There has to be a scapegoat

It's nice to exercise well, eat reasonably and all that but there's also the God-factor to consider. Besides where does this guy place stray bullets, all sorts of terminal accidents, witches, wizards and all what not! I think the God-factor is key to all the other ingredients, you better know God through Jesus and have them on your side or else..

If the caregiver had been there, would that have stopped the child from hurting himself? Probably or probably not! One of our citizens was jailed the other day in UAE because she streamed pictures/video of Nigerians stranded at the airport/immigration. Mr. Floyd Mayweather did no less and was granted preferential treatment. No one to speak meaningfully for our own, I repeat, "how did we get here?"

And besides, just as you met her on Facebook so she must have met lots of others like you too on the same platform. You also mentioned something about getting physical with her, is it to beat advise or sense into her or what? 32 is not too old or young for marriage, just let your sister know that money and comfort in life are not ends in themselves. People like you sometimes worry me! Are you saying that if you are advised by anyone on this forum to go ahead and put your hand in fire, indeed you would go ahead to do so!! Why don't you just take responsibility for your actions. Any man messing around with someone else's wife is messing around with fire and would ultimately get burned. Beware!!!

It is certainly not the duty of honourable members to provide amenities for their constituents from their salaries and emoluments. Their duty is to make laws and facilitate the environment that would prompt government to provide these amenities. However you can see that the "distinguished" got it all wrong. He like many others cannot draw the line between making laws and execution by government. They have appropriated both for themselves, they make the laws and want to execute them at the same time. Former governors who are now senators are yet to shed the toga of the executive and adjust to the role of "merely" make laws and providing meaningful oversight. Unfortunately they have forcefully taken up both roles and are surprised that their constituents keep bombarding them with all manner of requests. Whose fault?

Any father correcting a 26 year old in that manner has probably failed as a parent. Spare the rod and spoil the child, the good word says but I wonder if the child mentioned here also includes 26 year old adults. Such discipline should have been done like say 10 years before. My man, some of us have also been through similar experiences probably not exactly the same and we coped well. Why? Only because God's time is best, He knows when to lift one up and bring the other low despite putting in one's best. Your turn shall come provided you remain diligent and focused on the right things. This might help you.
A few years ago 2 of my colleagues and I were on the same rank but I was their senior by virtue of entry point and promotion. We went for the next promotion interview together and they scaled through while I didn't. One of them asked that I should be preparing memos for him which I politely declined while I was instructed to be reporting to the other one. The powers that be expected me to react negatively or leave for some other schedule but I did neither. I chose to eat humble pie and so I can advise you and others facing such indignities today with candor. Do not get yourself pushed out of a job because of the way you feel. Think man!

That's the price boyfriends and girlfriends pay when they start living as husbands and wives before the time. Is it bonding you call it?

Some of the questions from the authorities should be -
How did he get to Katsina? Who aided and abetted his movement? Are they sympathisers or fellow conspirators or are they terrorist moles stuck in the fabric of society exposing our lives to danger?

Sometimes I do wonder at the comments made by people speaking for those in authority. Citizens are mowed down, maimed, abducted, killed and so gruesomely in Nigeria everyday and all we get as explanation are these pitiful platitudes. What happened to our humanity? Is it not blood that runs in all our veins or maybe something else runs in theirs?

It took only 24hours or thereabouts to identify and hunt down this person but people who commit such terrible killing in Nigeria are yet to found weeks, months and even years after!

ASUU - Academic Staff Union of Universities, the umbrella union for university teachers in Nigeria has for more than a decade become synonymous with industrial disputes. Their prolonged strikes and absence from academic activities have stemmed largely from perceived inadequacies in fund allocations, emolument, allowances, infrastructure, teaching aids and all what not. When you hear them out, the position presented by them sounds plausible. Their grouse according to them is with their employer, GOVERNMENT.

The question we need to ask is this, "WHO IS ON ASUUs SIDE?"

I am a parent, I have a child in one of the state universities, I am not on ASUUs side and I stand to be corrected. I struggled to pay the school fees for a session Year 2021/2022 and did same to secure a room off campus for my child since the institution is non-residential. Another rent is due in September 2022 and yet 5 months or more have been wasted with no chance of reimbursement!

My child's contemporaries in private universities are privileged to have a regular calendar of academic activities devoid of consistent disruptions due to disputes with their employers, as such their graduation in 4, 5 or 6 years is guaranteed. The parents of these ones can then have a breather and face the responsibility of bringing up their other children. I do not have this grace and I fear what would happen when my other child dispenses soon with secondary school and comes to join her brother. On this too, I am not on ASUUs side.

I was a student at the University of Ibadan (UI) from 1984 - 1988, I put in for a 4-year programme which was concluded within the academic calendar provided despite a number of industrial actions during the period by ASUU, NASU and other associated unions. It appears the unions then had a breed of special people quite different from the ones we now have today. They were obviously more considerate and conscious of the future of the wards in their care, they would not allow a 4-year programme to extend to as much as 5, 6 or maybe more years with all the frustrations that come along. Besides they may have figured out that the grass need not suffer always when 2 or more elephants are fighting! On this too, I am not on ASUUs side.

Lecturers take pains to teach us that whenever we have a project, constant reviews and assessments are required from time to time to achieve our goals and objectives. This gives us opportunities to effect strategy changes where necessary in the pursuit of the project. Is it not amazing that ASUU has chosen not to apply this in the struggle to achieve whatever their objectives might be? Why is it that going on strike seems to be their most important weapon in their engagement with their employer, is it not obvious to all that the strategy has not worked? 2009 to date is 13 whole years, can it be that the same strategy of strike every now and then since then is still expected to produce a different outcome? ASUU should apply what they teach us and stop this hypocrisy. On this too, I am not on ASUUs side.

ASUUs employer have a whole lot of issues of governance to contend with and if the weapon of strike is employed by every facet of employee to achieve improvement in working conditions, I really wonder. Education is very important, a real pivot in the wheel of any nation's development but I think the end does not always justify the means. The strike strategy in my opinion has been over-utilized by ASUU without counting the damage to students, their parents or benefactors and the effect on the economy. On this too, I am not on ASUUs side. Please let them read and hear our cries of despair, maybe just maybe their eventual change of strategy might achieve a better outcome in deliberations with their employer. I rest my case.
