Gbola5:Be very careful what you wish for, buddy; the promised Winds of Winter has been breaking hearts year after year. As for the widening books vs. show storylines, I think the final ending to both will still be more or less same. Jaime in Dorne, mmmmh... honestly I fear that that dude is a goner. Remember what happened to the Kings Guard assigned to Myrcella in the books, then factor in that when last we met Jaime in ADWD Brienne was leading him by the nose to Lady Stoneheart. Plus both show and books don't balk at killing off major characters. My conclusion, Jaime Lannister dies in Dorne... prolly episode 9 or the season finale. |
gj22: ![]() I knew this would happen - rush and watch all 4 episodes at once, then spend a whole month waiting for episode 5. Me I tried to take it jejely but i finally watched no.3 two days ago; i go watch no.4 on sunday... then I'll join the waiting crew too. |
@ qloreal, "The World of Ice of Fire" is actually more like an encyclopedia to the books. I'd advice reading up to maybe Book2 or 3, before delving into TWOIAF. |

gj22:The point of the history lesson is that most of our posters (you included) mixed up Dany's connection to Aemon (of the Night's Watch). Most think Aemon is her uncle (or granduncle)... Wrong. Aemon is her GREAT-GRAND UNCLE. Its kinda amusing that you admit making a mistake in saying Dany is Rhaegar's daughter and yet can't understand the need for history. #justSaying |
Finally... downloaded and watched episodes 1and 2 yesterday. Not bad at all... and Tyrion continues to impress. First he drinks some wine, throws up the wine, and immediately drinks some more wine again ![]() Varys: You can either stay here and drink yourself to death, or you can ride with me to Mereen and meet the mother of dragons... Tyrion: (drinks some wine) Can I drink myself to death on the road to Mereen? ![]() All in all, I think I'm pleased with how the show is proceeding... Diverging more and more from the books, yes - Sansa never met Brienne; Jaime actually despised Bronn; NO ONE has seen Varys since he fled Westeros - but hey, its like a new flavor of your old favorite brew! Me likey. EDIT: sorry, Varys showed up in DwD, to kill Kevan Lannister if my memory serves me right... Although technically I'm still correct, cos he had to come back to Westeros to do that. ![]() |
^^^ Guys please stop derailing.. Carry the "which tv series is best" argument to another thread abeg. The things I'm looking forward to (based on what I grabbed from the trailer): - Tyrion meeting Daenarys: The trailer implies it could happen this season, but i'm just keeping my fingers crossed. Meanwhile, who else has heard that Akinkunmi-Agbaje (hope I got the name) is on the cast? - Drogon growing to full size: Mehnn, can't wait for this one If I stretch my imagination a bit, I can almost see him flying over the Red Keep with Daeny a-back and gingerly toasting up Lannister and Tyrell bannermen. ![]() - Meeting the Sand Snakes: From the trailer, apparently Jaime Lannister will be making that trip instead of whats-his-name of the Kings Guard. |
Funny, i'm not sure i've been to the cinema this year o... But a bunch of my friends who'd gone to see Chappie complained so bitterly, i started feeling sorry for them. ![]() |
This is so sad, I had to look it up online. I hope and pray the reversal project doesn't disappear into obscurity.
|
^^^ True, that. From my clinical analysis of the online trailers, it is very likely that they intend to merge Lady Stoneheart's role into Sansa's. And apparently Young Griff will be cut out entirely (i'm not yet sure about Frog though), so Tyrion won't be taking that long-winded boat-ride down the Rhoyne after all.I've heard say that in spite of the slowly widening differences, the final ending to the series will still be pretty close to what is planned for the books; what this tells me is that some characters and story arcs may ultimately become irrelevant in the final books even though at present they seem pretty crucial. Prime examples are Lady Stoneheart and young Aegon/Griff (is he really Aegon??). Now if I'm right, it means Jaime Lannister is likely going be "laying to rest" Lady Stoneheart when he finally meets her in books, and Aegon's forces are going to be crushed before they get within spitting distance of King's Landing - or conversely (and I prefer this version) he wins Kings Landing after a protracted siege (during time which Madam Dragon finally gets on her way back home) but decides he doesn't owe allegiance to Madam D who has just arrived, so Madam D simply swoops down and burns him to crispies ) |
Abeg I'm too bored jare, its this thursday that feels like a friday.... Who wants to talk about the, ehnn, "forthcoming" Winds of Winter? Walahi that book has gone beyond forthcoming, its now forth-going. ![]() |
expozey:Number 1 and 2 in particular. I can actually stomach some editorial and production mistakes - after all nobody knows it all - but the scripting!! And the directing!! Oh my God, anytime I make the mistake of watching a nollywood movie (even the so-called good ones), I just feel like tearing out my hair. Diction, zero; wittiness, zero; suspense, zero. Lets not even talk about the sound production/sound tracks - celine dion don finish for market na. ![]() Also, besides the reasons pointed by expozey above, the simple fact is that very few cinemas (if any at all) show Nigerian movies outside the country's shores. Yes, there's still money from dvd sales and all, but real commercial success for any movie is a function of the number of cinemas showing it - and if cinemas ain't showing, then people ain't watching! |
You didn't say what the audition was for, but if it was for a movie..well, I'm not a fan of nollywood, but I know they rarely shoot movies for longer than a few weeks (I've even heard ONE week). So I don't think you have that big a problem; surely you can juggle both school and an acting career. |

Seun:Slow down ke? Hell to the no. Ive read all the books but im still loving the show; slowing down will kill the anticipation/momentum/fun. Updates on the show actually imply that GRRM has provided Benioff and the producers with concluding plot points in case he isn't around to complete the books (=kicks the bucket). |
In a totally unrelated news, I just read that India is set to shoot its own version of Game of Thrones. The whole idea is just too funny. I'm guessing Nollywood won't be far behind. ![]() http://rt.com/news/244741-game-thrones-india-remake/ |
SIRcumalot:Glad u liked it! Just started Ursula K. Le Guin's classic, The Left Hand of Darkness . |
Ignatio:The problem is that there is sooo much that is still yet to happen. I hear they are planning to shorten some story-arcs, but even at that there's still TWO whole books yet to be released. Plus the big question that everyone is trying to ignore: What happens when the show overtakes the books? Personally I'll give it up to seven seasons. |
I'll take the car off u for 700k. bbm: 5314a464 if interested. |
^^^ Yeah... guess you have a point there; everyone can't like the same thing. I'm still ploughing through the remainder on the book sha - can't get any worse than it is already. |
SIRcumalot: kay9:Unfortunately, I was proved right! ![]() I actually logged on just to vent my frustration... Bros, see eh, no offence but this series - especially this Book 2 - is a sad excuse for a fantasy novel. Excellent prose no doubt, but the amount of irritating romantic fluff it contains is way above the allowed threshold for the genre it claims. I'm almost at the middle of the book and nothing has happened yet - and please don't even mention his childish pissing contest with the Ambrose guy, those sort of stories are for high school kids. Sadly I've already started, and I always finish a book no matter how effed up it turns out. But I certainly won't be reading Book 3.... |
rather high asking price... 650k? |
SIRcumalot: kay9:This is a review of sorts... So i kept to my word and have just finished The Name of the Wind (Kingkiller chronicles 1). Really good book, worth a solid 4.5/5... but not as a fantasy novel. You see, that was my mistake - I attacked the book thinking I was reading a fantasy novel (mostly SirCumalot's fault sha). Half-way through, I started feeling a little let-down. That was when I realized what I was reading: at its bare essence the book is actually an anthology of stories - some of them beautiful fantasy, some "mathemagic", and towards the end mostly romantic thrillers with a good bit of detective cycling-round-the-mill thrown in (truth be told, this was the part that threw me off) - all centered on one character and cleverly disguised as an autobiography. So, like I said, a solid delivery, a no-questions-asked 4.5/5, BUT I know a good number of fantasy standalone novels that thrump it... Stormlight 1, for example. ![]() Moving on to Book 2: The Wise Man's Fear... who knows, I may yet be proved wrong ![]() EDIT::: I take back my 4.5 rating... 4 is good enough, perhaps even a bit generous. |
