearest bank Wachovia/BankofAmerica/Citigrp/Chase/JpMorgan and tell them I sent you. . . ![]() |
@Jesoul That must have been some real good weed we wouldnt mind Artest in the Mavs at last we would get someone that can play some good D and assist Dirk in getting them boards we would gladly offload Devean George and Ericka Dampier
Artest's D is certainly his one n only sales pitch. Once their executive board conducts a cost-benefit analysis, they should quickly discover that Artest is not a risk worth taking. You guys should see what happens with the present squad this yr, or look to make a mid-season trade for some disgruntled/unsatisfied player or shoot for the free-agent market next summer to pick up some good, dependable, quality defensive veteran rather than seeing if Artest will have another mental episode. . . I dunno I just don't trust that guy at all. He has lapsed on every team he's gone to so far and your Mavs will not be immune ![]() |
SeanT21:Female A-rod huh? hopefully without all the tabloid drama A-40, I've been hearing rumors that your Mavs might be trading for Artest? Hmmm did Cuban hook up with Josh Howard n start smoking weed too? ![]() |
hehe na $360million you dey find? you wan make I go rob bank? actually make that rob 50 banks! Well I have been watching "Entrapment" and a couple other heist-themed movies, maybe it's time to put that knowledge to good use? SeanT21:hmmm it will take photographic and telgraphic evidence for me to bite and swallow this pie ![]() |
LASIEFAIRE: . . . am I forgiven? doyin13:ah curling ke? no way oh Doyin, that one is inexcusable! you're on your own with that. debosky: doyin13:I second that! ![]() |
LASIEFAIRE:LOL . . . too late, it has already been added! lol ![]() |
