PoliticsRe: Purported Attempt By Boko Haram Members To Bomb Unn And Another School Foiled by Kc3000: 7:42am On Dec 28, 2011
So, The Vanguard and their journalists, or perhaps the police itself, cooked up this story? Is that what I'm hearing from some people? If you were not present at the location, at the said time, how can one confidently sit somewhere, cross one's leg, and dismiss the report. Only a first class i.diot would completely disregard this report, given the happenings in this country of ours. Has boko haram not been delivering on most of their threats? I also hope that the report is false, but how could I possibly sit in the comfort of my home and wave off this report, with all that has been going on in Nigeria? If it is true, I thank God for averting the disaster, and encourage all Nigerians to be as vigilant as possible.
Trust, nobody wants to see a full scale war in Nigeria, at the same time, nobody wants to be on the receiving end of unprovoked violence. I truly fear for the future of this country, because I know that if Boko keeeps heading in the direction that they are going, soon enough they would hit people where it truly hurts and retaliation would be inevitable. We've been through these episodes before, where violence erupts in the north, with reprisals in the east, but it would take on a different dimension if a massive attack actually occurs in the south. I don't believe the average Nigerian wants anything to do with a war, but in the same token, no one ever thought Nigeria would find itself in the 3 year civil war that we had. My observation, even in a one-on-one confrontation, is that there is usually a threshold that is not easily discernible,  and usually only observed with the benefit hindsight, at which what seems like mild provocations quickly erupts into a situation beyond anyone's control. How far are we from this threshold?
PoliticsRe: MASSOB Leader Uwazuruike To Succeed Ojukwu As The New Igbo Leader by Kc3000: 7:14pm On Dec 27, 2011
Move this to the jokes section. Ojukwu himself was only a leader of the Igbo during the civil war, and after that he was never the leader of the Igbo. . . no one is. Any reference to Ikemba in such a capacity, was always in celebration of his great love for the Igbo, and his efforts during the war. Ojukwu's status as Ezeigbo existed in the hearts of the people, and not because someone crowned him as such. Uwazuruike does not command that level of respect and affection in the hearts of the people.

PoliticsRe: Why Did Awo Lose The 1979 Election? by Kc3000: 3:22am On Dec 08, 2011
@Ayowumie, very well stated, but I would disagree with you on certain points. Igbos do not hate IBB, Obasanjo, Gowon, etc for the simple reason that they fought in the war. NO. These people were soldiers intent on keeping the country one, and they came and engaged the combatant forces of Biafra to achieve this objective. . . ok and fine. They are NOT despised by Igbos today for their efforts in the war. But when Awolowo starts asking for the blockade of relief from red cross, and other humanitarian organizations that are trying to get to starving Biafran children, that is THE HEIGHT OF WICKEDNESS. That is not the thinking of someone trying to win the war and return the Igbo to Nigeria, that notion came from a soul that would have loved to see the Igbo exterminated. I know it might be difficult to see Awo in this light, because of what he meant to the Yoruba, and rightly so. He did a lot for his people, but his desires for the Igbo(represented by his efforts to starve them to death) was nothing short of evil, and I cannot mince words on this. Mind you, I'm not stating that Awolowo invented this tactics, it's certainly been employed before.
There were fears that some of the food might end up in the hands of Biafran soldiers, but such fears exist in all wars, yet people find it in their hearts to permit humanitarian organizations to provide relief for the women and children, whom are truly just the sideline victims of war. Yet our Awo, distinguished statesman, took the most extreme stance possible. His duty to Nigeria as a Federal  Minister did not include advocating for genocide.

Again, why would Ademoyega(directly involved in the coup), Ojukwu, Obasanjo and others just pop out of the blues and state that the coup plotters were intent on installing Awolowo as president? Is it just because they like the way his name sounds? grin These are individuals that were very much involved in that episode, in one way or another. Looking forward to your response.

In a twisted turn of events, the controversial candidate, infamously known as Okija-Juju is reportedly having a most difficult time of embracing the reality that his quest to become the Eze Ndigbo of Nairaland, ended just as vigorously as it began. Having sold all his land, quickly marrying away his last two daughters, and dipping his hands into the treasury of the Okija Development Foundation, for the purpose of funding his election. . . .Chief Okija now finds himself in a most unenviable position.
In an elaborate campaign in which no expenses were spared, he took out ads in publications such as TIME magazine and many others, and offered lucrative bribes to an army of romantic youths. The self proclaimed 'Ichie onye ego na achu oso' ran a no-expense spared campaign that would have made the Sultan of Brunei blush. However, the rather emaciated figure of Chief Okija today, as he sits in his front porch sporting a white singlet and brown shorts, as he aggressively gnaws on a chewing stick, paints a completely different picture. According to the last of his eight wives, Mgbafor, he has refused to eat or even talk, except for occasional outbursts in which he violently shruggs his shoulders, looks to the heavens, and pleads with his ancestors to mercilessly punish the architect of his downfall, Commisioner PointB. @Abagworo, those were exactly my sentiments when I first stumbled on the original thread, and I quickly voiced my displeasure with the whole thing. But on a second look, I realized the light-hearted nature of the thread had escaped me. I believe the Umunna are just having fun with this, and taking a break from the nauseating daily routine of arguing with Ndi Yoruba. . . . .although some of the more helpless ones have trailed us here.
So, Chief, do not pop an artery over this. My only surprise is that you were not at least nominated, given how versed you are in Igbo affairs.

Well, "by their posts, you shall know them", its not hard to tell who is who on Nairaland. Any other grievances you have, must be taken up with the Electoral Commision. I was only exercising my civic duties by supporting or rejecting candidates I deemed fit or unfit to lead Ndigbo. Enjoy the loooooooong vacay!  smiley

hahhaahahaaa, things are really heating up.

-Okija, you are one relentless mofo. . . . I'll give you that. But, there's really no need to pull a Buhari, just bow out with grace.  Much of your support came from non-Igbos, while all those that doggedly rejected your candidacy are eligible sons and daughters of the soil. Remember the story of Usu(the bat), whom was neither an anu-elu(bird) or anu-ala(mammal), and at the end was rejected by both groups. . . .now that you have been rejected by your people maybe your good friends on the other side can let you lead themhuhI think not.

@lailaiwala, you have made some very fine contributions, but forget this Okija talk. He's just reaping what he sowed!

I don't care how many romance section people he recruits, it is your duty to Ndigbo to make sure this traitor does not make it to the polls. PoliticsRe: Why Did Awo Lose The 1979 Election? by Kc3000: 7:58pm On Dec 05, 2011
@Lanrefemi Sorry I never saw your response to my post. The Igbo do not lay blame on Awolowo for what led to the civil war, we only give him his due as an enemy of the Igbo. For this simple reason; only someone that wishes the absolute worst for the Igbo would have advocated for the federal government to block all food aids going to the starving Igbo children during the war, as Awolowo did. That kind of wickedness, to me, ranks up there with the characteristics of the HITLER's and MUSSOLINI's of the world. It is impossible to imagine that Zik would have taken such an inhumane stance if the Yoruba found themselves in a similar situation.
It was more agonizing b'cos the Igbo had seen Awolowo as a friend. As I posited above, Dr. Okpara, the eastern premier,  reached out to help him during the wild-wild west era, and while he was in prison for treason, Okpara and other Igbo leaders did everything to make him comfortable, including providing him a living quarters outside the prison, and paying salaries and allowances to his wife from the Eastern Nigerian government.
Speaking of the senseless coup of Jan 1966 that you alluded to, I've never been one to admire Ifeajuna, Nzeogwu, Ademoyega etc. no matter how brilliant or principled they were. This overzealous lot set the prelude for everything that transpired till the civil war. On the kind of mission that they set out to accomplish, one must either absolutely succeed or die in the process. They did neither.  However, people like to discount the fact that there were Igbo and Yoruba actors in this coup, and that one of their major objectives was to install Awolowo as the president of Nigeria. Ademoyega(a principal actor in the coup), Ojukwu, Obasanjo(a bossom friend of Nzeogwu) to name a few, have all confirmed this objective of the coup plotters. Apparently, Awolowo must have talked a good game, because many of the young officers in the military at the time looked up to him as a principled man that could lead Nigeria in the right direction. Many Igbos were disappointed, and still are, when the true colors of Awolowo emerged during the war.
No sensible Igbo person blames Awolowo for the war, nor blames the Yoruba for not getting involved,. . . as you noted, it was not their fight. In fact, I read somewhere of a Col. Olurin that resigned from the Army rather than fight the Igbo. On the other hand, no one can fault the Yoruba that were in the Army for fighting in the war, as they were only executing their duties as soldiers. Since the war ended, I regret to note that it has mostly been Yorubas that have taken the unwise decision to antagonize the Igbo about the events of the war, and during Obasanjo's civilian regime, it was pretty much government policy to do so. Obj himself, as a sitting president, on more than one occasion expressed his disdain for a section of the country he was supposed to be leading, a serving minister(some adelaja character) without provocation insulted Ndigbo, and was not even reprimanded. When another Yoruba, serving as Nigeria's Ambassador to the U.S did the same, he was summarily recalled and relieved of his post by Yar'adua. Ndigbo have never seen the Yoruba as enemies, but some Yorubas are effectively changing this notion.

Hahaha this is a joke, or at least I hope it is. There is no such thing as Eze Ndigbo anywhere. Our forefathers made a habit of governing themselves through a council of elders,. . . lets try that, if we must promote our culture.

-Everytime I've seen an assembly of Ndigbo crown someone as Eze-Ndigbo, it usually marks the beginning of the end of whatever togetherness they had enjoyed. Sooner than later, different factions emerge with their own Ezes. Happens all the time, because Ndigbo are naturally averse to such lordship.

- Not to be a party pooper, but I just had to say my bit before someone starts parading himself as "Eze-Ndigbo Nairaland" and making declarations on my behalf. I would not recognize any such persons. Please, carry on with your elections.

In all honesty, Aluko should have just payed his  respect to his 'good friend' Ojukwu, rather than emerging in Ojukwu's death to make all sorts of declarations. All these years that Ojukwu lived, he never took credit.for the Aburi meeting, so that we could confirm his claims from Ikemba. As soon as he passes, oh ' I taught Ojukwu how to tie his shoe laces, I taught him how to ride a bicycle'. How do we corroborate his tales now that he conveniently waited for Ojukwu to pass before making his revealations? Who told him he was the only one Ojukwu respected and consulted during those trying times?  I believe they were friendly but Prof seems to be a master of exaggerations.

I often wonder why the same people waste time arguing and  writing passages on the very same nonsense. It should be obvious by now that no amount of persuasion can change the truth, or your perceptions of the truth. Would Bluetooth, Seanete02, alj harem, Ileke-idi, Katsumoto or the likes ever have a favourable opinion of Ojukwu, no matter the evidence presented? NEVER. Would Abagworo, Dede-1, Chyz* etc see any justification for Nigeria's genocide against the Igbo? NOT IN THIS LIFE OR THE NEXT. So, why the exercise in futility?

What a personality! The Ikemba would be surely missed. Just reading through the second post by nolongtin, contemplating Ojukwu's take on some of Nigeria's historical figures, my admiration of this stalwart of a man is strongly reaffirmed. The clarity of his thoughts, the honesty of his opinions and convictions, his uncanny intelligence ever on display, and armed with an unassuming but confident understanding of his his place in African history, Ikemba, even in death continues to tower above his contemporaries. Indeed, a huge void has been left in the space occupied by the rarest of men, and a great son of Africa has gone to meet his creator. He sure left his mark in the sands of time.

@kobojunkie, lol, calm your nerves! Ok I see on the second link, tucked away somewhere there, they did pledge to help in developing the centers. My bad on that. But how much was their financial contribution to the project. I believe the state government footed the bill for this, and deservedly should be commended.
PoliticsRe: Abia State Diagnostic Center Video: by Kc3000: 9:16pm On Nov 25, 2011
@kobojunkie,

I really don't know what u are raving and ranting about, the link you provided DID NOT say anything about a Diagnostic Center. . .you manufactured that bit about cooperating with the government to develop the center. Very devious of you, I must say.The U.S group you reference takes no credit for providing the Digital X-ray, CT or MRI equipment that are currently being used in either Umuahia or Aba. CT scan machines would definitely cost some six figures in dollars, and an MRI machine cost an upward of a million dollars(could even be up to 3 million dollars). Multiply these figures by two( for the Aba and Umuahia centers), and factor in the price of getting the centers running. From what I saw on the video, these centers are very well furnished.
I am not an Orji apologist by any stretch, but a job well done is a job well done. Dr. Mbanaso and Dr. Ezeikpe(whose hospital was acquired for the center in Umuahia) are two of the most reputable individuals in the state, and with their direct involvement in the project, I'll take their words as stated in the video. President  Goodluck Jonathan came in person to commision both centers and to congratulate the state government for a job well done. The state government gets credit for this welcomed development, and I see no reason to think otherwise.
