It seems all I have written looks Arabic. I have said it times without number. I do not believe in History. I believe in current form. There was a long debate before the players arrived camp and some members of this thread kept us updated with the daily reports from camp.

Alampasu was clearly the best in camp. Long before that. During that time and after, my point has not changed.

The coach should invite those he considered the best pool. Drill and screen them and come up with the best in every role.

Rohr drilled and screened. Alampasu came out top. We opted for the weaker choice.
grin
Yes sometimes it w look Arabic when u are not ready to accept some views.

Mind u no coach screen a player in senior national team,u must be ready for d task with simple instruction,if u failed to meet up u are out.

Super Eagle is not under age team where u need to screen b4 u can get d best. The best are d ones assembled for national team and d best must be ready for d task ahead.

TheGoodJoe:

I have shared a link. Sites covered daily reports from the camp and all verdicts was Alampasu was better than Akpeyi and Ezenwa.

Let me quote safarigirl, so it will not be as if I was the only one who noticed the gap.

https://www.nairaland.com/3454568/should-goal-nigeria-against-algeria

We opted for the weaker choice based on experience. Experience is an excuse to drop the better player.

#PlayTheBetterPlayer
I got your point now, play the better player in camp irrespective of their experiences.

If Alampasu perform better than Ikeme,he should start,if Kenneth Otigba perform better than Leon in training he should start,if Madu show flashes in training,he should start ahead of Echiejele,if obiora nwankwo played like Olishe in training he should start ahead Ndidi and Onazi,Ajagun can come in and take Mikel place coz he replicate Messi in training,Osimieh can come in and take Nacho place coz he outshine Nacho in training.

My man with due respect, player selection has gone beyond this,a lot of criteria are put into considerations and that part of d consideration make Akpeyi to bench Alampasu.

To be candid Alampasu is coming to that stage when such consideration w not be a factor against him and we are all praying for that level.Do u remember Rufai,Agu and Agbonibavte era, this was d best era of Nigeria goal keeping,a coach can closed his eyes and pick any of d trio

Warm ups. You want to base the judgment of goalkeepers on warm up. Please, you and I know Alampasu was the better keeper. tbaba1234 even shared tweets about from a veteran journalist.

We went with the weaker choice. Simple.
Pls forget veteran sport journalist.Let us hear your personal views.I don't want to disrespect any journalists coz i have them as friends and i know what they do to promote player.

My question is tell us why Alampasu should be rated than Akpeyi. If u can prove it,no issue coz this thread is for everybody and personally am here to add to my knowledge

Who told you Akpeyi did or did not do what in training?

Were you there with them?

You think training conditions are same as match day conditions?

If you think Akpeyi does not have the Charisma is it Alampasu that will have it?

If your assessment of Osimhen is not entirely based on his U17 exploits, on what other basis are you saying Rohr should invite him?
I don't think there is need for us to be arguing unnecessarily.

I want us to drive our points from Algeria match. The match in question was world cup qualifying match against top rated Africa side, prior to d match three goalkeepers were invited namely Ikeme,Ezenwa and young Alampasu but Ikeme got injured and Akpeyi was called as a replacement and manned d post.

The question is this, why Akpeyi who was not on original list was picked ahead of Alampasu and Ezenwa.A lots of things were put into considerations that only Rohr can explain.I remember his explanation on why he needed to drop home based players for Algeria match,it is simple he said league was on break. This decision gave room for Alampssu ahead of Emma Daniel but based on experience Ezenwa was picked.

Alampasu might be d best in camp due to reports from camp which nobody can authorized coz i remember d camping of Sydney 2000 dream team in Ilorin in 1999.I was privileged to watch their training live.It was straight fight between d two keeper Greg Etafia and Dele Aiyenugba on who to be picked. The reports journalists were bringing out to d loving sporting Nigerians was different from what we are seen live.

Aiyenugba was jumping, punching, diving like a cat with spectators applauding but Etafia was well composed by reading his line very well, organized his defence and u see that maturity in him.At d end Etafia was picked by coach shaibu Amodu and d sport writers were saying Dele was d best. The same scenario played out between Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Idemudia,we thought Idemudia was d best but Aiyegbeni was picked coz in front of goals he was deadlier but Idemudia bunch of skills and delight to watch.

It was this period that i realized the difference between pundits and coaches.A lot happened in d camp that w don't know and one need to hear from d coach b4 one can question his decisions.

It was very glaring prior to Algeria match that Alampasu w not manned d post irrespective of his performance in d camp and it's simple, match of such magnitude wasn't for rookie especially a sensitive area(goalkeeping)

Did you see Arsenal bid for Iheanacho? Manchester City monitored him since he was thirteen. Long before the U17. Manchester City fought hard for his signature with FC Porto. Manchester City promoted Iheanacho to the senior team. Gave him playing time to notch up stats of top quality talents.

City have tried for the young man. It is ungrateful to run the club down as if Arsene Wenger hunted local Nigerian talents and groom the to top quality players.
On Iheanacho and Guardiola,i always respect your views on them coz u are a great fan and u are ready to defend them to d last point but that w not take d truth out.

Let me point it out,i love and cherish Mikel to a fault try to defend him at any given point but at 2014 W/C i admitted Mikel had a woeful outing and ve cite it here that Iheanacho is going like Mikel.I was telling people then that Mikel was growing coz he was under great Mourinho but Nig vs Spain pointed it out that Mourinho is killing Mikel's potential not developing him.

Iheanacho is a Nigerian and every good Nigerians want d best for him and w are free to express our opinions as u are free to express yours but coming out to nail everybody on Nacho or Guardiola is uncalled-for.

Michael Owen have come out and said w have better Iheanacho under Pellegrin than under Guardiola.Owen just attested to people comments on nairaland regards Nacho developments.

I have said it and still repeat it that time w tell may be Iheanacho is developing under Guardiola or not.I wish him d best just like any other Nigerians coz is valuable to d new emerging Eagles.

He was played as a winger. So to judge with goals ratio against strikers is not fair.

Success talent-wise IMHO is up there with the likes of Iheanacho and Iwobi. He has just been so unfortunate with injuries.
Agreed, injury is slowing d guy down and it's a pity that amazing talent is wasting

Do u remember Oyekachi Apam a great and promising defender whose career was shortened by nagging injuries. If not for injury Apam should have be a great partner for Joseph Yobo and a defender young ones w be looking up to by now in d eagles

We have many of them like Chinedu Obasi,Joel Obi,young and promising but cannot fulfill their potential due to injury,d same thing can be said of Anichebe.

Nobody is doubting Success ability or talent but his injury threatening career must be sort out first and fast or else he w belong to d young ones who failed to fulfil their potential due to injury.

About Nwobodo, I don't think anyone is saying he should have an automatic shirt in the Eagles. He is a player that has proven himself wherever he goes. From U20 to U23. He was also one of the best players when Enugu Rangers won the Nigerian League last season. I can tell you that he is impressive.

What those who know him well are saying is that he should be given an opportunity to slug it out with the other guys in the national team. Sometimes ehn, opportunity is all it takes. I was reading what that Man Utd scout said about Ndidi at Nath Boys, it's all about him being at the right place at the right time. We have better players than him in the grassroots all over Nigeria.

For Nwobodo, an opportunity to compete with his countrymen in Camp is not too much. Same happened to Sunday Mba and Godfrey Oboabona under Keshi.
Am not saying young ones should not be given a chance but there must be decency in it.

you are there. I remember in 2006 my brother said that move was a bad move, I was laughing at him because he is a Manu fan but he had the last laugh. he said the same thing when Iheanacho moved to city and last season I thought it was going to backfire but now if Iheanacho decides to stay there then 5 years from now we will be looking at exactly the same scenario.

by the way, can I just point out that you are making a lot if sense today, what did you have for breakfast?

So you'd rather have Iheanacho as a second striker at City? crouch was once the first choice striker for England when he was at lowly Portsmouth, Alcacer was the main striker for Spain when he was at lowly Valencia. Iheanacho should move out, even if it means getting out of England. telling me that you want iheanacho to stay as a second striker at City just because you want a Nigerian in a top club is pure BS, no offence.

let me ask you a simple question, why did pep bring in Silva with Aguero? why didn't he bring in Aguero alone let's see him work his magic. or why didn't he bring in Silva alone with Iheanacho up top? I am abysmally shocked that you didn't reason that. he brought in Aguero and also provided a provider for him which Iheancho was lacking! do you think I just woke up and typed that? I watched it closely. which you obviously didn't.
Agreed, let iheanacho continue developing at man city and player like Iwobi continue having a playing time under a coach who is far better than Guardiola when it comes to player development.

This is d mistake Mikel made at chelsea developing under a wrong but world class coach Mourinho, anytime i watched Mikel i always shaking my head why should a talent be wasting like this(Nig vs Spain)but thank God he was still able to achieve but not at his potential coz he found himself at cross road,a DM at chelsea and AM/CM at S/E.

We are going towards that line again regards Iheanaho and i said time w tell may be d guy is developing or not.If not for Mikel talent that keeps him on which i don't think any Nigeria player have for now,w should have forget about him.

IHEANACHO NOT THE SAME PLAYER UNDER GUARDIOLA - OWEN

"Iheanacho isn’t the same player he was once," Owen told BT Sport. "His confidence has taken a hit, I think he plays with lot of pressure as he is unsure what could happen next unlike when Pellegrini was in charge.

"He is surrounded by players he knows have the trust of the manager unlike during Pellegrini’s reign where he has the trust of the manager and knows it.

"He has regressed under Guardiola. He is under pressure."

Well i believe this should stop arguments on Iheanacho development at Man city.

How i wish Iheanacho continue his development under pellegrini coz a scintillating Iheanacho w be unfolding now but under Guardiola time w tell may be Nacho w be a player we are clamouring for or not

It was on this thread i was telling some people that d guys is under unnecessary pressures but they said No.Thank God somebody that played d game to d highest level is attesting to this,it's very glaring if care is not taking Iheanacho w be loaned out at d end of d season.

Right now...I take Ideye over Success. Success seems to have a problem with injuries. I saw some Watford fans lamenting his injuries. I wonder how it seems to be like that.

When he gets over his injuries and proves himself, then I will take him over Ideye.
I always love pundits that are precise in their analysis and u are one of them here on nairaland. My question is this,is success better than Ideye when w talk of national team, club football, experience and injury history.

Firstly, national team d two should not be compared.Ideye has made is mark in d national team(afcon 2013)his contributions in that tournament was superb and enormous, though he lost his place in d team but later earned a recalled due to his current form but national team experience nothing can be said of Success.

Club football,i know a lot w said Ideye couldn't make it in EPL but forgetting w have a lot of super stars like de Maria,Baloteli, veron,Shevchenko that failed woefully in Premiership.Apart from being flopped at west brom,Ideye has been a good striker in his various club sides. He had a better club goal ratios than success, though injuries did not help success.

I don't know why w are clamouring for injury prone striker as d answer to eagles striking position. No doubt Success has d talent,d skill,d strength and pace but goal ratio is not d solution and to make matter worst very prone to injury and no coach w bank on injury prone player.Pls ask Anichebe,if not for injuries that hampered his football career and still hampering it,i w rate him than any other present Eagles strikers but i cannot pick him coz is injury prone.

I w never forget what happened during u17 that Awoniyi needs to come in for injured Success and salvaged d situation, success injury nearly ruined our chances at d tournament and till today d guy is still battling with injuries.

The question is this do w need to bank on injury prone player and to make d matter worst w are even rating him higher than players who have showed us what they can do in d national team.

Iheanacho rise in d national team doesn't gives player like success an automatic shirt in d national team coz in this thread w have been hearing Nwakili,Osimihen,Nwobodo, pls national team are not for kids but super kids like Iheanacho,Iwobi,Ndidi who proved to us they have it all to slug it out with big boys.

I remember against Algeria d big boys raised to d occasion to save us namely Mikel,Moses and Musa when he came in

A free injury Success should prove himself at Watford first b4 national team.

Nigeria Keeping Close Watch On 19 Year Old Hertha Berlin German-Nigerian Left Back, Son Of Ex 3SC Player

There are indications that coach of the Nigeria senior national team Gernot Rohr is keeping a close watch on Hertha Berlin rising star Jordan Torunarigha, who is born in Germany to Nigerian parents.

Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr is searching for options in the full back position of the team, and Torunarigha is reportedly one of the names in his list of options.

The 19 year old is yet to make an appearance for the main team of Hertha Berlin but he has been ever present for the Reserve side who are campaigning in the Regionalliga.

Standing at an impressive height of of 189cm, he is the son of former Shooting Stars star man Ojokojo Torunarigha, and he is comfortable as a centre back or left full back.

Already he has represented Germany at youth level but he is still eligible for Nigeria, as he qualifies through his parents.

You seem to be the type that stays far away from home and will never see anything good about Nigeria.

I have always perceived you in that light. Your conclusion that only Okaka who was born abroad is using his real age just confirmed my earlier insinuations.

You are not too different from most typical Nigerians who always love to associate every negative thing with Nigeria.

This age falsification issue as it concerns Nigeria is blown out of proportion. My younger brother was mid this year Disqualified from participating in the Shell Cup, under the guise that he is above 17 years of age. This is a boy who just clicked 17 mid November, 2016.

He looks huge, tall and has grown beards too.
He was just 16yrs and some months as of the time the shell Cup started.

If Obafemi Martins was older than his actual age when he started playing, I doubt he did still be kicking the ball.
Yea u are right,we have real guys who don't lie about their age.I remember a friend named Niyi Ogunlana from secondary school straight to old Kwara United and our age group in sec sch was 15-17 years. Also a friend Tolagbe Alanamu 16 years old then and still in sec school who was dropped at d last minute for celestine Babayaro(Japan 93)

For instance telling me Taiwo Awoniyi is over age,i w argue it to d letter that d boy is not coz i know him very well but to some people he is over age coz they always see Nigeria as a cheat.

We have many kids out there who are young and talented all w need is to tap them young. My son is just 7years,taller than 8,9,10 years old kids in d neighborhood and better footballer than his peers coz i introduced him to football at a very early stage.

Shockingly made the team as a defensive midfielder, I'm sure you could easily name another 4/5.
Well u are absolutely right but the local coaches are not d only culprits, their foreign counterparts are not left out.

Did you remember Emeka Ezeugu under westerhoff who had most of his career in India league but always making westerhoff team even to US 94.This is a guy that has nothing to show in his club career.

What of Mike Emenalo that made US 94 despite zero appearance for Einthract Trier a 2nd tier team in German league(93-94)though he had average W/C outing replacing injured Iroha at US 94.

Furo Iyenemi under Binfere Jo,despite always on the bench with Sion, made Sydney and afcon 2000 and his ability was always questionable. Also Chukwu Ndukwe under Bonfere Jo,despite zero appearance with Bari made afcon 2000,though scored in the final but making the team was questionable.

Also Sani Kaita under Thijs Libreght, this is a player that was loaned to three different clubs in a season 09-2010(locomotives Moscow, vladikavkaz, kharkiv)but still make d team to 2010 W/C.

Not forgetting how Joseph Dosu made the team to Atlanta 96,though had a good outing. The scenario concerning Dosu invitation was business like between Bonfere Jo and Churchill Olishe coz Dosu appearance at Atlanta w seal a deal with Regggiana fc which Churchill already brokered for Dosu.

There are a lot of things that happened behind d scene that w fans w find it difficult to believe coz there are some players till today Nigerians are wondering how they managed themselves into d team either under d local or foreign coach.

Don’t Blame Me For AFCON 2017 Qualification Failure, Blame Siasia

Former coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Sunday Oliseh has suggested that his replacement Samson Siasia should be blamed for Nigeria’s failure to qualify for AFCON 2017 and not him.

Nigeria used four coaches during their failed attempt to qualify for next year AFCON which will he holding in Gabon, with late coach Stephen Keshi starting the campaign with a 2-0 win over Chad before he was axed.

Following his sacking, Sunday Oliseh was appointed as coach of the team and handled them in just one game against Tanzania which ended 0-0, before throwing in the towel, three weeks to the group decider. The double header against Egypt.

Oliseh’s resignation lead to the employment of Samson Siasia as interim manager of the team for the games against Egypt. With Nigeria drawing 1-1 at home before losing 0-1 away to miss out on any chance of progressing to next year AFCON.

New manager Gernot Rohr completed the qualifying series for Nigeria beating Tanzania 1-0 in a dead rubber tie in Uyo, but while most Nigerians are blaming Oliseh. He inferred in a chat with a fan on social media that whoever handled the games against Egypt should be blamed.

A follower @Okparajokpara posted a tweet on his wall that reads ” Fans should blame the coach that failed to beat Egypt at the nations cup qualifiers and Oliseh winning ratio was fantastics”

Oliseh replied his post by saying ” Wow cheers & bravo, @Okparajokpara , I believe most Nigerians know this now. But as always there will always be a few loud exception”

"Foreign experts & I are puzzled to a rib breaking point, how a coach who had 80% success rate be called anything but successful” He concluded.

Ndidi actually failed MRI test and was banned subsequently for the CAF U17 championship with 2 other Nigerian players. Ghana and Ivory coast lost some players too due to MRI failure.

You will be making a huge mistake believing that everyone who went straight to Europe from local academies are young.
My brother, Premier league and national league clubs at the end of each season call for an open camp, where players from different academies and amateur clubs come and try out. The lucky 4 or 5 get signed up, out of those 5 maybe only 1 actually got signed up on merit. The rest got singed up due to normal naija man know man runs, padi padi and sometimes players come to camp cluching letters from senators or house of rep members.
The hands of coaches and club managers are usually tied because these clubs are actually owned by state governments. Player with such recommendations are given preferential treatments and get contracts in the end. The other players (usually in their 100s) go back to their amateur clubs and academies and wait for next open screening or contacts from little teams in Asia and obscure countries in Europe.
The following year the cycle contines, in an infinite loop so to say.

All in all, you can have a player who have played for an academy or been within the amateur rankings for more than 7years before getting any sort of attention. A friend of mine who is a professional goal keeper told me that lukman Haruna came for screening 3 previous U17 sets before he was considered and made the captain in 2007.
Haruna went from the academy system in Nigeria straight to Monaco. Am sure you get the picture.
I quite agreed with u but on Lukman Haruna i want to say your friend did not tell u d truth coz Haruna in one of his interviews said Mikel was his role model and i don't think a player that was in camp with Mikel in 2003 w called Mikel a role model.Though going to U17 camp thrice is a cheat but twice is understandable.

I believe going to U17 camp twice doesn't mean u are over age.I remembered a friend named Tolagbe Alanamu a secondary school boy then that was dropped for Celestine Babayaro at d last minute and also James Obiorah who was dropped coz he was too young but later captained 1995 U 17.

If u can recollect Kanu and Emma Babayaro were member of U 20 Mauritius 93 but later drafted to Japan bound U 17 93 by advice of Westerhoff to Fanny Amu.This doesn't portrayed them as an over aged coz Kanu still went ahead to have a wonderful career than any of his mate in Japan 93 squad.

Am not saying there is no over age but d way w always goes about it is not good for our players. It was on this Forum somebody was saying Seyi Olofinjana should be 45 years of age and i need to come out and said Seyi is not up to 40 coz w played sch football together, even player like Emma Olisadebe who played for Poland during 2002 world cup, this are guys i know very well coz w played sch football together.

Ndidi MRI failing doesn't mean d guy was 25 years old then, though i don't know his actual age but d guy is still young and there is no need to debate his age.

In d 80s and 90s i can say we are a cheater coz i can remembered vividly Nigeria was banned from age tournament due to age discrepancies on Andrew Uwe and Samson Siasia passports and it was discovered during seoul 88 due to this Nigeria did not participate in age group btw 1990/91.I can say from year 2000 to date, things improved better against age cheating.
