and those small Countries like North Korea are creating fear amongst your so called BIG countries...so much for being a pawn...Even on this page were we chat daily most Nigerians support my stand...if u have the time u can do a survey. So much for mental slavery...i'd rather be a North Korea than a Nigerian who would kiss SA arse
Geronimoe: The day we begin to understand that all these small countries are just pawns in international politics is the day that we emancipate ourselves from mental slavery. You've now become a self appointed spokesman to majority of Nigerians.
Go and tell that to the North Koreans or the Cubans....No matter what the big Papa's would not destroy the rship between them(China and Russia their big daddies) for anything or anyone. I still stand on my points irrespective of yours...and i believe i speak for majority of Nigerians....even here
Geronimoe: Helped them during apartheid yen, yen, yen, yen, is that all we've got to say to SA? Can we let that rest please! If Nigeria is a serious country would we be discussing about this now. Goodluck Jonathan's govt messed up big time, there's no way any body can explain this away. I'm very sure part of that money was to be stolen(inflated contract), if not all. Make una no blame SA govt abeg, they have rules and if they decided not to break those rules for our own sake, why blame them. I'm very sure if the tables were turned today, govt officials, military, customs will be ready to play balls cos that one na our way. Crude oil is being lifted illegally by both European and Asian registered vessels in Nigeria and sold in international markets and you think Nigerian officials are not conniving? Abegi!
Nothing tie us with Saudi...we no even relate in anyway....to hell with them...Na SA be our brothers and we get beef with them...We are allowed to express it...Focus Abobi!!!!
IGpro1: Make una free ANC/South Africa na. Did Saudi Arabia not sieze the plane conveying weapons to Nigeria. It was a grand plot against the govt of former president Goodluck Jonathan. If he is wise he would make a strong point in his next 4 years from 2023.
Bro...if i become President of Nigeria today....I would not be comfortable doing deals with South Africa..Amd even if i would do any deal it would be outright purchase of the tech itself or nothing!!!
Lurker4Long: Nothing, absolutely nothing, stopped Nigeria from buying arms from South Africa legally. It is illegal under our law to bring bags of undeclared cash. Nigeria bought arms from SA before, and knows the proper process.
The only embarrassment is to the very senior people in your govt who were exposed for this attempted caper. It's your taxes and if you choose not to hold them accountable, no concern of mine.
But you can't go around regurgitating their exculpatory excuses and expect no response.
LTGEN: Lurker4Long A little bit of knowledge here . There are two major parties in Nigeria and some Nigerians are split down the Middle including in Families as to whom to support. What is not an issue is 90% of Nigerians don’t want their FG buying weapons of meaningful value from South Africa and this is in a G2-G2 deal . No hanky panky. Everything 100% Legal. Because of this one deal. That went south. Everyone agreed with legal shady aspect of it . But what infuriated Nigerians and brought us together ( Rare feat) South Africa kept rubbishing Nigeria long afterwards. We are giving you the Nigerian perspective . It was galling after everything Nigerians did to help the ANC end apartheid. We felt they went overboard with the legal scolding.
No...But we all are aware of the circumstances that lead to that. As a fellow African Country that supported them through the struggle against apartheid things could have been handled better. They did not have to allow things go South as they did
Lurker4Long: As a Nigerian and presumably a tax-payer are you happy that: 1) Bags of money are stuffed into a plane and flown away; 2) Customs officials in SA question all involved and detain plane and confiscate funds; 3) Detained persons claim to be on Nigerian govt business but some of them hold Israeli passports, can't produce any proof of any meetings with any arms company; 4) Nigerian officials confirm that the whole thing is highly irregular?
Does none of that bother you? Is it your contention that SA should have broken its own laws to spare the egos of some?
With the way the SA Government embarassed Nigeria during the arms saga i would be wary buying anything from them seriously
LTGEN: Two scenarios: 1) It is very likely the BIG foot came with a revised contract for spares after the BUHARI ADMIN came to power. 2) After the REVAS were bought and the continuous embarrassing scenarios between Nigeria and South Africa led to a cooling of anything procurement -wise with South Africa. It is actually pleasing to see that some significant PROCUREMENT between S'Africa and Nigeria has improved to the point of seeing a Trevelo ( spelling) in the hands of an NA. It is significant because the NA with regards to sniping has stuck to 3 main rifles 2 are from the US 1 is from RUSSIA.
Please do u have links that reported these missions?
Toju200: The day Nigeria army SF Rescued those NGO workers they didn't get this much attention o. But Navy Seals rescued one person held by Seven bandits now... The pages on this thread has sky rocketed, Even when Nigeria navy SBS rescued the fishing trawler and Transport Vessel not even in Nigeria Waters we no hear anything..
SMH. They'll tag me "Military fan" Lemme come and be going
A partnership with SA would do Nigeria (And Africa) a whole lot of good. If i was President i would pursue for this....Even their attack chopper i would offer partnership with them
You cannot teach anyone to be brave ...The person has to on his own teach himself/herself to conquer fear...What is taught at the military academy is discipline, tactics skills etc.....That Diya cried for Abacha does not mean he is a coward...You cannot judge a man by one incident in his life...i still stand by my initial post....As a leader u dont only teach u inspire ur subordinates
FieldMarshall06: Unfortunately you are very wrong. I am talking about Natural Qualities not about Skills.
People and animals can be trained to acquire Skills, not qualities.
For example, Gen Diya received the best military training and held commands in his 35yrs career; yet those did Not make him Brave. Faced with Abacha, he knelt down crying and begging. Major Orkar never did that, even when caught, Gen Ironsi too. So, Bravery is a quality and not a skill to be learned. Marksmanship is a skill not a quality. Combat proficiency can be learned, it is not a quality.
An animal e.g, a dog can acquire training in sniffing cocaine. Sniffing is a skill. But a sniffing Rottweiler would be different from a sniffing Labrador. They would both sniff, but a Rottweiler would be madder. That madness is an innate quality.
In Science and Engineering, Thermodynamics separates the quality of matter from it's attributes. That is the reason different elements/compounds have different chemical potential. Sodium and Silver are both metals and share many metallic properties; yet Sodium is very reactive and explosive while Silver is relatively inert. The difference is in their inner quality aka chemical potential which Scientists study in Statistical Mechanics and Quantum Field theory.
That internal quality in Science which we evaluate using the Gibbs function is the same in humans. Internal quality of people differ, no amount of training will change that. 1000 Diyas can never become 1 Orkar. They were both competent soldiers, but the difference is in the Inner man. My elders say Man pass Man. That's Fact.
Hope you have learned. You cannot change people. When you see certain traits, cut them off, like that yr5 bsuo.
If you cannot train an Ajebutter in 5 years to become a warrior then u need to sit down and take a look at your training regime...Everything rises and falls on Leadership
FieldMarshall06: Bro,, the silly cadet deserved to be withdrawn. And from all you have said so far, Gen. Sarham has done nothing bad. I am not an emotional analyst neither a saddist,,, but if dating is against the rules, why should a bsuo yr 5 cadet do it. At yr 5, you are almost an army officer. As bsuo, he holds a top spot and should show leadership, but he failed. He is not worthy of being an officer. At yr5, if you can risk your career for a woman, you would risk combat for pussy. He was a stupid cadet.
Some people might say the bsuo should face disciplinary action, but I diagree. He should get his degree and continue civilian life. Gen. Sarham is right on that one.
And from everything you have written here, I can confidently sense that the military is Not for you. So, I think Gen. Sarham is right to weed out aje- butter cadets, who would lead troops to death.
Satellite has a higher latency than ptp(which would be what they would use) With good radio's u'd get good latency 10ms or less
persius555: Multiple ground station control for UAV is not so effective because of high latency throughput on the several relay links. Multiple ground station could work well with satellite links as redundancy and handover mechanism for the UAV. Still expensive but can be done.
Tobiloba2407: I was even contributing on beegeagle as tim, I contributed some of the first sbs pictures, mentioned about navy jet ranger helicopter, and everyone said it was a lie, till pictures started coming out and other stuffs
GreenandGold: Tactical training @ TSU Training & TSU Protection (Private Paramilitary Company). The great thing about such (para military) training is that it's opened for every civilian.
ecomog1990: This is my last post too I hope my brother.
It's unfortunate that you think I mentioned ceramics but I dont know the meaning of composites which is just a general term used to define all types of - non metal only - armour alternatives like the ceramics I mentioned.
So disappointing that you are not smart enough to know that since I know ceramics, the market price, the met & mat use, the technical disadvantages, the armouring benefits, then at such level I know that ceramics is just one of many types of various composite material options..
Word ceramics as I used it, is how we abbreviate longer full term - ceramic composite armour - please correct your ignorance dear nemesis.
I plan current factory introduction of composite armour mix with Nigerian MRAP manufacturers, it's not pride, it's being happy to improve Nigerian Def Sec industry. We are Africans but don't assume we are ignorant and only Indians know composite usage ; DICON makes ballistic vests using Aramid Composite - we are coming up with ceramic composites and carbon fibre composites for vehicles kinetic threat armouring.
I would like to be your friend Sir. I am humbled by your expertise, humility and decorum
ecomog1990: Well, my question was how many? Only 1 or 2 ? Among so many MRAP types?
Aditya variants up to Yuktirat are all based on same Casspir that is one of the best in the world MRAPs, India imported and copied Casspir.
If they double Casspir IED spec, they have compromised another spec to gain that one.
Is Yuktirat a practical MRAP? Notice its called an MPV. Records no army uses it except maybe India that made it and got like 250 since 10 years ago while buying like 1,500 of others.
A source says its maximum speed is only 50 kmh, so what's the practical cruise/operational speed, 40 kmh?
Why build an MRAP that all tanks in the world drive much faster than it just to have 42 kg resistance under wheel? How does it keep up with other vehicles in army operations?
They also didn't reveal how many strikes gives 42kg wheels, because MRAPs with 24kg resistance for two strikes normally resist total of 48kg under wheel.
Its about science & tech, once you increase armour weight the speed will reduce proportionately, so MRAPs with 24kg max speed 90 kmh, now the 35kg belly 42 kg wheel has dropped maximum vehicle speed to 50 kmh, then that does not qualify as a proper MRAP, its rather an MPV - Mine Protected Vehicle, and that's what they named it.
How does it fit Ambush Protected - AP as in MR - AP, when under ambush attack it tries to escape at leas than 50 kmh with it's thin body hull armour resisting only 7.62mm Ball (body armour so much reduced to increase underbelly) and ordinary AK-47 with AP bullet will penetrate it?
Looks Mine Resistant but how is it Ambush Protected to meet normal MRAP function?
Other countries too will love MRAP resistance of even more like 50 kg under wheel but they all know the law of science, you double armour weight you half speed and you lose Ambush Protection of normal MRAPs minimum safe speed capacity.
Option of ceramics to save weight, means you increase cost price 3 times so 400k MRAP becomes 1.2 million, and too expensive to repair that vehicle is written off and lost out of inventory after only one IED blast.
++
Bro, JLTV ballistic data on IED & bullets is officially classified for now, any priviledged American who reveals the secret will likely go to jail for compromising US defence - national security
That was very unprofessional of the Soldier!!!! Soldiers here generally have a mentality that civilians are their slaves...that has to change. Soldiers are soldiers because they have choosen to serve the people. It is an unresponsible soldier that would mobilize State resources to go look for an unarmed civilian. What won't we hear in Nigeria....and people are celebrating this?
NewDelhi: Many of you don't know that king azubuike too well. His hatred for the army started last year when he had a heated argument with a soldier on another thread. (Forgotten his monicker but I will dig it up). The soldier happen to be a middle rank officer and promised Azubuike he was gonna look for him. Azubuike foolishly gave him his address and dared him to come with enough ammunition and men. Funny enough they came but and d soldier posted pictures on the thread as evidence but what later transpired we didn't get to know coz seun later deleted the thread after it seemed to be getting out of hand. He came back bragging about how he and his boys chased the soldiers away and gave them a run for their money but we don't even know the truth . It was a very serious case then in the crime section . Azubuike has always hated the army before then. After that incidence it got worse. He started his nuisance with this sister thread and later diverted here.
Hammering on the bolded.....Can't we get Western style armed drones from Turkey or the other Arab Country(can't remember there name now) or even Israel?
komekn: The admittance of FAILURE is the beginning of SUCCESS. The denial of FAILURE when there has been systemic failure will result in continous failure and the enthronment of mediocrity .
There is an issue of low expectations here. The same way we see our politicians they do nothing, indeed they are comprehensively inept, but we claim they are TRYING.
These incidents have become continous over the past years. Combatants abandoning equipment, thier positions in the face of Boko attack.
Instead of doing a proper post mortem and getting at the root of the problem we paint over the matter and say we are trying. Sorry it's not good enough.
With regards to the bold that's utter Balderdash.
There is a contingency plan, the UK has never fought a war on its soil for over a 100 years. But thier is a contingency plan for one.
There are fighter pilots stationed at multiple RAF bases on "High Alert" standby 24/7/365. At a moments notice within 3/4 minutes they are airborne and going at supersonic speed to intercept targets. There are regular drills to keep them up to scratch, there is no complacency.
On this platform we have hailed the NAF as being highly competent. But with what unit of comparative measurement, l don't know.
I made two assumptions first that we have some air assets ( fighter jets) in Maiduguri, do we ❓ The distance by road between Monguno and Maiduguri is about 85miles however "as the crow flies" and using nautical miles, it is a lot shorter.
With this in mind the NAF should be able to have target acquisition in Monguno within or less than 15 minutes. It is not difficult.
This has nothing to do with being an advanced country or not. It's about competence, organisational culture and effective management.
You claim we have very few operational aircraft. Then who decided to buy 12 aircraft that will take 6 years to complete the supply and three years before we get the first ones. I am sorry it is near deranged thinking.
Is the USA the only country that sells aircraft in the world.
The cost of two A29 will give us 50 Wing Loong II UAV today not in 6 years time. Do you know if you had those UAV Boko will be almost rendered impotent. That will give you complete situational awareness over the whole NE.
They UAV operates very silently not like a noisy turboprop, with a ceiling of over 30k feet. Once again l am talking about the HERE and very present NOW.
What I don't understand is how the NA in Monguno doesn't have any outposts to give them situational awareness. It's like they were asleep when Boko attacked.
But that not withstanding, Boko did not invade with 100 T72 tanks just in my estimation not more than 15/20 rickety gun trucks and combatants with light arms walking around like it's Sunday afternoon stroll.
The Vickers MBT is able on its own to completely halt the advance. It may be old but it's very capable, it's 105 mm gun is stabilised it can shoot on the move 100% accuracy any target under 2km. By the time just 4/5 of the gun trucks are decimated the rest will run away.
Finally, something many will not like to consider this but we should. Imagine there were Chadian soldiers in Monguno what do you think would have been thier response ❓
It would not affect LNG....only crude is affected....The gas industry is doing strong...LNG is waxing strong
kabe1: I'm talking about the energy industry in general, the potential effects of the Train 7 project, as a comparison for scale of losses if things continue to nose dive with the price of crude.
kabe1: Let me say something here, Nigerians need to be very, very, very worried that oil price is selling between $11 and $12 per barrel.
Before I left Nigeria, I worked in the Oil & Gas services sector. A drastic drop in crude oil price would exert a lot of pressure on ordinary Nigerians, let's not kid ourselves.
The highest salary earners as a group work in Nigeria's crude oil sector. When that group get paid at the end of the month, they spend on average higher than any other group of workers in Nigeria. Where do they spend that money?
Then you have oil services providers in Nigeria, they are in their thousands. If you look at Nipex for example, the number of oil servicing companies on that platform are more than 40,000.
NLNG Train 7, I read more than 3,000 vendors were verified.
If Crude continues to sell below $15, Companies would retrench workers, thousands of them.
If workers lose their jobs, they can no longer spend, they can no longer afford to pay rent, who suffers at the end of the day?
Low oil price is very bad for Nigerian citizens, as well as the government.
You can pass your comments without using foul language on our leaders. If someone uses similar language against the current what would you say? Suprised that everyone is keeping quiet to this
jpphilips: Quit the excuses, what happened to the Sea route? oops!!
Gen. Adeniyi, the gallant commander who led our troops in Operation Lafia Doyle & who appeared in a video that went viral 2 days ago complaining about the conditions that his troops were facing on the war front with BH was relieved of his appointment yesterday. What a pity!
FFK tweeted the above
blacKDalia: I salute the courage of the general on that video. He obviously knows the official channel /way to pass his message, but decided to record a video knowing it will get leaked. The military hierarchy is at present thinking and operating like the Russian military during the second World War, just pushing men to their death. In this war, no tactical or strategic goal, just a war of attrition and a war of "good to go, good to go", good to go where? To be used as cannon fodder? While generals sit in air conditioned offices thinking of the next racket. Na wa o.
