Let me correct you here...the ship is not work, so yes i will abandon it for the sake of myself and my families, The Capitan of the ship is sailing in a wrong direction and majority of crew members don't see anything wrong with it. |

flokii: The lack of foresight from citizens up to the leaders is one reason.. another is the tactical brain drain going on where UK, US, Canada and even Arab Countries offer our Nigerian doctors jobs with attractive pay just to move over to their place and be of service to foreign nations.
It's a statement of fact that the most educated and successful non-native group in the USA today are Nigerians, not even Black Americans but Nigerian migrants. That says a lot. Lack of foresight that they don't know that Nigeria is getting better day by day? That their salaries are better than what is obtainable outside Nigeria? My younger brother had an accident yesterday and the driver that hit him from behind drove off, him and his wife were helpless at the middle of expressway, luckily a police officer came and took them to a general hospital in Abuja but guess what? There were no doctor on duty to attend to him. Such will not happen in any developed country, to start with..the driver will be picked up in no time and his insurance company will pay for my younger brother's car and injuries. He will be taken to the hospital by an ambulance and hospitals have doctors on duty 247 |

Olril18: If they are in Nigeria would they even need to overwork themselves? middle class Nigerians do not need extra-jobs and they also have dependents at home too who they have to help here too as well...so it’s not only those who live in U.K. that’s helps people. Or could it be the fact that they overwork themselves because of the bills and all other essentials? I say that knowing most Nigerians in U.K. were not poor people back home, poor people as we all know can not afford to travel abroad..and they didn’t have to overwork themselves when they were back here. And sorry if I’m being cynical, most people in U.K. are also reputed for being stingy, which calls in to question how much Nigerians in U.K. really overwork themselves because they have people back home they want to help.... Some couple of things I would have love to add are already added in my last quote. I think you should just be more Neutral and Balanced in this often tiring U.K./Nigeria discussions...no matter how provoked you are,it should not be all about condemnation of everything in Nigeria after all a large percent of Nigerians will never even own a passport. And that applies to the other side as well who always mock those in the U.K. Nigerians in Nigeria over worked and underpaid, some work for months without pay, teachers go on strike for months without pay, i mean the list is endless. Workers strike in the UK for more money and better working condition, workers in the UK will get paid even when they are striking. Comparing Nigeria to developed world is just a silly joke. Its so embarrassing to read from some Nigerians in nairaland saying stuff like...people abroad work to pay bills and taxes bla bla bla, Nigerians abroad pay bill they use on daily bases while Nigerian in Nigeria pay bills and taxes they hardly use, you pay for electricity you hardly use, you pay taxes but roads are in a terrible state, no security, no good functioning govt hospital, you pay the police to arrest a suspect, pay them to file case against the suspect and pay them to keep suspect in detention. Just look at the recently concluded general election...polling stations taken over by thugs, people get beaten up, ballot boxes taken away while police watch. South Africa got independent from apartheid white-rulers in 1994 but today SA is far better than Nigeria, Nigerians are ready to die in SA rather than running home. What is there to celebrate or defend about Nigeria? 30-40% unemployment rate? Kidnapping? Extreme corruption? Lack of basic infrastructures? I mean you can't even withdraw your own money from cash machines or carry out online transactions for months. And some of you have the gut to compare Nigeria to any half decent country? |

flokii: That is not true.. there are standard hospitals in Nigeria now with state-of-the-art equipment to diagnose and treat major health issues.
Stop misleading people with the "fantastic" health system abroad.. You must have social insurance and proper up-to-date documents to use their health facilities i n the US. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed this when mostly black people died from lack of proper health care. How many people died in Nigeria that you so much condemn compared to your USA??
if not for corrupt leaders, Whites would be travelling to Africa especially Nigeria for healh care and not what we have now.. Afterall the best doctors in the USA are Nigerians trained right here in Nigerian universities like OAU, UI, UNILAG among others. A Yoruba doctor in USA trained at OAU performed operation on a White baby still at 7 months and returned the baby to the mother's womb who later had successful delivery after 9 months. That was the first of its kind to ever happen.
I'm sure your type won't ever accept that there are poor White people simply because of your low self esteem. The Dangote you mentioned is richer than some States in US and Canada yet he chose to stay in his home country Nigeria and home continent Africa.. That is part of attributes of successful people; Self-love. So let me ask you this...If you truly believed that the best doctors in USA are Nigerian trained and that Nigeria is better than USA, UK etc...why are those doctors not working and making a living in Nigeria? |

Olril18: Well. I’m in Osogbo. Average of 20 hours electricity. So not bad. Your points stands though...Nigeria can never be better than UK. However I have also noticed your posts about Nigeria are usually pessimistic and full of condemnation. Uk isn’t perfect as well and in some things...Nigeria is honestly better. Heard of black people slumping and dying in factories due to work related stress. And an African nurse just died recently (making four in one month) too sleeping while driving after a night shift.... Uk isn’t heaven and have its own issues as well... Do you blame the govt if you decided to over worked yourself? Standard working hours is 38 a day, people on hourly pay in some companies can only work 60hrs a week which includes overtime. Nigerians here specially in health care sector or security over worked themselves partly because of the need to make more money and help people back home. Nobody forces you to work more hours, its your personal decision. |

You are celebrating mediocracy, in 2023 Nigerians are still managing few hours of power supply, there are villages in Nigeria with electricity, no water supply, no road, no clinic, no postal services, no train station, these are basic human needs. You dig your own borehole and manage it yourself (let's not talk about cost of drilling one). While some are able to "make it" and live fine, most find it difficult to survive and end up in shelter homes, low cost areas or hostels. She never was a dual citizen. She only had one nationality. Her father might have been from Bangladesh but she never had that passport . Even the country issued a statement saying The clear position of the government of Bangladesh is British citizen Shamima was never a Bangladeshi citizen,"
Do how can British government then impose and say she from there. Are they the ones to tell another country that its their citizen. She is a Bangladesh because her parents are, she doesn't need to hold the passport to be know as one. Many Nigerians born here by Nigerians parents are Nigerians by default, Bangladesh govt denied her because obviously nobody wants a terrorist. If your argument has any merit why do you think she hasn't won court battle after court battle about this for yrs? |

You can't have one rule for white British and another rule for other..... but now the government has done it and is getting away with it which will set a terrible foundation that there are two types of British people You are still making this comment years after it was debunked? Was "Jihadi Jack", Letts who was stripped of his British citizenship in 2019 by the Home Office not from white British family? He held dual citizenship Canada and British still he was stripped of his British citizenship for the same crime Shamima Begum committed. So what is your point exactly? |

Strata1716: Not to be offensive but I don’t really understand why people pick Canada over the uk, Canada weather is shit, the time difference to family and friends back home is crazy, the tax rate for earnings is not crazy different from the uk, still the same long wait time for medical procedures, exchange rate to the pounds is very poor and traveling from Canada to other countries for vacation is more expensive and stressful.
Asides fast track to citizenship I don’t see why Nigerians want to move from uk to Canada, I can understand US but Canada confuses me. What i'm struggling to get my head around is why people will waste so much money going to a country they don't like, before coming to the UK i had an opportunity to travel to US but that is one country i wouldn't want to live in no matter what.
