TheGoodJoe:
If anyone wants to talk about another young player like Yahaya, K. Nwakali, C. Nwakali, Osimhen, Awoniyi etc, the person can bring up the topic and people will chip in. If Solace Chukwu writes about his worries of Iheanacho at City, I do not see how talking about it derails the thread. It is a common occurrence on this thread of people to say stop talking about it. However, they forget that a discussion on something does not stop another from raising a topic.
So, Please, those who wants to talk about something else, can you raise the topic?

It sounded to me like the Real Slim Shady Please stand up.
 My man i remain silent,keep on firing all d cylinders,i get d absorbers. |

Iheanacho is a product of the NFF Academy, he's the poster boy for youth football in Nigeria. He progressed through OUR system, we didn't snatch him from England or Germany or wherever. We are all he's got Agreed Nacho is our project and poser boy but don't tell me we are doing a slave trade with our foreign born players!smiles |

Lazyerudite: I Thut I was the only one who observed that, one of the few reasons why I want no pressure on the team, we need to play teams who hold on to the ball and can attack very well so we can assess them more. Also need us to concede early in one of the friendlies to see how we react. Our bench defensive wise Is nothing to write home about. And I think Balogun and Troost to play more games together. Yes more games to the duo w boost their understanding and confidence but need to search for good back up.Honestly Balogun and Omeruo should have been d best but Omeruo lose of concentration sometimes is an issue, against Zambia d guy was a class but that slip w not allow any coach to gamble on him.I remember he did the same thing against South Africa,if not for this d guy is better than Ekong. |

The game against Cameroon will show us a lot, I also want us to remember that we needed defenders on our bench just in case someone gets injured Yes good defenders, not only on d bench but good ones that w give d regulars tough competition. I always like to re watch most Nigeria matches,i can say from Algeria match,w still have a long way to go in our defence, good right full back needed and work need to be done with our central defence especially Ekong who has to build his confidence, not forgetting most experience Eagles defender Elderson Echiejele, who need to always show consistencies in his game. |

Icon4s: Though I am not as passionate as TheGoodJoe is on this "nacho's" case. But I can tell you that Iheanacho has what it takes to remain relevant in that Mancity's attack. However, one major factor is if Pep can trust him well enough.
To be candid, I was almost as shocked as TheGoodJoe and safarigirl would have been when Gabriel Jesus found the back of the net in the 2-2 draw. I was like "Iheanacho own don finish" . Thank God that goal was ruled offside, it was also good news for me as a Gunner .
As you rightly stated, the next couple games would determine a lot. Yes he has what it takes, nobody is doubting that but as u said everything depends on Guardiola trust. |

komekn: Depends on the player it is not universal with all players. Ronaldo and Bale with thier huge pay cheques and multiple income streams continue to develop.
However, with regard to Kelechi he can train all he likes he will need continous game time to reach the next level. He is not on the same level as Aguero, if he doesn't get enough game time I can see Iwobi developing at a faster rate and leaving him behind.
Nigeria will not be waiting for him to develop when there are new strikers knocking on the door. U are on point, let him continue enjoying d drilling and lesson from Guardiola and player like Iwobi continue enjoying d playing time under Wenger. The next 5 games w determined may be Nacho w be part of city next season coz not included, then is gone for good either loan or outright sale. I know d young man is not happy right now coz when u are not injured and excluded from d main squad, then something is amiss, forget all this theories of drilling or developments without enough playing time. One thing w should note is this, his present development is not good for his career at super eagles coz a lot of young players are knocking d door and Rohr have said it repeatedly that he want first team player,so Nacho cannot be exceptional even Mikel with all his experience went to china to get playing time. I pray that Nacho find his way back to the team coz his talent is not for drilling or lesson under d guise of working under Guardiola. If Sterling is in Nacho shoe did anybody think England w be happy in d guise of developing under Guardiola. My man good point from you coz you understand d game and your analytical on this issue is superb. |

TheGoodJoe:
That is understandable. When Aguero or Bony injured or not performed well, Nacho got to play because Pellegrini plays with two top strikers. That is all. Now we play with one under Guardiola. Simple.
I have said repeatedly, this is the time for development, not glory. A year or two under Guardiola will give him that development. After that, glory.
I said this before Guardiola joined City. pls can u analyse d development that w take a year or two for Nacho to mature as a player. Pls do not forget that Super Eagle can not wait for Nacho to develop for a year or two while player like Iwobi is becoming a force to reckon with under a world class coach like Wenger. |

I think d last time I heard t was during Oliseh's era. Our local coaches need to upgrade their approach to d game.
Nonetheless, in d line of bringing in young players into d National team we must not forget to prioritize players club performance, d quality of league division de play in.

Iwobi, Balogun, Ekong, Ikeme, Onazi,Etebo, Moses, Omeruo... 8 of the starting 11 in our last game are regulars at their clubs..
As regards talented keepers, Ikeme, Nwokolor, Alampasu, Francis Uzoho, Emmanuel Daniel.. Some of these keepers are far from being ready but they can understudy Ikeme for the next 5 years.
We have amazing talents abound.. Watching Gent's match at the moment with Samuel Kalu, Ekong and Moses starting.. U nailed it. |

Lazyerudite: Sometimes we speak as if we have so many talented goalkeepers out there. What club does Ikeme as for sef? We don't have that much talents abound o. If we are waiting for a goal keeper who will face Barça etc we will wait for ages, even our outfield players are struggling to get shirt in their clubs let alone keepers. I don't care what club you play for, can you offer the super eagles what we need. If so, kindly come and showcase your talent. Look closely, most our players don't even play 90mins for their clubs. We need to make do with what we have Yes Ikeme is playing for championship club with over 15 years experience which is valuable to Eagles.Nobody is waiting for a keeper that w face Brazil or Germany,Enyeama as Enyimba NO 1 has proved us wrong by having a great match against England at 2002 W/C. Alampasu is young and talented but playing for div 3 w not do him a favour in d super eagles selection,he need to raise his bar to be considered for such huge tasks. If he was ready Rohr w not went for Akpeyi when Ikeme was injured before Algeria match. On Eagles players not having 90 mins in their various club sides, well i don't know how u arrived at that point coz d present Eagles players are having nice outings with their various clubs and is a plus having players in Man city,Arsenal,Chelsea just to mention a few. |

We don't believe in giving youths the chance to prove themselves, if not for the vision of the coach people like iheanach and iwobi will not be ripe enough, the talented no 1s will fade out. We need to continuously invite young ones and try them. Remember that the real ages of these players is questionable. So we are bound to create another gap after these ones age The discussion is on Alampasu,is he ready for Eagles challenge.Pls read my post very well,am not against young ones coming up or making d team but not a player playing in div 3 in Europe. |

TheGoodJoe: I tilted to the nod of Rohr. He watched Emma at the Olympics but chose, I think Ezenwa to camp. Remember, Rohr watched the NPFL stars Spanish tour. If Alampasu outclassed Ezenwa in camp, then I feel Alampasu is the better option.
I still believe in camping and if Emma can do better than Alampasu in camp, then he will get my nod. I do not think so and my heart lies with Alampasu. Honestly your philosophy on camping is over exaggerated,d efficiency of camping is always for academy or under age like U 17 or U 20 but senior team, camping is just to fix grey areas, for instance Eagles Right full back position or DM where w now have Ndidi and Onazi competing coz it w hard for Rohr to decide on whom to pick. The senior team like national team is not a place where u throw everything open for grab,a good coach must have his first eleven to his chest, though one or two player might pull surprise by breaking into d team e.g.Etebo against Algeria. No matter what happened before Cameroon match,i can tell u that 90% of those who prosecuted Algeria match w make d team.So camping sometimes in d senior team doesn't give rooms like under age camping where u are looking for d best. On goalkeeping aspect,if i may ask u do u think Ikeme convinced Olishe during camping?NO.Olishe already see Ikeme as his No 1 choice irrespective of Enyeama performance in camp.Guardiola came in and said Bravo is d No1 over Hart,Mourinho rate Coutious over Chec, this decision is personal not camp decision. It was on this thread i said it took Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer to 2002 W/C who was my university coach just 15 mins to rate Enyeama than Ejide,so sometimes camping does it in d senior team when u are having issues. Alampasu is a young talented keeper coming up with a great prospect and wit time he w reach their but for now Super Eagles number 1 is not for a keeper keeping in Portuguese div 3,is an insult to our national team. |

Ikeme naturally is d No 1 and Ezenwa was d best at home front, this gave d duo advantage and Rohr needed a young keeper that w under study Ikeme which gave Alampasu and Emma a chance but at d last minute he opted for Alampasu coz he can't have two home based keeper who are on break in a team. |

tbaba1234: I watched Ezenwa in the spanish invitational and he was a disaster. Good reflexes but poor keeping fundamentals. That is the story of many African keepers. They are good with shot stopping but lack positioning, can't deal with crosses etc. So they might impress you with a save but look closely.
Watch the highlights of the Spanish invitational, you will see that Ezenwa was at fault for many goals conceded.
I rate Afelokai above Ezenwa/Akpeyi but i do not know of his current form. He seems to be more balanced than the others. I love your highlights on African goalkeepers, they are talented but lack d basic things about goalkeeping. This remind me of how Enyeama came into national team and displaced Ejide through a friendly match against club side and nailed it with his performance against Kenya in a friendly. He was rated ahead of Ejide just coz of his positioning and composure at d goalposts. I had d opportunity of asking d super eagle goalkeeper trainer to 2002 W/C who happened to be my university coach, why Enyeama over Ejide,he said he took him just 15 mins to tell Coach Onigbinde that this is d guy(Enyeama)to deputise for Shorunmu. I asked 15 mins for u to decide,he said a good goalkeeper is easy to identify irrespective of d opposition, though Ejide had top rated friendly matches while Enyeama had just a Kenya match. He said if not for experience,Enyeama should have be d No 1 keeper at d world cup at d expense of Shorunmu. |

Icon4s: I beg to disagree. Do you recall Ejide kept Enyeama on the bench at the 2008 AFCON?
Ayenugba too was not so far of.
The difference between the 3 is Enyeama improved more in his later years while Ejide and Ayenugba regressed. At the peak of we having the 3 three of them Enyeama was just slightly better. Yes Enyeama improved greatly than d duo.I remember Enyeama was d 2nd choice to Dele Aiyenugba in his first season at Enyimba before he displaced Dele d following season till he left Enyimba, also displaced Ejide at d national team, though Ejide came back strongly during Vogts time coz Vogts believed in Ejide's height but it was glaring that Enyeama was a better keeper. The trio started with no much difference but as u said Enyeama improved tremendously while Ejide and Dele couldn't keep d tempo. At d later stage d gap was just too wide and it was obvious they cannot match Enyeama. On Ikeme back up,well u said no much difference between Afelokai,Akpeyi,Ezenwa but i believe with more searching a good goalkeeper can be discovered in our league.Enyeama wasn't prominent in our league when he was discovered by coach Fanny Amu. On Alampasu,Daniel Emmanuel good for them to understudy Ikeme but w they be ready before W/C?As i said urgent attention is needed coz what w passed through before Algeria match due to Ikeme injury was nauseating. |

Icon4s: My brother, I understand ur view on this issue. We thank God that we have some1 like Ikeme who quickly filled the gap Enyeama created. I don't doubt whether Afelokai might be better than Ezenwa and Akpeyi. But, also I dnt think Akpeyi and Ezenwa are not that bad backs-ups for Ikeme. I am sure our goal keeper trainers know Afelokai very well and if they deem it fit to invite him they should go ahead.
But has it come to ur notice that African countries are curently generally lacking in the goal keeping department.I remember the days when Cameroun would boast of Antwan Bell and Thomas Nkono, Nigeria was boasting of Peter Rufai, Ghana was boasting of Edward Ansah, Zambia had Edward David Chabala. Ivory Coast had Allain Gouamene, Egypt had one fine goalie back then...Mohammed something, (The one that baosted to Yekini that he would not score against him at Tunia '94), forgotten his name. Well, gone are the days.
Rufai, during his era was Nigeria's best goalie ever but was not adjudged Africa's best but Enyeama during his era was by far Africa's best goalie. That tells the story. Agreed but a better cover up than Akpeyi,Ezenwa is needed for Ikeme coz d gap just too wide, how i wish Enyeama is still available for selection,as u said Africa are in dearth of goalkeepers now but i believe we can still get a good one especially in Nigeria league for Eagles. |

Icon4s: I have watched Afelokai too. But I cannot tell u he is better than Ezenwa or Akpeyi. Did you see Ezenwa at the Spain invitational tourney a few months back? Plus Ezenwa is also a delight to watch in the NPFL. Talking about Afelokai's composure, if he was the one in goal against Algeria in Uyo we would really have assessed how composed he is. It's not necessary to be Algeria match or any top rated match,Enyeama pushed Ejide aside through mere friendly match against Nigeria club side whereas Ejide has been having a top class friendlies but always shaken.Did u know that d first top class match Enyeama had in d national team was against England at d W/C. Tetzrum threw this up coz it seems we have only Ikeme for now and other keepers have not be able to live up to expectations and bringing keepers from obscure leagues or a third division is uncalled-for when we have keepers in Nigeria league performing every wk. Rohr should put his search lights on Nigeria league may be he can see a good one who can cover up for Ikeme,it was obvious that w lack quality back up for Ikeme.Honestly am not insisting on Afelokai but i believe quality one can be discovered just like d way Enyeama was discovered. |
