This French general agrees with me. Top French general says full victory in Africa not possible France will never secure total victory over Islamist insurgents in West Africa, its top general said after 13 soldiers died in a helicopter crash during a combat mission in Mali, France’s worst single loss of troops in 36 years. General Francois Lecointre said France’s military role in the Sahel region was “useful, good and necessary”, but it was hard to see the moment when the war would finally be won. The remarks could embolden opponents of President Emmanuel Macron, in particular the far-left, who demand France plans a way out of the conflict. “We will never achieve a definitive victory,” Lecointre, chief of staff of the armed forces, told France Inter radio. https://www.defenceweb.co.za/aerospace/military-helicopters/top-french-general-says-full-victory-in-africa-not-possible/amp/?__twitter_impression=true Cc: Keep2silent

keep2silent:Sir, your entire post is based off assumptions. You have not stated any fact to dispute the points in my post. Why would France deploy Leclerc tanks to combat insurgents in Mali? This point makes no sense. France has VBCI armed with 30mm cannon deployed in Mali France has ERC-90 Sagie armed with a 90mm gun deployed in Mali France has AMX-10 armed with a 105 cannon deployed in Mali. France has Tiger helicopter for attack and reconnaissance deployed in Mali France has Gazelle Helicopters armed with 50.cal hmg deployed in Mali France has Rafael fighter jets deployed France has Mirage 2000D deployed in Mali France has Reaper armed UCAV deployed in Mali France has Caesar 155 mm artillery deployed in Mali. Why do you think the Leclerc Tank would make any difference? You need to make comments based on facts, you're making posts on emotions. With all these France has been in Mali for 6 years |
Xbee007:But that's an air force plane, with a senior air force officer, the head of communications highlighting the growth of young air force pilots in the Nigerian Air Force. |

KingAzubuike:OK, we hear you. Cameroun is better, can we now rest. |

Xbee007:How? |
keep2silent:I completely disagree with you. France is a world power, and has one of the largest armies in NATO. With regards specifically to Mali, let us look at the situation on the ground. Military operations in Mali does not cover all of Mali. The insurgency in Mali is completely in the North of Mali. Mali is also a very rural country, with large open, uninhabited areas where military operations are carried out. French military assets in Africa include permanent military bases Air Force and Army bases in Niger, Drones and Mirage-2000D fighter jets fly from there. Another permanent military base in Chad, Rafael fighter jets and army men are based there. Another permanent military base in Ivory Coast, French Foreign legionaries are based there. A Forward operating base in Senegal, another Forward Operating base in Cameron. Access to military ports in Benin republic Then there are the 4,000 men based in Mali. So in actual fact, France has a larger military presence in west-africa, than Nigeria has in Nigeria. The highest amount of soldiers we have deployed in the Northeast is 20,000 soldiers. France has 4,000 with the help of Chadian soldiers, Belgium, UK, Finland, Sweden, and a MINUSMA force which also has Nigerian soldiers, Senegalese soldiers etc. So in actual fact, France receives more help than Nigeria, plus a well developed defence industry and modern equipment. Yet France has been fighting for 6 years in Mali. Let that sink in. I know our own is not good in Nigeria, but a well equipped force with plenty support and bases cannot defeat slippers wearing terrorists. So yes, Nigerian soldiers are trying. |

Ezugwu MRAP APC kinda reminds me of this MRAP APC from South-Africa.

GeneralFarouq:France has now spent 6 years fighting insurgency in Mali. They have 4,000 soldiers in that country. They are also supported by America, Belgium, UK, Finland, Sweden, Canada. Our Nigeria army is trying. Even though they used to fvck up sometimes too, but they have achieved a lot. Fighting insurgency is not easy. |
No offence to the South-Africans on here. Are South-African government officials dumb or what. South Africa blocks arms sales to Saudi and UAE in inspection row JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - South Africa is blocking arms sales to countries including Saudi Arabia and the UAE in an inspections dispute, endangering billions of dollars of business and thousands of jobs in its struggling defense sector, according to industry officials. The dispute centers on a clause in export documents that requires foreign customers to pledge not to transfer weapons to third parties and to allow South African officials to inspect their facilities to verify compliance, according to the four officials as well as letters obtained by Reuters. Officials at major South African defense groups Denel and Rheinmetall Denel Munition (RDM) said the dispute was holding up their exports, as did a third big defense company which asked not to be named. RDM said some of its exports to the Middle East had not been approved since March. https://mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSKBN1XW236?__twitter_impression=true |
Xbee007:I think that is why the Alpha jets can operate at night. |
This is the reason why NAF Alpha Jets conducted this night mission.

This is very significant news. The 3 Alphajet Mid-life extension programs with electronic upgrade on-going at Kainji. Most likely carriers of GBU-12 & GBU-58 Paveway bombs.

rka2:Is this spending from Ministry of Defence or Ministry of Transport? |
rka2:Sir, how many Lynx helicopters are they expecting? Oga Henry shared a photo of navy personnel in Airbus helicopter plant last year, is the navy not buying from Airbus again? Why is the navy buying from Italy and England and France all at the same time? |

In/dia’s DRDO Forced To Ditch LCA Navy Mk2 For Cleansheet Twin-Engine Jet Design A new twin-engine naval fighter design proposal is taking shape at India’s principal combat aircraft design house in Bengaluru to supply the In/dian Navy with a future fighter for its aircraft carriers. The proposed fighter, with officially stated plans for a first flight by 2026, isn’t a choice but a compulsion. And it effectively puts on hold the Mk.2 version of the single-engine naval Light Combat Aircraft (N-LCA). The proposal is a dramatic shift in plans by the DRDO-administered Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), which until as recently as February, had been fine-tuning design changes on the LCA Navy Mk.2. Plans on the new jet design were first revealed earlier this week on Delhi Defence Review here. But here’s the rub: the DRDO isn’t switching tracks willingly, but has rather been forced into pursuing a twin-engine design by the Indian Navy. After years of studies on the LCA Navy and the proposed LCA Navy Mk.2, the navy has made it clear it doesn’t want a single engine fighter. https://www.livefistdefence.com/2019/11/indias-drdo-to-ditch-lca-navy-mk2-for-cleansheet-twin-engine-jet-design.html |
