felixomor: Step outside into what? Which philosophy can replace the bible? Please tell me.
If u cant mention one better alternative to the words of Christ, then its a shame. So you admit you are stuck in a worldview? Then unstick your self and think out of Christianity. You do not have to adopt an alternate philosophy but consider Christianity with an eagle eye/perspective and get a full picture. Do not rely on frog perspectives. For example cultists and gang members are not particularly conscious of their ethical wrongness of their behaviour but if they did step out of the gang for just a moment and reflect on their behaviour as a third party/outsider would they would be able to fully acknowledge the depth and consequences of their actions/behaviour. |

Hebrews 4:2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. You Christians should step outside your world and bible and examine it. The idea that the bible is best guide to life can best be determined in comparism with other guides. I think a foundational belief in the bible is flawed. It is like Plato's allegory of the cave. People that have been stuck in a worldview/cave for so long that they will crudely doubt the authenticity of a real world |

The very foundation of Christianity is that God rewards his servants and adherents. The adherents are in it for the reward. There is no inner love or authentic love towards God. They trEat the religion as a transaction to which they expect real dividends. Now compare that mentality to Buddhism where the inner self is cultivated as its own end and own reward. If the inner self blossoms the outside world blossoms as well. |

MaxCoates: Wrong!
Leader and Founder of Enlightened Christian Gathering, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri yesterday got the whole patients and the entire working staff of Greytown hospital in KwaZulu-Natal astonished as he reportedly resurrected 12 dead people at the hospital.
According to an eye witness who spoke to us via phone, Prophet Bushiri arrived at the hospital morgue around 6:00 am and he started commanding the dead to rise and walk and they did!
“I saw this miracle with my two näked eyes. Prophet Bushiri commanded 12 people who were pronounced dead in the morning to come back to life and lo and behold all the twelve people confirmed dead by the doctors regained life’’ the eyewitness explained
Speaking to the Medical Officer in charge of Greytown hospital in KwaZulu-Natal, to get a confirmation that indeed these 12 people were dead he said “They were even preparing their bodies for the morgue and the man of God stormed the hospital to perform such a wonderful miracles’’
When our outfit contacted Prophet Bushiri, he disclosed that he had the direction from God to visit the hospital on that particular day to save lives that their time is not up.
“The lord spoke to me directly a day before this wonderful miracles that I should go to Greytown hospital and resurrect some people whose time are not up. So I did’’ Prophet Bushiri said. You mean to say their time was not up but yet they died? Was there a heavenly mistake or mixup? Which angel is responsible for that neglect of duty? Some stories are simply implausible and ridiculous. A finer story would have involved resurrecting the long dead from the cemetery. |

Tonason: You have done justice enough to the book. Her western up bringing has influenced her life. Over there divorce is the other of the day. Marriage is not regarded any any thing. Premarital Sex is encouraged. Gold diggers are seen as wise women. They don't have culture. In fact one of my friend then from England told boldly that she wants her father to make love to her, that even her mother is away of it. Can you imagine? Novels are mirrors they are critics of our culture and people. There is a layer of appearance while we associate with society. We express outwardly the societal moral values of marriage, chastity, hide our dirty habits etc. But beneath that layer of appearance is the darkness of our real selves and the enjoyment we derive from our vices be it premarital sex or a cigarette etc. A novel wouldn't do just justice if it binds itself to the superficial surface. It owes itself it's authenticity to dig deeper and fish out the ugly truths so it can serve as a valid mirror/critic. And I think Chimamanda did well. She in, an omniscient perspective, searched the conscience and inner thoughts of her characters to reveal their true selves to us. Kosi was extremely shallow. Despite Ife's shortcomings she at least shared more with Obin than Kosi did. And with that reality marriage betrays its own superficiality despite it's promise of love and happiness. 7 Likes 1 Share |

DeepSight: I am at a loss as to how this comment is of any relevance to my comments above given that a person (or personhood) can only be conceived of within existence or as something existent.
Indeed, there is nothing that can be conceived of without existence or as not being existent.
For this reason, your comment - and AIO's revert above - is meaningless.
Period. Including fictional characters developed by writers and poets? What they create are persons within even the legal meaning of personhood. The array of false Gods have elements of personhood and even divinity. The fact a person is conceived doesn't conclude the fact of his existence |

Christianity Etc › Re: God Does Not 'EXIST' by Kay17: 11:11pm On Oct 31, 2016 |
DeepSight: This is rather odd.
Is it really possible for a person to "not exist"?
When one says that "a person can either exist or not exist" - this suggests that you may have persons that exist and persons that do not exist.
Is this not a very self evidently false thought construction?
For is there any such thing as a "person" that does "not exist"?
It is a flat out contradiction in terms therefore to say that "a person can either exist or not exist" - thus suggesting two alternate possible types of persons: those that exist and those that do not exist!
Evidently therefore, the correct thing to say would be - "Persons exist" - or - "a person exists" - period.
@ OP: Does this build a thread of reasoning somewhere in what you are trying to say regarding the self existent nature of God?
PS - You rightly should not worry too much about the futilist AIO who starts nowhere and goes nowhere: as a matter of fact, he has propounded quite exactly what your OP says in the past, in simply different words. I doubt if amongst the properties of personhood is existence. Personhood is one idea while existence is another. They are not mutually exclusive |

Joshthefirst: They have nothing to do with the axioms of existence.
Evil and good are simply characters of action and thought. Conscious beings of free agency will have a potential for evil, which must be dealt with. Before we reach the level for free agency the potential for evil has to exist first. Without a potential there can be no evil. Now the axioms create the potential then the free agency activates it. |

UyiIredia: The so-called overwhelming evidence for evolution is based on poor reasoning. For example, I've explained that similarities across different species is used as evidence of shared ancestry. This an unjustified inference that cuts across the evidence from comparative anatomy, genomics and embryology which notes such similarities. The similarity between species or common with all life is a legitimate justification. |

I'm not going to fault your own theory on the origin of life forms because the evidence must have convinced you to come up with your theory as the best explanation. Christianity Etc › Re: God Does Not 'EXIST' by Kay17: 9:16pm On Oct 29, 2016 |
Joshthefirst: I am simply trying to pass across a point of God's supreme nature to you. God is transcendent. You would be foolish to apply ordinary 'nounish' matters to him.
Come clean and stop being annoying if you don't understand what I'm trying to pass across (I think you do shaa, I choose to have a high opinion of you in spite of contrary evidence).
When I say God does not 'exist'(note parenthesis. The parenthesis implies there's a deeper meaning to what I'm saying, logically.) I mean he did not come into being, like us or the universe. He is the reality of presence. Before such concepts of time or space, or beginning or end he IS. IS! For petes sake. He is the sum total of existence. And everything about reality is contained in him, by inference. This does away with the id.iotic problem of any such infinite regress(take note Lennycool).
By eternity, I mean infinite longevity. Before anything else (including a beginning or end) existed, God IS. ('IS' since there was no relative past present or future of his presence) If he transcends the term 'origin' itself, then he is not 'limited' by infinity. Infinity is 'contained' in him.
I have done my best explaining my words, such that even a child would understand and I probably won't go to this great length anymore. If God is the sum total of existence and a transcendental infinity, which are the axioms of your understanding of God, how is evil permissible? In pictorial terms, a glass of clean water like purity can be said to be unclean or impure. |

S, I only used VAT in Lagos state as an example of wat is obtainable in Nigeria while I also used the casinos and entertainment in Nevada because the dynamics re different bt the simple truth and the way it should be is having the component units paying a certain percentage to the central government,so don't try to be too clever by half by twisting facts or shifting the post in this argument. If casinos and entertainment centres were in Lagos, the taxes accruing in those places would be paid to Lagos State. Again the VAT example ought to show the departure by the Nigerian federal system from the United States federal system. It's a wonder why else you mentioned VAT. Nonetheless you haven't still proven the difference between the two countries practice of federalism. |

MONITZ: Hmmm,ok for a start, the city of Las Vegas is in Nevada which makes her money from majorly casinos and other forms of entertainments without any form of hindrance from the central government and at the end of it all there is a certain amount of tax the state pays to the central government which is used to run her affairs majorly those items on the exclusive lists like the Armed Forces, bla bla bla.
Come down to Lagos state of Nigeria that generates about 80% percent of the total VAT for Nigeria and at the end of the day wat she gets in return from the central government is a pittance. Similarly Lagos State gets the income tax of all persons in Lagos including land taxes and licences the state govt issues just as the casinos et al in Las Vegas. But the VAT in the US is split between the States and the Federal Govt. It's a part of the US tax code. So there is hardly a difference between US and Nigeria in regards to tax regime EDITED sorry the US dOEs not have VAT but the Congress can make law on it and take it all |

MONITZ: And wat is the contribution of the North eastern part of the country to the federal purse if I may ask since u ve decided to juxtapose N. E. D. C with N. D. D. C, let me give u some hints; VAT collection (almost zero for north east) while only Lagos generates a minimum of about 80% of the country's VAT ,also mineral resources ( zero for the North east as well, though there might be some prospects bt no exploitation that I know of yet),while the south southern part of the country contributes a huge chunk of the country's wealth. "From whom much is taken, much is given back" is a common saying .
If we were practising true federalism, many northern states won't be able to fend for themselves and would definitely go bankrupt just like the state of Illinois is experiencing presently.
The North is always tardy and inimical to the progress of the country as a whole, they re parasites ,to put it more succinctly and this is the major reason u guys don't want genuine federalism in Nigeria,bt we definitely can't continue like this forever, we will break this yoke thrust upon us by the British at the appropriate time.
The imbalance is just too glaringly glaring, to highlight this, take a look at the old Kano and Lagos states that were created at about the same time ,two more states ve since been carved out of the old Kano thus making it ve about 70 Local government areas,if it was still a single state while Lagos still has the the same initial 20 L. G. A , minus the L. C. D. A's that Tinubu stubbornly created and which drew the ire of O. B. J and which made him seize Lagos state's allocation until Yaradua came in and cleared the backlog, now where in the world will u see this kind of injustice if not Nigeria because at the end of the day wen allocations will be given, the old Kano will differently be getting higher allocations because it has more L. G. A's than Lagos and this was wat Tinubu tried to correct by creating more L. C. D. A's before Obasanjo became a dog in the manger. U guys think u own this country and everything therein, u re making a very big mistake as the tide will surely turn someday because we can't just continue like this.
True federalism is the only way out of this logjam so that every component can develop at her pace and pay taxes to the central government just like it should be done. Most ethnic jaundiced opinions such as this are always based on false foundations. If Monitz is asked about true federalism he would barely provide a reasonable answer. Because his brain eaten up by prejudice weevils same also his opinions. True federalism allows the constituent states manage their tax regimes simple. In Nigeria's case the tax regimes are evenly divided for the Federal govt and states. Now what Monitz is trying to articulate which he failed to, is State participation in exploitation and exploration of natural resources. He was wants the States with their own "NNPC" etc. But that's socialism not true federalism. Government involved in business is socialism. |
