adekzy:You guys should be fair in your criticisms. So Houtis are now the victim? Where were u and houti supporters since November when they started attacking international shipping in international waters? Are they ships doing their legitimate business part of the war? Why can't they attack Isreal and leave innocent ships alone? If your brother is a sailor who plies that route and they kill him for something that is not his business, would you be here talking nonsense? Or the lives of sailors in international waters don't matter to you? The houtis are very stupid. They will draw the fire by themselves but when the fire starts consuming them, they will start crying genocide. They won't care about their civilians now ooo. On Oct 7, Hamas in their own wisdom decided that the best way to resolve their grievances with Isreal is to go into isreal and massacre civilians and take more than 300 hostage from Isreal, Imagine! What were they thinking? Isreal of all countries that is built on war. They know their civilians will pay the price cos Isreal will surely come for them but that is their goal, to draw the fury of Isreal and come back to claim victim and accuse Isreal of genocide. I expected demonstrations from Palestinians, arabs, south Africans etc to condemn hamas actions during that time Hamas carried out that terror act on isreal but they didn't. If they had done that, it would be fair to hang Isreal for the situation in Gaza. By the way, this whole middle east crisis is formented by Iran to get regional hegemony over the arabs. Why is Shia Iran carrying Sunni Palestinians matter on their head while Sunni arabs like Saudi,Egypt,Jordan etc aren't? Are you telling me that Shia Iran love the Palestinians more than the Palestinians Sunni brothers? Iran would not join the fight but will engage its proxies to fire the weapons and draw the fight to their own land and the mumu idiots will do it and cry genocide tomorrow. As for South Africa, let them solve their xenophobic problems before putting their mouth in other people's issues. Before the end of the year, their citizens will go and kill foreigners in their country and destroy their businesses but they are here forming holier than thou. By the way, Ukraine did not attack Russia to start the war. Russia brought the war to them. If Ukraine did what Hamas did, nobody would have given a damn about their suffering. You can't initiate a war and claim victim, I won't buy that. |
Pecoleee345:Why should you let the president off the hook here? The degradation of Nigeria is primarily the fault of the president. To be fair to Tinubu, he wasn't the one that destroyed it as it started before him but he has contributed to bury it. The major items that controls the health and viability of the country rests on the FG. The president presides over the monetary and fiscal policies which sets the tone for the economy which affects the states. CBN though independent reports to the president. When naira depreciates due to stupid policies that gives rise to inflation, it is not on the governors. The president controls the police, army, dss and the entire security architecture etc. Not the governors. When farmers can't farm because of the massacre by terrorists in the middle belt which now leads to higher food prices, the fault is more on the president than governors cos governors don't control the armed forces. I can go on and on. Unfortunately, our structure is the cause of this deep problems. We copied democracy from the west but applied it the wrong way due to greed. If we practiced true federalism then the governors would have more of the blame. Now they are hiding under the FG cos the FG is too powerful. In the west like Canada and US, each state or province function like an independent country and in charge of its economy. No sharing of money from FG, it is the state that contributes money to the FG. The resources in each state is used for the state so every state is forced to develop it's own unique economy. In Nigeria, the states are useless cos there is oil money to be shared every month. I'm not saying the governors are doing well, in fact, they are useless but as per your argument, the president shares the biggest blame in the current situation. |
tensazangetsu20:Have you forgotten that dangote borrowed majority of the money he used for the refinery in dollars? I hope he doesn't mop up all the dollars in Nigeria to pay back his dollar denominated loans else it won't be funny oooo |
ednut1:He is messing up. I can forgive him for the mismanagement of the pandemic after all almost every western country made the same mistake. Nobody up till that point has managed a global pandemic of that magnitude. Even China economy hasn't recovered from the effect of that pandemic. I'm voting against him mainly cos of the carbon tax he has so far refused to rescind across board. We can't fight climate change with tax and spend policy, it should rather be technology driven. He is becoming too ideologically stiff without applying common sense. |
lastkingsman:It is not Putin. Putin's influence resonates more in Europe than North America. Canada has a lot of things Russia has that Europe doesn't have. It is the mismanagement of the pandemic. During the pandemic, they threw a lot of money into the system when people were on lockdown. After the pandemic, there was too much money and less goods and services. If you remember basic economics, it states that when too much money are chasing few goods and services, inflation occurs. This is what happened after the pandemic and central bank had to use monetary policy of hiking interest rate to kill demand and slow the economy. In summary, it is using monetary policy to fix the fiscal mess created by the government and unfortunately people are paying for it I know they won't throw money again if the pandemic happens again. I hope they have learnt their lessons. |
CPP that is driving this additional payroll deduction is called the Canada Pension Plan where you and your employer contribute towards your pension. If you work in corporate office in Nigeria, this shouldn't be new to you. What the government is trying to do now is to make people contribute more money to their pension so as to have more money at retirement, this is why they are increasing the threshold so that people who earn more money contribute more to their pension. Is this a good policy? Well, while there seem to be some sense in protecting and increasing pension, personally, I don't fancy that idea as I need the money now ![]() The only tax that doesn't make sense entirely is the carbon tax. The idea that you can deliberately make fuels more expensive so that people pivot to electric is stupid in my opinion especially as the electric transition is still at an infant stage. Climate change is real, we know but to fight it you need to be realistic but then that is the problem with liberal governments all over the world, they are not realistic as they are fighting climate change in a stupid way that end up increasing the cost of living. Carbon tax is NOT a good way to fight climate change as it increases the cost of living not just fuel The good thing is that the opposition is hammering on that carbon tax now and it is gaining traction in the country. Canadians are beginning to see that it doesn't make sense. This is why the opposition is leading by double digits in polling currently and are favored to win the next election. The government is already caving in as they have made some exemptions in Atlantic Canada and some provinces will stop collecting the tax from January 1st. So at the end of the day, he will either scrap it entirely or loose the next election. Even if he scraps it now, I think it is too late for the incumbent to win the next election. The sweet thing is that we have the power as citizens to change our government when they mess up which we will do in the next 18 months unlike in Nigeria where citizens are powerless to change a non performing government even if they wanted to and this is what makes the difference. As Canadians, we are confident that the challenges we face today will be sorted out in few years time. This is not the first time we have faced some serious problems but it gets addressed either by the incumbent or a change in government and that is the beauty of a working democracy |
Nairaland and fake stories. How can she claim to earn that low and you didn't discover for years When you know where she works and What her position is. Was she working in a backyard pure water company as a cleaner? A company that can pay 600k is a big company, did she lie she is a cleaner in a big company? The difference between 35k and 600k is too much to go unnoticed. The story is fake |
Please guys, the person I'm trying to help got admission to conestoga college on her first choice course while her 2nd and 3rd are on waitlist. Now, after examining the issue, her chances of getting a visa is stronger on her 2nd and 3rd choices compared to the first cos it is more aligned career wise and she can build a convincing story around the 2 courses My question now is if she declines the first choice admission she already have now, will it prompt them to give her the second or third choice admission which she now wants? Has anyone gotten admission on all 3 courses selected at Conestoga before? Thanks |
OgbeniOptional:Bros, I didn't say 800k won't be enough for somebody afterall people who earn 50k are still alive. I was jus responding to your statement that someone earning 800k can build a house in 4 years and I'm telling you that is not realistic in today's Nigeria where you buy materials today for say 20 naira and by the time you come back next month to buy the same material it has now become 25 naira Your 800k can't even get you 2 trips of chippings. A trip (20 tons) now is not less than 450k now. I have a building project going on right now and I know what my eye is seeing. For someone earning 800k to own a house in Lagos or any other top city in Nigeria where he has to buy a land, he will either take a mortgage or build it over 7 years at least and that is if all his monthly earnings is going into his building project and that is not realistic |
OgbeniOptional:What am I reading? Are you talking about 800k 10 years ago or 800k in today's Nigeria? Are you talking about building a house in Lagos or other viable cities or building a bungalow in your village? Even if you don't remove 1 penny from your 800k salary in 4 years, it may not even be enough to buy you a land in Lagos in some locations not to talk of building a house. Do you know the present cost of building materials? Have you done a building project recently? So how then can you pay your rent, fuel your car and home etc. on your 800k salary and still build a house in a city from the money in 4 years? You be magician? It's obvious you are a low income earner, that is why 800k looks big to you, it is not your fault, I understand. |
The Nigerian situation has made people develop thick skin and assume they can survive in any situation forgetting that being a temporary resident on a student visa is a whole lot different from being a permanent resident in a new country. If you talk to them about the reality of being a temporary resident without money, they tell you there must be a way somehow somehow make we reach there first. Fellow Nigerians, we know you have suffered and are resilient in tough times but ensure you have money for school fees and living expenses before you embark on that student journey. If you get a favorable job when you arrive that becomes a bonus for you but you can't rely on paying your school fees and living expenses by just working when you came to study, that is very risky. |
ednut1:It is now a 50 50 stuff. Thanks |
aestake:Thanks for this insight |
ednut1:Oga ednut, please do you know how international students are transitioning to PR currently? I heard CEC draws haven't been done for a long time. If that is the case, does it now mean it is no longer a guarantee that people who study here stay back after studies? |
This lady is just out to destroy this man and unfortunately for the stupid man, he fell for it. How would a girl leave her house to sleep in a man's house? Which kind of stupid play is that? No wonder girls are falling victim of ritual killings If you don't want sex, don't follow a man to his house not to talk of sleeping overnight. Resist the devil and it will flee from you. This tik tok generation sef |
Nigerian police disgracing themselves and their country since 1960. |
dannie007:This is scary. I'll probably have to plaster after roofing instead of the doors and windows I intended to do initially. At least they can steal plaster ![]() |
Goke7:Ok. Thanks |
dannie007:You mean stealing windows already installed on the building? |
Goke7:Ok. So that would be her only option. All other routes like care etc are all gone with this new policy, right? |
I spoke with my cousin rounding up her Masters in Accounting next month, she seems worried on what this new policy means for her. Her initial plan was to apply for the 2 yr post study work visa, is that no longer certain? If I understand well, the 2 year post study work visa remains but what happens after that 2 years is where the problem is. Am I correct? |
kopell:In fact, you understand my thoughts. I learnt they are stealing every stealable these days. Boys are not smiling. My hope is they can't steal installed doors and windows at least for now. |
Hi All, In building construction, is there anything wrong putting doors and windows immediately after roofing before plastering, electrical and plumbing works? What should be the correct order after roofing especially if I want to suspend the project and do the remaining works gradually after some time? I want to do one more stuff after roofing and divert my funds to another thing but I'm thinking of just putting the doors and windows but don't know if it makes sense. Thanks |
Lexusgs430:I give up |
Lexusgs430:Oga Lexus, is this confirmed? Even though he is a criminal, I know he is smart and wouldn't do this kind of unnecessary rubbish |
Augrere2022:Congrats. Please what bank did you do the GIC? @ All, Please what will happen if you use your money to do a GIC for someone and they didn't get a visa, how would you recover your money? |
chizagi:What are the current prices? Thanks |
Shapyglorious23:Please what is the current price of stone coated roofing sheet? Are they 0.45mm or 0.55mm? Thanks |
BabaRamota1980:You said in terms of resourcefulness, manpower and skills, Nigeria is ahead of Canada. Seriously, are you for real? Do you realize that Canada is a country of just 39m people but has the world's 8th largest economy? So paying for services is now bad from your post. So you don't pay for electricity, rent, car registration, taxes etc in Nigeria abi? Anyway I'm not surprised. After all, is it not in Nigeria people bypass prepaid meters so that they don't pay for light, is it not in Nigeria where an employer can owe their workers salary for months cos nobody wants to pay for anything in Nigeria so I can clearly understand your wacky mentality. You said that Canada has less than 5 metropolitan cities, seriously? From your post you don't even know the difference between a province and a city yet you are writing trash. By the way sun does not set at 3pm during the winter, it sets at 5pm. You also did not mention that in the spring and summer period, the same sun sets at 10pm. This is nature, it is not created by man You guys are masters of trashing countries better than yours but you can't channel that same energy to hold your own leaders who are responsible for this mess accountable. Common sense should tell you that these increasing wave of asylum is as a result of Nigeria getting worse. If Nigeria was thriving, why would people take such a risk. Rather than attack the root cause, you will rather trash a country that tries to cater for her people to the extent that they have food banks where the poor can go and collect free food but your own government hoarded covid palliatives until citizens broke the warehouses and took it by force. I don't know how Nigeria is breeding illiterates that sit in the corner of their villages and be writing trash online. By the way, I'm not in anyway supporting japa by all means, that's stupidity. I have made my position on this clear in this forum |
Jewessgratitud3:Nobody who has lived in highbrow modern estates in the Island or Abuja will come abroad and be surprised about the quietness "isolation" of the place. Who does he want to see on the road? People going to buy indomie or satchet milk or pure water on road side shops or Aboki kiosk? Does he think he is in Mushin? By the way, some of these things are just to create content for views, shares and likes. If he was serious, he would have said the name of the road, the day of the week and time of the day he was making that video. At least that would have provided the appropriate context to make a better judgment of the situation. What if it was a public holiday morning in a mostly business district, would that be a surprise? Make dem dey deceive people wey never travel out of Nigeria before. |
sukkot:Oga Sukkot, I understand what you are saying. But I think you are not getting the context right in my opinion I believe hardworking means someone who invests his time, energy, resources, convenience etc into a work. But whether he produces satisfactory output is a different matter. For example, If a persons leaves home by 5am in order to get to work by 8am, closes by 5pm to get home by 10pm as most Lagosians do, then that's hardwork. That routine is not a child's play. However, half of his time at work might be used to chat instead of being productive so while he is depriving himself sleep to go to work, we can say he is working hard but unproductive. The reason why lots of Nigerians are unproductive is because we don't see our work as a service but just a means to get money. It's like I put in the effort, you pay me my money. Whether the result is unsatisfactory or not that one no concern me,just pay me my money. I think we are hardworking but unprofessional and unproductive |
sukkot:I agree with you except on 2 issues. The west is not anti social as you portray it. Anyone who wants to be social will always find social things to do, the thing is there is time to work and time to play, we don't mix it up, it is an organized society You are right when you say people don't have your time in the west but in Nigeria the reason why people have your time is not necessarily by choice but by design. For instance, when you live in a flat and you don't have light on a Saturday evening with heat making your life miserable, what do you do? You will come out to receive fresh air, your neighbors experiencing the same thing will come out too before you know it you are chatting and laughing with your neighbors, getting to know them and forming some kind of bond. When you go across the street to buy something, you meet someone that lives across the street coming to the same shop and you start talking. If Nigeria is a country with 24/7 light, you have AC and cheap unlimited wifi internet and no street trading like we have here, do you think people will be coming out to chat with neighbors? The streets will be quieter as people will rather watch movies, chop kpomo etc than coming out to gossip and feel good. People will have less time for neighbors. For example, how many people do you see on the street in those beautiful estates in Lekki and Ikoyi compared to streets in Ogba,Ojota, Surulere etc? Secondly Nigerians work hard. The only problem with Nigerians is lack of quality customer service orientation. He can work all the hard but deliver a shoddy job cos he cares less about quality but just the money. If his salary is guaranteed at the end of the month, he can leave his house by 5am and get to work by 7am and still play around without delivering any tangible output and come back by 10pm. If his pay is dependent on finishing the job, he can even work overnight without sleep but delivers a shoddy job just to collect his money. Our service level in Nigeria is too poor cos all we care about is money not necessarily that we don't work hard. |
