bebe2: yes, actually she came with her husband and 2 kids, i think both did master.
when the program finished, they started to put in all sorts of application to remain in UK, which was refused.
but they didnt leave, the woman started to babysit from house to house.
she went to baby sit over night, came home and found out that her husband and 2kids have been arrested and taken to a deportation camp.
she eventually left sha, after a few months. She hasn't done herself any good. Breaking the immigration rules and at the same time expected to be given a stay? |

maternal: Well said. I know this thread is old but I feel it wouldn't be fair if I didn't tell my real life story and help my fellow Nigerians. To begin with Canada is the best country to come to if you want to school, stay afterwards, and get a respectable job. I've met people who have ran away from the UK and America, coming to Canada because that's their best option of getting legal residency and staying. Back to my story. I went to naija for 2 months a few years back. My cousin wanted to come abroad, school then live. I told him Canada was the best option period. He said he doesn't care where he goes, he'll hustle and get legal papers that he's a "naija boy". I said ok oo, you better just come to Canada and especially don't go to the UK because it's a trap. One day he holla me and said he dey UK. I just laughed and said u fukked up, you'll see in due time. After he completed his masters, he had no job for almost a year. He landed a job selling fast food at football (soccer) games. After a few months of that he landed a good job at some financial firm. I told him congrats because I thought the UK's system was similar to Canada's. That's after school if you land a professional job you can apply for permanent residency (PR) after 2 years, get it, then citizenship in a few years after that. In 5 years you could be a full fledge Canadian citizen. He said that's not the case, because he has to constantly be re-applying for the work visa, and they have to make sure no UK or EU citizen is willing to do the job before they give him the visa. In short there's no path to citizenship for him and his work visa can not be renewed at anytime. He just doesn't know where his future lies in the country, with so many question marks. He's now looking at how he can come to Canada. lol
In Canada I have a friend who took the same program as my cousin but finished at the undergrad level. He got a work visa after school, got a job as a bank teller, filed for his PR and got it. He has now moved up with the bank but in a few years he'll be a Canadian citizen. Yet my cousin who took the same program and finished at the masters level is still there with an ordinary work visa with no path to citizenship. I have so many more stories I could tell here. Why people go to the UK is beyond me. Other than it being difficult to get citizenship, you have to deal with high taxes, small houses, small cars/roads and a high cost of living. No thanks. Your cousin hasn't told you the truth yet. If he got a good job with the bank then all he needs is only one visa renewer to get ILR. I guess he was sacked by the bank or they refused to extend his contract. |

IrryJones: Hi guys...justwise, lexusg430, girlfio and all other good folks who contribute and share their wealth of experiences on this forum.
It won't be good if I didn't feedback to acknowledge your valuable advise
I asked some questions here around late October 2014 with regards to spousal visa application process and I'm happy to report back that my spouse has been granted her spousal visa to UK.
I will give a brief timeline about the whole process below:
Nov 26 2014 - Spouse submitted her application and was interviewed at Teleperformance office in V.I. Lagos; Dec 3 2014 - I, as the sponsor sent off supporting documetations to Sheffield; Dec 5 2014 - Spouse received an acknowledgement email from UK Visas Sheffield about receiving the documentations; Jan 6 2015 - I got a phone call from UK Visas Sheffield to attend an interview on Jan 9, 2015; Jan 9 2015 - Attended an interview at Battleship Building, London; Jan 19 2015 - Spouse received an email from UK Visas Sheffield that decision has been made; Jan 20 2015 - All the supporting documents were returned by post; Jan 22 2015 - Spouse received a message from Teleperformance to pick up passport; Jan 23 2015 - Passport was picked up with stamped visa dated Jan 14.
Spouse to relocate to UK soon, pending her resignation from her current employment .
Once again, I'm most grateful to you all. Congratulations!.... happy that it turns out fine for you. |

feedthenation: Hi Bolssos,
Just a quick observation, hope your spouse haven't got a dependent at the moment? The reason why I asked this is that, based on your financial resources, you and your spouse are over the financial threshold of £18,600. This is taking into account your spouse's basic pay and savings which should be around £19k. However, if there's one dependent, then the threshold amount to qualify for spousal visa will increase to £22k. Please double check if this is the reason for the refusal and yes you can always appeal. Goodluck. £18600 is the minimum yearly earning and not savings. His spouse doesn't earn that much. |

lalavita: @swtchicgurl - the Schengen/France system is NOT the same as the USA or UK. It does NOT reset each time you enter the country. @justwise sorry to disagree with you but I know this from experience. I had a similar visa, went for 1 week and came back. I had another 1 week trip on the same visa with a 30 day annotation and when I was at the airport in Nigeria, they requested for my ticket and checked my return date to ensure both trips did not exceed 30 days in total.
Please see this link - http://www.vfs-france.co.in/faq.html - I copied and pasted the relevant area below. Q:33 - How long can I stay on a short stay tourist or business visa? Your visa sticker will have the validity of the visa and the number of days that you can stay in Schengen countries. Say your visa is valid for a month with duration as 10 days. This means that within one month you can stay up to 10 days only.
Apparently the way "duration" is calculated changed in 2013 to what is described above. You can find more info here - http://ec.europa.eu/dgs/home-affairs/what-we-do/policies/borders-and-visas/border-crossing/ They also have a calculator you can use.
As I said before, your cousin can apply for an extension and you never know...she could get it. She should please not stay beyond the specified duration except she receives the extension. It is simply not worth the stress/ban etc... Swtchicgurl based on the info provided by lalavita I think extension will be difficult, and they have made changes to their duration calculations going by the link above. It will be interesting to know what their reply will be, update us when they get back to you. |

davidylan: not really. he will be asked why he did not use his visa and that is all. should have no problems. Had a 2 year visa in 2002 that i only used once. When i applied for a new visa in 2005, the officer asked why i had not really used the previous visa and i told him i didnt have much to do in the US and thus so no reason to travel just for the sake of traveling. in addition, i was in school at that time. The guy nodded and granted me the visa. Not really the same case, the op was given a visa to attend conference and for some reasons he was unable to attend and now wants to use the visa for holiday. |

maternal: use an agent to be on the safe side. To get a tourist visa from naija you usually need to know someone here (family member) who's a citizen and is filing on your behalf or a really big boy. They won't just give an ordinary person there a visa like that. What do you think an agent will do for him that will make any difference if he is not qualified or have family member in Canada? |

maestro03: There have been times in the past that my son would be on long term break and myself and his mom would be unable to take time off work at that time. And because of the clause on his visa he can't fly with anyone else. However, if his grandmoms passport number is included she would be able to take him. So my question is is it possible to have 3 passport numbers on his visa? Thanks Pretty clear now...i get it. Ok... in that case you can make 3 applications with a note specifically attached to that of grandmum explaining what her role will be....if she is given a visa then each time she will be traveling with your son all you need to do is give her letter of consent for POE...that will correspond with the info they have in the system already about her visa. |

Was jst thinking since the maturity date is in 2 day's time (its been on a 35 day tenor for the past 1 year), I can jst give my bank d instruction not to roll it over and hence move it into my salary account. And then attach a statement of the fixed deposit to prove the source of fund. What do you think? A letter from your bank indicating that will do. |

maestro03: Hello members of the house. Kudos to you all for all the accurate info shared on this forum. My question is very simple: on a dependant's uk visa, can you have more than 2 passport numbers on it? Eg dad mom and grandmom? Such that the grandmom can travel with the child when the parents can't make it. I have even gone as far as asking an immigration officer at Heathrow, he claimed he hasn't seen one but he doesn't see why it's impossible. So guys in the house, your vast knowledge is required to assist me. Thank you. I don't understand that, you mean if the mother can't make it? Who is the student here? |

MrHardOn : Justwise. She is not the only convicted criminal in uk with a child. And there r loads of them been given.stay as well...despite been criminal. And been criminal doesn't rule out stay...it all depends on the time spent in prison...wouldn't go into that now. But the rules states...in.the best interest of the child. No where is it stated...that the parents must be legal to warrant not needing a visa to stay. It states..child born in.uk.....not child born to legal parents. The website below has all sorts of overstayers and parents with conviction who still get stay from.the same aurhority. Guess she was not lucky. www.immigrationboards.comThat is merely a sentimental statement, convicted criminal could be given a stay for variety of reasons..the wife or husband may be British, he/her may come from war ravished country and could not be sent back. Her case is not any of the above, she an illegal immigrant, came from a relatively peaceful country. She was told in 2007 that she got no right to live in the UK, she was jailed for using fake document to work, her child was not in the picture when she committed all these crimes. For the fact that some people get a stay after living here illegally does not mean that every illegal immigrant will. |

MrHardOn: ttmacoy. She is not the only illegal with kids in UK. The child is not illegal in UK. D child been born in.uk and haven't travelled outside uk does not need a visa to stay in uk. He will only need visa if he leaves uk and is returning. There are people with worse immigration history than hers...but they have been given stay outside the rules....even.at present. Some do.hide their kids for 7 yrs to apply under 7 yrs concession rule or till the child is 10 yrs. And the law states application should be considered in.the best interest of the child. Which in.this case was not followed. Consult with your immigration solicitor. Can you support that statement with any official source? |
