Is God ever seen? by Matt Slick Return to Christadelphianism Section Christadelphianism is known theologically as dynamic monarchianism. It teaches there is a god but that god is a single person. In contrast to this, the Trinity is one God who exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. To a Christadelphian, if God ever appeared in the Old Testament period, it would have to be the Father. This is problematic for them for two reasons. First, the Father cannot be seen according to Scripture, and second, if God did appear, then it would have to be the Father, which they cannot accept. Nevertheless, the following study answers both those issues and leaves the Christadelphian, with a problem to solve. In the Old Testament, God appeared many times to many people (Gen. 17:1, 18:1, Ex. 6:2-3, 24:9-11, 33:20, Num. 12:6-8. Yet there are verses that say that you cannot see God (Exodus 33:20, John 1:18). It would seem that there is a contradiction, but there isn’t. I will show you that there is no contradiction and that the theology that claims that God is one person is incorrect. This study is directed at the Christadelphians, but it would also be appropriate for the Jehovah’s Witnesses and The Way International. The Bible clearly teaches that God was seen in the Old Testament. This fact is even mentioned in the New Testament. Acts 7:2 says, "The God of glory appeared to our Father Abraham. . . " Did God appear or didn’t He? Let’s take a look at God’s Word. Exodus. 6:2-3, "God spoke further to Moses and said to him, "I am the LORD; and I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as God Almighty, but by My name LORD I did not make myself known to them." Exo. 24:9-11, "Then Moses went up with Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, and they saw the God of Israel; and under His feet there appeared to be a pavement of sapphire, as clear as the sky itself. Yet He did not stretch out His hand against the nobles of the sons of Israel; and they beheld God, and they ate and drank." Exodus 33:11, "Thus the LORD used to speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend . . . " Num. 12:6-8, "He [God] said, "Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you, I, the LORD, shall make Myself known to him in a vision. I shall speak with him in a dream. Not so, with My servant Moses, He is faithful in all My household; with him I speak mouth to mouth, even openly, and not in dark sayings, and he beholds the form of the LORD . . . " Acts 7:2, "And he [Stephen] said, "Hear me, brethren and fathers! The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran . . . " Some will say that the appearances of God were nothing more than visions, dreams, or angels that represented God. This is definitely the case in some instances of the Old Testament, but it is not the case here. For example, is an angel God Almighty? Of course not. Yet God says in Exodus 6:2-3 that He appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as God Almighty. Are these visions or dreams? Not so with Moses. Consider Num. 12:6-8 where God says that He does not appear to Moses in a vision or dream. Rather, Moses beholds God’s very form. Was God seen? Yes. Consider Exodus 24:9-11 where it says that 74 people "saw the God of Israel." It does not say a vision, a dream, a cloud, a flame, etc. It says that they saw God. Cult groups generally teach that when God appeared in the Old Testament that it was a representative angel, a "manifestation" of God due to that angel possessing the "name" of God upon him. As God’s direct representative, the angel was considered to be God Himself--though not really God. This is nullified by Exodus 6:2-3 where God says that He appeared as God Almighty. This is a title only applied to God Himself. Continued |
^^^ thumbs up The spirit in man is the breath of life from God the human soul is the spirit plus the body (a breathing creature) the body of man is flesh and blood housing his spirit Old testament for spirit is "ruach" - breath, mind New testament for spirit is "pneuma" - breath, mind Old Testament for soul is "nephesh" - a breathing creature New Testament for soul is "psuche" - breath, spirit, of animal creature and animal meaning flesh, includes man As you see spirit and soul are similar, perhaps only God knows the diffrence: Heb_4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. ril19 can you add anything more? |
I AM hayah (Hebrew) ha-yah going |

The quran says it's okay to lie: "Muhammad bin Maslama got up saying, "O Allah's Apostle! Would you like that I kill him [Ka'b bin Al-Ashraf]?" The Prophet said, "Yes," Muhammad bin Maslama said, "Then allow me to say a (false) thing (i.e., to deceive Kab). "The Prophet said, "You may say it," (Hadith Vol. 5, Book 59, #369). The quran says allah is deceptive: The Quran says, Surah 3:54, "But they were deceptive, and Allah was deceptive, for Allah is the best of deceivers." The word for "deceive" is makara, and it means "to practice deceit or guile The Bible says lying is from satan the devil: Joh 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. |
DeathStroke007:Ha ha, no, He is the Word, not part of the word: Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. Mistranslation of the text:this muslim quotes the watch tower bible ![]() "ho" means "the", and the meaning of "ton" is not known You have it back the front, >"ho theos" (The Divine/ The God) < your quote, is referring to the Word and not to the Father. Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the(ho) Word, and the(ho) Word was with God, and the(ho) Word was God. so according to you the Word is: "ho theos" (The Divine/ The God) and God is: "ton theos"(divine/a god) You haven't a clue, theon and theos both = God, ho = the ton = unknown, but is referring to the Father and not to the Word. You have everything back the front, and even so much of what you say is wrong anyway even if you had it the right way around. you will find exactly this wording). What a lot of rubbish you write, seeking out wrongly translated verses to suit your anti Bible ways. @bold "God" was manifested in the flesh, not "divine" was manifested in the flesh: 1Ti 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. Those who pervert the Gospel of Christ are accursed Gal 1:7-8. Man can only be saved through Jesus Christ, not through muhammad or Allah or anyone else. Act 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. |
DeathStroke007:It is you who said the Bible is a story book and rubbish it is you who said the Bible insults our Creator try telling the truth for once. |
2Co 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 2Co 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. ^^^ Ha ha, this person along with fellow muslim hockeyoilers and others, hasn't a clue about understanding the poetic and other literary styles of the Bible. And how could they understand, God has allowed satan to blind them because of their unbelief of the truth: 2Co 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 2Co 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. https://carm.org/bible-writing-styles |

Psa_99:9 Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy hill; for the LORD our God is holy. 1Pe 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. Joh_4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth 2Co 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. God is holy God is a Spirit who can the Holy Spirit be, but God. Psa 139:7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? Psa 139:8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. Jer 23:23 Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off? Jer 23:24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD. Joh 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. God is a spirit God is everywhere God resides in believers the Holy Spirit is of course God, who is a Spirit, God and the Word. "we will come unto him, and make our abode with him" "the Word was with God and the Word was God" "let us make man in our image" etc. |

lilbest4:Comparing stars with figs sounds figurative to me. Stars are hundreds of times bigger than our sun, and yet you say it's not figurative that the billions of trillions of stars are going to fall on Earth. ummm, do you think they will fit? |
lilbest4:@red, You also said "it's obvious that this revelation is not from the creator of the universe" I showed you that the revelation was from God, if I wanted to address another part of your post, I would have. @blue, God the creator of the stars obviously knows that stars in the sky are bigger than the Earth. You will never understand the figurative language of Revelation, when you don't even believe the literal parts. |

Rossikk:The Greek that the English translations come from say's: and head of him and hairs white as if wool white as snow and the eyes of him like a flame of fire The English Standard Version leaves out head, where does the ESV say arms and body? To burnish is to polish, burnished bronze refined in a funnace is a golden brown color, this is describing a heavenly glorified body, and not the human Jesus. "head and hair white like wool-snow eyes like flames of fire feet like polished brass His appearance like the sun shining at full strength" How can you compare that to Jesus Christ's appearance on earth? I wouldn't care about what color Jesus Christ is, Just who He is, the Saviour of the World. |
Not only His hair was white like wool, white like snow, but His head was too. Rev 1:12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; Rev 1:13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. Rev 1:14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; Rev 1:15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. Rev 1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength. By the way this is describing the Angel of the Lord, and certinally not the human Jesus. Rev 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: |
It's clear from scripture that the Word is God just some of the many verses: Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Joh 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. Eph 3:9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: Col 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. Heb 1:10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: Rev 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. The Word come Jesus Christ is not that virtue, but that eternal life that was with the Father in the beginning 1Jn 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; 1Jn 1:2 For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us; Joh 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. Not a virtue, but God the word, was manifested in the flesh: 1Ti 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. |
Sarassin:There are no contradictions, does everything have to be spelt out for you? John 1:1 talks about the Word being with God in Eternity before creation, He became Jesus Christ much much later in time. Your posted verses: "I will be his Father, and He shall be my son," "I will make him My firstborn," "Jesus Christ the son of Abraham the son of David", refers to the flesh and blood Jesus Christ, the person the Word became. The Greek term translated "word" is Logos. It signifies the outward form of inward thought or reason, or the spoken word as illustrative of thought, wisdom and doctrine. And the Word-logos is God-theos. John 1:1 In that verse John makes it clear that in the very beginning, God's purpose, wisdom or revelation had been in evidence. It was "with God" in that it emanated from him; it "was God" in that it represented Him to mankind (Jesus uses a similar expression in Matthew 26:28: "This is my blood" -- that is, this represents my blood). So you don't believe the Word is God, but is a virtue. Again I state that the subject matter of Proverbs 8v22 is wisdom personified. In actual terms proverbs 8 does not help you in any way to make a case for Christ at creation, I may be wrong but last time I checked, Jesus was a man. Wisdom here is personified as a woman: "She standeth, she crieth" (Prov. 8:1-3)You need to know when the virtue wisdom, is spoken off, and when it's referring to the Word. Oh and as for your quotations from Paul, don’t bother. Paul knew next to nothing about Jesus. He wrote purely about a spiritual creation of Christ, I would have thought it obvious.Paul had an experience with Jesus on the Damascus road where he was converted. The same Holy Spirit inspired Paul's writings that inspired the other writers of the Bible, and yet you say "Paul knew next to nothing about Jesus" Your entitled to your opinion here on this matter but from what you have written, I'm not interisted in them, bye. |
Pro 8:35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD. Joh 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Wisdom said: whoso findeth me findeth life John said: He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life Jesus said: I am the life Wisdom said: whoso findeth me shall obtain favour of the LORD Jesus said: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. |

Pro 8:25 Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: Pro 8:27 When he prepared the heavens, I was there:.... Pro 8:30 Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him; Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. Gen 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Gen 11:7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. Joh 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. |
Sarassin:@red, my interpertation of those two verses is exactly what the verses themselves say: Pro 8:22 The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. "In the beginning the LORD posessed me" "In the beginning the Word was with God" @blue, the 1 Corinthians verses support my view that the Wisdom spoken off in Proverbs 8:22-30 is the Word - the Lord Jesus Christ. 1Co 1:23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 1Co 1:24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 1Co 2:7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 1Co 2:8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. In 1 Cor 1:24 Paul calls Jesus the Wisdom of God In 1 Cor 2:7 what is the mystery, the hidden mystery of the wisdom of God, which God ordained before the world? verse 8, if they had known the mystery of that wisdom they would not have crucified the Lord of Glory. 1Co 2:7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory Pro 8:23 I was set up(anointed King) from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. Perhaps you will interperit what these six verses mean to you, to me they mean exactly what they say. |
