Go to the last 36 governors that served with Olusegun Obasanjo. Offer them immunity from prosecution if they all return N10 billion naira each. After all, most of them were facing charges totaling over N100 billion before their files disappeared from the EFCC. That will give President Jonathan N360 billion naira overnight.
That means the President would have to grant his wife(Patience Jonathan was alledge to have been caught red-handed with about$11 million dollars at the Lagos Airport sometime ago lipsrsealed) amnesty and ask her to pay N10 Billion Naira going by this columnist postulations. The tell tale signs of subversiveness is written all over these protest whilst some people are using the innocence of exercising one’s rights to protest to commit unbecoming acts the others are busy fuelling and stoking feud in the land by killing Christians.

How do you equate burning a mosque in Benin City with removal of oil subsidy if not for other underhand motives of the born to rule Northerners? It is clear the protest is a triumph for the anarchist amongst us and a jamboree for those multitude hoards of unemployed youths,  do I blame them in their hour of glory, hell NO, after all an idle mind has always been the devil’s workshop.

Comment on the allocation for security in the budget proposal

The issue of social justice and security comes to play here. It will be futile even if they take all the over N4 trillion and put in security without social justice. If you see somebody become a governor today with only one house and all of a sudden he has houses all over the place, then something is wrong. If a governor’s son who had only one car suddenly begins to have a fleet because his father is a governor then there is something wrong.

If the son who was traveling economy suddenly starts traveling first class, then something is wrong. If a member of the National Assembly who had only a bicycle now has a fleets of cars, and yet the common people cannot go to hospital to get medical care, then something is wrong. If our children cannot go to public schools to get qualitative education, if the roads are death traps, and if we cannot get the electricity they promised us, of course no amount of money they voted for security will save the situation.

I have no quarrel with whatever amount of funds they give to security but corruption will naturally take the chunk of it. Out of the N1 trillion they have allocated, it is likely that N800 billion will go into the pocket of some people. Looking at the Nigerian Police, no two police officers have the same pair of shoes or berets because of corruption.

Policemen on duty wear slippers and sandals because there are no boots. Whatever they put into security will go down the drain. We have to fight corruption first. People in authority have to learn from their predecessors.

Politics › Re: House Of Reps Passes Motion To Reverse Subsidy Removal - Sai, Tambuwal by KnowAll(m): 6:46pm On Jan 08, 2012
THE President can use the resolution to back track and save face. It is better for the house to reject the proposal than for the President to fall on his sword and accept a reversal of his intention. That would make him look like a clown. Who knows whether it is even the President urging the house to turn down the bill since he(THE President) cannot face Ngozi  and tell her to her face this thing cannot not work for now.

But I personally still support the removal of any subsidy, it is a drain to our economy no matter how we look at it.

@Gbawe,

Development can be staggered. It is only a foolish government that would promise every infrastructure within 4 years but within a 12 year period assuming the PDP Winning machine clinks the next 2 elections, then a determined government should be able to achieve a lot.  At least they are saving $8 Billions a year from subsidy removal and that would go a long way in a 12 year period.

Well not discounting the abysmal failure of the last 12 years, I would hope that was a learning curve.
Politics › Re: Is It Not High Time For Igbos & Southerners In The North To Bear Arms? by KnowAll(op): 6:12pm On Jan 08, 2012
There are probably a few million southerners in northern Nigeria while there are tens of millions of northerners in their land. So bullet for bullet and shooter for shooter who loses?

In a short burst fight, the outcome will be unpredictable but in a prolonged warfare (most likely what the situation will be), number counts, okay?
Are u suggesting all the Northerners are Boko Haram. I don't get u, obviously if the North as a whole are saying they do not want any Southerner in the North then there is no point being a united country. It is time to break up then. But did'nt you read  how the people of Kano State said they were going to shield their christain brothers and sisters from attack. That is encouraging.
Politics › Re: Subsidy The Undiluted Truth by KnowAll(op): 6:06pm On Jan 08, 2012
employ more personell? are you serious? since when did the Nigerian millitary or the Nigerian Police Force complain of a shortage of personell? again, you are failing to tackle the real issues; how competent are those that we have? that is what you should be asking. more personell just means more recurrent expenditure, less money for capital projects and more half baked policemen demanding N50 on our streets. is this what you are truly suggesting?

think again
You see the Police as it is, is a damage institution putting more men into a rot like the Police Force we have now is like throwing good money on bad rubbish. That force would need to be revamped in its entirety and it cannot be done in 4 years. A Palliative step WOULD BE for, the Government to encourage Security Companies to shoulder some of the security responsibilities so as to supplement what the Police are doing, that way the cost would not be on the government but on private individuals, I wrote a piece about security and how 10 million Nigerians can be absorbed into that industry if properly regulated. You would need to go and read it.
Politics › Re: Is It Not High Time For Igbos & Southerners In The North To Bear Arms? by KnowAll(op): 5:58pm On Jan 08, 2012
How does arming southerners living in northern Nigeria solve the problem? Northerners will also be armed, remember? The Northerners have the motive to kill while the southerners only defend. Those planning to kill won't tell you their plans. You can only defend after an attack (when some have already died). You may even not be alive to defend

Unless the southerners adopt an attack mode as a form of defense, this is a dumb idea.
Best idea: all southerners move back south (send all northerners back too) and then secure your border. If they come to the south, then the war begins.
It is not only Southerners that needs to be armed also a Northerners doing business in the South like those poor folks in Sapele. A Motive to kill does not mean you would win in a fire fight, if you think along those lines shop keepers in the United States would not be bearing arms, the balance is 50-50. And most Igbo shops I have being to, there are normally more than one person in the shop and most shoppers tend to be around each other, so an intruder that starts a fire fight would have to overpower everyone around.

There is strong eagerness especially amongst the youths to copy what is happening in North Africa, but come on lads" Hello is any one at home" let me remind you lest u have forgotten, we have a democracy at the moment,  so there no reason to needlessly waste your lives fighting over a non-issue.  cool

nteresting, so how do you suggest "we fight" boko haram? whose job is it to do that, the Nigerian citizenry or the security forces? since when did it become the responsibility of the average Nigerian to battle terrorism?

my brother, you need prayers
The money saved can do wonders, you can employ more security personnel, like more Immigration, customs and Military personnel to man our borders and so forth. I have always supported a two prong approach to the subsidy issue, the Government should look into the excessive pay and allowance of the Legislature, that would be a tough battle for GEJ but anyhow u look at it we are stuck with GEJ for 4 years because we practised a Presidential System. Any other usurpation of power would be an illegality.

Have Nigerians ever wonder why we always get fuel scarcity despite all these companies bringing oil left, right and centre surely we should be having oil glut over supply but alas the opposite is the case. huh
Politics › Re: Subsidy The Undiluted Truth by KnowAll(op): 5:28pm On Jan 08, 2012
I'm worried after discovering there was no subsidy in the first place. You only remove subsidy when there is subsidy
True there is no such thing as subsidy in a concretized sense,(that is the Govt. only pays what is in your invoice) and year on year, Government does not know how much each company would supply. But there is some agreement for some oil firms and some charlatans to supply PMS that is they have being given the mandate to bring in oil- that YOU can call any name hence why it is called Subsidy. The big question or should I say the big fraud is whether these callous men bring in the oil or not, the corrupt men in the ports stamp the papers of these bogus oil companies insisting they supervise the delivery.

These fake transactions would now be presented for payment and such payments almost always go through. The fact is no one can say with all certainty that the goods were delivered that is the endemic corruption inherent in this so called 'subsidy business'. By removing Subsidy the fake oil exporter would have to deal directly with the end users me and you, you can only sell goods that you have, once it is established you have no goods to sell,  u get no pay, but under the old system of subsidy you get paid for supplying nothing. So which one is better. undecided
Politics › Subsidy The Undiluted Truth by KnowAll(op): 4:31pm On Jan 08, 2012
Subsidy is good. Most countries in the world give their citizens one palliative incentive from time to time and they come in the way of subsidies. Many countries in Africa, Asia and South America make sure their citizens purchase or get hold off those items OR goods they produce and have comparative advantage over other nations at a cheaper price. In Cuba, Cubans buy Cigars for next to nothing, same thing in Venezuela their citizens buy petroleum products next to nothing. Nigeria of course should have comparative advantage on oil products but unfortunately our Refineries are not working to full capacity.

That is our Refineries are producing less than the demand for the nation domestically hence license has to be issued to private oil firms to bring in the necessary demand to meet local consumption. Obviously these guys bring in the oil at world price valuation, for obvious reason that cost cannot be transferred directly to the consumers which is me and you and everyone out there hence the subsidy.

But Today that conduit called subsidy has over-grown into an uncontrollable monster with several heads. Today the Presidency cannot tell you with all certainty how much this misadventure would cost the nation because of the endemic corruption that has pervade every step of that supply chain. One cannot not pick a specific area as the main culprit, as one area is detected another unexpected expenses rears her ugly head making what should have cost N300 Billion last year balloon to over N1.6 Trillion Naira. Only God Knows what the cost would be in 2012 if Subsidy was continued relentlessly.

Where do you start with such a bureaucratic monster that keeps on growing a new head once one of the previous head has been detected and cut off. Have you people forgotten that Nigerians are master scammers, they think ahead when planning to make a kill, once one loop hole goes down there is always a plan B to take over from where the previous one end.

When our dear lady came in(Ngozi Iweala) and saw the bureaucratic mess she had to suggest that on this occasion "we have to throw away the baby and the bath tub", the rot was so nauseating that revamping or sanitizing it would have being one herculean task hence scrapping it in its totality and going back to the drawing board was seen as a more sane option.

So Ladies and Gentlemen,  you should bear and understand Joboy's agony on this issue, what I would urge you to do is follow that N1.8 Trillion Naira savings to its logical conclusion, making sure it does not end in some corrupt officials pocket. Already the Government has started spending the savings by buying buses to cushion the pains,  I know the buses are not enough but that is an encouraging start, rather than disrupting the country by rioting we should endeavour bearing in mind that it was barely 7 months ago we gave Jo Boy a new mandate for 4 years, and that mandate would or should last for 4 years, we cannot say we don't like his policy now, it is like stopping a football match half-way when one team is leading and proclaiming that that team leading won the match,  while there are still many more minutes to play.

We need to educate ourselves on our democratic system and practises,we have chosen the American Presidential System and once you have given your mandate in a Presidential System, that mandate is a bitter pill that has to be swallowed until the next election cycle. We are not practising parliamentary democracy where elections can be called at any-time especially when the opposition are gaining grounds on the polls.

So rioting next week is an un-necessary waste of precious time, that energy should be use to fight the Boko Haramites amongst us who are doing more damage to our social, economic and political cohesiveness than any other insurgency in our history.

That is my 2pence on Subsidy!!! undecided

IMO, difficult as it may be i think they should return home.
The idea of going home is a sisi and defeatist idea. Why don't the Igbos in S.A. GO Home. when you are armed the community you resides knows you can hold your own against any adversary, if they choose to go home, no qualms, but if they choose to stay put also no qualms each individual would decide and ascertain their own interest, that is they would have to know what would be good for their respective families, business or organisation but going home at a whim is not something I would support.

Of course I would support them going home, considering the precarious situation they find themselves today, where they are not allowed to bear arms to defend themselves. SO basically for now it is a no win situation for them. Home might be the safest bet.

Politics › Re: Jonathan Is A Deceiver. 25% Salary Cuts Amounts To Nothing by KnowAll(m): 1:50pm On Jan 08, 2012
It seems the poster and some of the debaters are paranoid or confused in refusing to understand that the Basic Salary is a mathematical constant on which all other Allowances are generated before summation. These include leave, travelling, retirement etc, even virtually every other take home. Which mean all other allowance is automatically affected. Stop deceiving the public. For more information on this consult Remuneration offices in Nigeria for further understanding on what is meant by slashing someone's Basic Salary
The SALARY CUT is only basic salary and not linked to any other allowances. This cut is also meant to be for one year, it is more like a charitable gesture, the statement in itself is a very ambiguous statement. But I doubt the landlord's in Abuja, the newspaper vendor's and the other allowance providers in Abuja would be slashing there asking fee by 25%, so linking the basic salary to these allowances is a non-starter and a fallacy.  cool

I sometimes wonder aloud, all the men who are suppose to be creating wealth as Small and Medium Enterprise are all vying to be a Legislature because of the profligacy going on there. WHAT are people like Bukola SARAKI Doing in the Senate if not for greed after robbing a bank off N17 Billion Naira(Societal GENERALE'S Demise comes to mind) and being a Governor for 8 years yet he has no notable Medium or Small scale industry that one can point too, aha I almost forgot "Bukola Babes" a football team is about the only thing he owns.

Security Contractors can become big business in Nigeria. All Nigeria has to do is register all would be security outfit and their personnel before issue them with license to bear arms. The Security Industry can absorb more than 10 Million unemployed youths in Nigeria. Can you imagine a Pastor hiring 5 Gun Toting Security personnel for his service knowing the tithes and offering are bounty-full enough to sustain such service, I guess even Almanjeris would apply to be Security personnel guiding a Church if the Salaries are mouth watering.

Imagine paying UN-employed youths N300 per hour, not a lot of money by internatinal standard but quite a bit in Nigeria especially for un-employed youths. We Should revamp our Security Industry in Nigeria.

It amazes me an Igbo spear parts seller in Maiduguri or Sokoto or even Kano would have millions of Naira worth of gear in his shop but he is handicapped to protect and defend his wealth.

Like a quotation in the Bible goes " of what good is it for a man to gain the whole world and loses his soul". Of what good is the goods and wares to the Igbo Trader or any other Trader for that matter if they cannot defend themselves and their livelihood. It just does not make sense. undecided

The right to bear arms must be part and an integral part of our funder-mental human right. A man with a double barrel gun once held armed robbers at bay in a gun duel one night in Ibadan many years ago, the encounter went on for 4 hours, one of the Robbers was shot dead, and that was the last we heard of armed robbery in that neighbourhood.
