We have hosted world cups in the past, so that’s really not the issue. We cannot fire-brigade this one WITHOUT A NATIONAL EMBARRASSMENT OR TWO.
komekn: Egypt may have better infrastructure than ourselves in fact they probably do.
However, that's not the issue, we are talking about AFCON not the world cup or the Euros.
You will not have a massive influx of sports fans from across Africa converging in Nigeria. We are not talking l don't think of up to a million fans. Africans just don't have that kind money to spend a couple of thousand $ to spend 2/3 weeks on a football holiday in general and or interest.
So all this talk about hotels, etc Is premature.
What l want to say is l remember when Mali hosted AFCON in 2002. Whaaaaten Mali get we Nigeria no get times 50.
Nigeria has the capacity, the ability and existing infrastructure to deliver an Amazing AFCON. Only Lagos alone can do a fantastic job self. After all recently Guinea & Co even Rwanda were able to host AFCON.
So yes the politicians and government officials will have a field day lining thier pockets. Manipulating the situation for corrupt gain. Even with all these hurdles Nigeria can deliver an Amazing AFCON.
Now do a simple search by typing the country. Your celebrated hotel will be returned as the only hotel from Nigeria that got an award. Now look carefully at the category and the region in question. Does the region say Africa as a whole? See snapshot below. Do a similar search for other countries and tell me what you found
The award type is regional. If you are confused by that search other countries
Cc Mickael2
forgiveness: If it's about hotel, Nigeria's hotel are better. That's why they are winning awards ahead of Egypt's hotels.
Nicon hotel Abuja has won the best hotel in business category for the third time this year.
Best improved in terms of safety. You have forgotten the said airport was shut down for repair work in the runway not too long ago. You have been given an award for improvement. Shows how sad the state of safety was prior to them. You are just making up logic. Wait until Abuja is given an award based in facilities etc
I have checked the facts as regards ur claim about Nigerian hotels. Let me find that post and quote it with the facts
forgiveness: Currently, Casablanca international airport in Morocco, Mauritius international airport and Durban international airport are the best in Africa in the over 2m passengers per year category according to ACI rating.
Remember, Casablanca international airport has rail link long and some other facilities that gave it good rating. However, Abuja international airport that was rated the best in safety category by the same ACI has now added rail link, new terminal and hotel to its facilities.
Don't you think that will give it a better rating than other airports?
Having a beautiful and a big for nothing airport without safety and facilities is useless but that's what joebi and some Nigerians are after.
Nigeria is in a better position because all the stadiums just got renovated.
Or can you please tell me why Egypt is in a better position than Nigeria.
DrLikita12: I hope to see an all round improvement. Improving broadcasting would bring about a lot of positive changes so it is something I'd lIke to see- security/safety, better officiating, maybe even better pitches. But I can't really do anything.
The ultimate question is what is going to change about the organization of the NPFL in 2019? Besides club sides traveling less, how about the officiating and broadcasting part?
I saw your attempt at copying me. This is a guy who does not realize that a large airport needs to have a means of transporting passengers from one point to the other within the airport. And you consider a light rail transit to the airport better than a means of transportation within a very large airport like the Cairo international airport. I don’t even want to post links of rankings of airports in Africa. I have wasted hours arguing with u this fellow
Curtisaxel7: .....with some bowls of nkwobi and bottles of champagne on the table in front of them, and a couple of scantily clad teenage girls sitting on thier laps. .
It’s not an upgrade. Two different things even from your own description.
Modified Let me add, the meaning of the word, upgrade
Even if you have one, there is still a need for the other, of course depending on the size of the airport. The Cairo airport is huge. The 2nd largest in Africa I believe.
forgiveness: It's because rail link transports passengers away from the airport to the city. Unlike the mover that will just transport you from one spot to another within the airport. Don't you get it?
Apparently, the advantages for the rider include faster travel time and easy interconnection with other public transport. Additionally, the links benefit airports by drawing in more passengers via easy access.
Now tell me if this is not an upgrade. Yes, it's worth celebrating because no African country can boast of it save South Africa and Morocco.
The use of BUTs, IF’s is expected when it comes to Nigeria. Nobody is debating if we have the money to put up 10 international stadiums. We are talking about our poor maintenance culture. Give it a few years, the much celebrated new structures will need an overhaul of some sort. Of course corruption is linked to this.
Mickael2: Exactly. This is the only problem I would have with it because most of these politicians will budget enough money to tear down the stadiums and start from the scratch but they will only use 10% of the budget on the stadiums and the rest straight to their pocket. The corruption involved and the looting are the only reasons why I wouldn't want it here
It looks alright yes. Parts of tnew construction was already completed weeks ago. It’s not like magic happened a few days ago. But like you said, it is alright and functional,is it better than the Cairo international airport? I don’t think so
DrLikita12: Side note: I don't want to get involved in this argument but the Abuja airport is no longer under construction. It was recently opened to the public (2/3 days ago). It's not the most beautiful but it looks alright. It's also functional which is what matters most I think. There's a video on FAAN's twitter page. You can draw your own conclusions.
The way he put it speaks volumes. I don’t know if anyone else gets it
Mickael2: I wouldn't know because you didn't tell me. However what he said word for word...first of all he pointed out that the hotels there aren't any better than the ones we have in major cities in the country, that I can remember vividly. But conclusively he said that Egypt is no better than Nigeria. If that means we are on par or we are better than them depends on how you explain it
How is that an upgrade? Does the rail link mean that passengers can be transported from one point of the airport to another? Upgrade? Are u kidding me? Have u been to the Abuja airport lately? Is that what you are celebrating?
forgiveness: Then, remove the log in your eyes to see better because you are not seeing properly.
Does Cairo international airport have airport rail link? That is even an upgrade version of airpot mover people system. Maybe you don't know.
As we speak, Abuja has an airport rail link and it is currently in operation. Fact
Nigeria is better than Guinea-Bissau, Benin republic etc great!! Always under construction story. Let it start running and let’s give it a little time and see.
forgiveness: Seriously! Who said Nigeria is doing fine?
Nigeria is not doing fine but we should not be totally blind towards development going on.
I live in Abuja for ur info. And I’ve used the Abuja airport more than 5 times within the last few months. I’ve seen the construction currently going on. How is Abuja airport better?
We are talking facilities here. Is there an airport in Nigeria that can boast of an airport mover people system to start with? Let’s talk about what is working not what is under construction.
5 years from now we will still be taking about these same stadiums undergoing renovation etc.
Does Nigeria have an airport rail link system? If so is it Currently in operation? All your talk na under construction.
forgiveness: This is airport mover people system. It is only used to transport passengers from one location to another within the AIRPORT. It's totally different from airpot rail link system.
Now, tell me which African country has such facility in their airport.
As far as I am concerned, Abuja airport is better than Cairo international airport in terms of facility.
Get your facts right next time before you start degrading our facilities here.
TheGoodJoe: After we lost to South Africa, Rohr became very Conservative. That was where he started the talk of a big striker and Ighalo came back to the side. In that game against SA, Nacho started up top but Rohr’s tactical weakness not only let Nacho down but the team. After the loss, he chose an easier approach to win games than to build a formidable team.
Oh okay. Was he comparing what he saw to what is in Nigeria?
What if I told u I know someone that lives there.
So tell me how is Nigeria’s facilities better? Tell me what he said .
Mickael2: No. Our discussion has been wholistic right? I mean we are talking about everything needed to host a proper tournament including transportation, hospitality and other stuffs? That's what I am talking about, not the stadiums. Man went there to enjoy himself and he isn't a diehard football fan so why would he go and be watching Smouha vs All Ahly?
TheGoodJoe: The South African game we lost at Uyo did something to Rohr and killed his guts. Before then, he was not spectacular in creativity and attack but had some bravery to his game. It also affected Nacho's play with Rohr.
Sometimes I wonder what our leaders say when they hangout. I guess they say stuffs like Nigeria is doing fine. Stuffs that some of us here like to say. That’s our number one problem, denial of the reality. If the pride of our nation is truly at stake for them, they would sit up to their responsibilities.
Okay your colleague visited the stadiums and checked out their facilities?
Mickael2: Let me ask you if you have been to Egypt recently. Based on the report I got from a colleague not too long ago I don't think they have better facilities, in Africa I would only admit that South Africa and Morocco have better facilities than we do all things considered
forgiveness: Do one need great airports or a functional airport in good condition to host a mere AFCON?
Sometimes ehh, you wonder how Nigerians think.
Abuja airport is far better than all the airports in Sub Sahara Africa save for South African.
Which airport in Africa has train connected to the airport? Just two. Tambo international airport, South Africa and Casablanca international airport Morocco.
The almighty Egypt don't even have one.
Nigeria has 4 newly renovated and remodelled airports with newly built terminal.
I was there just a couple weeks ago. Even if it’s at its newest state, it’s far below world standard — or the best in Africa.
elyte89: Chief I onced worked in airport for almost a year(2015) to be precise, as at den,MMA2,was just renovated, new,d MM1,arik wing is OK,den close to MM1 where AIR PEACE Is too was newly built and was commissioned den by Jonathan's wife,I was dere,
You know the discussion I am referencing. Then, we talked about the best AFCON experience. And ofourse the airport which greets the players and officials is the first first-hand impression of the host country. Or maybe u think otherwise — typical of Nigerians
