SIRcumalot:KingKiller Chronicles... mmm, ok I'll look it up. Finished Words of Radiance late Saturday. |
Brandon Sanderson - Words of Radiance (The Stormlight Archive, Book 2). Halfway through. Hey, just had to share this.. Do u like fantasy? Enjoyed the Song of Ice and Fire series? Have a soft spot for Tolkien? Or did u grow your literary milk teeth on Sword of Shannara and Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time books? Well, guess what? The good ol' days are back again! The name is The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson (Stormlight Archive bk 1). Seriously, this is probably the best novel of its genre i've ever read. So...now u know. Oya, find it and read and tell others the good news! ![]() |
No probs. Hope I get good enough to contribute though. |
@ d3mn8 and temi, thanks guys. I'd already arrived at same conclusions you advice but it is still good to know I made the right choices. I'm running Ubuntu on VMware now; currently getting my grips on Linux commands/terminal. Hope to move on to C language by next week. |
Well well well... Not one comment yet?? Woooooww! Oh well, for the benefit of others who may click the topic in future, hoping that my question's been answered, here's the best explanation I could find: "Unix" was originally the name of an operating system for the PDP-11, developed at Bell Labs in the 1970s. Its design was immensely influential, and it was copied and reimplemented dozens of times.Source:http://superuser.com/questions/816018/what-is-the-relationship-between-unix-linux-ubuntu-and-debian I'm downloading Ubuntu right now from http://releases.ubuntu.com/14.04.1/ubuntu-14.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso. Sayonara! |
Nobody on NL using Linux/Unix?? Well, that's a new one... Anyway, i found www.unixdownload.net; things are lil simpler now. But I still won't a few pointers... I'm thinking of going with Ubuntu. |
Hello guys. I use quite a number of processing softwares at my place of work and I actually learned most of them by myself (I even dabbled a little with Java many years ago, but I was still job-searching then and I dropped it when it didn't bring in quick bucks). The thing is, recently I've needed to work with certain types of data at their most raw form, and I've heard that this is best done on Linux/Unix. And so, I need to learn it. ![]() I've already been to www.unix.org and lots of other Unix-for-beginners sites, but i can't seem to get the gist of it...perhaps cos i'm addicted to windows or maybe I'm just getting old. For instance, here are some questions I can't seem to find answers to: - What EXACTLY do I need to run Unix?? - I understand Unix is an OP-system, so umm, do I need to run it on a stand-alone system (just like windows)? How about using VMware, will that work? Or does it run on windows...? I'm pretty lost on this one. - And PLEASE where exactly can I get the Unix operating system itself?? Anymore comments/suggestions on how to proceed from here will be really appreciated. And good help-sites too. I'm mostly a do-it-yourself person, so good tutorials will be appreciated too. Thanks. |
I'd have chosen Turkey, but it is lying pretty close to Georgia, which is right next to Russia, and going by all the whoop-de-doop going down in nearby Ukraine, i dont think i wanna be anywhere near when Vladamir Putin decides to make it rain. So.... chicken it is for me. ![]() |
Ayire: 15. My son, there is this thing you people call feminism,Shikena. I've always thought that all these gender equality hullabaloo is just a storm in a tea cup. Any day my sweet darling honeypie starts spouting that hogwash at me, i'll simply divvy up the bills and hand her her "equality" share. |
myspnigeria: Put the toilet seat upNever thought i'd live to see the day a woman writes this... ....wait o, OP, you're a woman, right? |
skylane: Although the way she stood so gallantly sent chills down my spine but I was ready 4 any punishment....Ride on, Soul-Brother! ![]() |
I feel for you, my dear. You said he "burst into tears"; i dont understand, what was he crying about? |
adanduka: Why would a man be fixing things around the house to say I love you. He should say it and then fix things too to drive home his confessions. You cant eat your cake and have it; either i say i love you, or i fix the tv...... ... And going by your comment, i think i'll rather fix the tv. ![]() |
The title of this thread should have been Once Upon A Time, Season 1. ![]() All the same, not bad. |

Csami: I use to say people hate what they can't understand until i saw cloud atlas. pls anybody that knows what that waste of time is talkin about should kindly tell me.Well, u've said it all: u couldn't understand the movie, thus u've become disaffected with it. On the other hand, I understood the movie and i loved it. I loved it so much i even went after the David Mitchell novel that inspired it. You see, this movie is not just a ''movie''; its a work of art! If you've ever done one of those diagrammatic I.Q/aptitude tests, then u might understand the structure of the movie. Cloud Atlas is a combination of 6 different stories, each occuring at different stages of history (from distant past to distant future), all connected in subtle, easter-egg-ish ways, and ALL of them being told CONCURRENTLY. So the question is, are you smart enough to follow 6 different stories at the same time? ![]() |
I guess we'll be seeing more of Oviduct Veranda after all. Mehn, this is bad news for me. |
nairalforlaughs: Op, move to Saudi Arabia where only men drive. Mind u, saudi women are already protesting; might be too late by the time Op gets there...But seriously, some women can be really terrible behind the wheel. Look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv0HkM0XiBs ![]() |

Endymion (#3 of the Hyperion Cantos) by Dan Simmons. Albite mobile epub reader; darn thing doesn't show page numbers, but chapter 18 i think (too tired to check jor). Not a bad read so far, but after blazing through Hyperion and The Fall Of Hyperion (#1 and #2 of the series), i've sorta begun to expect every book by Simmons to be a masterpiece.... and this book doesn't look like its gonna hit that high bar. But hey, its still a good read. |
JB789: I have not even finished laughing over your boyfriend and his father's new car and here you are with yet another. Please moderators, over to front page.I swear, that was same thing that brought me here ![]() |
Anuoluwap: Almost all actors use such tricks but you won't find it in most of jackie chan's movies. He uses tricks but very rare. He prefers to put his life on the line in fighting & stunts which makes him the real deal...^^ ![]() This is how students manage to score zero in Waec's english comprehension passages. Dude, the argument is NOT who does better stunts/tricks; it is WHO IS A BETTER MARTIAL ARTIST. And by martial arts, we mean kung fu, karate, tae kwondo, wushu, kick-boxing... Kapish?? ![]() Now, if you wanna discuss doing hard tricks or stunts or jumping over 9 ft walls, then kindly open a new thread and we'll trash it out there. Oh, and by the way, Jackie wins my vote in that category. ![]() |
longjohnsilver: Spot on...even though jackie can also be a badass wen he is serious buh my money is on jet li for that fightYou know your onions, bro. okpara ugo: guy the fight I watched was a no-weapons fight. Jackie is just too muchBros forget The Forbidden Kingdom; that movie was just a box office stunt. If you wanna rate Jet Li in an unaided fight, reference his Bruce Lee classic remake... The Fist of Legend. We all love Jackie (and he's a better ACTOR, to be honest), but Jet Li totally killed it in that movie. The dude effortlessly pulled off a mix of ''rigid'' chinese kung fu and the more flexible japanese karate. If u've ever seen Jackie that bad-asss, abeg direct me to the movie.Funny enough, the person i rate as kinda on par with Jet Li, martial arts wise, is Donnie Yen. Yeah, that dude sabi sha. |
Best STUNT artist... Jackie Chan Best MARTIAL artist... Jet Li As for who wins in a 1-on-1 unaided no-weapons fight, thats easy... Jet Li is so gonna whoop Jackie Chan's asss. ![]() It doesn't get any simpler than that. ![]() |
