Items are prohibited for some reasons.

The fact that they didn’t check or detect yours or others, should not be a basis for others to flagrantly disobey rules.

Let’s mind what we post on forums where people come for information.
Yes true. I completely agree with u. However, what I meant by the "so called contrabands" are, some of the things we termed contrabands but aren't really . Dry meats, noodles (with or without chicken flavours) are allowed naturally but dried chickens, palm oils, and some perishables, etc are not.

So no, im not preaching that we bring in contrabands.

Anyways, we should use our discretion - that's my message.

I know some guys that brought Indomie without issues but not sure if this was Chicken, You can reserve that space for other food items like Ogbono and the likes that are pricey in African stores. You will get indomie cheap in African stores. I buy a carton for 20 dollars.

I came in with almost all the "so called " contrabands, most of the time they don't check it here, they have a whole lot to do and most times they leave the luggages at the baggage claim. At times they check the luggages when it's way more than 32kg.

Yes I brought meat (dried goat meats and ponmo) I brought chicken flv noodles, I even came in with chicken flavor Maggie cubes.

Some people will attribute it to luck, maybe, maybe not . But there are quite a number of people that brought in all these things and they don't have their bags checked. The main hurdle is leaving 9ja with these things. Canada only check bags randomly.

My best friend is currently doing something related to that at uofT, as a research assistant.

Yes im aware, thanks a lot. Its a reason i wanna venture into data science cos its that aspect that deals in the Machine Learning, and AI...

For a start, i planned to master my data analysis skills first while learning the advanced on the job as time goes on.

Thank you for the enlightenment.

Have you thought about digital twins and building energy modelling? Most of the software used is python based and it could be a halfway house between engineering and IT. It would enable you not neglect your construction experience and profit from the experience gained.

You might have to do a certification course in it or in Sustainable Energy Engineering but its a growing field that is expanding at the moment!

This is awesome. Me too. Moving from construction to data analysis, then data science as a semi-stop.

Im on the self-taught train but i have quite a number of networks helping me.

There is a road path that i researched for myself, as well as people who might want to learn on their own.

1. Programming for data science with python - udacity

2. Python 3 - codecademy

3.IBM Data analyst professional certificate -coursera

4. Data visualization with tableau- coursera

5. Data science - databricks (basic basic )

Please note that all of these courses are premium (paid)

So far, i v certs in just the first 2 and i v a handful knowledge of python (pandas , numpy), sql, tableau, github, and excel for analysis, well enough to get my first job (entry level).

With the Will and determination, one will go places...

Hello sir, i am currenrly in the same situatuion.. We applied for sowp for my wife june 5, we got bvl aug 12 and nothin ever since. I sent a mail few days ago and only got a generic response... Please if u can help me with yoyr email format. Im also calm too cos it seems faster as well...

Pyale:
SOWP PPR is here!....

Hello house, please rejoice with me as my wife's PPR just dropped. We applied on June 16 2022, review started first week in August and medical was updated to pass on August 8 (did upfront medical). Bvl letter sent on August 17th, and ever since then, no update!

Although we were worried why BVL was sent without PPR, we were calm as the application has been processed faster than we expected (65 wks processing time as at the time we submitted in June)

But on seeing the message that @Kam3 posted this morning that her/his PPR already dropped, I was motivated to contact IRCC since Kam3 submitted his/her application in July while we submitted June.

I immediately wrote an email to IRCC, explaining that we were yet to hear back from them since BVL was sent. I immediately received a confirmation email that I will be responded to in 5 working days. Since it's late here Canada, I was just about going to bed when my wife called that I should check her gmail for an email from IRCC.

Lo and behold, PPR message has dropped! That was just like 28 mins after I sent the email to IRCC.

I am happy to provide details of necessary docs that were submitted if anyone is interested in that. I am also happy to provide guidance for any future SOWP applicants. Meanwhile, my wife and I got married in December 2021, and I returned to Canada in January 2022. She just finished her undergraduate studies last month, so this good news is coming at the right time!

I want to use this medium to return all thanks and praises to Almighty God who facilitated my wife's SOWP.

I also want to thank everyone on this platform who has been so helpful in responding to messages, and providing necessary guidance on the SOWP application. Without your help and testimonies here, we wouldn't have been able to put forward a very strong application.

And for those of us still waiting for a decision, yours is next! Regularly pray about your application and don't lose hope.

And just an advice, when sending message to IRCC, be humble, praise them first, acknowledge that you understand they are dealing with lots of applications before making your request.

Thank you, Master JESUS!!!

It shall end in praise!

Gbos Gbas Gbam Gbus everywhere. Please let's all be calming down small small. Lol. And please we know how tense this ban has placed most of us who have already made plans to travel. If not for the ban, some of us using Ethiopian airline will be thinking of landing at Adis Ababa in some few hrs. So please be mindful of information you put up here without proper proof. Don't just come and throw info and disappear without clarifications. People's mental health are involved here. Is it cos we are naturally strong and you think you will now play with our emotions. Please all let's just be cool and tolerate one another too. At Yemsol, I know how bad you feel but please take it easy ok. Let's not result in names calling and bashing. It won't help us.

I want you all to know that this ban won't last long. Already EU is seeing it as an unfair target against African nations with the immediate ban unlike previous bans on discovery of variants In this past.

Again as someone posted her about Aisha wanting to write to Canada whatever, I had expected Nigerians to troop in to Canada official handles in Twitter, Instagram and all that to air their views in polite manner. Trust indians, they no d sleep for this one. By now them for don disturb Trudeau tire.

So please na plead I dey plead oo. It affect me too. See me way buy 1 carton of chicken laps I go eat for plane, now I don almost finish half carton and I never even reach airport.

Thanks ketima, I appreciate your maturity. Perhaps I should tap into it.

Nairraland1981, apologies for the insulting words I used at you. I transferred aggression at you obviously. Please let's not toy with our emotions at this time....

Imagine, I don pack bag say I dey go ghana next week, dem con see omicron for ghana..

Lemme hold on to faith that Ghana won't be banned.

Nairaland1981, you must be mad for dropping such on this platform cos I'm so sure you just decided to utter the thrash in the bin that you call a mouth. Don't you know such statement can cause a lot of havoc on students here.

Its impossible for any country to ban another country cos of their passport. Such would lead to a political war and I'm sure the world wouldn't want that right now.

Landing Gist

So I booked British Airways flight for 30th of November. I had booked it since September, do the booking at MMIA so I paid in Naira at official rate.

Flight was for 11:45pm but I got to the airport around 4pm keeping with the advice given here to always arrive early.

First wahala was at the scanning machine at the entrance, they found my palm oil and said to take it out, that it won’t fly on BA, I didn’t argue I dropped it because I still had two more, which unfortunately ended up being trashed by BA just before departure (BA doesn’t allow frozen palm oil).

Agric people caught me this point and I had to dash them 2k, was hoping to escape it. After then I went weighed my luggage, had to shuffle some items between my carry-on and my checked in luggage before I was able to move ahead.

Showed the airline rep my passport, enrollment letter ArriveCAN, passenger locator form (mandatory for UK passage), vaccination card and COVID test. He confirmed the documents and gave me my boarding pass and yellow card to fill.

From there I moved to immigration, they collected my yellow card here, I was instructed to write my final destination address at the back of the card, Baba asked for tip I told him “nothing Dey” and they let me go.

Boarded the plane to London, the food was alright and we landed heathrow around 4am and that’s when I came online and saw the ban update sad

At 11:45 am we boarded the connecting flight, food was also good. After about 8hrs we were in Toronto. Used the machine to scan my passport and filled some information and a slip was printed out. Walked over to fort immigration check, the asked what food items I brought and I listed them asked if Toronto was my final stop, told him will be going to Saskatoon in January for school proper and I was directed to the place where I’d get my study permit.

Study permit didn’t take long, was only asked for the school I was attending and letter of admission which I submitted, it was checked and I was issued a study permit after which I was directed to public health for quarantine matters based on the new COVID update.

Anyways, I’m isolating now can’t wait for the result to be out so I can carry on with my life.

Sleep don full my eyes

Good one. Are you quarantining at their designated facility or at a hotel/airbnb at your own cost?

I went to KLM/Air France office in Abuja and i was told whatever update is on IRCC website is what they are following meaning they cant airlift students. I couldnt go to Lufhtansa again but i want to believe the information would most likely be the same, i'll try to go tomorrow though.

I have also been able to make findings from Lufthansa. They are only airlifting Canadian citizens and pr holders. They'll stop at Frankfurt for a rapid pcr test (to meet up with the 3rd party covid test) prior to continuing their journey to Canada.

Sudents that wish to re route should bare in mind that, Lufthansa does not have flights flying from Ghana/Benin.

Until Feb 1 2022, Lufthansa will not be airlifting passengers that are not Canadian citizens or PR holders,

So I just left wakanow ticketing office and they said they received a memo from their head office stating that study visa is not affected. But they told me it's only airlines that can give the actual type of visas that are affected or not. As such they're waiting for further information from the airlines plus people are supposed to fly tonight, that if the airlines allow people with study visa to board, we might have a chance.

I'm heading to Lufthansa and KLM office now if I can get direct info from them.

LONG POST ALERT!

My PPR journey

It's been Grace nothing else!

First time applicant

LoA @ Conestoga college: Dec 11 2020
•study visa application submitted: July 19th 2021
•Biometrics letter: July 20th 2021
•Biometrics completed and updated: July 22nd 2021
•Upfront Medical done: Jan 10 2021(months before applying for my visa)
•Medical updated to pass: July 27th 2021
•Eligibility review: sept 25th 2021 (sighted), not sure of the exact date it started.
I did not catch any ghost update
•BVL/ppr: October 26th 2021

My story
I got my admission into Conestoga College to study Construction management with coop (2 years program) Admitted for fall 2021. I deferred almost immediately to winter 2022 so as to enable me have enough time for researching on how best to submit a nice application (i have later realised that the success of this journey is in no way by my power, it's been Grace)

Prior to applying to Conestoga, I had gotten admission into Carleton uni for meng prog in civil Engr. I also had $25k loan from MPOWER financing for my offer at Carleton.

I was about preparing my visa doc when I stumbled on some posts on Nairaland emphasizing on coop opportunities. Since my offer at Carleton did not provide coop, I opted for Conestoga. This choice was also at the expense of losing the loan from MPOWER as they do not offer loan for pgd/pgc programs.

As a self sponsor, Frankrobbn advised that it's best to show pof of the total duration of study as against showing pof for first year only. Tuition is approximately 18kcad per year (36kcad for 2 years) + 20kcad for living expense for 2 years. Frankrobbn insisted that I show a pof greater than 56kcad for total duration of study.

This seemed impossible but God in his infinite mercy provided assistance as well as the wisdom to solve the challenge. Myself and Frankrobbn brainstormed on how best to tell a convincing story to the visa officer as follows;

I theoretically expanded my dads computer engineering firm to include a construction arm. Since this will not reflect in the cac document, I had to do some serious explanation in my sop. I deliberately did this to help strengthen my home tie further claiming that id return to fully manage the biz (just as most of us applicants would always say grin). I then compelled/convinced/forced/pressured/begged my dad to send me some money monthly (salary simulation) for 6 months (from Jan to June). Not that he was financially buoyant enough, God did His thing.

Employment

2. Construction sales engineer at a multinational company (full time) - Mbcc ltd

education
BTech in civil engineering 2016.
_Note that I was almost about to complete a masters in civil engineering at Uni of Ibadan, but I did not disclose this in my application._

Special appreciation
First and foremost to God and my parents. My dad used to pray only on crossover night. The intensity of his prayers increased when I applied for my visa. My mum, she loves prayers more than her husband.

Frankrobbn of fandrglobal.com. Really, I can't stress how good he is, especially when it comes to telling stories and brainstorming ideas to convince the visa officer. Yes I paid for his service, I was more than willing to - considering the high number of success rates and testimonies shared all around by several applicants who have employed his service.

Other particular gurus on NL such as Ralphudoh, Chocs, Justmellow and Lekiboboe(now canadaboboe grin). These gurus helped in answering my tonnes of questions.

My bosses at work were so understanding and helpful. It's a peaceful feeling to have non toxic employers.

My friends Aminat (now at Cornell uni, New York), Mujib (uni of Toronto), Mubarak (uni of Alberta). These 3 idiotic geniuses helped me a lot on my SOP with corrections & proofreading's.

Lessons learnt in this journey
1. A cheerful giver will never lack. Showing good deeds has it's way of coming back to bless the giver in multiple folds.
2. Be hungry for knowledge, do a lot of research (homework). Whatever is worth doing at all is worth doing well.
3. Having and developing a cycle of good friends have a powerful impact on ones intellect, financial and physical health.
4. God factor can never be overemphasized.

To all PPR hopefuls, God will grant you all your heart desires. To all approved applicants, may we all excel globally.
