Yes, he benched Pantillimon. That is very impressive.

Reuben is the first choice but he is out injured. Pantillimon was brought in at the last minute to replace him but his performances have been suspect.

It takes a brave coach to rely on an 19 year old with no experience.
Thanks for this mature explanation,I thought Pantillimon is d first choice but i heard that first choice got injured

As u said is a plus for Uzoho for displacing Pantillimon, just need to work more and cement his place as Number 1.very encouraging development.

No wonder, he's been off my radar. Well, we can still give him a chance to take a claim if he's still the same Ike Uche. After all, his brother Kalu Uche was our best player in South Africa 2010 and Ike is a much better player than Kalu. The only problem though, we have so much options in the position he players so he's gonna miss out.

No o Ike Uche is not better than Kalu Uche, though they are different players but Kalu Uche rock my man

Advantage of foreign born players have include

I.good foundations, they are very well taught.
Ii. Right age

You know that barring injury challenges, they can play for Nigeria for a long time.

Usually, by the time a talented locally born player is discovered, he is already old, can not learn new tricks.

A player like Pius Ikedia was predigiously talented, if he got the right grassroot training, perhaps he could have been like an Overmars.

When our players go abroad, they often have to unlearn things.

Grassroot development also needs quality coaching. We do not have it. At least, not at a big enough scale.
Yes u are right, what u are saying apply to every segments in Nigeria not only sports.

Even, with the best grassroots program, we might have cause to reach for better players with dual citizenship. That is just the truth.

In recent times, Nigeria has not struggled to have young players abroad in decent leagues but we still have gaps in our team especially in the defence. If a Nigerian with dual citizenship can do the job , why not?

Our league is poor so we need to improve that. But even with necessary investments in the league, we will still chase a quality acquisition if necessary. The MLS is heavily invested in, yet the US gets players with dual citizenship playing abroad.

We do not need to chase everyone. Only those who have shown great potential.
God bless u for this post.

Pinnick is working. People just want to be heard when they fear they have lost relevance. Trying to get Nigerian players who can add something to the team at the moment and improving our grassroots development program are two different things -- Apples and Oranges. Make your point without condemning our fine efforts. Alaba wanted to play for Nigeria. It's dumb to have ignored him with the excuse of focusing on homegrown talents.
Sorry o am not getting your point

My own point of view is totally different from yours,my view on grassroots development does not negates adding good foreign born players to d team.

Am looking to a stage where we w not care whether u play for us or not and it can only happen if we get things right from grassroots.

Diego Costa is a Brazilian but playing for Spain,i don't think Brazil care about him,Owen Hargreaves has every right to play for Germany but when he opted for England do they care,David Trezeguets opted for France instead of Argentina but Argentines did not make any fuss about it.

My point is simple I want Nigeria to reach d level of football development where we w not care about players born by Nigerian parents playing for another country unless they are Messi or Ronaldo.

Pls read my comment very well and try to understand, may be from where i comment on Onigbinde post.

precisely correct, all those secondary school football tourneys are dead and buried. It is only in Nigeria that such happens, in 2008 I think, we were preparing for the NNPC games, the coach said that they check weight, 60kg maximum(so a kid who is muscular is already out of the games), I was 65 at first but after running up to 5km every morning for two weeks, even Mark Henry would slim down. Then the actual football came, private school, we were all very tall with long limbs, as at then I was 1.85 but was it my fault that my gene is a tall one? But they came and told us that the height limit was 1.67(?) or something even more ridiculous than that. Back then football was still not a big thing and the only means of development was through such secondary school football tourneys, but in a situation where you remove a kid just because he/she is too tall or too muscular does not make sense and academies in Nigeria aint helping out, they only develop the football skills of the kids but education wise they do nothing and they don't even give you enough time to read your books or attend classes elsewhere.

Grassroot football is dead, it died a long time ago. Our academies are not well equiped to train future stars, some of them are hardly educated, how will they understand coaches and highly technical terms?
Honestly we need to go back to d basics and get things right.

As u said in most academies they just teach them d game but education out of it which is not good coz no parents w take his kids to such academy.

Pls look at Great Britain at Atlanta 96 we are better off,see their performance at Rio for God sake.

I am remember how Segun Odegbami single handedly financed Chioma Ajuwa training prior to Atlanta 96.He got a coach for him,pay her hotel bills and make sure d lady was comfortable and what was d result a gold medal at Olympics.

We just need to start rebuilding instead of politicising everything, thanks to Amaju for having d vision and i believe with necessary support d guy w change d face of Nigeria football.

He was right to kick against the employment of Rohr. At the time employing Rohr was a huge gamble. His CV doesn't exactly inspire much confidence. He hasn't been particularly successful in any of his previous jobs in Africa and even Europe.
We are talking about a guy who was unceremoniously sacked by Club Africain of Tunisia..

“We’ve gotten to the point where we can’t even have one more training session with him, especially from the standpoint of player discipline and the style of play,” club spokesman Taoufik Gahbiche said in a radio interview.

The man is actually very correct when he talked about discovering home grown talents. Let me ask you, these foreign born talents who have ditched us in the past, who among those players have really developed into world class players apart from Alaba and maybe Dele Alli.
Can you drop some names you can say we have really missed in the Super Eagles apart from those 2.
Nice post, even Amaju Pinnick said he gambled on him,and most people doesn't believe in him coz his CV tells it.

The man was happy to sign for Nigeria coz he see d country as a way to prove himself again,d talent are abound, all he need is good management.

Boss,am only imitating our unofficial scout here who love to mention any name dey come across, d ajaguns, onomah josh,Aiyenugba and co's
Ever since Mikel Agu messed,I dont take dem serious again, dey shouted Mikel Agu's name b4 his invitation like say no o,d guy na one Ronaldinho, shio, yeye ppu

National team is not a tea party,if u dont av anything extraordinary to give asyde what dis present crop of players are doing, deres no point extending invitation to such players.
I dont mind if rohr retains those called up against Cameroon and Zambia, den maybe give a chance to any new left back, good central back/midfielder, and an out-out striker(dts if any),if not,am only expecting a 27-man pre-lim team list to b pruned down to final 23man list for strong cohesion and maintain b present team brotherhood.

We dont want d usual 60man list 2months b4 worldc cup like what our predecessors av done, dts counter productive.
Like d Yoruba's will say,E ma ko iru mo shapa.
Thank u my man,i was surprised too d way we keep on hammering players invitations as if d team that qualified us are bunch of mediocre.

We need to respect d team or else we loose it.I was surprised hearing from this thread yesterday that Westerhoff invited over hundred players for opened screening prior to US 94.I want to say this is not true coz am hearing of such for d first time.

I followed d team preparation with keen interest being our first WC appearance.I followed Segun Odegbami program coz he w give u first hand information with video clips on what was going on in d camp and training in papendal Holland and Portugal.

After Tunisia 94 we already have a team except one or two areas, and only Chidi Nwanu and Mike Emenalo gatecrashed into d squad and replaced dropped Isaac Semitoje and Nduka Ugbade. So d 100 hundred in camp stiil baffling me,honestly am stand to be corrected.

Alloy Agu said something about Enyeama recalling, though i want Enyeama to be back but whether we like Agu or not there is need for us to critically analyse why he said calling Enyeama back we break d existing bond in d team.

I don't see reason we should always attack without analysing on what he said, truly d bond in this team is great and it make d team thick on and off d field. This bond must not break coz of individual.

Zambia lost a very strong team to a plane crash except Kalusha Bwalya.Zambia raised another team and reached Afcon final in 1994,as u said this team is ready to go unless we see better players in few areas we are lacking.

Mikel Agu as your reference, some we not agree with u even Rohr confirmed it that he had a difficult game but some w still come here to tell us what is not as we are just watching d game.

Am very sure 14 to 15 players are sure banker for this WC except injury occurs which we don't pray for and new players comes in and must even be better than d fringe ones.let names keep on flying Rohr is d coach and I know he w do needful.

Stop begging Nigeria-born foreign players to play for Eagles, Onigbinde tells NFF
By Alex Monye
16 October 2017 | 4:10 am

Former Super Eagles coach, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde has called on the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) to stop pleading with Nigerian -born foreign players across Europe to play for the national team , saying such trend could hamper the nation’s football development efforts.
Onigbinde described as a big shame the recent trend in which a nation that has produced former winners of the prestigious African footballer of the Year award like late Rashidi Yekini, Victor Ikpeba, Emmanuel Amuneke and Kanu Nwankwo are wooing foreign players of Nigerian descent to play for the Super Eagles .
The FIFA technical adviser advised the NFF to create a programme to discover talents from the Nigerian league system and the grassroots, saying if a technical team was constituted to watch every league game in all centers every season, national team coaches would have a pool of talents to choose from while preparing their teams .
The former member of the NFF technical committee advised Nigerian coaches to update their knowledge of the game to meet the current standard of their counterparts in Europe, adding that if Nigeria did not produce good coaches, there is no way they would churn out quality talents.
“I find it embarrassing that Nigeria is begging Europe-born players to play for the Super Eagles. If in the past the country produced quality players, I see no reason it cannot happen now. The problem is that the NFF doesn’ t have a developmental plan. This is why they focus on getting other players.
“If a technical team were sent to all league venues to watch players and pick the best and send it to a particular data base in their Abuja office , such players will be monitored from time to time and Nigerian coaches at the end of the day would have a pool of players to pick from .
“Anybody that says Nigeria no longer has talented footballers is not being fair. There are quality players everywhere in the league, under the bridge and the grassroots, but there is no adequate mechanism put in place to search for them.
“It took me some minutes to pick Vincent Enyeama as my number one goalkeeper for Super Eagles after watching him in a game. I had never met him before I made that decision,” he said.
Onigbinde also advised the NFF to ensure the Super Eagles prepare well to make an appreciable impact in Russia.

https://m.guardian.ng/sport/stop-begging-nigeria-born-foreign-players-to-play-for-eagles-onigbinde-tells-nff/
The man said it all, our developmental plans have been d issue, truly talents abound in Nigeria but who to discover them.

The secondary schools game is dead,Principal cup gone,YSFON collapsed, NIPOGA game no more attention, NUGA game d same thing, these are d games that produced players for our various national teams.

How can we revive all these is left for various sporting federation to put their house in order and put a great mechanism in place to salvage d situations coz it has reached a stage we just have to do something about it.

Apart from football or may be basketball that are still trying to put smiles on d faces of sports fans, other games brings nothing,d worst of it all is d athletics.

This is a game that has produced great athletes like Dele Udoh,Ahmed Adio,Chidi Imoh,Innocent Egbunike,Mary Onyali,Falilat Ogunkoya,Olapade Adenikan,Ezenwa brothers,Chioma Ajunwa but can we say now, mediocre running for Nigeria.

Football still a force to reckon with coz d talents are abound not that we get it right through fundamentals plans and we should thanks d individuals football academies that spring up to fill d gap created by non functional football federation grassroots plans.

Onigbinde said do we need to beg any foreign born players to play for us?definitely NO but in d absence of good foundation what do we do?we just need to beg.I know d man was referring to Tammy Abraham situation.

The man said just few minutes he was able to discover Enyeama.I remember i had a lengthy discussion with my former university coach in person of Amusa Adisa who happened to be goalkeeper trainer to 2002 WC.

I asked him what gave u that confidence to pick Enyeama ahead of Shorunmu against England, he said when u see a talent irrespective of experience u don't care,he said prior to WC Enyeama had only one cap in a grade b friendly.

I asked why can't we discovered more Enyeama and he said most of our grassroots games are no longer functioning and it w take a miracle to see a special players for national team and our coaches are not helping d situation.

Honestly there are a lot of talents wasting away coz nobody to see them, those saddle with d responsibilities are not doing enough. Thanks for football academies that came to d rescued.

i remember how i try to convince Ex polish international Emma Olisadebe after our VC cup in d university,I went to him and told him point blank that did u know u are better than KANU Nwankwo,he looked at me and said u are not serious, again during Governor Cup that my school participated, during this match we beat a very solid team 6-1 and he scored 5 goals. The fans in d stadium were surprised to see such talent in d university. The two local league club try to sign him but refused.

Luckily for him he made world university game team and put shooting star Edith Agoye permanently on d bench. It was Fanny Amu that later told him point blank that u are wasting your talent. The rest is history d same Olisadebe later represent Poland in d WC after Nigeria refused to call him.He single handedly took Poland to 2002 WC,had a goal against USA.

To buttress Onigbinde points, talents abound in sec sch, polytechnics, universities and there is need we revive our youth games like Principal cup,YSFON,focus on NIPOGA,NUGA,these are d only way we can save our sports.

I remember my secondary school represented Nigeria in Sweden in handball game and same thing we represent Nigeria in Canada, this was in 80s,so why are we finding it difficult to do d same thing now.

England Youth International Defender Eager To Hear From Super Eagles Coach Rohr

England youth international defender Dominic Iorfa is eager to represent Nigeria if called up by coach Gernot Rohr ahead of their preparations for the World Cup 2018 in Russia.
Iorfa who is on loan to English Championship side Ipswich Town from fellow Championship team Wolverhampton Wanderers has represented England at various youth levels.
Two years ago he trained with the senior team of England as back up after the team were hit with several withdrawals while in camp for a friendly game.
However the defender who snubbed overtures from Nigeria as his father Dominic Iorfa Snr insist on his son reaching the age of 22 before deciding his future, has now declared for Nigeria.
” He is at the age now , where a decision on his international future has to be made, and like his father said few months ago, he is ready to play for Nigeria, but he is yet to be called up”, a family source told Owngoalnigeria.com.

That is essentially saying if England is no longer calling us at 23, switch to Nigeria.

Why should he wait till 23,if Iwobi,Aina,Ekong, Ebuhei wait till 23 would they be in d national team now

I don't even rate him much but most of d time rely on komne reports and since we need CB to complement Ekong and Balogun then let give him a chance.

If they didn't want their kids to play initially, they have their reasons. Some of these parents want to explore the option especially if their children meet the grade there.. They believe it's better professionally for their wards. Parents look for the best for their children. When it becomes apparent Nigeria may favor them more they have a change of heart.
It's human, even our parents sometimes make decisions for us that they THINK is best for us.. but later rescind. It's a choice.. I have a niece who is already showing promise in track and field at the age of 7. I'd never advise her to run for Nigeria if she makes it to that pro level, as long as the way we do things in athletics today stay the same. I want the best for her.
I understand your point but Irofa snr and Ojokojo snr should know better.I know both right from old Nigeria league but funny enough they are d ones try to stop d young lads from playing for us.

It's like Keshi,Siasia, Okocha, KANU advising their kids by saying don't play for Nigeria, u should know is not possible.
