Rice - I think you produce almost zero and have to import it.

Ok And? I was talking about all grain products....Maize is by far our most popular grain, and makes up nearly 90% of our grain consumption........simple economics mean it is cheaper to import less popular grain like rice and wheat.

We don't have a grain deficit we export more grain then we import

Actually those countries were controlled by France and England. While Ethiopia declared war on Germany because they supported the Italians who decided to invade them.

If those countries weren't controlled by colonial powers no way would have been involved in European world wars.

We are exporting more than we are importing.....and there was a massive panic buy stage thanks to covid which drove up demand and thus imports.....

So tell me how we don't produce enough to cover our own demand?

2.1 + 15.8 = 17.9 million tons...from just 2 grain types

But if we are referring to grain in total, this 18 million tonnes is less than your total grain consumption of 19.7 million tonnes

Local consumption/Demand is 11.6million tons for maize and wheat demand is 3.3 million
