Bidam: Now my question is: what is the difference between vocation, calling, occupation and profession? A mature christian response is needed here pls.
calling is a fraud. jesus himself didnt recognize the so called "calling"

our pastors see themselves as spiritually superior because they have a "calling". jesus in his infinite wisdom handed over christianity to normal people without "calling"

all the apostles are normal people, starting from peter the liar to judas to thomas.

if jesus could hand over to normal people, who is that man on the pulpit to say he has a "calling"?

why didnt jesus look for people with calling?

is calling anywhere in the bible? we are all called, the pastor is a mere mortal like anyone else, stop giving them your money, rather USe ur money to support just causes.

He and his commissioner are contructing Mono rail with tax payers money, so much money has been spent on that project. He should come to term that it is failed project. This money's spent rikelessly should be channeled to expanssion of roads in port harcourt and sourrending comminities. No Electicity and no drinking water. And money is spent rikelessly. Lagos once the capital of Nigeria is well connected with roads. Opening up of Port harcourt greater city is a good idea but no road and no light in the old port harcourt city.

Romance › Re: Getting Married In 2 Months - Why Does He Distrust Me So Much? by jpphilips(m): 9:53am On Oct 31, 2012
Hi guys, I need fresh eyes to look at this situation, as it is bugging me constantly.

I've been engaged to this guy for about 20 months, and we got engaged after 2-3 months of dating. Even though I was a virgin at 25 when we met, I have had previous boyfriends. He grilled me several times in the beginning, wanting to know what specifically I had "done" in the past with them, even going as far as to asking if I was gay.

We live apart, and he has always been obsessed with the idea of me "cheating". When we started, if he phoned me and I was unavailable for any reason, it meant that I was being suspicious even though I called him back asap. It doesn't help also that he is very cunning. On one occasion, I invited him to church with me, he pretended he wasn't coming, dropped me off at the station, and immediately followed me on the train back to church to see if I indeed was going where I said I was. When confronted, he said it was because I gave him a reason to believe that I was cheating by not always answering my phone immediately - he thought I was meeting up with friends after service. (Even if I do, I still don't see why this should be a problem!). One public holiday, I had lots of work to do at home so I told him I was going to work when I wasn't (I didn't want to be disturbed). He called my work, and as I wasn't there, he concluded I was cheating. He confronted me about it, and I admitted that I lied about going to work, but only because I needed to get some work done at home. He was terribly upset about this, even shouting at me down the phone. It was only later that I realised that he got so emotional because he had assumed that I was cheating, not because he was betrayed by me lying about where I was. He admits that he has had several partners before me, and also that he had never been 100% faithful to any one of them. Yet, I do not try to grill him in the same way. I do not assume that he is cheating when anything happens, if he doesn't answer his phone immediately. The funny thing about this is that the day he told me that he had never been faithful to anyone before (even in a 5 year relationship that he was in - he said the lady cheated, so he cheated for revenge), he immediately followed up saying that things might get bloody if I ever cheated on him. His first reaction if anything happens between us is "Who have you told?". He says that he doesn't want us bringing 'outsiders' into our marriage issues, which is a valid approach, but I am beginning to doubt the intention behind this.

Recently, I found out that he has (without my knowledge), not just hacked into my Twitter account but also set up his phone to receive an alert whenever anyone mentions me or sends me a message on Twitter. This is not just a hack which lets you log into my Twitter. This is an alert like a text message. This means that wherever he is, whatever he is doing, he wants to know what who contacts me on Twitter. He does have a Twitter account but isn't interested in anything I have to say and so he isn't following me. Rather he is interested in the private messages I get, and what messages people send me. By the way, I have absolutely nothing whatsoever to hide there. I do have male "followers", but these are people who I learn from. I'm quite interested in business and technology and I think it's a great learning resource for other people's experiences. So I don't mind that he can see all my conversations. What I mind about is that 2 months to our wedding, this man is convinced enough that I might be flirting with other men, that he is still trying to catch me out through various methods. This worries me, because why would anyone go through wedding planning and preparations with someone they don't trust? I'm not a flirt, I don't have many friends yet I'm being treated like a criminal. I almost regret saving up myself all these years only to end up being monitored and investigated for infidelity for no just cause. This breaks my heart because I don't treat him the same way, and I don't know what I have done to deserve this kind of treatment.

The ironic thing is that early this year, I met a guy on the plane, who can be desribed as a ladies man. This man stared at me for the entire duration of the 6-hour flight, at the end of which he stopped me to chat me up. I initially thought he recognised me from somewhere, but when it seemed he just wanted to chat a girl up, I told him I was married and walked away. I narrated this to my fiance, and by pure coincidence 3 months later, it turned out the same guy in question was dating my fiance's cousin, and had narrated the incident to her as well, confirming my story in public! If anyone ever needed reassurance, then I would have thought that would be it - but my fiance says that his problem is that I shouldn't even have had a conversation with a stranger in the first place! So basically he's not convinced that I wouldn't sleep with any odd guy that catches my fancy if he had the right qualities. When you love someone, have given them yourself in a way that you'll never give anyone, and want to spend the rest of your life with them, this is very hard to hear. I understand that he has been cheated on before, and it was difficult for him, being a very very caring guy, but it still doesn't justify punishing me for other peoples sins.

What do you make of this, guys? Are his fears justified? Is this how Nigerian relationships usually are, or is my case a special case? I'm really really pissed off about this Twitter issue, especially as there is no need for it.
lol, funny enough it took you nearly 3 decades to realize that your sexual orientation aka virginity count for nothing in the real world.

how i wished you skipped the bold parts in your post, it shows you have a mindset that you are a trophy that should be treated better than anyone else, implying you don't deserve his paranoia.
Nonsense!!!!!

mekussays: The ban on okada in the whole of lagos will be the best thing that will happen in lagos. Okada riders lack training and are too aggressive and in a rush thus turning lagos in a menace city.

Keke napep if probably organized better would be a far much better way of transportation in lagos because it will actually save lives(pls read the report on how many people have died and being hospitalized due to okada- https://www.nairaland.com/1085094/okada-accidents-killed-107-two)

Once keke napep has been accepted by Lagosians, the price will come down and a definite price structure can be in place.
tricycle is as much nuisance as bikes, what's the diff anyways? an extra tire.
they both run in the middle of the road, scratch vehicles, ignore traffic rules.

Nairaland General › Re: Lagos: Keke Napep Charges Are High by jpphilips(m): 6:46pm On Oct 29, 2012
abysirius: Owning Keke in lagos of today is now a good business as the recent ban on Okada within Lagos metropolis is now an avenue for keke owners to exploit passengers around Lagos.

Imagine keke charging 70 naira for a distance that they would have gracefully collected 30 naira for.

As if the frustration lagosians get from them isn't enough, they will only stop u half way and expect u to trek ur way to ur final destination. Obviously, stopping okada from operating at a time when 3rd mainland is closed is one problem too many for lagosians.

Considering the terrain here, Okada has comparative advantage that keke doesn't have even if more keke are to be ordered to reduce the resultant effect of okada ban. Okada can manoeuvre traffic better, it's even cheaper, keke cannot enter streets and coners the way okada will do etc. Too many reasons while Okada's ban is not healthy.

Though the ban on the long run could be worth all these wahala now like some pple argue, the effect now is hellish and I know a lot of persons here will share the same view. May be the die is cast as we cannot reverse the situation with okada and the ban. So how then do we cope with this excessive demand and hike in the prices of these keke napep men? Since govt has succeeded in monopolising poor man mode of transport all to the fa4 of keke owners (and to average man pikin detriment) how then do we cope with keke in lagos, how do we forge ahead?
yea it takes a little getting used to. it was like that in ph some years back.
tricycle is scary you can get a cheap car or use Taxi.

Romance › Re: What Is Behind Late Marriages For Ladies ? by jpphilips(m): 9:25am On Oct 27, 2012
Tedpgrass: Dear Sir,
What's ur response to the women who stayed to support these men in their "growth" spurt but promptly replaced with younger models upon (their) "arrival".

Examples abound for us to see in society.

From recollections, those men aren't brought to book but are rather "hailed".
Advice to any female: spend time n effort empowering yourself legitimately!!!!

A guy who can't be comfortable with your grace (wealth or influence), doesn't have the grace to be with you.!!!!

.
if you have experienced a family where the man lost his job and the woman becomes the bread winner, you wont ask this question.

it matters less to the woman that the so called buisness may have been set up by the man when he was still liquid.

the woman treat the man with scorn and disdain. this is marriage. imagine what transpires in a relationship where the man is upcomming while the woman pretends to be standing by him. lemme tell you how it plays out.

women that find themselves dating up comming men have the highest tendencies to cheat and they have never lived short of that expectation.

while in those relationships, they taste the waters a lot, they treat the guy with scorn because they want the guy to see it as a favor they are dating,
while the emmasculated male leaves his fate pending when his condition improves.

the thing is that most girls like decieving themselves, how can you be treating your boyfriend unfairly with so much disdain, opressing him with your series of chairmen because he is struggling, yet u want him to stick with you when he makes it?

that is a wild ambition. The biggest irony is that the gals think the guy is daft not to knw about their illicit affairs but wot can the guy do?

he swallows it waiting for the right time to strike.

an upcomming man may not be able to provide his woman with her insatiable needs, at the same time she explores other options with made men for financial gains. this is a fact in the Nigerian society.

taharqa: I read yr previous loooong comment and i smh. The whole discuss rest on 2 points: 1st, does the current situatn in northern Mali where a disparant group of extremist who are coming from every part of d Muslim world and trying to set up that region as an international terroist base pose a grave threat to Nigeria and d West and Sahel African region, enuf that Nigeria needs to take every sensible means possible to dislodge them? 2nd, is Nigeria going this alone or is she collaborating with other affectd countries and institutns in an international effort to dislodge these ppl from Mali? My answer to d 1st questn is yes- it constituents one of d gravest threats to our national security and those of our neighbours, to d extent of even bn an Existential threat. On d 2nd questn, Nigeria is working with ECOWAS, AU, EU and UN in an international effort to dislodge these terroists; i think d EU and UN is to provide sm equipments and logistics( including a lot of the finances needed) while ECOWAS countries( led by Nigeria of course) are expectd to mostly provide the ground troops. Is there sm possible downsides to our intervening? Absolutely. Wud it hv bn better that this situatn isnt happening? Yes. But it is already upon us, and the consequences of not doing anything or not doing enuf out of fear is better imagine. I completely agree with you though that we ought to be careful and SMART bout this whole thing cos this is quite diff from other interventns we had previously undertaken......your talk on strongest military in Africa, and SA selling military wares to d UN etc was a disgression IMO and does not concern this particular mission...pray that these terroists agree to leave Mali as negotiatns continue OR pray that our soldiers smarshe them as quickly and effectively as possible. We hv no other choice in d mata. Good day.
your question one was answered previously when i made this statement to someone above

I have already acknowledged the threat so why repeating it, i proffered a simple solution that gives the president both diplomatic and political soft landing.
i don't see the relevance over flogging the issue when everybody acknowledges the threat.

on your second question, everyone seems to be in agreement but the intl community operate by interest. read this part of my post again and understand that the said cohesion will turn out to be a curse when the time comes.

there is absolutely no need for your second question if you understood this;

I understand if UN wants to work in harmony with existing regional apparatchiks but the president should not see it as a "messiah invite" because the consequences far outweighs the benefits.

All the UN wants to achieve is a reduction in the cost of war/intervention nothing more, it will be politically suicidal for trainee presido to flatter himself with the illusion of an "African messiah" in playing the head man's role.

The American intervention in Somalia is not unconnected to the fact that the Somalian pirates posed a direct economic threat to the United states. they hijack oil tankers destined for europe and America, thereby cutting down on the supply which was devastating for crude prices at the time.

a 6.8% artificial increase in oil price is enough for the united states to go to war.
can that be said of Nigeria as regards its National security threat?
the bold part clearly explains whether or not UN is working alone and why, the second paragraph in green highlights intervention as it affects interests.

the SA example was to bring him back to reality when he made this statement;

which other major militarily competent countries is affected enough to lead the operation in Africa apart from Nigeria? Do u know the first two mission commanders of UNMISUD (UN Mission in Sudan)? Maj. Gen. Okonkwo (NA) and Lt Gen. Martin Luther Agwai (NA). by your line, one would expect Gen. Ali Mohammed of Egyptian Army or Gen Julius Muleke of Ethopian Army, isnt it?
and i had more coming for him before he sheathe his sword.

it will help us more if we read our comments properly to avoid dancing in circles

Thanks for your knowledged posts, it's richness gives me the encouragement to reply with due respect.

Honestly, your facts aren't new to me, but i only disagree wt your political strategy of evasive stand. It is only matter of opinion and almost all scholars of NIIA and NIPSS disagree with one another over such, how much less u and I who may not b experts on such matters (U may be, but I am not). I am aware of the pity state of Nigeria's economy, and also the burden of the military adventure we took in Liberia and S/Leone. Nigeria is in embarrassing shambles, but fortunately, I am a Nigerian. My patriotism is not in meaningless jingoism, neither is it on self-hating all-year-round criticism, but in acknowledging simple truths for and against our state in candid and objective manner.

If i should take on ur points one by one, it will only avoidably lead to further arguments whc u and I hav little time and no strenght for, and not that either of us may bring up anything "new" as fact though. Most important aspect is dt we have agreed that it's unavoidable expedient that Nigeria leads this mission.

I enjoyed d discussion. I wish u PEACE sir!
I submit humbly that Nigeria should thread with caution because we lack the financial muscle to carry on with such expedition at this period.

very well to you
