The skilled worker visa policy, is actually a very good recruitment system ....... But trust the devil's in Nigerian's, they would attempt to exploit angel's in heaven, for over exploited ticket passes, to shake the hand's of Jesus........

We always think we're smart and our love for ill gotten money, knows no bounds...... We would exploit the disabled, to help them cross the road......... 😁🤣

Why are America citizens, Dutch citizens, Finnish citizens, not caught in this greedy £10,000 COS trap.......... Because our hopeless politicians, that are meant to serve, build and provide........... Are simply like us all....... Self centered, greedy and have all their grubby hands in the cookie jar.......... 🤣😝
LOUD IT!!!!!!

You know we Nigerians have mastered the act of blame shifting and refused to take responsible for our dubious activities.

With all the information on this thread about how care companies are not giving their workers shift and you decide to come and take your chances and not bring enough buffer then it is your fault. Expect no sympathies from jw.
You really have to wonder why some people here are giving excuses for this. Why are we afraid to say things as its?

Brother the streets are rough ooo.(Ticket so expensive these days, everything has gone up and exchange rate is over 900. )
Even for some the ticket self was raised by a village so you have people coming with literally nothing. Which ideally is ok if employers were paying immediately you resume work on day 1

Anyone who comes with buffer is coming from a privilege ....... but sometimes others won't understand. As they say

half the world knows not how the other half lives
Its not a privilege, its common sense, no matter how hard street is you do not travel without proper planning, street was harder during covid but people still travel and pay for all sorts of covid tests.

I agree 100% with @Solumtoya that this response is 'Privileged Opinion'. It is possible there is some sense in what Justwise was saying, but the way it was put across is just not wise (my opinion).

Granted, Justwise has done some fantastic work on nairaland but sometines his responses (like this one) is'nt fair. I think Justwise conflated the financial requirements for STUDENTS (Tier-4) with that of workers (Tier-2).

As someone who has worked (as admin) in a firm that issues CoS, I know for a fact that we have the choice of either selecting that we will make maintenance funds available to the worker we are sponsoring, or we could tick NO. In the latter scenario, the worker is responsible for keeping their PoF in a bank for 28 days to show that they have money. There is a reason why the maintenance PoF for WORK visa is different from STUDENT visa. This is because for WORK visa, the worker is expected to be paid (IN FULL) from date of commencement of 'Work' (I put work in " " here becasue onboarding/induction/training is considered as Work.

It makes sense for a student arriving to have some 'buffer' of more than a month (well, that would already have been submitted in PoF anyway). But for a worker, 1 month is enough, as the worker is expected to receive their first salary not more than 1 month of arrival... This is common sense.

References:
https://www.gov.uk/health-care-worker-visa/how-much-it-costs

The first screenshot is part of the CoS application for a worker where the sponsoring company is agreeing that maintenance funds will be available for the worker. In this screenshot, we ticked YES. It means the worker is not expected to show any PoF.
If we ticked NO, then the conditions in the second screenshot must be met by the worker.
I don't know why some of you bothered to type all these long story, you do not travel to another country to live and work with just one month rent. Its a silly gamble which is likely to backfire as this case has proved

I really don't give toilet brush about how people decide to read and interpret my post, we can't run away from reality.

I totally agree with you, Justwise guy is very quick to judge and I recalled how he judged me 2 years ago, and this got me sad but I cried to God that answers prayers by fire and today, God has changed our story in the most tremendous way! God is sooooooooo real! I’m still shocked at how God has helped us and has been sooooooo Faithful!

In this UK journey, all you need is God and don’t forget God once He has settled you.

God I’m grateful and I’ll come back here by God’s Grace to tell you how God performed mighty miracles in our lives.

Absolutely. He's been here for 5 weeks and is worried he's running out soon. That's fair "just-in-case".

See this scenario: Someone gets a job of £23k. He spends about N3m on Visa. N1m on travel. Keeps extra N3m for "just-in-case" after getting a contract that he would start working few days after arrival. Now we are insinuating he should have brought in an extra N5m?

I think the guy tried biko.
Thar is not enough for just-in-case as the reality has proved.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by justwise(mod): 12:38pm On May 20, 2023
Solumtoya:
Your privileged opinion.

1month rent plus deposit and 6 weeks living expenses would probably be about £3k. That's fair for someone coming to start work few days after arrival. A student would defintely need much more.

There's a reason why the Home Office doesn't require so much proof of funds for someone coming in with a Tier-2 visa. They're coming to work not to spend several months worth of their savings. It's totally wrong and anyone who didn't plan along the lines of that mess is not the one at fault here.

Of course, it would have been better if he came in with like £10k in addition to the £10k of Visa and travel expenses (for a job with Annual salary of about £23k).
What has this got to do with being privileged? Do you need to be privileged to know that you need to plan well when traveling to foreign country? Yes traveling with just one month rent is a crime.

When you have no accommodation waiting for and your company is not paying for your expense then coming with anything less than 3months rent and expense is a crime.

Someone is asking if he came with only 1-month rent?

Coming with only money for temporary accommodation, transport, rent deposit, 1 month rent and 1 month feeding is not a crime.

He was told he will start working after 10 days and he's yet to start after 1 whole month, that should be the crime! Just unfortunate.
That someone is justwise

If its a crime to come with one month rent? Yes its a travel planning crime.

You can't travel to any country with just one month rent even with promise of job and shifts.

Do that only when you have to ability to see the future.

Good day everyone,

Please I need assistance

I got to West Bromwich, Birmingham with a Skilled worker visa on sponsorship, been here since April 20th because according to my letter of employment I’m to resume 1st of May but till date all we’ve done is documentation and asked to wait for training which they’ve just only attended to 3 people out of 15. Please I need assistance in getting another source of fund because my rent is almost due and I’ve been applying for part time jobs and not been successful. Advices and assistance is really needed. Thanks
You mean you came to the UK with only one month rent money?

Call him to get some money, family, friends etc .. while you keep applying for job here.

Speak to your landlord/agent etc to see if you are allowed to defer on your rent.

Ask your employer to help you with some money for the rent while they take it off your pay when you start working.

Why should a Nigerian graduate whose degree was taught in English have to write the IELTS to prove he can speak English? UK Visas are given to Chinese students whose English is nowhere near the proficiency of Nigerian graduates. What is the use of being in the Commonwealth if our English is not considered good enough for the United Kingdom? Then it means the wealth is not common.

On the 20th of June, 2022, Sheyi Shobayo announced that he has 2 remaining slots, out of 7 for anyone interested in getting a Canadian work permit (visa) which will cost 2.350.000 (Two million, three hundred and fifty thousand naira). He gave a time frame of 90 days. According to him, if visa was not issued after 90 days, the initial deposit of 450,000 Naira would be returned.

Upon receipt of the mail, I contacted him and he asked me to pay so they can start working as the documents are on ground. I transferred the sum of 450,000 naira from my GTBANK account to his KUDA MFBANK as requested by him.

22nd June, 2022, he asked for several details to enable him file the application. I was under the impression that he had secured the work contract and ready to file for visa; I obliged him all the details he requested.

5th of July, 2022, he demanded for visa/biometrics fees. Equivalent of $240 was sent to him in naira.

July 26th, 2022, a friend my mine whose name is Blessing Nneka Obasai, said she would be interested in the Canadian work permit offer. I contacted Sheyi Shobayo, he said he could take one more person. Same day, Blessing Nneka Obasi transferred the sum of 450,000 into his account (Wema Bank:Sposh Travels and Tours: 7810732125)

12th of August, 2022, Sheyi Shobayo sent a message asking where I would like to go for my biometrics? Lagos, I said.

14th of September, Sheyi Shobayo sent another messge via whatsapp, saying that my job would be ready, same week. I reminded him that over 1 month ago, he said my biometrics letter was going to be out. But there's no update on that. On this same date, he sent a biometrics letter to Miss. Nneka Obasi, asking her to go for her biometrics in Ghana. She was told that she couldn't do it in Ghana, that she has to go back to Lagos for her biometrics.

Nneka Obasi had to travel down to Lagos, the following week so she could do her biometrics. She spent over 2 weeks in Lagos but Sheyi Shobayo couldn't come up with another biometrics letter as promised. Instead, he denied being aware she was in Lagos. Even when I sent him a message, informing him that she was in Lagos for her biometrics.

After the 14th of September, I asked Sheyi Shobayo for update on my application? He couldn't give me a tangible response. On the 23rd, 29th, and 30th September, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 11th of October, I sent him series of messages, asking when I'll get my biometrics letter? Most of them, he ignored.

On the 13th of October, 2022, at about 2.18pm, Sheyi Shobayo sent me a biometrics letter which he received on the 15th of September. Now, the biometrics letter was going to expire the next day. It was valid for 30 days. He said I should not go to VFS the next day because there won't be space for me. That he has to apply for another biometrics letter. I asked why he waited till after 27 days before sending the letter to me? He said he forgot.

5 weeks went by, and there was no biometrics letter. Nneka Obasi asked Sheyi Shobayo to send back her money. It was over 3 months, already and no sign of progress. At a point, she stopped chatting with him because she complained that Sheyi Shobayo is a rude person and lacks manners. So, I was the person talking to Sheyi on our behalf.

On the 16th of November, I asked Sheyi Shobayo to return all monies sent to him. As there's no proof that we are making progress. He insisted that the process was on and needed more time. On the 29th of November, he sent me a mail and asked me to get in touch with Nneka. That she should come back to Lagos for her biometrics. When I studied the correspondence, I realized that Sheyi Shobayo applied for a visit visa for Nneka Obasi. When I asked why the visa application changed from work permit to tourist visa? He said it's visitor to work permit. I told him that it is NOT possible to convert Canadian visit visa to work permit. He claimed that it was his job.

When I questioned him further, he told me that he was processing a working holiday visa. I asked him to send me a link from Canadian website because I know that Nigeria doesn't participate in the IEC visa. He took offense and has been ignoring my messages, ever since

Being aware of the trick he wanted to play, we decided that he must return the money we gave him. He has failed to process a Canadian work permit as agreed, within the 90 days time frame. This is the 6th month, I have not gone for biometrics. The biometrics letter he sent to me was scrutinized and I found out that he also applied for a visit visa for me. That was not our agreement. His story for non performance is unending and it has become obvious that Sheyi Shobayo is in breach of our agreement. Yet, he is still holding on to our hard earned funds with impunity.

Right now, he says he's out of the country. To him, there's nothing I can do.

Part 2 of my story will feature next week.[

Reason I'm asking is because we live in the North-West area and would like to go and return by train on same day to avoid cost of lodging in BnB and for my son not to miss school for 2 days.

Thank you.

No company will let you rake in such overtime. You only work 36 hours , that is 3 days a week. They will get someone else to do the remaining days if they need to.
Did you even realize that if you go beyond that 36 hours, you pay would be time and a half. Meaning you would be paid $150/ hour instead of $100 for the 24 hours over your time
That is not true, some companies will allow you to work 60hrs a week max. 40hrs normal shift and 20hrs overtime
