I disagree Sir.....The Army is already recieving modern AK's (Beryl M762) ...so what he is saying doesnt hold water....It's cheaper to arm the Army with the Beryl than the Tavor...Tavor for now should be exclusive for SPECOPS....not regular infantry...They already train with the AK so switching to the Beryl would be seamless
jteku: No country arms its military with one rifle, you don't expect a soldier posted to a generals house to be armed with a Tavor, those in battle field/peace keeping/special ops etc, are those that should be armed with such weapon and I guess thats what he's referring to.
Why did he not bring the new AK that was brought? I thought there was an agreement of phased withdrawal of the old AK for the new one's? Wants and needs!!! We cannot afford to arm all our soldiers with the Tavor....thats FACT!!!
jteku: Sometimes you guys talk as if you know more than the military, these guys have tested both weapons in battle and they say this is what they want, and you talk as if u've ever held an AK or Tavor, probably you read all about these guns on net.
Is that only what you can deduce from all i wrote?

Not impressed with his presentation....He wont say the name of the other rifle...what's his reason? As if Tavor is made in space....He lied that Russian Military uses Tavor...They have SF in Russia using the AK....He should have educated the people on the various types of AK...Some units operate the modern AK...why make it look like the AK is not a good weapon...The men just wasted 9 minutes of my time....I dont support that the Tavor be the primary weapon of our Infantry...We cant afford that now...
hahahahaha...I am Nigerian!!!! I know how to take care of myself!!!!
lionel4power: don't you realize that we don't love or envy other countries in this thread? the 'high Self-esteemed' Nigerian defense force gang would soon come for your head.
don't say I didn't warn you...
[Update] it appears that the 'high Self-esteemed' Nigerian defense force gang leader has gone on voluntary sabbatical leave.
That's your personal opinion...I dont think the Turks can win a war against the Algerians...whetehr by Air, Land or Sea!!!
Ibrahimanees: Then research more about Turkish Armed Forces. And Algeria? No offense to Algerians but Turkish military over Algeria any day any time bro.
I disagree with your statement that Turkey is at par with Israel....Algeria would have been a better alternative to compare Turkey...not Israel
Ibrahimanees: I can't help but notice your omission of China and Turkey in the list of most powerful militaries (and gays are not allowed). I reckon China more powerful than Israel and and Turkey is on par with Israel. And just because the so called powerful militaries allow gay to serve does not everybody have to do it. And serving gays do not make those militaries more powerful and gays not serving do not make Third World and Middle East countries "shithole"
Yeah...Just completed Episode 3 . Quite interesting. I suspect the interpreter is a mole
frumentius: Who here is watching "The Long Road Home"? I've read the book, and have downloaded the first 3 episodes but am wary as screen adaptations almost invariably fail to do justice to the book.
This is so lame.....Silence would have even been better
iblawi: I would have done just that but it's of no use. My intent was not to insult Igbos but their response could have made me do so. I just didn't want to turn this tread upside down. I referred to igbo politicians and not the entire Igbos.
What kind of stupid talk is this? What do you mean by Igbo men and dirty politics? Is dirty politics now exclusive to Igbo men?
iblawi: Everyone is laughing at them. Igbo men and dirty politics are 5&6. Zuma is of no use to them and he has done nothing to deserve such recognition.
lolllll....and you had to say something!!!!!....Let it be bro.....We are proud of the ARA...just skip past to other pics....or better still add some of yours...lol
jln115: No offence but we've seen these 2 photos......like 3 times a day, every day for like the last 3 weeks!! I get you're proud and all but really dude?? do we have to see the same photo 3 times a day??
Thanks Bruv.....So once the presence of AA is detected in the area the Tucano would either avoid the area or start gang banging from afar before entering the area...right?
tdayof: aa can affect anything flying. However these aircrafts will be working with our ISR platforms which would have detected any AA Around already.
Nigeria and South Africa can benefit a lot from each other if they learn to put their differences aside. We stand to gain a lot by working together rather than working against each other. Their must be mutual respect coming from all parties because each one has its own strengths and weaknesses.
jln115: Dude don't put words in my mouth, I never said MoU was useless!! Go read what I said then come back!
Secondly yes I knew long before manufacturing started that NN ordered two OPVs from China, there was an official announcement from both the supplier and your Navy long before manufacturing took place.......which in this case we still lack both!
It seem the Internet they now have uses UDP instead of TCP protocol and that why they couldn't go back to see a few things that happened while they were away.
Thats a veeery wrong Opinion bro.....Never underestimate your enemy...its a mistake you may never recover from
chkil0: its a thorny subject and out of the thread subject , so i will give only my opinion without Opening a debate ,
for me most important in case of war is the United state of america position ! without US ( Intervention, aerial bridge of weapons, soldiers and intelligence ... ) , without politic ect... , only talking about military , one on one , egyptian army alone will kick the a*s of little israel any time in a long full war . Israel can not endure a long open war that will exceed one month alone , thats my opinion
61mech: For some reason you seem to think I'm trying to insult the Nigerian Navy. I'm not. A am concerned about the guy and his boat crew. I'm a fellow African x-soldier and I don't want to see that guy get killed protecting his country , because he wasn't given the tools or the training to do his job properly.
That weapon is NOT going to function properly. If it looks like that from the outside the inside WILL be worse. I've inspected hundreds of machine guns and cannons and I can tell you a weapon should never get to that state even in the worst of circumstances. If you don't believe me ask any of the vets in this forum or anywhere else for that matter.
That's a CIS 50MG heavy machine gun it's not a AK. It has a complex dual feed system and any heavy MG needs to be tuned just right to work without having to re-cock it every 3 rounds. If his crew gets ambushed on a river and it doesn't function they are dead. River ambushes are no joke.
HMG's are designed to be field maintainable. Being out on a long patrol is no excuse. Rust does not appear overnight. All you need is a drum and some diesel to get the worst out of it. Then it's just a question of routine lubing.
That's not an excuse Henry. Someone didn't do his job here and that someone's CO also didn't do his job.
Henry240: There are over 5,000 creeks which require constant daily patrols. Not 50 or 500. The navy operates more than 600 riverine boats, it is not unusual that rust might affect a single gun out of over 600 units patrolling the AOR which includes 5,000 internal waterways. That's a single gun, which has unfortunately deteriorated due to salt.
I have seen front-line, active US navy ships with rusts on their equipment. Now, we are talking about the Nigerian navy which by a long shot is the most active in Africa. The damage on that single boat is not representative of the rest of the vessels in the navy's fleet.
I dont believe that the JF-17 is better than the F-16....dem no be mate
Henry240: The SU-34 is the world's best strike fighter, NAF missions are primarily strike missions. Strike/Interdiction missions form the core if all NAF attack missions.
We could do with an aircraft like the SU-34, we require multi-mission aircrafts. The Su-30 has never been a choice for me or the NAF. NAF's requirement is for a single engine multi-role fighter, our country is not that large. Hence the choice of the JF-17 Thunder.
The Alpha Jets are old, and they would be replaced soon enough.
The Super Tucano has so many advantages in a COIN or LICW threat environment. We need those planes, but not at the costs rumoured as been quoted.
JF-17 is way miles better than the F-16 from an NAF point of view. Hence we are going for them.
I agree with you to an extent....especially in Border patrol...we have porous borders and the Tucano can help in giving a layer of security...
Adminisher: The truth is that some systems aboard the latest Super Tucano are more sophisticated than JF17 and especially SU 30 MKI especially in the ground attack role.
If you look at systems alone, we are getting an aircraft we can use for almost anything ...And I am even adding disaster relief mapping, border patrol, emergency response, drought effect mapping, Fulani herdsmen trail mapping, crude oil spill mapping.
Everything we are getting and the platform will still be around in 25 years ...And it only costs $1000 to fly and can be on the air every day.
A lot of these other aircraft you mentioned are potent but will go to hospital for 5 days after flying for 10 hours.
Hi Patches, can you please explain why the US retired its fighter bomber fleet. From my little understanding it has to do with a change of warfare strategy
Patchesagain: Factual information is now pathetic?
Frankly, Henry120's constant lashing out at whomever corrects him is what is pathetic. If he doesnt want to be told he is wrong, he should not offer his opinion.
This should have been an issue that was contained in 2-3 posts. Him: I think this Me: Well no, because that Him: [either] O wow, I didnt know about that [or] I disagree because this,
Yeah....i support you on this...plus in the long run if proven succesfull it would release us from the dependence on whoever on the Tucano's
Patented: By all Means lets be a test bed, we were for the CH3. We could order a couple of units and still buy the Tucano. the benefit of the Mwari is greater in the sense that we get to learn a whole lot about air -craft design and production. The knowledge gained will be invaluable in future.
I believe we can reduce the cost of flying these sorties per hour
Henry240: Let me respond to this. I'll like to stay on topic and not talk about politics.
We flew 6777 hours of combat sorties in the first 10 months of 2016. Costing us billions in Naira. We could probably have flown more if we had an aircraft like the Tucano. The A-29 doesn't need you or i or anybody here to like it. It is a necessity, we need to be able to do more for less, taken into account our current threat environment.
This is not to say we don't need more modern 4 GEN fighters, we do and that is why we have an initial order for 3 x JF-17. This number is expected to rise to 18 at the very least.
We have been trying to procure the Tucano since 2014 without success, however we are talking about an aircraft which has the best combat record in a LICW environment. We would also get good financing from the US if we are to eventually get it from them. Until then, we have ordered 3 x Super-Tucanos from Brazil and could still get 3 x more while we wait for the US deal.
I'm confident we would not have problems with the Tucano because, if the US decides to slap us a sanction on the Turboprop we would simply fabricate the parts we need, no problem. We've done this with the 4 x Alpha Jets we procured from the US, we've weaponised 2 x MI-17 complete with FLIR, we have done this with both our MI-24 and MI-35 attack helicopters. If it is Avionics, we would build Avionics, we have done this with some of our Air Bettles, which the NAF turned into UAVs. We can also buy civilian parts for the Turboprop, or we go to Embrear in Brazil.
No issues.
We have set into motion our Military Industrial Complex, a significant amount of the equipment used to prosecute our Insurgency is locally made. We have put back into service 178 units of armour. The Nigeria of today is not the same Nigeria we had in the 80s.
So, I'm confident. We should endeavour to purchase the Super Tucano.
When will we on this forum outgrow these childish rants!!!!!! For goodness sake we are supposed to have one single enemy...the Islamic Jihadist.....and not one another. IMO Kenya needs Nigeria as much as Nigeria needs Kenya!! We can learn from each other...compare notes and become better for it. Lets stop bashing ourselves here....That goes for everyone including the South Africans!!! When i read about men like Eeben my hearts leaps with joy...cos it shows we have what it takes to solve all our security challenges...but this would only become possible if we learn to work together
Nok234: Look Kenya is a bitch being bleeped in every single Hole by US. You have no dignity, your soldiers are actors for al shabab propaganda videos. NIGERIAN ARMED FORCES SAVED MILLIONS OF LIVES, Killes thousand and thousand of muder Bleep, you guys are the GODS OF RETREAT, your top soldiers always being captured always crying they dont want to die ohhh some video almost make me cry, your armed forces cant even fight against Civilian Joint Task of Maiduguri. https://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=5DFaDg8KNhI
