@ princek12

I watched your youtube link and  it further proves there is nothing devilish about voodoo, I mean, boy goes mad, voodoo priest who is also a business man by day diagnosed his problem and attempted to cure him through his faith and beliefs, what is evil or devilish in that?? please do tell.    even the spirit that was allegedly speaking through the voodoo priest was scolding the boys father for not taking care of him and making the necessary sacrifices required by his religion.

The retributive God that Pat Robertson claims he serves clearly does the same thing -punishes the sins of some people on thousands of innocent children. how is that different? BTW I do not see the human blood-drinking sacrifices you voodoo haters always scream about.

I see no difference between the voodoo priest's failed attempt to cure a mentally disturbed boy and the same spiritual "incantations" and attempts that goes on in our churches everyday -where pastors try to heal sick folks, is that evil also? These people need to be taken to an hospital or doctor period!

Reason needs to triumph over stupid religious emotions and silly fanaticism both in Haiti, Nigeria and at Pat Robertsons Church. Let's not give a dog a bad name just because we want to kill it -voodoo religion has not exhibited any evil that is verifiable through what you provided. I do not see the evil you are so sure of, and I'm still looking for the evidence that shows how the practice of voodoo "espouses and sanctions hate, murder, and any other heinous acts" I mean are we still talking about voodoo or some terrorist folks undecided

Your claim that Abeokuta is not progressive because of voodoo is unfortunate indeed.  I doubt if you know anything about the history of Abeokuta, or the importance of that city-state not just in Yoruba/Nigerian history but to the history of black folks worldwide. Same Abeokuta that gave us the first Nobel laureate from Black Africa?(Soyinka, BTW is not a Christian apologist to say the least) plus the Kutis?

I hold brief for no religion,  but I detest this continuous attempt to discredit one religion while accommodating the same silly practices in another, the earlier we Africans raise reason above emotions, the better for us.

Ignorance and mental laziness is the problem my people, unfortuntely, too many folks are dying and the young ones are still being indoctrinated into this dangerous cultural-religious stupidity.

I don't believe that breaking this country into splinters will solve this problem though, but we might need to start the process of weeding out those who just won't use their mind all across the country. One day.

ilosiwaju,9jaganja, airdig et al. . .

first thing first. pat didn't say the earthquake was a punishment from God.  he referred to a historical event and commented why haiti is cursed.  the holy bible says stand boldly and that's what pat did. pat said what needed to be said (2 Chronicles 7:14). when the haitians devil worshippers turn from their wicked ways God will heal the land.

to those wondering why the believers died with the non believers: -  many times those who have a relationship with God suffer for the action of the wicked folks (I am sure you have thought the same of your life sometimes when nothing seems to be going right. . .right? )  however, what we fail to realize as humans is that death is more serious to us than it is to God.  the Lord God knows what is on the other side for the believers but to us who are left behind, death is very painful and heart broken.

God could have stopped the earthquake because He is in control but like i said before God allows certain things to happen. He is a forgiving God, a jealous God and a God of compassion BUT He is also capable of judging the believers and the non believers.  The people of haiti (not all) are very dark hearted (deep deep into voodoo and witchcraft). . . more than most african countries if not all.  The earthquake is an eye opener for them.  They need Jesus just like you and me and they need it ASAP.

BTW, pat and his organizations have donated money and are in haiti with relief and help for the suffering.  How many of us have donated?
Pat didn't have to say those words exactly, but the implication is unambiguous "they signed a pact with the devil" and since then they've lived in misery?

But was there anytime those Black African slaves in Haiti ever lived without misery while under the French? before the alleged pact?

Pick up a book, or even a dictionary and check the meaning of "chattel slavery" then tell us how that is not misery.

Pat Robertson referred to a myth, not a verified historical event, he then said " true story" the "Man of God" lied! history should be based on verified facts.

That mythical pact which allegedly took place at Bois-Caïman near Cap-Haïtien in 1791, No one has been able to verify it(except Pat Robertson who was there with the devil when he signed the agreement). Some Historians believe it is a lie from the French to justify their decades of blockade even after they were roundly defeated by those Brave people. What we know for sure though is that those "rag tag" band of African slaves fought and defeated arguably the Strongest colonial military in the world at that time. As a Black African, I'm proud of them. and You should be too. Regardless of their present poverty or how useless their leaders are.   Go and Read history.  Be a truth seeker.

I know Sanctimonious Christians think they are bold, Sanctimonious pharisees were very bold too.

Haitian Devil worshipers?? it that because they sacrifice Goats and Chickens to atone for sins and seek favour? is that all? or do you have some other evidence?

Now, do you know anything about Voodoo? have you practiced it before or what? that religion abhors the Devil as much as Christianity, read up on it at your local library or at least use Google for Christ sake! Even our own African religions at abhors the devil or Eshu(as the Yorubas call it). but No, Haitians worship the devil. Some even claim Haitians practice Satanism (an European belief and concept alien to most African religions) read up people.

Africans! Black people! kai, we don allow Oyinbos to damage our mentality finish. Mind you, they will hardly be caught calling their own Zeus, or other European mythological figures, worship and sacrifice stories evil. Even Jesus Christ was sacrificed by his Father to atone for sins. is that evil too? wink

BTW, even if they worship the devil as you said, I really don't think the Devil rewards his followers with lives of poverty(80%) and misery on earth though, maybe in hell, but on earth? I really doubt it, that's my understanding of Christian concepts, except if we only listen to those who are obsessed with worldy prosperity preaching. Now, I may be wrong, but in my own society, Nigeria, those who steal public money(something I consider evil) live wealthy, long lives. grin

You said "the people of haiti (not all) are very dark hearted (deep deep into voodoo and witchcraft. . . more than most african countries if not all"  there you go again equating Voodoo with witchcraft? I don't have to type any further response to that since you can obviously see into the "dark hearts" of others, then you must know what I'm thinking right now.

How many of us have donated? I think you will know if I have donated or not but I read that many people have donated, have you? smiley

ROTFLMBAO

Africans oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Isn't it from Africa that the Haitians got their voodoo but according to you guys they don do am pass una. Haitians are mostly Christians. Who is Pat Robertson. He is not God and he needs to get down on his knees and ask God to bridle his tongue. He has no right. Can you guys just take away the fanatism and use your brains for one second. That fault line was their before the Hatians arrived. When the french were there they also had very powerful earthquakes so this is nothing new. Even if the Haitians made this so called pact who was there and who signed it. Mscheeeeew. The white people came there and preached Jesus to them all the while enslaving them. If Mr Robertson was a man of God he would have talked about how these people despite being enslaved by the same people that they heard God's word from, embraced and accepted him. That in itself is a miracle.
While the whole of Nigeria was frantically tuning in to watch 700 club every day, Pat Robertson was rubbing shoulders with the likes of mobutu sese seko. Hypocrites. There will definitely be surprises in heaven.

In fact that even makes me hurt for them more because despite being surrounded by dead bodies and some of them with limbs that were rotting they showed them on tv eyes raised to heaven in worship to the same God that these people claim brought this upon them.
My fear is that only few will read your post, think and understand, the religious fanatics will still hang on to their misguided sense of history and religion. I weep for black Africa.

@0hsisi,

Stop blaming Pat Robertson!? Pat Robertson is the one doing the blaming. and who told you that Voodoo is devilish? If you don't believe in their religion, fine! you don't have to label it as evil.
Voodoo believers even pray and do sacrifices to ward off what Christians call Satan or devil just as Christians and Muslims do in their own way. You work with Haitians who threaten you with voodoo, and so what? If you are a Christian or Muslim and I'll go out on a limb here and assume you are one of the two, then you must have prayed to your God for protection before or even "threatened" people with your prayers and ask your God to fight on your behalf, most "Good" Christians do that everyday, some are screaming that God should kill their enemies now as we speak. Even Pat Robertson prays to his God to protect him against his enemies. I will be shocked if you don't. So, does that make you or your religion evil? what makes their's evil and yours Good? You call Earthquakes and hurricanes curses? in 2010? grin I guess that explains everything.

ruffrider:
A lot of haiti's people believe in witchcraft.  I was roommates with some friend that are from Haiti and we had a fight.  They said that their were going to get their family to perform Witchcraft on me.  I hurried up and move the hell out of there.  I heard they practice that stuff heavy. If that is the case, then punishment will come from God, BUT I don't THINK this is God's way of punishing them, I hope not.
My sister, I understand the sentiment, but if you take some time to think about it, you will observe there is little or no difference between Christians who go to church to pray down fire, thunder and death on their perceived enemies and your friend who clearly wanted to use his/her own belief to harm a perceived enemy. it's the same!

We need to be objective and mindful of human history, religion is what it is. a means for you to find meaning and answers through your beliefs there is no evil in voodoo or any African religion that cannot be found among Christians or Muslims and those who misuse them.

let's stop allowing other people to analyze our existence for us. There are those who practice these so called "evil African religions" to better their own lives just as you practice yours for the same purposes, I guess only those who can think on their own will understand, God help us all

In fact every single church building in the area collapsed with plenty of 'faithfuls' in it.  i will vouch anyday for the blood of goat or swine than that of a dead god guy who could not even save himself from the cross
sammyzacks:
On 6/18/2003 at 1316hrs., Rev. Hansen received this prophecy:
"Haiti: a land drenched in the blood of goats, and sheep, and chickens, and pigs. Yes, the blood offered to please the gods of hell will not save you for what is coming upon your land. Only my precious blood from my Son Jesus can protect you from the wrath coming in the future.

Yes, blood is coming and only my blood can spare your soul from the justice that is coming against the gods of hell. You worship other gods and spirits, but 'I AM that I AM Jesus Christ' is returning to judge the nations and returning to judge Haiti.
Yes, your leadership, whose bodies have been baptized in the blood of animals (pigs and goats etc.), will not help you now. The gods and spirits from other lands far away across the oceans will not help you now, for I am coming back to judge all. Thus saith the Word and the Spirit of the only God that lives, Jesus Christ."

http://www.worldministries.org/haiti.html
, So what? 80% of Haitians are Christians, but they still died from the Earthquake!!! why didn't they get saved from suffering and poverty or is the Christian God like Osama bid Laden who kills both his enemy and the innocents(plus Muslims) just to prove his point? l mean, what is wrong with voodoo? and the blood of goats and animals? at least they didn't go on a crusade to kill other human beings or enslave Millions for centuries while claiming they serve a better, more merciful God. The Voodoo God's were the same God's that your African ancestors worshipped and bowed to before the white man came, and they had bountiful harvest, fed their families, raise their children and lived till old age.

so are you better off now since you met the Whiteman's God? is Africa better since Christianity came? Pat Robertson is a Racist hiding behind Jesus Christ, he obviously thinks voodoo is evil because it is an African religion, the same condescending lie his ancestors told mine when they got here centuries ago. It is sad that most of those who watch his CBN and 700 club programs in Nigeria do not realize that, but why would they? everything the white man brings must be right.

@ All,
David and the other guys bringing up the issue of race, bad leadership E.T.C are right. and I'll add that the time is perfectly fine to raise such issues. It may be uncomfortable but it is necessary IMO.

Black Africans, We need to examine ourselves, ask those questions and seek for answers. BUT that shouldn't stop anyone from donating to help Haitians. Go to yele.org or Redcross and offer what you have. but keep talking, keep asking. keep thinking, we need to find solution to these problems. another earthquake, hungerache and poverty ache is coming soon and black people are still selling themselves short.

Some fools are stealing money meant for hospitals, schools and roads in Nigeria as I type. Donating to help while asking why Black people are so messed up shouldn't be mutually exclusive.

As much as I disagree with Onwan using diatribes on the personalities of Falana and Soyinka and contributors of Nairaland I am in agreement with him when he wrote about their (Soyinka and Falana) motives. Falana made so much money working for Ribadu as EFCC lawyer at the instance of the then AG federation. Lack of patronage from Aondoakaa hence the hatred for the new AG (while not holding brief for Aondoakaa , Am no fan of ANY public servant in office since Obj to date). Soyinka know how past protests in Nigeria had not given desired results I want to believe that Tpia and I share in the patriotism of Monkeyleg, Gbawe, Londoner, Edoya and others who yearn for a better Nigeria but will agree that having these protests in London, Australia and New York will not change a bit of the ugly Nigeria situation I can only imagine how much of donor agencies’ funds has gone to private pockets, What we need is either a proper electoral reform. We should expend more energy in pushing these electoral reforms that will give us desired leaders those in the civil society know this very well and we have been lobbying for this and results are trickling in gradually (effective election will give desired leaders) only then will we weed out the “comedians” who parade themselves as distinguished and honourable weaklings. If we indeed have a virile national assembly Yar a Dua would have been impeached long ago or we wrestle the leadership through what beaf referred to as a ‘Sovereign National Conference’.
I agree. and may I add that it is also Ok that Falana and Soyinka are out there protesting, and to those who only fight on NL and Facebook, keep doing what you are doing. we need everyones input.

Too many regular folks have been silent in this country for too long. We need more people to talk and speak out about the situation in Nigeria, I do not care if you do it on FB, NL or at your Omugwo. Our country and society needs more of us looking out for all of our own interests. The fear of Mutually Assured "Poke nosing" is a good deterrent :-). Too much Power has been concentrated in the hands of too few people for too long in our society and culture. So speak, write, protest, contest in an election or be an internet warrior, I do not care, just do something.

If a Nigerian guy grabs your hand publicly just tell him stop, a sensible one will stop. but to start eeewing touching as if those in Naija grew up in Boston or Chicago is totally unfair to them. African culture for the most part do not see polite physical touching as a social no no, we touch people to get their attention here. Maybe because I grew up when IBB and Abacha were still the Ich in this country, but I do not share this enthusiasim about the Nigerian military.
