Before the latest directives, the apex bank had also directed the banks to restrict funding of fuel importation to avoid the reoccurrence of the 2009 financial crisis, which nearly collapsed some banks due to the inability of oil marketing companies to repay loans.
Oil marketers and other independent importers of petroleum products that placed order for new cargoes when crude oil price hit a peak of $145 per barrel in July 2008 recorded huge losses when the price abruptly dropped to about $82 per barrel, leading largely to the financial crisis of 2009. The quote above was what led to the collapse of banks as it relates to credit, also was the deregulation of Diesel and finally Militancy for companies in the Mid stream sector.
How come Sanusi ignored the tool of perception as enshrined by Soludo knowing it wasnt the fault of the banks

PapaBrowne: If Afghanistan and Somalia are threatening to deport Nigerians is it not because Nigerians just like you and everyone of us have chosen to exhibit bad characters in different countries across the world. Aren't there also Nigerians that are been begged to come over to developed countries worldwide and help contribute to their development.
Lets talk about the policy. Its an excellent policy as it would help attract investment to the country. Nigerian embassies as regards visas were treating foreigners maybe worse that the foreign embassies in Nigeria treat Nigerians. It is very bad for business. A smooth visa policy is an essential too for investment. Read up UAE or Singapore and go figure!
If you've flown to Nigeria recently, do you see the amount of foreigners from various countries on the planes? Before it used to be just Indians, Chinese and Lebanese, but these days you meet every nationality including all the way Australians. I always wonder: these people no dey fear Boko Haram sef??
Nigeria's economy is attractive so we much support our attractiveness with friendly visa regimes to help improve the investment climate. it is not always the way it sounds, most of those foreigners come to take up jobs meant for Nigerians. Once they Get that Visa, nobody cares what they do, how they remain here.
the easiest way to guarantee jobs for Nigerians is denying visa to low cadre staffs of various organizations. If the Chinese working as sales rep at happy bite were denied visas, guess a Nigerian should be working a shift. |

Question is, where in the Bible does it say that only "men of God" are expected to be an epitome of modesty and humility and be a shining light to others? All Christians owe that duty to their faith and their God. How many Christians practice the same message they are preaching here? But I don't expect you to understand my point. how many christians feed from their flock? how many Christians cast demons in the name of God? how many Christians stand before a congregation to say they are ordained by God? how many xtians claim to be called by God? we have obligations as the flock of God while The men of God have the obligation of leading us to God. is it by flying jets outta poor donations? i dont think so. |

fm7070: dabossman: Though I do not support the use of private jets by pastors and politicians, I dare to say that most of us are just as guilty as the folks we are pointing fingers at. Only in varying proportions.
You pay 2 million naira and above as rent p.a in Lekki/Ajah when you can pay 800k in Gbagada or 400k in Egbeda. That's an extra 1.2 million you could have used to help the needy.
You buy an SUV or saloon car at 3 million naira and above when you can get a clean tokunbo at about 1million. That's 2million naira you could have used to grade that your bad and bumpy street instead of waiting for government. Your community would be grateful.
You pay 11k monthly for DSTV Premium so you can watch premiership football when there is DSTV Family at 3k and Access at 1.5k. That extra 8-10k can feed a poor family for a month.
You wear designer clothes when there are cheaper options, go to the movies every week, spend 20k monthly flying okada when you can take a bus and you think its not a luxury? Ask those who can't afford any of these.
We can all afford to give more to charitable causes than the 1k, 5k, 10k or 100k we give now if we scale down on some of these "luxuries", but we all love a little more comfort. Aren't we all just as "guilty?"
--------------------------------------
most people on this forum kicked against this ideology. But it is fact of life. Whole truth and nothing but the truth. Nigeria and world at large will never be better unless we revisit this ideology above those who live for themselves will dieeee by themselves. Politician, pastors, civil servants are always thinking about themselves. The child of that poor neighbour of yours you refused to assist with school fees will end up being the armed robber that will scatter the skul of your children with bullets The children of those poor church members you separated from your children will end up being the ones used by terrorist to scatter the congregation u lack common sense. Men of God work and live in the foot steps of Jesus and should live up to that. they are not entitled to luxuries cos Jesus did not. comparing pastors with the congregation makes you a daft. the people that live in lekki work for their money not some heavenly candidates paying to make it quicker than their con pastors. if you work for your money, spend it the way you like, charity or not just like bill gates. if you are a man of God, who feed from the magnanimity of the flock God hopes you Will lead to heaven, you are not entitled to luxuries. it is an insane breach of God's trust. my salary is different from a donation or tithe. that is the money of God not for pastor's luxuries. if pastor justifies using it to his aggradizement, i can as well conclude its no longer God's money but pastors. who Will pay tithe knowing it enriches the pastor |

pro01: The European missionaries of yore would be turning in their graves because of the circus that Christianity (which they introduced to Africa) has become. These pioneers sacrificed their careers, personal comforts, and stable family lives in Europe to come to mosquito-infested Africa to preach the gospel and win new converts - even if it meant dying in the process. This they accomplished at great costs, many losing their lives to disease and hardship, others using the last penny of their personal savings to build little village schools and advance the cause - when they could easily have remained in their comfort zones in Europe. This is the sort of sacrifice that defines genuine Christianity .
These modern day bling-bling prosperity junkies masquerading as men of God are a great disservice to the wonderful legacies left behind by the early missionaries. What a shame. |

beamed: The birth of a megacity does not come cheaply but I tell you Lagos govt has put the cart before the horse. Now you mention street by street transport among other things. The issues has to do with the highways where the roads are riddled with drum holes and consequently traffic is slowed. For a person living on the island, you not be privileged to see the chaos at various mainland bus stops. From Agbado to ijaiye to agege to ikeja all the way to oshodi. Ikorodu road, apapa road, okokomaiko, ajngbadi are places you'll see people sweat it out. The ban would have make sense if the roads are ok. Worse still when the community gathers to do something about the roads, somebody just shows up from alausa to frustrate the community effort claimimg that it's government responsibility. Yet no action from them. It seems to me that power of positive reasoning is lacking in our leaders. Ban them if you must but do the right things first. please don't mind that non living thing called Billy the fool, it happened like that in PH but in less than 2months, Taxis appeared from no where and flooded the city, as if the miracle was incomplete, tri cycle came to the rescue, lately nobody misses okada anymore. just be patient those Okada people have money to rent cabs. The Rivers state Govt even went further to ask them to paint the cabs state colors before plying the roads, instituted some road taxes too, yet it didn't stop the proliferation.
The truth is that tri-cycle will replace those Okada with time. |

OYINBOGOJU: Adesina Kawonise, the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of the Nigerian Compass newspaper, was attacked last night by gunmen on the Akure-Ilesha highway, receiving gunshot wounds.
A statement signed by Biodun Oduwole, on behalf of the Board of Directors of Western Publishing Company Limited, the publishers of the newspaper, said that a police security detail that was traveling with him was also hurt.
Kawonise was returning from Awka where he had gone to present a Keynote Address at the 17th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Anthropological and Sociological Association and where he was presented with a Distinguished Sociologist Award by the association. “He was in a convoy of two vehicles when the vehicle in which he was travelling was suddenly ambushed at the Ikeji-Arakeji junction shortly after Akure at about 8.30pm,” the statement said.
“Sporadic gunfire from men hidden by the roadside was unleashed on the two vehicles and Mr Kawonise and the policeman seated with the driver in front of the vehicle were hit by bullets. They were immediately rushed to a private hospital from where the policeman was transferred to the Wesley Guild Hospital Ilesha for surgery.”
Mr Kawonise was this morning transferred to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, where he was admitted and had surgery. “We do not know the motive of the attackers of Mr Kawonise but he recently received threats to his person from some unknown Internet messengers,” the statement said.
Expressing gratitude to God that no lives were lost in the attack, the Board of Directors assured all Nigerians that the Nigerian Compass, under the management leadership of Mr Kawonise, “will not fight shy of its social responsibility and it's crusading pact with the Nigerian people.” http://saharareporters.com/news-page/editor-chief-nigerian-compass-shot you do not know the motive of the attackers, yet you stup!!dly gave up their recuperating locations. |
