bebedlolo:I have now compared the apply charts for the two transmissions, and found that what you have lost is the 3rd gear. The technician does not have options than to make use of the existing shift solenoids in the 10pin. Do not bother him, as he cannot map 1-4 and skip 5 for you. 13pin has four shift solenoids while 10pin has three. Using the shift algorithm already in your ECM, they will do without the fourth solenoid (SL3) that 13pin has. The only way to make your ECM drive 10pin is to skip 3. With that, you should be experiencing delayed 2-3. I meant your car will get its groove back when you install the default 5 speed 13pin. Hope this helps. 1 Like |

bebedlolo:It will not damage your engine, but the engine would work harder with the 10pin. To better understand the details, we need to look at the apply chart for both transmissions to determine what was possibly compromised. As a matter of fact, it is even possible your 10pin has some issues already (not meant to spook you). If your 2-3 command from your TCM was was actually skipped, what I think you should be experiencing is delayed 1-2, and a sluggish '2' in the 10pin. The reverse happens on downshift. On the other hand if 5 was sacrificed, you would notice nothing, given a healthy 10pin. Do not lose sleep over this bro. Your car will get its grove back soon. I only wish there are standard Rebuilders around. |

bebedlolo:If you had plans of changing back to 13 pin (U250) soon, you should not have gone for 10 pin (U241). My reasons: 1. You lose money at trade in eventually. 2. You lose money paying mechanics for 'conversion' as they will tamper with your harness. 3. You lose money paying for labour and atf twice. 4. You harm your car - believe it or not, those guys don't leave cars the way they met them. How much did you buy the 10pin? Like GAZZUZZ said, what could get fried is the transmission itself. I don't know yet, how they drive a 4-gear transmission with a 5-gear chart without the car going into limp mode. You will also notice a reasonable drop in the car's fuel efficiency, as the 10pin is without an overdrive. We hope to get reliable rebuilders around soon. 1 Like |

Interesting thread. No doubt, manual trans are more durable than autos. No matter how you pamper your auto trans, it goes into coma one day. Many factors contribute to auto transmission failure. An auto transmission in Enugu will outlive one in Lagos. We are still helpless in Naija, when it comes to auto transmission repairs. |

OP, hope you find your ride. Personally, I prefer comprehensive insurance to tracker. Think of accidental damages, flood, fire, third party cover, etc. We remember the Honda Pilot that was destroyed by a fallen tree in a parking lot. The car was not stolen, but it would make no difference to the owner. |

bravolad:There is a defect in early U660E that the Camry v6 2007 on are fitted with. You may delay its manifestation considerably if you are not a power thirsty driver. You will remember this transmission was introduced in 2007, and in as much as Toyota did all they could to give owners a powerful engine-to-wheel connector, it came out with an unforeseen. I have learned to stay away from automobiles with pilot drive trains and technology, and this car falls well within this category. In my earlier post, I mentioned that a TCM flash corrects this, but in some instances, it does not  When a flash does not correct it, you will have to replace it (with another defective unit). There is a bearing in the unit that was not designed to spin, but immense torque tends to flex the transmission case and frees the bearing! The result is massive aluminium dust getting into valve body assembly, and we can imagine the effect.If your unit so malfunctions, it needs to be torn down, and cleaned up. It is a rugged transmission, but its case is a letdown. Shalom. |

A known issue with the early U660E transmission is cold flares (gear disengaging momentarily before re-engaging). This is caused by the TCM algorithm. A trick around it to drive in D3 in the morning until the engine is warm, as it prevents an upshift to gears 4 and higher. A TCM flash usually corrects this but in very few instances, it does not. 09 models are almost bullet proof. 1 Like |

sultaan:The Edge is fitted with a transmission developed by Ford and GM. Stay away from models prior to 2009, as they have defective transmissions - the clutch components break easily. If their parts are scarce, I may start selling them  But seriously, can't they be sourced from Ford Nigeria?? |

alextayo:Does you mechanic have the right scan tool? You need to scan before replacing the transmission. First, you would be able to establish if your car really needs a transmission replacement. Second, you wont lose TDC codes stored at that stage. Third, you may harm the replacement transmission if the potential problem is not resolved, depending on its severity. You should have towed it rather than driving all the way in the first gear. Have the car scanned. If there is an underlying electrical problem, you will change transmissions till thy kingdom come and still face same issue. GAZZUZ to your rescue! |

You can do that from Customs office or bank. (I have checked from the bank twice). |
