AtikuNetwork:Citizens of poverty capital of the world & backwardness, continue to discuss the presidential cycle that comes every 4 years. Your problem is systemic and dysfunctionality. Igbos have Excel in their countless numbers in different parts of the world where they have functional systems. Igbos deserve next presidential slot within the context of this our dysfunctional system of Presidential arrangements( regional turn by turn), and not this above foolish logical explanation that has no context. "Where are those who want to oppose the SE and others whom forever will want to extricate themselves from this contraption"?.. |
Arrewa:Stop insulting Igbos!. Any way, from your analysis, Nigeria do not have religious problem in most parts except in pucket of places & we should leave it at that. |
opeldavid:Pre covid-19, we were the poverty capital of the world. At the hight of covid-19 with the economy sort of shut down, more Nigerians possibly become poorer. At this time of economic opening & easying, incentives, interventions, dropping of commercial loan interest and so forth should be the vanguard of any policy thrust, not policies that are inflationary. Inflationary policy increases poverty, and when such policy is timed wrongly, your guess is as good as mine. |
Miracle1991:Bro, you must slow down with this your "this people have an in-built hate in them" because when you add up/compare all the "in-built hate of Igbos" , it pales in comparison with the in-built hate and deaths brought by Awolowo (Yoruba) on Igbo children, women and the elderly who perished in their millions (3 millions or better) or Hausa/Fulanis who have killed millions in the past, and are killing tens of thousands presently. True or false?...me and my girlfriend Joke (Yoruba) talk about this a lot, and she tends to agree with me when I'm right. |
kettykin:These policies of marginalization & backfiring are endless......all aided by the Yorubas by the way. To add to the list. Policy of exclusion from regional Sea ports/international airport. Today airports with possible international flight routes are springing up all around the region. Policy. Nepotistic cut off points for University entrance. Today marginalized Igbos who migrated out in huge numbers to seek education else where during 80s, 90s & 2000s are breaking records and are being placed in higher positions in those places. Collectively, they generate Fx inflows into the country in $billions. I mean I can go on and on and on.... |
Brandstudio01:It's not dirty politics....Is now a question of Nigeria survival. Its the US trade war with China, & changing conditions with those Chinese loans that are forcing them to rethink their infrastructural development model with focus on "return on investment". |
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) is a Federal Government Agency that governs and operates the Ports in Nigeria. The major Ports include; Lagos Port Complex and Tin Can Island Port Complex both in Lagos State. The Calabar Port Complex in Cross River State. The Delta Ports in Warri, Delta State and the Rivers Port Complex and Onne Port Complex both in Rivers State. Our operations are carried out under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Transportation. We also operate in collaboration with other Government Agencies. The Head Office of the Nigerian Ports Authority is located at 26/28 Marina, Lagos, Nigeria. The Lagos Port Complex The Lagos Port Complex also referred to as Premiere Port (Apapa Quays) is the earliest and largest Port in Nigeria. It is situated in Apapa, Lagos State, the commercial center of Nigeria. The Port was established in 1913 and construction of the first four deep water berths commenced in 1921. The Apapa Port is well equipped with modern cargo handling equipment and personnel support facilities making her cost effective and customer friendly. It enjoys intermodal connection – Rail, Water and Road. It boasts of four wheel gate of about 8 meters for oversize cargoes and this has given the Port an edge over others in the handling of oversized cargoes. For improved operational activities and efficiency the landlord Port model was introduced by the Federal Government and this later culminated in the concession of the terminals to private operators in 2006. Presently, the Lagos Port Complex has five (5) private Terminals with expert management and personnel that have both local and international experience in port operation. The Terminal Operators are: AP Moller Terminal Ltd. (APMT), ENL Consortium Ltd. (ENL), Apapa Bulk Terminal Ltd. (ABTL), Greenview Development Nigeria Ltd. (GNDL) and Lilypond Inland Container Terminal. The Port also has two (2) Logistics bases- Eko Support Services Ltd. and Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics (LADOL) and eight ( jetties. Sugar, Salt and Flour are produced in factories belonging to operators within the port.Lagos Port Complex is registered as an ISPS certified Port facility with the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The port offers 24hrs operation and vessel turnaround time is impressive. All operational areas are guarded by both armed and unarmed security personnel, as well as with Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) for effective manning. The Concession has resulted in vast expansions in line with international best practices in Port infrastructure bringing about efficiency and improved productivity. Tin Can Island Port Tin Can Island Port is located North West of Lagos Port Complex and has bearing of Latitude 62*N Longitude 30* 23E. Its pre concessioning came into being 1975 when the country experienced increase in the economic activities during the oil boom coupled with the post-civil war reconstruction. This led to high volume of import and export that resulted to serious Port congestion. The resultant effect created a situation where it became necessary for the government to initiate an actual means of decongesting the Port; by constructing a new Port on Tin Can Island. In 1976, the construction of the new Port started and was commissioned on 14th October, 1977 and christened Tin Can Island Port, with the capacity of handling 10-16 vessels at a time with the main port complex occupying a total area of 73 hectres. Post Concessioning Tin Can Island Port Complex today is an amalgam of what used to be Roro and Tin Can Island Ports. This merger came with the concessioning of the terminals to five (5) Terminal Operator with different concessioning agreements, in May, 2006 after Nigerian Port Authority adopted the Land Lord model as the preferred option by the Fedreal Government. But the various departments and their personnel were merged in September, 2006. Operations Private Terminal Operators took over on the 10th of May, 2006 for Terminal A, C and D while Terminal B was handed over on the 1st of June, 2006. Port and Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML), which is a BOT, commenced operation in September, 2006. Operationally, there have been marked improvements in turnaround time and berth occupancy. Average Berth Occupancy rate has improved from 75% by the end of 2006 to 83% as at now. Development Plan and Quay Wall Since the commencement of the Lease Agreement in 2006, the Terminal Operators have embarked on planned and redevelopment of their terminals with a view to building capacity and staying competitive. SPECIAL FEATURES: Tin Can Island Port is uniquely different and has become investors’ haven because of the following features. 1. The Port handles diversified cargoes with each terminal operator specializing in unique forms of cargo (Dry and Wet bulk cargoes, Box- Containerized cargoes, RORO services). 2. The Port handles vessels ranging from 100m – 260m. 3. Pilotage is 24 hours service. 4. Quick turnaround time of vessels. 5. Well-equipped and up to date modern equipment for clearing cargoes as each terminal is uniquely different in operations with quick and prompt procedures & delivery of cargo. 6. Water supply and Bunkering – The Port has fresh water wells sunk to the depth of 250meters that supply fresh water to vessels at berth. While bunkering of vessels are undertaken by reputable oil companies. 7. CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) 8. Kiri kiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) 1&11. Each providing 780meters quay Length and maximum water depth of four (4) meters ; 9. Regular sea patrol of all anchorage, jetties and fair way buoys with the able assistance of the Marine Police and the Nigerian Navy. The Rivers(Porthacourt) Port The Port is situated in the Gulf of Guinea, also known as Rivers Port Complex it started from a humble beginning; evolving from one berth for coal export; to four berths to handle a cargo mix of import/export merchandise. Presently, the Port with a quay length of 1,259 is capable of accommodating eight modern sea-going vessels loading and discharging at the same time. The Port is also equipped with 16 tanks of 3,048 ton capacity of bulk oil installation. This has a conveyor belt and a pier holding the structure, while there are also seven stacking areas of 27,407.15 square meters size and four (4) Arcon sheds with storage capacity 12,486.15 square meters. The dockyard, is the section which carries out electrical, marine and engineering works, is being headed by a Dockyard Manager. The Port is a multi-purpose Port and plays the ‘Mother-Port’ role to several jetties surrounding her as ‘satellites’ through the provision of pilotage and towage services, catering for the various markets, relating to Dry, Liquid and General cargo trades. It is worthy to note that the Port is situated strategically in one of the world’s largest crude oil production regions and by this advantage, created the tanker market being witnessed at the Federal Ocean Terminal through the Bonny Fairway Buoy. Onne Port Complex Onne Port Complex situated on the Bonny River Estuary along Ogu Creek is the first port of its kind in Nigeria that operated the Landlord Port Model devised to encourage private sector participation in the Port Industry. Strategically located, the Port is one of the largest Oil and Gas Free Zone in the world supporting exploration and production for Nigerian activities. The Free Zone provides a logistics Oil Service centre for the Oil and Gas Industry in Nigeria both Onshore and Offshore. It also provides easy access to the entire West African and Sub-Sahara Oil fields. The Port accounts for over 65% of the export cargo through the Nigerian Sea Port. There are multiple operations that are carried out in the Port in addition to the Oil and Gas operations. Some of such multiple operations are General Cargoes, Bulk Cargoes (Dry & Wet), Oil Well Equipment, Containerized Cargoes and other Logistics Services provided to companies that are customers and tenants. Hence the Port is a multi-purpose Cargo Port. The Port is highly industrialized with modern facilities and equipment that can stand the test of time. There is also adequate land available for development to all customers and prospective investors who desire to partner with the Port in the Maritime Business. The Port covers an area of 2,538.115 hectares. Onne Port has one of the biggest harbour mobile cranes in Africa (Liebherr 600) with a lifting capacity of 208 metric tons and 220 Gmk5220 grove twin cranes that has capacity of lifting single heavy cargo of 300 tons owned by one of the Terminal Operators in the Port. Also, safe and comfortable hospitality facilities are available for Oil & Gas clientele at the Free Zone / Port Area. The Port is on security level one (1) creating a safe, secure and customer friendly environment for everyone doing business here. Delta Ports Delta Ports is to provide a formidable platform for shipping activities to thrive through strategic partnership with the stakeholders. And we do hope to achieve this through culture of excellence, customer satisfaction and ingenuity in the way we do our business. Delta Ports is unique and has enormous capacity yearning for development. Because of the immense potentials that abound in the port, thus it is adjudged to be the port of the future, it provides advantages that set it apart, and place it on a class of its own. Those selling points are: shorter distance for haulages of cargoes for catchment states of Anambra, IMO, Enugu, Delta, Edo, Kogi, Ondo, Benue , etc when compared with other operational ports. It has capacity to generate its own cargo as the port has been surviving on captive cargoes over the years. Its quick turn round time for vessels is excellent improvement over the past years. There is the emergence of new growth drivers in the export of gas by the EGTL facilities that is about to commence production with a capacity next to non in the country. Quick identification and documentation of cargoes and excellent delivery of cargo procedures. Security of cargoes are guaranteed and adequate modern facilities to handle all kinds of cargoes are assured by the concessionaires. Calabar port Historically, Calabar port served as an important focus of trade with the outside world for the Eastern States and a natural harbour for the Northern States of Nigeria right from the pre-colonial and colonial times. The Old Port was privately administered and operated by various shipping companies until December 1969 when the Federal Government took over the inadequate Calabar Port facilities from the erstwhile operators and vested it on the Nigerian Port Authority. The development, modernization and expansion of the Calabar port was embarked upon under the 3rd National Development Plan of 1975–1980 in order to upgrade the port facility to cope with the ever increasing demand of our economy. The new port complex was commissioned on 9th June, 1979 and lies 45 nautical mile (about84km) upstream from Fairway Buoy. Today, Calabar Port Complex comprises the following: the Old Port, the New Port and the Dockyard; and has jurisdiction over Crude Oil Terminals at Antan, Odudu, Yoho, QuaIboe; and other jetties at NIWA, McIver, NNPC, ALSCON, Dozzy, Northwest. The three Terminals of Calabar Port are operated by world class Terminal Operators; namely: ECM Terminal Ltd, INTELS Nigeria Ltd and Shoreline Logistics Nigeria Limited. Calabar port’s profile in the oil and gas industry is fast gaining prominences as Our business is to make your import and export dreams come true by providing efficient port service system that guarantee quick turnaround time of vessels and faster cargo clearance process Coming up LEKKI PORT-NIGERIA'S DEEPEST PORT A multi-purpose, Deep Sea Port at the heart of the Lagos Free Trade Zone, Lekki Deep Sea Port will be one of the most modern ports in West Africa, offering enormous support to the burgeoning commercial operation across Nigeria and the entire West African region Source:https://nigerianports.gov.ng/
Chai, see as Sea ports almost surrounded the SE in proximity, still the South Easterners control 60% or more of imports in all SW Sea ports. Afonja Wetin remain?.......Una better start making peace with SE..oo. "Eko oni baje is not enough oo.." |
Whiteangel1234:Do you really want to know the truth. Let me explain it to you in lay man's language, and I hope I'm wrong..... but do a little bit research on your own. First thing first, I must salute the Buhari's government for all these critical infrastructure initiatives in SE region which were decades behind & over due on a region subject to all manners of unberted marginalizations. The current infrastructure initiatives in the SE today have many take aways, but the take away I chose to deal with...is the 'motivation' behind these moves. The motivation is driven by both internal & external factors. For the internal factor, the motivation is driven by politics/2023 presidential election etc, and for the external factor, the motivation is driven by the deadly geo-political stranglehold between the US & China, as the US accuses China of luring African nation's into debt traps. Chinese loans to Nigeria comes in form of multilateral, bilateral, private and sometimes cooperate loans. With this covid-19 and the trade war ragging between US and China, Chinese loans ( bilateral and multilateral mainly) are trying to align their requirements/ characteristics to that of Imf, world Bank and Paris club loans and to some extent Euro bonds. For these loans to keep flowing especially towards ongoing infrastructure projects in these countries, viability/rate of returns/expansion of Chinese trade into new regions within a country as they battle the US are now requirements for the loans to keep coming. |
NGpatriot:Bro, you are wasting your time in your own logic not mine. This is no brand of any consipracy logic, not illogical, not baseless rubbish and etc. Straight talk: Yoruba conspiring alliance with the North against the other South & the rest of Nigeria has come to a halt period. It cannot go down any more... beyond being the poverty capital of the world with the worst insecurity unimaginable. You can only go vertically up, and folks like you must accept it for what it is. "No condition is permanent". As for Jonathan government, poor him, he was still operating under that wicked conspiring alliance, and couldn't accomplish anything before that system destroyed him. That wicked system is unraveling due to forces of change in the world today. |
winterfell007:I'm all for a big and better Nigeria/Africa. I just engage in critical reasoning and analysis. |
matrixme:Hmm... You are kind of right... but I'm thinking, something made it big, and will take something big to sustain its bigness. |
donproject:That spanner you paid for 350 naira instead of 100 naira and millions of Igbo lives lost in roads accidents from Lagos to East for decades just because of Yoruba tribal bigotry and conspiring alliance with the North against Igbos is what you are witnessing on this thread. You can change the narrative all you want. My bro time are changing, and are changing faster than you can imagine. Not putting Lagos down, but a whole lot is happening in the SE a well. Why are Igbos sending some of their investments back to the East?. Why are S Eastern lands more expensive now?. SE diaspora Fx inflows into the region ( in $billions) can give the national bugdet a run for it's money + all those massive investments going on all around Lagos, which group are more strategically placed to take a better advantage of them. Bro, the natural wealth in SE/SS which is about to be opened up to the rest of the world will dwarf anything coming from the SW. |
Sakamaje:True, true, I guess you are right. |
NGpatriot:Seriously, I wanted to remain open/objective to this new development until your insults. You see, Yorubas like you have been living in bubbles with your conspiring alliance with the North against Igbos for years without end. My bro, you lack critical reasoning/sense of Nigeria history, and that's why you cannot break it down and connect the dots, but most Igbos can because of their own unique history in this country. Multiple numbers of those small 4500 beu capacity ships as you reffered to them, the ports they berth on, & all other relevant Infrastructures (international airport, financial services, big oil companies headquarters...etc) and much more,.... their concentration in Lagos wasn't by accident or coincidence, but by geo-political considerations in most cases. High population of Igbos and others in Lagos/SW were as a result of this policies of marginalisation around these critical infrastructures for decades. enough said. |
Sakamaje:True, true, I guess you are right. |
Olatomiwami:Oh boy....., this is going to affect Eko Atlantic. All the projections & calculations figured into the project will have to be recalculated. ( Remember, its private sector investment with the expected rate of return on investment base on time value of money. Decongestion of Lagos port can translate into overall lost of revenue for the state) A redirection of Igbo's economic dynamism in Lagos + the kicking off, of Africa continental free trade area by the first of January 2021 is economically not a good news for the SW period. "Sai Baba". |
helinues:Can you do worst than Awolowo.....I don't think so. |
spy24:He hopes to achieve some points... that the Yoruba conspiring nature and alliance with the northern jihadists have no more negative effects on Igbo progress, rather it has impoverished the Yorubas and make the rest of the country the poverty capital of the world. |
Sammy07:There was a unified historical junction between Igbos & these Afonja almagiris.(dated about 5000 years back, hence some similarities). You can go and unearth that information & stop being lazy/criticising. |
ObukoLamidicownu:I mean, do Yorubas do critical thinking at all? Igbos are not lamenting anything, but are being tactical, strategic & patient, and you lots know it. Igbos are the only group in Nigeria who have been battle tested standing alone. Yoruba have not been battle tested standing alone, nor Hausa or Fulanis. The Fulani agents of deaths are ravaging the very essence of what made you a human Yoruba. ( yes, because your logic is warped and your are also a Target, while you pretend you're not, but the Igbos.) Any upcoming crisis within the contraption not in the format of Nigerian/Biafran war again, will definitely have a different out come, and I don't see Nigeria vs Biafra format again, rather Christianity vs Islam. Young man, Igbos are not lamenting anything, but waiting to see how the Yorubas are going to ride the tigers this time around. When we Igbos look at the drone shots of typical Yoruba cities whom wasn't battle tested standing alone vs Igbo cities after 50 years of civil war, Igbos start lamenting for Yorubas. |
nemynely:Rubbish. Decentralize, restructure or divide. What's fearful or mysterious about it Afonja?.. |
Realerreal:One of the sealed secrets revieled about the black race by a prominent White (US) historian (don't you ever expect me to give you the name because you are a niger-rian), and there are so many secrets they know about us. "For a typical niger, you can take the country away from the niger, but you can't take the niger away from the country". *Note, can you even imagine the depth of anthropologically studies undertaken on black race by Whites from the first encounter till date. Argue with yourself in the mirror. |
illicit:Yorubas give full support to Buhari/fulani. They are culpable as well. |
Guestlander:You feel sorry to make you feel better. We've seen the drone shots of your progress and developments since after the war... including human capital development. We've also calculated the snail speed of your developments base on those satellite images and drone shots... prompting an elite Northern politician stating that people of certain region control 85% of privately owned real estates in the country ( to me thats exaggeration though). If you fully understand the wealth the same group of people you are feeling sorry about have overseas, you will kill your poor soul ( by the way, those wealth are inter- generational) Forget about exclusionary/marginalized infrastructural transformation taking place in Northern/SW regions. They are base on politics of injustice & domination which are unsustainable over time. There are second level transformation taking place all around those regions you are talking about that will affect positively to those population group you hate so much and feel sorry for. That population group you feel sorry for are thriving and doing great in their sister cities/ States like the beautiful Akwa Ibom, Calabar, Asaba, Port Harcourt...to mention but few. |
izuswift:There are also nigger state in Nigeria & the real "Niger" country in West Africa. For as long as we Africans retain these names, "we haven't enter into history"…..ex French President. Accepting & retaining a derogatory name supposedly given by "a superior race of man to an inferior race of man" who subsequently retain such name with pride, flying high the flag of that pride in the presence of Europeans, Asians, Russians, Arabs and other race of men underscore the "Reality" of us being sub-humans, hence sub-Saharan African countries. *Note: By the way, no other geographical expression on Planet Earth or Continent has any attachment of "Sub" prefix. |
MinorityOpinion:Mr Man, if you conduct a survey in Igbo land today, you will be surprise to find out that close to 100% of Igbos feel indifferent or don't really care about how these River line ethnic groups identify themselves. ...but almost 100% Igbos are confused as to the process of influence or assimilation that led to this identity confusion. Most Igbos believed that the historical evolutionary processes that led to their present identity should have left some elements of their original cultural root since this process was not imposed on them through war or trade, so naturally, most Igbos feel like this is a historical marginalization in parallel with their present day marginalization. |
tamdun:What about your genocide on Igbos...aka Awolowo policy? |
dre11:You goats need younger/new generation of leaderships, of which a bill was actually intoduced in the house & was legislated into law by those thiefing politicians whom you lazy youths rushed to elect blindly. They have stolen your future, but felt so pitiful for you sub-humans, they decided to save you lazy youths from yourselves, but today, it seems you've chosen to remain in hell. |
Guestlander:Of point. |
Kosiso12:If Yorubas are kind hearted people, they should have urge their Son Seun(nairaland owner) to do something remarkable for Igbos seeing that Igbo subject matters is 90% of what drive nairaland. Igbos are developers, and have developed nairaland to become the biggest social media platform in Africa if not in the world. Afonja argue with your self oo.. |
tunjijones:To some degree, you are right, but there were co-opted into it more or less, but the irony is that most of them have Igbo blood and vis-visa. |

How can you make claims you cannot prove? .. I think you wanna destroy this thread by including Oduduwa and Yorubas
