CaveAdullam:
1. To be sincere, Nigerian graduates are paper tigers. We all want to earn 1million+ income but we've not asked ourselves what skills we have? What value are we bringing to a company that will make them scratch their tooth and nails just to pay that sum of money as a salary?

2. Though the academic system now operating in the world is skewing to the left, and the wrong side, not tending to make students and individuals become familiar with skills and knowledge necessary for real-world application and survival. The system just paints something that looks good but lacks vitality and can neither improve the individual nor society.

3. Why do many graduates fall head over heels for this vacuous academic system? In yesteryear the few people who pursued academics were successful, and they were successful because the system was capable of accommodating their intellectual ability and curiosity. That's why it was rewarding.

4. But the people stampeding the gates of universities and colleges around the world today lack curiosity and the intelligence necessary to illuminate the paths they seek. What they are all pursuing is the final result - high income, forgetting that high income is the resultant effect of skills, knowledge, intelligence, and deep curiosity.

5. The people that succeed in academics, not those with first-class degrees are those who had that intelligence and curiosity before alleviating it with academics. That's why it's only a few professionals of many "professionals" that can make waves in their various fields. It is these sets of professionals that give value to an academic degree and results that equal their fame and high income; and which stimulates the masses to pursue academics while they are being oblivious to the necessary work involved in achieving a good result.

6. Tunde is ashamed of his handwork because his friend, Yusuf has a university degree. He abandons his handwork he is well equipped with the right knowledge for a university that he is incapable of performing up to average. At the end of the day, he struggles with his academics till he graduates, and when he enters the labor market he becomes frustrated and hopeless.

7. Many do see academics as an escape route from the harsh reality of life, and an easy way to a good income and that's why they become more frustrated when they don't have a job or when they face the harsh reality of office politics.

8. Where do most of them land when they don't get their aspired dream job? They land on the apprenticeship they refuse to follow from the beginning which they were more built and suited for.

9. Since everyone is in rush for money, it is better to start chasing it from the beginning rather than look for an easy escape mode through academics that they are not built for, coupled with the fact that academics has been eroded with many of its values. And this is only possible by engaging in profitable skills and scalable trades.

Thanks.

Or in another way, most of humans are not self reliant.
Very very very few percentage of humans are self reliant.
Reason why you will see people running away from Nigeria because no free education/school, no free health care and no free handout at old age.
They run away from Nigeria just to rely on the government of the west. Hardly self reliant.
The ones at home are hoping to bank and count on their children to support them at old age.
Either way, whether 3rd world or 1st world, it is either they are relying on government or children and that is bad enough.
Outsourcing your existence at the mercy of others
Thank you for this. I realize that I have been implicitly outsourcing many parts of my life. With what you wrote I intend to seriously think about it and truly take a stronger hold of my life.

DAY 39 COMPLETED

I failed to twitter. I should have never logged in. I went a month and 9 days without porn, sex, nor masturbation. This is very far from my objective.
Overcoming one's lust is just so hard. I have immense respect for those who reach 1 year on this journey. I am disappointed by my performance.

And what about Ukrainian men? Most of them had to face the merciless Russian army whole their female counterparts are being f*cked all over the world. When the war ends, they'll make documentaries about how women are most affected. Enough is enough.

DAY31 COMPLETED

A full month without porn, sex, or masturbation. It was not easy, but I reached this checkpoint. The next one is at 3 months.

I love being on a journey towards strength. I don't want to aimlessly release my sexual energy and deplete myself.
I feel urges everyday but I resist just like Guts fights the demons every night.
It is a lonely and painful path. I could just decide to be like my past depleted self and go through the humiliation of watching another man having intercourse. I can just say "Well everybody does it, so why not go ahead?" But no! I am not everybody. I am me, grandson of *****, and great grandson of *****. As such, I cannot accept weakness as my default state.

I want to become strong. I can become strong. Three hundred and thirty four more steps to climb.

This journey toward strength is exhilarating. What kind of man will I be after going a full year without porn, masturbation, sex? What kind of man will I be after going victorious out such a hard fight? What will be my approach to my life? How will I move in the world?

I can't wait to reach these levels
RomanceRe: The Journey Of A Monk by Kipaji(op): 11:52am On Aug 31, 2023

It's so easy to be weak.
I can just go ahead and watch porn and masturbate. I can just go ahead and have sex. Nobody is controlling me. Nobody is watching me. Nobody would sanction me. It is all about me and me alone. Do I want to be weak? Do I want to be like all these guys who live for vaginas? Do I want to be controlled by lust? Do I want to be exploited by women who use men's lust to their advantage? No. That will not be me. I keep going.
I want to know what it is like to be a man above his lustful desires. Like a saiyan dreaming of what being Super Saiyan would be like. I want to know that level of strength. As days go on, the higher gravity levels. I am not falling.

I humbly come for help and advice as the new semester has begun.

I am a STEM major. When I study, I get mentally fatigued quite quick. It seems that I can't self-study more than 2.5 hours a day. After that, my mind is not there anymore, like my brain is saturated and not as active.

Please, what do you do to study longer (and better)? What do you think can help me increase my fatigue threshold and avoid burnout.

Thank you in advance.

For black Africa to be rich or at least middle class, we need to receive investments and have our goods access wealthier markets. That is what the US did with Japan after the nuclear bombing, South Korea after the disintegration, Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan. Those countries got massive investments from Western companies and technical know-how. In return, they rose from the poverty stage to wealth. The same applied to China during the late '80s. A nation cannot be rich by selling goods to poorer countries. A hotel in Ikeja GRA will generate more revenues than another in Ojo simply because visitors/guests within the GRA axis have more money than those in Ojo. Also, countries like Brazil, South Korea, Japan and many African countries got richer as China grew. Western countries benefitted from low inflation because there was a China that manufactured anything at the lowest prices. Western companies also benefitted from a huge market where they sold goods and services. Everyone benefitted.

Now, the Chinese are ascending to higher levels and the West feels threatened and is clamping down on her growth. OK, their interest. So, where next are the world's manufacturing hubs they are targeting? South Asia (India) and South East Asia. But these places are a distance away from Europe and the United States. The most logical would be to do the same in black Africa to serve the same purpose as China. The other day, I read German businesses went to Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam to seek partners to produce goods for the EU market. For crying out loud, is Malaysia closer to Germany than Senegal? Kenya? Tanzania?

Investing in certain countries to make them rich is good for the investor because when those people invested in become rich, they purchase the goods and patronise the services of the investor. That is how it happened with the Chinese and the West. The West invested, and today Chinese purchase lots of Mercedes-Benz, LVMH, Tesla, BASF chemicals, Airbus etc. The same applies to Thailand, Malaysia and South Korea, where the Japanese invested, and those countries are major trading partners of Japan today by buying Japanese goods and patronising Japanese' companies' services. The same thing is what the Chinese tried replicating in Africa - invest there and ensure they become rich. In return, they will purchase goods from China when they become wealthy.

The question now is, why didn't the West think of the same, considering we have a 500+ year history compared to the Chinese?
Thank you for the thorough abswer Gerrard. I am learning a lot on this forum. Thanks to everybody.

Now, I will touch on your last question

The question now is, why didn't the West think of the same, considering we have a 500+ year history compared to the Chinese?
Clearly, they did not want Africa to rise from poverty.

A few months ago I wondered why South Korea became such an advanced and innovative country while Africann countries are still so far behind, given that they were about equally poor in the period of their respective independence. I discovered that a major factor was that the West did not behave in Korea the same way it behaved in Africa.

The West had an interest in Soutb Korea's growth. In the 50s, North Korea the communist part of Korea, was doing better than South Korea, the capital part. This situation was critical as we were in the cold war and some countries were still dithering about whether they should join the capitalists or the communists. Having the communist version of Korea doing better than the capitalist version was bad image. So, the West wanted SK to develop to show how much better capitalism is compared to communism.

In Africa, all they wanted were resources. The so-called development projects such as roads and other infrastructures they made were mostly to facilitate the extraction and transport of resources. They did not undertook project with the aim of Africans becoming richer.

Gerrard59:
While I agree that the US economy is doing very fine compared to her peers, I don't see her dominating the world for the next century as she has for the past century. One is the rise of China and other emerging powers like India and Indonesia. While both I countries are not like China economically, their population and growth of economies mean they would grow clout and demand a greater share in global affairs. Every country outside the West witnesses how China is bullied unjustly and falsely simply because she decides to prosper. The same fate awaits India and Indonesia; I wager they are preparing for it. The US and her allies would have to share global prominence. A unipolar world cannot continue to exist.

Europe's population (America's greatest ally) and, in fact, all of America's allies have rapidly declining birth rates which affect GDP growth, consumption and investment. They use immigration to offset this problem, but in reality, immigration does not solve the birth decline. It only solves population crises. For instance, in the '90s, Germany imported Turks to work in factories and bolster the workforce. Today, the same Germany is inviting immigrants, mostly from Arabian countries, to replace ageing workers. Additionally, Europe's immigration problems are social in nature. Even though I am an immigrant where I am, I don't believe in an open-door immigration system as the Europeans do, especially from cultures which are in stark difference from the native ones. So Europe, like Japan and Korea, would face severe demographic problems. However, Europe's own would be worse because the migrants have distinctive cultures, and Europe is abut to the world's poorest continent.

In some ways, I see it as karma after all the Europeans divided Africa for their spoils. So, they should benefit from the current invasion just as they did to Africa. Also, since they have blatantly refused to appropriately aid Africa's industrialisation just as they did with East Asia and now with South East Asia, anything they see, they should take it like that.
Gerrard, could you expatiate on the emboldened point please?

Don't you wonder why they borrow at all if they can print money as you suggest?

Still, there may come a time when their printed money is not worth the paper it's written on and creditors ask for more in interest to hold it, is a point you are not considering. Inflation too might erode it's value making it less worth holding.

Here's an opinion on it.

Also note that the British pound was the major reserve currency until World War II, so there's nothing to say America's status of reserve currency would last forever.
Here is a thorough video that explains the place of reserve currencies in changing world geopolitics :

Nice thread......
I think it is possible that the United States will still be the world power in the next 100 years. Large and diverse economy, which accounts for about a quarter of the global GDP, strong military presence, with hundreds of overseas bases and alliances with many countries, vibrant culture, which influences many aspects of global entertainment, media, education, and innovation, resilient political system, which allows for peaceful transitions of power and checks and balances among different branches of government.

They also have a history of adapting to new international realities, such as the rise of China, the challenges of climate change, and the threats of terrorism.
In reality, the United States faces many challenges and uncertainties in this 21st century, and it cannot take its global leadership for granted. It will have to compete with other emerging powers, such as China, India, Brazil, and maybe Nigeria which will have larger populations and economies by 2050.

Still, I see no one taking that position they hold!
@emboldened

The US adaptation to the given international realities is questionable. Would you say that they reacted well to China's evolution? Would you say that their climate policies are effective?
You can react to something but your reaction might not be good.
