Wifey’s 07 Lexus es350 landed in February and was serviced with mobil1 5w30 extended performance oil high mileage oil. The one that guarantees 15k miles.
I also used original oil filter.

Car is currently at 4.5k miles after servicing. Should I service again cos it’s already been 8 months since the last service?

I do not know if there is a thread for this already. I am unable to make up my mind on which to go for. A 2015 Chevrolet Camaro or a 2015 Dodge Challenger.

I would like to know what you think especially for those with experience on one or both cars.

The car is not going to be a daily drive, more like a once a week car to drive around within town to events, visits etc. I am more concerned about:

1. Maintenance cost
2. Ease of getting original parts
3. Qualified mechanics in Port Harcourt

I am usually very careful when driving so speed and performance does not really matter as long as the car moves well with no faults and break downs.

I took the car to a repair guy, he said it is normal for battery light to show on a 2003-2007 corolla. But when the light shows when the engine has started, that is surely a charging problem. He checked the alternator, removed the battery head (negative terminal) while the car was on and told me everything is fine. I'm thinking of taking the car for scanning.

You need to change that technician.

You also need a technician with a digital mulitmeter to test the battery voltage, while the car is not running, and also to test the voltage while the engine is running with battery terminals connected and also with battery terminals disconnected while the car engine still runs.


When the engine isn't running, battery voltage should be around 12-12.x volts, but when car is running, you should have around no less than 14v and no more than 14.6v at extreme case.

Should you get any readings higher or less than that while engine is running, pls find the culprit and replace it.

most Short RAM air intake do produce some sounds, but may cause a dip on fuel economy. That said, this your intake filter is really dirty. I'd suggest you check if it's the reusable type.

FYI, if you're only draining and refilling, pls the right quantity of fluids lexus/toyota recommends is 2.5L and no more and its a very stringent process involved in doing this.

For a 2007 ES350 is prone to transmissions failure and I feel it's what's happening to yours also.

My Es 350 2007 doesn't engage when on REVERSE and the Drive wasn't smooth. This happened very close to my house and the car has been parked since yesterday. Gear oil has never been changed. It was in response to someone who feel some cars are expensive because transporters use them without asking why transporters favour them over others in the first instance. The only negative comments you will see, are peeps who have never owned the corolla for up to a year.

I have over 50clients who own corollas , and I can tell you one thing about that vehicle , The clean ones in very good shape nah bad market for mechanics. They only come in for oil changes. The vehicles light weight keeps the suspension fault free for a very long long time on our bad roads. It's ground clearance is ideal and keeps the exhaust and other under body parts from scraping the ground, The electronics are very basic, no complex stuff, the Engine and transmission are superb. Engine design has a maintenance free timing chain system that will exceed 299,999miles without any issues , transmission needs no special routine work, just basic oil drains every ~50k miles.


Summary it's maintenance is extremely insignificant and pocket friendly.

Perfect summary!

Oh one more thing, that torque band in the car will make it embarrass some V6. Trust me, it moves and its very stable and planted firm on the road when on speeds.

The toyota hilux vs cheaper honda ridgeline. The Oga patapata of them all is the toyota hiace aka hummer bus, it's obvious that one dey use jazz[/s]. All these vehicles became preferred choice for transporters because they have a strong dibia who do jazz for them. If you check the records too you will realize they also sold in large volumes in their country of origin when new, one wonders why that is so. I guess the buyers have prophets who foresaw Nigerians will rush the cars like dodo in later years.

Next time ask owners and transporters before commenting rather hurriedly and uninformed.

Does the gx handle better than the highlander? Is the interior more luxurious?

It's a proper offroad truck, while it's more luxurious and better built than the highlander, it can't ride as composed as the highlander. Though, you'd be fine driving it. It's actually better suited for Nigerian terrain.

I know they’re v6 and v8 respectively, is the fuel consumption of the gx470 significantly different from the v6 highlander?

The Lexus is my first choice but I’m a bit concerned cos of the v8 engine. Never used one before and I enter traffic a lot. I have no issues with the v6 consumption

GX470 do not consume much fuel as erroneously thought by lots of folks. It's a better built truck, parts are available and command similar price as the 08/10 highlander.

Though, due to the age range of the units you're looking at, and neatness, the resale value may be around 2-3.5m compared to highlander's 3-4m resale value.
