KunleOshob: Deuteronomy 22:28-29:
28 “Suppose a man has intercourse with a young woman who is a virgin but is not engaged to be married. If they are discovered, 29 he must pay her father fifty pieces of silver.[a] Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he may never divorce her as long as he lives.
Clearly here the penalty here is marriage (in the case of the girl being a virgin prior to the act) without option of divorce. this law to me seems man made and not divine. IMHO @kunleoshb I am sure you will agree that violating is not a good word shows that the man sinned. the penalty maybe too lenient but no one would have married the girl after such violation anyway (OT days) so the best option is that particular punishment.OT |

cleave to his wife. if u are really cleaving i m sure there won't be space for another woman
Matt 19:4 4He answered, "Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5and said, 'Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? 6So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate." |
Christianity Etc › Re: Born Again Polygamist by jokepearl(f): 2:13pm On Dec 17, 2008 |
KunleOshob: To answer all your questions above, there is no clear cut christian injunction that a christian cannot marry more than one wife. It really is an assumption with very weak biblical foundation. Only church leaders were instructed not to have more than one wife, this can be verified in the following passages:
1 Timothy 3:2:
2A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
1 Timothy 3:12:
12Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
The fact that it was only church leaders that were specifically instructed not to have more than one wife implies that the rest of the church members could if they so desired I think this idea of one wife was introduced when european culture mixed with christianity. Whilst i am not an advocate for polygamy, i believe it is wrong for preachers to present their personal opinions as the word of God and indoctrinate it. Such issues should at best be advisory and not presented as the word of God.
PS: If any one knows any clear cut bible quote which directs christians in general not to marry more than one wife, kindly post it here. I would really like to be corrected of this notion if i am wrong. Church leaders were not born church leaders they became leaders after their conduct and life was examined when they were church members like u stated their family was checked. If all members become polygamist then who becomes a deacon or bishop? all christian should endeavor to become leaders so, @ topic the man should have been left alone with his wives (my opinion) since he married them b4 he became a xtian though there is a school of though that says he do restitution but, |

Assuming KunleOshob post is true, that means one can come to the conclusion that its demonic then since the fallen angels are demons now.
But that apart most that, people that go into this method to know their future is acting from fear and and can't trust the God that says he has a future for us. we have the holyspirit now so he can teach me all things.
@kunleoshob Where did you get that from? |

Bastage: Mithras day was celebrated on the 25th of December and that's now the day that we celebrate Christmas. Even though the Bible tells us that Christ was not born in December.
And that's just one religion and just a small sample of the similarities it contains!!! Christianity also borrowed from a number of other religions as well.
No. It's total fact. Just because it doesn't agree with what you believe in doesn't make it any less true.
Some more similarities:
ATTIS - Phrygia: Born of the virgin Nana on December 25. He was both the Father and the Divine Son. He was a savior crucified on a tree for the salvation of mankind. He was buried but on the third day the priests found the tomb empty -- He had arisen from the dead (on March 25th). He followers were baptized in blood, thereby washing away their sins -- after which they declared themselves "born again." His followers ate a sacred meal of bread, which they believed became the body of the savoir.
BUDDIAH – INDIA: Born of the Virgin Maya on December 25th. He was announced by a star and attended by wise men presenting costly gifts. At birth angles sing heavenly songs. He taught in temple at age 12. Tempted by Mara, the Evil One (Satan), while fasting. He was baptized in water with the Spirit of God present. Buddiah healed the sick and fed 500 from a small basket of cakes and even walked on water. He came to fulfill the law and preached the establishment of a kingdom of righteousness and obliged followers to poverty and to renounce the world. He transfigured on a mount. Died (on a cross, in some traditions), buried but arose again after tomb opened by supernatural powers. Ascended into heaven (Nirvana). Will return in later days to judge the dead. Buddiah was called: "Good Shepherd," "Carpenter," "Alpha and Omega," "Sin Bearer," "Master," "Light of the World," "Redeemer," etc.
DIONYSUS - GREECE: Born of a Virgin on December 25th, placed in a manger. He was a traveling teacher who performed many miracles. Turned water into wine. Followers ate sacred meal that became the body of the god. He rose from the dead March 25th. Identified with the ram and lamb's and was called "King of Kings," "Only Begotten Son," "Savior," "Redeemer," "Sin bearer," "Anointed One," the "Alpha and Omega."
HERACLES – GREECE: Born at the winter equinox of a virgin who refrained from sex with her until her god-begotten child was born and was sacrificed at the spring equinox. He too, was called "Savior," "Only begotten," "Prince of Peace," "Son of Righteousness."
OSIRIS – EGYPT: He came to fulfill the law. Called "KRST," the "Anointed One." Born of the virgin Isis-Meri on December 25th in a cave / manger, with his birth announced by a star and attended by three wise men. Earthly father named "Seb" (translates to "Joseph." At age 12 he was a child teacher in the Temple and at 30 he was baptized, having disappeared for 18 years. Osiris was baptized in the river Iarutana -- the river Jordan -- by "Anup the Baptizer," who was beheaded. (Anup translates to John.) He performed miracles, exorcised demons, raised El-Osiris from the dead. Walked on water and was betrayed by Typhon, crucified between two thieves on the 17th day of the month of Athyr. Buried in a tomb from which he arose on the third day (19th Athyr) and was resurrected. His suffering, death, and resurrection celebrated each year by His disciples on the Vernal Equinox -- Easter. Called "The Way, the Truth, the Light," "Messiah," "god's Anointed Son,' the "Son of Man," the "Word made Flesh," the "word of truth." Expected to reign a thousand years. Is it not funny a lot of them were born on the 25th of December that's a little funny. The virgin birth has been prophesied long before Jesus was born so its easy for the devil to quickly use that to deceive people and organise a lot of virgin births. |

~Lady~: Anyway to answer the poster's question.
It could be because of what is going on in the Anglican church. They are now allowing ordination of gay priests. I do know that a significant number of anglicans have returned to the Catholic Church. Yeah the whole gay thing, split the church right down the middle, not so good. The Anglican commission Nigeria is against ordination of gay priests. I don't that's the problem. |

It has been sorted in another thread that white wedding is not the only way to be married. But parent consent (traditional marriage) is necessary and leaving both parents to live together so Gamine if this is what you mean then its not being committed it is being married. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Pre-Marital Sex Is Not Fornication by jokepearl(f): 3:29pm On Aug 16, 2008 |
lets assume pre marital sex is not sin (I don't agree sha). I am sure many of us has been in a relationship that didn't work out even though we had the intention of getting married initially. So we sleep with the person because u plan to marry him or her then u break up (for whatever reason), then u meet some1 else and u were so sure that he/she is the ONE then u have sex with him/her again but something happens (maybe genotype prob) then u break up again then it goes on and on and on and on and on, U've end up sharing the thing meant for your husband with 10 people yet u have not sinned.
if your body rules u then u are not of the spirit. |

lacrimose: I try to stay away from these kind of topics on sickle cell or (As). My partner and I are both AS. We are not married yet, but i am sorry, i guess we are one of those that don't worry about it. I guess the way nigerians look at life is a little different. It might because of past experiences and many of us carry sickle cell trait. I didnt think about it until i found out in my home church that they strongly advice against two AS's getting married. I was just inquistive and found out i was one and my boyfriend also carry the trait.
I understand people's arguments and respect it. but you only have one life to live. I heard some people on this thread saying marry an AA and leave a stress free life. Yes you can, but what if that person is not for you and u trade your happiness for genotype. You can never tell wot life is going to bring to you. Someone can have an AA child that might develop different kind of diseases or cancer or life long battle with mental issues, or might inherit genes that makes him/her a dwarf. The list of diseases you can inherit from both parents is endless. So to discourage people from following their heart should not be done. Just hope for the best. If you live in fear, u make decisions that might not be suitable for u as a person. I as a person would not change my opinions and i hardly talk about them because of how shallow people are. But then again, a lot of people going through sickel cell diseases are talking from their painful experience which is understandable, but know where u stand.
Please follow your heart and pray about it. If you feel that marrying an AS person is something you can't handle , then don't go ahead with it, but if life takes you into that direction, go for it but be ready and be strong. Hmm i do respect you. (I hope your partner feels the same way u do) But i believe you can find happiness with anyone. Why should the right person be AS and not AA. Darling if you witness the stress people go through (especially the innocent babies) you may feel different , the fear is killing believe me I have seen it. Dear I am not saying you should change your mind since there are so many options now available for couples with both AS but they are stressful and expensiveSo I'll like u just to change from i don't care to I do care and I can have AA kids even if i marry an AS. I hope u get me |

davidylan: funny how unrealistic this response is. Things Onyiidon has to consider if she takes the IVF option . . . - Cost - Where? - Will her husband be willing to "father" children that are not his own? - Whose eggs if the husband's sperm is used? Why can't their egg and sperm be use? Its just selecting and combining the ones that won't produce sickle cell. I also know that medically you can know the genotype of the baby as early as 2 months(during pregnancy). @poster i think you should move on. I know there is a place of faith but do you have that kind of faith and the medical options can be costly (too costly sometimes abortion). He can't stop you from moving on talk with him its not just about the both of you (future offspring should be considered) . |

I don't know if any1 has mentioned this, but most people go to church to get something, good things like blessing, word of God, encouragement etc. But the there is more joy and fulfilment in giving than receiving (not talking money here).
why not join a group in church where you can be a blessing so you won't just be going to church just to get blessed but to b a blessing to some1. this worked for me. I felt more useful and needed. |

I remember going to deeper live as a child (I was about 8 or 9) for a program, and a man spoke to me about why it was wrong to use perfume and wear ready made (to a 8/9 yr old imagine) even then as a child i was wondering what that has to do with Christ and God. I asked him why then did Mary pour perfume on Jesus leg. Its funny I still remember this but even at that tender age an opinion was formed and ,
But recently i met a lady from DLBC, and she was actually nice to me didn't condemn me and accepted i was a Christian even with my different appearance from hers, and i wonder why most are not like her. I learnt a lot from during my short stay with and actually followed to church,
Maybe if members are more patient and less condemning more youth will listen to the message they have. |

Let start with this question, What is marriage? I am going to give a biblical defination Gen 2:23-24.
To me so far the two families are involved and the wife's parent hands her over to the husband they are married. Even the church (Most churches i Know) can't marry two people without the two parents in agreement. The church is for blessing and also to involve the spiritual family. So there si no sin involved.
Even the church wedding is void without a court notice,
Let people respond first. |
