Abagworo: New Orlu Stadium is named after Sam Okwaraji an Orlu native who died on the pitch while playing for Nigeria some decades ago.
Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji (19 May 1964 – 12 August 1989) was a professional footballer who played internationally for Nigeria. He was also a qualified lawyer who had a masters in international law from the University of Rome. He collapsed and died of congestive heart failure in the 77th minute of a World Cup qualification match against Angola at the Lagos National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos State on 12 August 1989.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_Okwaraji Gov Okorocha ought to have known: In govt official gazette, Sam Okwaraji Stadium is the Stadium in Orlu between Ihioma Road and Alhaji Tijani Street. The Stadium was commissioned by Nigeria's federal government led by President Obasanjo in May 2007; dedicated to and named after Sam Okwaraji, the late Nigerian footballer from Orlu. So, how come gov Okorocha is giving the name Sam Okwaraji, to the new stadium he is building in Orlu? |

But hopefully, the seats shall be covered with roofs, not with the nylon sheets I saw they were covered with last week when I was there. Let Okorocha govt complete Old Owerri road, Orlu; no matter his differences with Best Mbanasor. Mbanasor does not own the road. Thousands of people who voted Okorocha in 2011 use the road. Same with the road from International market pass St. Joseph Church Umuna to Imo poly campus; and road to Morning Star Girls secondary School Orlu from Amaigbo road. These roads his agents scrapped and abandoned since 2012 create lots of enmity against Okorocha in Orlu. |

Ofuzo: This is why you have state and national assemblies. Their job is to pass legislation that will improve the lots of their citizens. So, if you go back and reread my comments, you'd noticed where I said that the cities and small towns should be empowered to be self sufficient in most things. I also said that the present configuration of governments we have in nigeria should be reconfigured (restructuring). Without restructuring, it's practically impossible for nigerian cities to amount to anything. Currently, they are all shiitholes. The governor of imo state cannot sit in owerri and manage other cities in the state. This is exactly what I'm saying. It will never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever work.
Scroll back several pages of this forum to see what I've been saying. In developed countries, when localities reach certain population milestone, they are given city status. Mostly, city status empowers them to do certain things, like raise their own revenues, which is then used to pay their own police officers, pay for refuse disposal and other environmental issues, pay for teachers salaries, build their own roads and enforce cities codes and ordinances (regulations). They are also responsible for building codes, where certain areas of their cities are designated for certain types of development, unlike in nigeria where shacks are springing up all around residential areas.
In developed countries, some city mayors are as powerful as state governors. In the US, city mayors of san francisco, los angeles, new york, chicago, dallas, houston etc are larger than life characters. Some of their city budgets are in the billions of dollars. Washington DC with a population of less than 700,000 has a budget of more than 4 billion dollars. Ref: your correct statement that in developed countries, a town reaches a certain population and gets designated as CITY, takes care of itself. It's more or less the same system in Nigeria. in Imo state, it's over 30 years that Owerri, Orlu Okigwe and Oguta were officially designated the Urban towns of Imo state, and are supposed to be treated such. ,But politicians of the zone of Imo state capital blackmail every new governor to first develop Owerri state capital to what they say international standard, before other towns can be attended to by future governors.. They sell the FALSEHOOD to largely barely semi-literate Imolites that all over the world, state capitals are first developed by government - TOTAL FALSEHOOD. Towns develop with what they have or allocation they get from wherever source. These Owerri politicians and later day roguish governors tactically reduce Orlu, Okigwe and Oguta to rural area status. This thing started since Abia state was cut out from old Imo state. A governor who is not careful, or a clowning governor, easily falls victim of this design by Owerri politicians, and loses out at last politically. Ohakim and Okorocha were victims of this. No body can ever have any reason to back a state governor who collects the federal allocations of Orlu LGA to build on Owerri LGA. Okorocha did this for eight years. Orlu stinks. |

Even during Mbakwe's administration, Aba, Orlu and Umuahia were the three officially recognized industrial hubs of then Imo state. Owerri was mere administrative post it has been before then. Owerri, Orlu, Oguta and Okigwe have been the officially designated urban towns of present Imo state, even before Rochas Okorocha started school. Mbakwe built industries in all the 21 LGAs of Imo state, slated surface water supply systems for the five zones -- all these for uniform development of Imo state. Mbakwe left, rogue elements took over Imo state , started to locate every govt project in Owerri, limit development to Owerri, and pocket the money that should have gone for the development of rest of Imo state. Udenwa who tried to change things for good of entire Imo state was hated to the bone marrow by the rogue elements. Note that the money you receive is all you will be paid in the 4 years the candidate will be in office. He has paid you in advance for 4 years service.
365 dys x 4 yrs = 1460 days.
1. You receive #5,000 ? OK #5,000➗1460 = N3 per day.
= That is the value of the vote you sold, over 4 years.
2. U receive #1000..?Ok, now 1000➗1460 = 68 kobo per day.
3. You receive #500..? 500 ➗1460 = 34 kobo per day
3. You receive #200 to vote..? See 200➗1460 = 13 kobo per day..!!
The question is how much do you value yourself..?
Is that what you are worth..? They have bought your silence so that they and their children can live well. Can you live on 13 kobo per day or even 68 kobo per day? Tom Tom sweet is 10 naira think twice before u decide. God bless Nigeria.

Politics › Re: Why Buhari Didn’t Ask Voters To Back APC Candidates In Imo — Presidency by kikake: 10:59am On Jan 31, 2019 |
Peezol: The Presidency on Wednesday gave reasons why President Muhammadu Buhari did not seek support for the All Progressives Congress candidates during the party’s rally held in Owerri, Imo State, on Tuesday.
It said the President addressed a mixed crowd of voters across political parties, who were united in endorsing his re-election, despite having their local candidates for other positions.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, while speaking to journalists, explained that in such a mixed crowd, the President could not speak of support for the APC candidates alone but must talk about all the parties.
Shehu noted that this did not mean that the President did not want the APC candidates to win elections in Imo State, saying that Buhari was solidly behind his party’s candidates.
“The massive crowd that gathered to welcome President Buhari in Imo State was made up of not only supporters of the APC in the state, but also supporters of other parties who are united by their love for the President and their desire to see him re-elected, despite the local candidates they support,” Shehu told reporters. The Presidency added that in the circumstances he found himself in Imo, the President could only advise the people who turned out to receive him to vote according to their conscience.
“While President Buhari is fully behind the APC, he welcomes endorsements from those who do not belong to the ruling party but is also sensitive to their support for non-APC candidates at the local level.
“It would have been insensitive of him to offend his non-APC supporters by ignoring their local affiliations,” Shehu stated.
He said by raising the hand of Senator Hope Uzodinma, the APC governorship candidate in Imo State, at the rally, Buhari had shown where his preference was and this did not call for a debate.
Shehu added, “President Buhari is for the APC in every state and there is no doubt about that, despite the immense cross-party support he is enjoying.”
Recall that while addressing the rally, Buhari did not mince word in urging the crowd to “vote for candidates of your choice across parties” to the chagrin of the APC members. The people reacted by cheering and clapping for the President.
Governor Rochas Okorocha, who does not support Uzodinma’s governorship bid, joined in the cheering.
When the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, realised the President’s error, he was seen trying to whisper to Buhari to make a correction.
The President then responded by telling the crowd again to vote for the APC candidates. There is a big crack in the Imo APC, threatening its electoral fortunes next month.
While Okorocha wanted his son in-law, Uche Nwosu, to be the APC governorship candidate, the National Working Committee of the party endorsed the primaries conducted by the Uzodinma faction.
In December 2018, Nwosu, with the support of Okorocha, defected to the Action Alliance and became the party’s governorship candidate.
However, both the Okorocha group and the Uzodinma faction said they would vote for Buhari on February 16.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/punchng.com/why-buhari-didnt-ask-voters-to-back-apc-candidates-in-imo-presidency/amp/ Lies from the pit of hell. In Imo state, President Buhari had only two crowds made up of: 1) crowd mainly of Owerri boys which wants Third term for Okorocha by proxy of his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu; 2) larger crowd of APC which supports the APC candidates led by Hope Uzodima in Imo state. |
