You make sense die. I have been trying, it hasn't been easy though, i just keep slipping back to English, and when I was their age, I couldn't speak English o, only tatata, lol. Will keep at it Iyamarun: What you do is speak Yoruba to them all the time. My kids don't interact too as its from home to school, school to house and be inside fence all day. All my kids speak Yoruba including my 3 year old and what I do is speak to them in Yoruba concerning anything at all. Even when I pick them up from school the only English I speak Is "get into the car" I start with the 'Bawo ni school?, oya e jekalo, bag e da? "
So if it's to get a glass of water. When u say "bami bu omi wa" and they look confused just say "get me water" next time they know what it means. Don't make the sentences long too. Keep it short and Simple and with time they get to express well.
No matter where we are I speak my Yoruba to the kids. I don't care who's looking. Cos sometimes I get stares and Na me sabi wetin I want. They already speak good English so why not Yoruba?
I even think they will learn faster as they are kids, so just try simple conversations with them and request for things in Yoruba, ask questions in Yoruba. Don't give up. They will get it.
I've also heard of kids who speak 3 languages well (never seen one though) but I'm hoping my kids will learn and know French too. So na French Yoruba English all join. |

Its been a while I did ICAN o, i hope my brain still dey there, lols. Thanks for sharing, i have been thinking long and hard about this and almost concluded to start CPA afresh in Canada. Assuming I started writing ACCA but don't conclude before moving to Canada, what happens? Do you suppose I could write in Canada too? Kindly share how you intend to study for the exams, tutoring centered, online? I need to decide soon. Thanks Chicjennie: I'm also in your shoes. I decided to opt for ACCA option instead due to the following:
1. While Ontario accepts CIMA in the MRA for internationally trained accountants into CPA, Alberta does not. 2. I'm unsure about what CPA means by "completion of the *full* CIMA programme to be eligible. 3. ACCA's cut-off is 50% compared to CIMA that is 60%. 4. The ACCA option is cost effective as it is about 50% cheaper than the CIMA option. 5. The requirements to obtain the CPA designation with ACCA is less complex and more straightforward. 6. ACCA is more recognised worldwide than CIMA.
The only Con is that one gets to write 4 papers to obtain the ACCA qualification unlike CIMA that requires candidates to write only 1 paper. But trust me.. that one paper would be loaded!
If you have any objection to the above, please let me know.
Cheers.. |

lols at their fingers are frozen, that may be so. I was quite discouraged by that too. Hardly any info on Manitoba on any forum i search. Thank you for sharing, please keep doing this, I really need the motivation. It would be nice to see pictures too, please don't call me Oliver Twist o , would just really love to hear and see more. PS, loving the Yoruba speaking fun fact Tojued: There's a lot of info on Calgary on this thread, but I'm sure someone will still step forward to provide you feedback.
People in Manitoba hardly give any feedback. There's very little info on Winnipeg/Manitoba online (not only on this thread). My theory is that their fingers are frozen or they are too busy shoveling snow. They usually share info before arriving, then they share landing gist. After that they disappear.
Or when they leave Manitoba for one reason or the other they become active again.
You could do a search of the thread. But start from Page 113, GS put some links on life in Calgary and Winnipeg. |

Hello, thanks for sharing. How do you mean Winnipeg is waking up to its city status? Do elaborate. Thanks coolhayor: @tojued @drcynthia
I posted majority of this about 2 months ago, I am just adding a little more;
I live in Winnipeg and it is a decent city. I have been here for a few months so my info may not be absolute.
There are jobs everywhere in Canada and including Manitoba. A search on indeed, workopolis or LinkedIn will give u a good view once u input d city and career area of choice. Although I will say for every 1 job in Manitoba and all the other provinces u have 9-10 in Ontario, 5-6 in Alberta & Quebec, 4-5 in BC. I am saying this from my job search experience but I stand to b corrected. Manitoba and Nova Scotia have more jobs than New Brunswick and slightly more than Saskatchewan.
Life is relatively cheap in Winnipeg compared to most Canadian cities especially housing except for Montreal and Halifax. Government also gives a bit of support to families and if u want u also have food banks and other free stuffs in some places across the city.
There a lot of Nigerians in Manitoba. In my opinion 70-80% of them are into healthcare support jobs, abt 7-10% of them are into customer service jobs, security or other survival jobs, the remaining percentage u find in white collar I believe. Based on this most Nigerians u meet immediately preach the majority jobs to u. I do not blame any1, to each his/her own. To get the healthcare jobs u only need some basic certificates u can get upon payment, no exams.
For the white collar jobs, all u need is do ur search well, highlight ur soft skills and experience, be ready to weather d storms if necessary, finally let God have His way.
1 reason why a lot of people also take some of this survival jobs here in my opinion is discrimination. I may be wrong but when u work in the survival jobs the culture is more immigrant friendly as u have lots of immigrants working with u and it is easier to blend in compared to a much more Canadian environment which is more common in white collars where u have to prove urself over & over ,u are also more careful & uptight (U can imagine this by thinking of working with only white people for 100days without seeing more than 2-3 blacks come your way during work & hearing no other language than English).
With determination, focus and sharpening ur skills u will get white collar and in no time get used to the Canadian culture if u so desire and willing to pay the price.
Winnipeg is quite hot in the summer and extremely cold in Winter, the farther north u go the more extreme the temperature especially the cold.
Housing range is $850-1300 for 1-2 bedroom apt. Monthly Bus pass is $100 for unlimited bus ride across Winnipeg. Cost of grocery for a family of 4 is between $250 -400. Car insurance $105- 180 depending on the car Gas for car $50-100 depending on ur commute Parking-$50 Phone -$50 Internet- $60 Daycare- $400- 500/ month
My family doctor is a nice Nigerian who has been here for a while.
As @headstone mentioned a lot of Naijas live around Pembina/ University of Manitoba so also around St Mary/St Vital/ Waverly/Downtown. U have rarely hear of crime in all these areas I mentioned except for downtown.
Churches are a way of connecting back to your Nigerian roots in Winnipeg if u so wish, also notes that it comes with the Nigerian way of doing things.
Winnipeg is also gradually waking up to its city status in my opinion as well |

Salaam Sis, have you registered for the pre arrival programs yet? You should. One of them has a food certification program, you write series of tests and you get a certificate at the end. Its good for bakers and people who want to work in the food industry. Its called the Pre-Arrival Food Safety Management Training Program by FPHRC. I'm sure you could also start baking from home first, understand your environment and decide what next. My sister is in Milton, Ontario, she wears the hijab and she has never mentioned any harassments. She says there are quite a number of sisters wearing it wherever she goes. There's an Islamic community, Oyinbo or Nigerian asalatus dey quote author=voguemum post=70717334] Thanks @Salford1 for taking your time to answer my questions. There's one more question I forgot to include, is it possible for a PR to start a baking business from home and what are the procedures? Will the tax rate on such business be high and as such should the idea be scrapped?[/quote] |

We miss your pictures Uncle Salford salford1: Congrats on your landing. You mentioned your final destination being Manitoba.
It is usually best to get a phone line in your final province or town/city of final destination. Cost, bills, phone number(i.e Province and area code), t&c, tax e.t.c are different across provinces even within the same network. Also some network are also not available in some towns or provinces hence you would pay roaming charges.
Examples My phone plan with the phone cost $95 per month in Alberta. Exact same plan and phone cost $65 in Saskatchewan.
Freedom/wind mobile which is a favourite among new immigrants would only work in big cities, once you move closer to the edge of the city, it would go into roaming which is expensive to maintain.
If you move to winnipeg and own an ontario line, some people without Canada wide plan won't call you because their network would charge for calling non-local line. |

@honey86 , thanks for sharing your experiences in Winnipeg. Heading to Winnipeg towards the end of the year by God's grace. I am a Chartered accountant, ICAN although never really practiced. I have experience in Treasury in a funds management coy, private equity and for the last couple of years I started running my business selling babies and kids products. I would like to go back to accounting in Canada, what are the things you think I can do before we land that can make my job prospects better. I sent you an email? Any tips on how to survive, raising kids (we have 4) , schools , best place to live, places to avoid etc, looking forward to hearing back ma'am my email is embibell@gmail.com honey86: I started my career in HR, but when I got to Canada I realised there is more opportunity in Accounting. So after I did my research I registered at a community college here in Winnipeg for a Diploma in Business Administration with a major in Accounting. By the grace of God i only have 4 months to complete it. Then i continue with my CPA Prep courses.
I'm writing this epistle because I have something I want to share for people who are interested in accounting. Seneca College Toronto have a one-year graduate certificate that covers all the CPA Prep requirements, whereas after my 2 years course I will still have to write 6 Prep courses. In essence, after one year you can move to PEP. Here is the link to the course: http://www.senecacollege.ca/programs/fulltime/PRA.html
They also have a professional accountancy course that covers the first stage of the PEP; Core 1 and 2 and Elective 1 and 2, so you can start from capstone. http://www.senecacollege.ca/programs/fulltime/ACY.html.
I hope I have been able to help someone. |

Hi, i think you should return the money before you print your bank statement. For your Manitoba application, just follow all the instructions required for MPNP. Its different from the EE requirements. DEEAJA: Hello house, Happy New to you all! Pls i have few questions and i will need your advice.
1) At the point of applying for Manitoba PNP, the minimum fund required for a family of 5 is $18,000CAD and thus i stated this. But when i entered the EE pool i already stated $27,000CAD as POF as this is within the range of what is required for a family of 5. I just got LAA (Letter of Advice to Apply)from Manitoba, should i still provide evidence for 18,000 ( which is the minimum fund required for MPNP)or 27,000 (which i stated on my EE profile)?
2) When applying, i had fund in my account but i withdrew huge sum of the fund built to meet a need. Now that i have been given LAA (submit full application). Should i get the huge amount back into my account now before i print my bank statement. Hope i wont be penalised for this? Please advise me on how best to bring the fund into my account Thanks. |

Thanks for such detailed information, just to add, Express Entry PNP processing time is 6 months, while paper based PNP processing time is 17 months. I don't know why the difference. stealth02: There appears to be a dearth of information surrounding PNPs and just as @codew0rks mentioned previous attempts at creating a PNP thread was shut down. Notwithstanding some members on this thread got their PPRs through provincial programs. Here's a link to some useful information about PNPs culled from Part 1 thread
https://www.nairaland.com/2624318/canadian-express-entry-federal-skilled/144#47208212
I felt I should give an overview and summary application costs for PNPs that DON'T require a job offer. However most of them have target occupation lists but generally in the NOC 0, A or B categories similar to the Federal requirement
- SK $300 (Saskatchewan has an In-Demand Occupation list) - NB $250 (New Brunswick is currently targeting occupations in IT AND applicants must show connections to NB by attending an information session or studied in NB) - PE $300 (Prince Edward Island has no specific target occupation list) - MB $500 (Manitoba Skilled Workers Overseas have no specific target occupation list BUT applicants must show social ties - have family, friend or studied in Manitoba or attended an information session) - ON $1500 (Ontario EE Human Capital Priority Stream has no target occupation list but applicant must have CRS of 400 or more to be invited) -NS No application fees (Nova Scotia Demand EE Stream- Category 2 has a target occupation list)
Also be aware that some of the various programs are selective about certain ECA assessments that they accept. In addition to sending your ECA to IRCC you will also be required to inform your assessing body to send a copy of your assessment directly to the PNP program once you receive their ITA/NOI otherwise this may delay your application for provincial nomination
- SK/PE/MB/ON/NS accept all IRCC designated ECAs (CES,ICAS,WES,IQAS,ICES,MCC,PEBC) - NB accepts only CES, ICAS, WES, MCC and PEBC
The current processing time for PNPs on the CIC website is stated as 6 months(same as FSW). However there's no hard and fast rule for how long it takes to receive a provincial nomination once you submit your Expression of Interest - obviously this would vary from one province to another.
Note that the various programs have different PoF requirements some even lower than CIC's but applicants would ultimately be required to show funds that comply with the Federal scheme when submitting to CIC for their PPRs.
Generally, PNPs have a residency requirement that the applicant intends to live and work in that particular province. However it's still being argued that the 2 years residency is not mandatory. Take NB for example which requires applicants to sign form NBNP006 'Declaration of Commitment to New Brunswick' but doesn't clearly specify how long you are required to live in NB after showing yourself to the NBNP program officer within 30 days of your arrival in Canada.
Section 6(2) of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms states that a Canadian Permanent Resident can move anywhere within the country.
Section 6(2) Every citizen of Canada and every person who has the status of a permanent resident of Canada has the right: a) to move to and take up residence in any province; and b) to pursue the gaining of a livelihood in any province.
Hopefully more information would become available in coming posts to help intending applicants successfully navigate the PNP process as in the case of FSW.
Best wishes |

[ Hello jumdah20, @mamacajah, I don't think MPNP peeps many like that, but what do i know. Hope this helps someone For you to get Manitoba nomination, you have to have ties in Manitoba. Either family ties sister, brother, parents, cousins or friends, the points you get for having family is higher than if you only have friends. If you have family in other province(s), your score reduces by a 100. You would have to proof your ties of kinship by showing birth certificates of yourself and your sponsor or assuming you're cousins, then you would have to show birth certificates or declaration of age for both your parents (NPC one), plus family pictures You express your interest in the province my filling an EOI (expression of interest ) on their website. Just like express entry, they draw out of the pool at intervals, if you meet the cut off of a draw, you'll be asked to apply, kinda like getting ITA, you fill the plenty forms, submit language results, ECA, fees 500 cad (didn't pay during my time) ,bank sttm showing proof of funds for you or spouse, and complete short essays on why you chose Manitoba. You submit, your sponsor is sent forms which he has to fill letting Manitoba know he would help you settle and the wait starts. They had backlogs before, which they promised to clear with the fees being collected, not sure if the processing time is shorter now, mine was 11 months. For many months, status was just application submitted, later changed to pending for maybe 3 months, sponsor was interviewed, they had concerns that i have family in Alberta and may not want to stay in Manitoba, he tried to convince them. i was interviewed too, same concerns, i told them i would stay, nomination was a few days later. We were asked to submit paper application, there's a straight forward guide and checklist to follow strictly. Now we wait again All the best Show quoted text .quote author=mamacajah post=61758150]@Jumdah20, @sammyengr, please assist to outline the steps for MPNP here so as not to derail the other thread. @farefare,
Perhaps your friend got PNP nomination and they are supposed to submit paper based application to CIC.
CIC receives the paper application, then you get AOR after which your application can be linked to the CIC website to follow the same flow as those on EE.
The paper based application after nomination is quite different from EE, you're not required to do medicals, submit POF docs, References from work or ECA.
They would send documents for medicals at a later date, and may(not often) also request for additional documentation later.

Go to the CIC website and read up on the different Canadian provinces and their provincial programs. Many of them have active PNPs with various criteria. Some common criteria include job offers, on demand occupation, meeting a required CRS score, family ties. Your precious dried panmo Tamm: I doubt that professional qualifications are equivalent of BSc degrees any where in the world (they are mostly classified as Associate degrees). University degrees (academic) are usually different from professional qualifications, so I would understand WES' decision. I guess this is why ACCA has a MOU with Oxford Brookes University, where you can write a final project to get a top-up BSc degree. I'm not exactly sure how this works because I'm not in the management sciences, but I remember a colleague did this a few years ago. |
