There are many talented players that pop up at the U20 level. There is a big gap between the U17s and U20s. You seem to be forgetting the other kids. Didn’t this argument start when we noticed that our players from the local league fail trials abroad? Even if Finidi taught a few at the U17 level, it wouldn’t still solve the problem. If we know how to utilize people’s strengths in this country there wont be not be so much craze for the “top” job all the time. tbaba1234: The reason, i advocate for a coach like Finidi is that our players lack fundamentals. His experience in teaching fundamentals to kids for over 5 years in Europe puts him in a good position to impact fundamentals to kids.
Kelechi Iheanacho played for Nigeria under 15 and under 17 but once he got to the professional ranks, we can see his lack of fundamentals start to show a little more.
You can get away with pure talent in the youth ranks but once you get to the professional stage, you need a good foundation to push your talent to a world class level.
Look at Musa Muhammad, very talented but lacks fundamentals. So It is not `about winning trophies, it is about producing potential world class talent in the pro ranks. |

How about the youths that don’t make the cut at the U17 level. Teaching them the fundamentals should be MORE at the grassroots level than at the National team alone. It appears you didn’t see the modified. Winning at the U17 level is also important. Why not? tbaba1234: At youth level, the success is not about winning trophies. It is about giving youth talent the fundamentals to hopefully become world class professionals. |

Please see the earlier modified. We’ve also had coaches who were given the chance at that level but failed. They didn’t fail just because they were local coaches. They weren’t just good enough. Nothing is guaranteed either way — local or foreign. I’m not against Finidi being the main coach. I’m just saying we can utilize his input in other capacities as well. W daveP: Lol. Finally you've brought it to my doorstep...
Garba was given a chance. He grabbed it and did wonders. Thus his current status.
The Late Yemi Tella (God bless baba), also took an opportunity with the knowledge he had and turned excavated gold to refined Gold.
Amuneke.... just like Finidi that we are analyzing now, was given a chance too, and he did well.
Now tell me why Finidi won't, but would rather thrive as an Asst, when His current knowledge of the game and his love for very young talents will make him thrive?
Rarely do we have Indigenous coaches that are solely interested in the careers of the talents groomed... Overall fact! |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 7:57pm On Jul 28, 2018 |
Lol we are not talking about integrity, but performance. Let’s not digress. What I’m saying is Finidi could have the experience to train youngsters the rudiments of the game. But that does not necessarily mean he’d be better as a coach (and I mean APPLIED knowledge in using tactics etc to win games). Compared to Manu Garba, Garba is tried and trusted at this level. Could Finidi do better? Possibly. But his experience in Spain does not automatically translate to guaranteed success managing the U17 team for example. Modified I think it would do Nigeria MORE good in the long run if Finidi worked in a larger scale organizing clinics working with many youngsters all over the country. daveP: Okay.... Show me the exception in this Nigeria aside Siasia, which was more personal that professional.
I didn't say it's impossible. I'm saying it an imbalance which I consider an insult.
Yeah, I know it doesn't mean better, but in this case of Finidi, who is currently better? Another "Salishu Yusuf" from the NPFL waiting to happen again? Lol. |

A foreign coach can be assistant to a local coach. Why not? Foreign does not automatically mean better. daveP: As in Asst to a local coach? we've never gotten foreign for cadets now as far as I remember. |

That’s you talking. He may humbly accept that role for a start. The key word is humility tbaba1234: That depends on who the head coach is, some assistants have very limited input. With his background and experience in youth football though, i doubt he will want to be an assistant in a youth team. He will be more willing to be an sssistant in the Super Eagles. |

Nigeria has a bad reputation. Our image is not helping matters. However, we can turn things around,football-wise if we start to put our domestic league in good light. ChrisKels: Ghana didnt make it to the world cup yet, their players seem to be getting more recognitions in this summer window than ours. Here are some who made giant moves from obscure leagues to the Europe top five leagues.
1- Richard Arthur - Wa All Stars Ghana to Lyon, France
2- Kasim Nuhu - Young Boys Swiss to Hoffeinhem, Germany
3- David Twumasi - Astana to Derportivo Alavez Spain
4- Nicholas Opoku - club Africain to Udinese Italy |

Finidi can impact that even as an assistant. Some coaching personnel work as a team the. others. Some head coaches do not lord it over. Ideally, they bring together their strengths as a team. I have been in support of Finidi handling one of our cadet teams. But I don't see anything wrong if he is made an assistant to anyone for now. tbaba1234: Now you are getting to the point. Better coaches at the youth level will impact values that will help players become better professionals. A coach like Finidi with good experience in the spanish youth system which is probably one of the best in the world can impact inmeasurable knowledge to Nigerian kids.
Structure and coaches. |

Being an assistant to anyone is never an insult. There is always something we an learn from one another. You are the one saying this.. If Finidi were given an assistant job chances are he will not turn it down. daveP: Asst Coach?
That would be an insult on an injury yet to happen. why?
Baba Finidi is well versed and capable of managing a youth team on his own.
Why can't we see the handwriting on the wall. Spain invited him to do similar job at a summit. If the next Iniesta comes from that summit and gives credit to what Finidi imparted, is it then we would begin to blame NFF for not doing the right thing then?
I'm not saying he is all knowing, but Finidi is okay with a cadet team. okay name peeps he will be asst to first.
Haba. |

I agree. Some coaches even with their badges will not record successes. Nothing wrong with Finidi starting as an assistant. Manu MAY have an eye for talents than Finidi after all. Some people just have gifts. BascoVanVeli: Manu might only have a CAF badge but the success he has had at the U17 level coupled with the caliber of players he has developed makes this a no brainer. I don't see how Finidi starting under him should be an issue. Nigeria is not Europe he will need to get integrated into the system. Remember Emanuel Amunike did the same thing before leading his own team to glory |

There are a lot of corroborating points to buttress our claims against many politicians in Nigeria. Many of which do not even have a case to answer in court. In this respect your analogy does not apply against tbaba. komekn: Using your principle unit of measurement. It's like saying there are no corrupt politicians in Nigeria. Because effectively nobody has been convicted. in otherwords no verifiable information to prove they are corrupt.
In the same vein it's like saying there are no corrupt policeman.
I am in touch with local football in Nigeria. And part of the business modeler all the football academies was always to shave off the age of players to make them more attractive to European football clubs.
Age cheating is intrinsic to our society there is no facet of life official and or otherwise, that is not affected by age cheating in Nigeria.
Your approach is to give the benefit of the doubt when there is overwhelming doubt. That's to be biased, emotive and unbalanced, essentially delusional
We are not a people known for integrity. It's often said that leadership of a country reflects the people of that country.
The reality is we all know the dynamics of our country and some of us want to pretend
It's like saying that we have continously had free and fair elections in Nigeria because thier have been almost zero convictions for election rigging.
LETS BE REAL.
We could say vice versa that until I have substantiated irrefutable evidence of someone's date of birth he or she is age cheating. The choice is yours. |

You re very constructive in your arguments. I like that. If any of you don't believe the guy is 18 make valid points at least. tbaba1234: I speak from evidence. I do not not just accuse blindly. If i say, a player is overage, it is because i saw evidence, not because of anything else
A boy that was still in secondary school in 2015 is very unlikely to be 26/27. He is not like some players in the under 20 team who had already graduated form higher institutions at that time. |

It's a clear case of conflict of interest. This is not Nigerian politics. Yusuf is done. The NFF will have to follow FIFA standards in handling this issue as they have to protect their integrity. Spy360: Bro I know its illegal, but if you want to catch a thief allow him to steal, don't force stolen money into his hands.
The undercover attempt for me wasn't entirely successful in nabbing the coach. The agent could have allowed him to make demands no matter how small.

Your ‘most’ and “some” won’t go unpunished when caught in that similar circumstance. Why? Because it’s illegal. Spy360: I have just read the transcript ofvthe convo between Salisu and Tiger. The coach was a victim of circumstances, and the under cover agent was intent on making him out to be corrupt rather than testing his morals. Salisu already knew the two players in question who were first team membera would definitely feature bar injury and sickness, and he pointed that to the agent without qny demands or any anticipated offer. The crooked under cover agent, forced money into his hands and made offers that Salisu neither requested nor needed any assurances. Fact is that, most coaches in Africa or some in Europe would probably do same within same circumstances. Ask Sam Aladyce. |

The problem is we have not watched these lads play to really make judgements. There are rumors of underhanded deals. Should ther be truth to it, chances are Omidiji -- and not limited to Omidiji -- is not getting the nod to start in order to make other players look more valuable. I don't think forumites here have ever said FBs should be favored. The clamor has been for deserving FBs to be given a chamce to compete. ChrisKels: C bro I am pro foreign born and local born players. Choose the best, thats all, no favoritism. No preferential treatment bkus no one is more important than the other.
The team is doing well with Lateef coming in from the bench, if Lateef aint down with that, he can go. The coach makes the selections not Lateef.
If we continued this way, these fb guys would start feeling more valued than their local counterparts. And u know where that would land us |

It’s implied. If the “agent” was direct the coach would be uncomfortable. The coach should not be taking “gifts” from agents in the first place. The “agent” by offering Salisu 15% should all go well did his part to influence Salisu’s future decisions. The coach erred by not turning it down especially at that point. Icon79: Honestly, this is NOT as bad as it sounds. I have problems with Yusuf taking the money and the accepting the offer of 15% if a contract happens, but other than that this transcript doesn't show much corrupt intent.
