Godaloneisable: How long bro? This is the 7th month. Anyways, thanks My brother you will be fine, don't let this drag you down. If you are able to carry on supporting your family with little help from her go ahead, When you stopped asking her to support and carry on doing your best she will step in to help. I pay all the bills in my household, my wife runs the kitchen and do most heavylifting shopping for foodstuff while i pay every other bills including her mobile contract. Sometimes i come home to notice that she has bought stuff for the house or kids i appreciate that but i will not complain if she did not. The reason why i choose to run my home that way is because...before i got married i was paying all those bills without any support and now we married i will keep doing what i have been doing. Lastly... make an effort to get a sponsorship...you will be fine. |

I asked the amount but i never got response when my insistence was much she said circa 15million which is not true cos its not care work that you'd paid for COS and the coy paid our tickets. I suggest you carry on paying those bills and rent and allow her to recovery from all the money she spent. At least you still have little left after paying bills. She did not bother you when repaying the loan so you need to repay her now. |

Peerielass: End terraced houses are usually valued higher than mid terraced properties though because of the absence of neighbours on the other side and also larger gardens. This could be the reason for the higher council tax band. The same garden size, though i understand that one can challenge it if your neighbour is willing to cooperate |

Peerielass: Ok, use the link above from Zahra29 to check what your council tax should be. Different properties will have different tax bands. Generally speaking the bigger the property, the higher the council tax. Not really, council tax bands can be so random that sometimes you question how they arrived at it. When I was living in a terrace house my house number is 9 and my council tax band was B while my neighbour in number 8 was on band A, the same house size. The excuse my landlady gave then was that my house is end-of-terrace. |

Zahra29: The government's view and policy has always been that international students are only here for a short time and then return home. It is the choice of the student to pay £15k to acquire a post graduate degree (undergrad students pay significantly more), which does not consequently mandate permanent settlement.
Obviously they are now realising that the intentions of postgrad students have changed, largely due to the increase in students from Asia and Africa who would rather remain in the UK than go home, which is why the govt is looking at ways to tighten the rules.
See below statement from Jenrick, immigration minister, made in the house of commons this week:
We have seen, historically, that the vast majority of students leave the country and go back to their home country to continue their careers and lives. It is possible that the system that has evolved since 2019 will see different trends. In 2020, only 7,400 non-EU students stayed on post study and those numbers may be dramatically higher in the years ahead. It may be that the mix of individuals, the countries they come from - if these individuals come to the UK to study and then spend a period of time here on the graduate route, and certainly if they bring dependants, that we will start to see a significant increase in the number of people staying here, making a life in the UK and not returning home, in which case policies of this kind will become more important.
Its all nonsense like i said before, let me make this clear just in case anybody misunderstood my stand on this.. I'm not against any govt controlling immigration and making sure that the system is not abused. That said... These politicians are worst than people smugglers, no shame, just about the money. These Nigerians who are on the news for all wrong reasons did not commit any crime, they followed law to the end. They paid for every resource they are using. Last year the UK govt allowed 163,500 Ukraines to move to the UK and provided accommodation and jobs for them all paid for by tax payers. In 2021 they allowed 21,387 people from Afghanistan to move here to settle all paid for by tax payer Ukraines and Afghans did not pay a penny into the system but Nigerians who paid their way here are being humanised . They should change the immigration law quietly without blaming Nigerians for their incompetence and greediness |

Zahra29: Exactly 💯
Undergraduates are not allowed dependents and they study for 3-4 years. They make up more than half of the overseas student population and pay tens of thousands of pounds over the duration of their course, so why is no one advocating for them to be able to bring in dependents if they wish to?I had some mature students (as they were called) on my degree course who had families, so it's not only postgrads that have families.
Students are still very welcome, all the govt is saying is that they do not have the resources to accommodate the hundreds of thousands of dependents that are now coming along. I get that but my question is..why did they allow them in in the first place? Govt knew the number of visas issued but they keep issuing more visas, no interview to know if these couple are genuine, if they actually have the money as claimed. Do you know that American embassy injected at least one VO here in travel section to help and educate Nigerians applying for all sorts of visas. That VO was here for years answering questions and still interview Nigerians at the embassy, many fake applicants from this section were caught and exposed partly because of info they were able to gather here. British embassy just focused on PBS with little or no check. |

The whole noise about immigration figures is just ridiculous.
Foreign students came here legally, they did not come in through the English channels or back of lorries, British embassies collected thousands of £££££, access their applications and stamped their passports with visa. They got into the UK, got a job and keep paying into the system. These foreign students paid for NHS even before using it.
The same British government that allowed them in is now crying about immigration figures.
Is this not stupid of the highest level?
No foreign student came in with wife and children hidden in hand luggage, the immigration allowed them in genuinely and now they are blaming them for increasing immigration figures.
Nonsense ! |

Zahra29: In addition, no more switching allowed and more scrutiny on maintenance funds:
The package will also remove the ability for international students to switch out of the student route and into work routes before their studies have been completed "to prevent misuse of the visa system", the government said.
As well as removing this right, there will also be a review of the maintenance requirement for students and dependents and a crackdown on "unscrupulous" education agents "who make use of inappropriate applications to sell immigration, not education".
Applications will be more closely examined as well, so best to avoid any breaches of the rules:
Improved and more targeted enforcement activity
That is the biggest prob, untoubable pof is the biggest prob. British embassy carry out little or check as a result people can just buy bank statement and use it to apply for visa sucessfully. |

maasoap: Imagine raising over 10 million naira just to go and do master that you don't even need in UK, all because you want to work in a store or restaurant! With 10 million naira in Nigeria, you just need to get your business idea right and work hard. You will be set for life! UK government just want to be smart by half. Let's see how the new plan turns out for them. They did it once, we knew that it didn't turn out well for them. They too are running parasitic economy reaping where they don't sow. Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, teachers are trained in Nigeria for years with highly subsidised tuition fees, UK would just dangle work visas in front of their eyes, off they go. Why not? |

Welcomme: This is the same thing I told a friend when I saw the news. British people don't go to school talk more of Postgraduate. They prefer to do apprenticeship and start making money. They don't stress themselves on schooling. Well, this might still work out but anything that will make them stop Post study permit, it will hit their economy real hard. So all the universities in the UK are full of foreigners? Honestly there are too many ignorant folks here |
Travel › Re: UK Set To Ban Nigerian Students, Others From Bringing Their Families Over by justwise(mod): 8:59pm On May 21, 2023 |
RecentHistory: The British educational system will collapse within 1 year if they try this. How many British citizens can afford to go to British Universities?
They tried this no post-study work permit rubbish in 2016 and by 2017, several UK tertiary institutions closed up because they didn't have students. By 2018, they rescinded the rubbish.
If they try this today 21st of May 2023, by 20th of May, 2024, University of Hull will close down. Guaranteed. You confidently lying to people here. PSW was not closed in 2016 and brought back in 2017. A lot of British citizens are doing degree/MSc and many of them study on student loan financed by the govt. If this policy is implemented no British university will close down |

Zahra29: What you call bullying might simply be straight talking that might help other people reading this forum who are planning to come to the UK via the same care visa. Perhaps reading this thread they might realise that many care agencies /homes are taking the proverbial and that having a visa sadly doesn't mean they will be given work/get paid. Many don't even realise that they are not allowed to take on unlimited additional work/hours. Information/knowledge and preparation is key( what's that saying, to be forewarned is to be forearmed) - someone reading this might be prompted to look for some "just-in-case" contingency funds or other back up plan, so don't despise the message because it sounded harsh - it might be the medicine to avoid death for someone. Pay zero attention to those shouting bullying, they just want to say something for the sake of it. If people make a deliberate decision to get worked up because i did not say what they want to hear then good luck to them. |

I don’t see the need to point at their so called mistake or even scold them so others would learn. Apart from jumping on one line of my post to write pages tell me a single advice you and the rest of bullying crew has offered.
