We live in a country whereby most of the degrees we acquired do not correlate with our jobs. I graduated from the Department of Political science & International relations, but I currently work in a heavy equipment operator training firm where I am earning well. Most of our trainee operators earn more than what some firms or banks can pay their employees in a month. We have trained Ph.D. holders, masters, and even BSc graduates to operate heavy machinery. Therefore, working in a company or a bank as an accountant does not mean good pay. some bank workers are earning between 50k to 100k depending on their duties and ranks. Maybe he is earning more as a laborer.

Hello how are you, Good day to you. Happy weekend. I will be glad and excited if you can help me to get employment into your current occupation as I am urgent in need of change of job. God bless you.

I am sorry am just doing a response to this question, but I know it will help someone.

I did my kiosk and painting for 70k(August 2020). I got a good space with the help of God and paid 28k for one year rent. I got my first machine for 65k(you don't need to buy an expensive machine like that) I later bought a machine for 20k and it's the terminal doing the magic till today.

I did wiring and fan for 10k. I did banner and branding for 7k. I bought the plank I placed on the gutter I put my kiosk on and its workmanship for 15k. They're actually very strong ones and a still enjoying them till today. People pass on it every minutes (not necessarily my customers alone).

I started the business with 150k capital. I will put 50k in the machine and put 100k in my hand. The story has changed today. As I type, I've over 900k cash with me, not to talk of what I've in my terminals.

You can always ask me your questions or send a message via Nairaland.

Hello Thanks for the response. I have learnt a lot from your write up and I wish to a have further discussion with you, I will be glad if you can share your mobile number with me so that we can continue our conversation through WhatsApp. Thanks so much. God Bless you.

If only Buhari and the fellow 36 governors of the federation could hear Nigerians cry and enact a law stating any Yahoo boy caught should be shot dead on spot or some of em summarily conscripted into the Army and sent to the war front, maybe things can start changing for the better amongst our Youth.

Oh I so miss Gen Sani Abacha, Allah rest his soul.

Buhari and fellow 36 governors should rather enact a law that finds any public office holder person culpable of embezzling public funds.

I did some IT training(CCNA, Mobile app development and I also learn SQL), later on, I got an internship role on data analyst(because of my little or no SQL skills) and without getting paid for like 1 good year.

The experience I gathered during my internship is what is paying off now.
I'm almost at the edge of being a Machine Learning Engineer

I've also worked for like 3 top companies in Nigeria.

The only time my education certificate features is when I have accepted the companies offer, and I am call me for documentation

Wow This is great. for sometimes I have tried to learn some I.T Skills but in the course of learning the skills I always got discouraged. This sadden my heart, I wish to take the opportunity of the current trend of Tech Skills domination of job markets, Though I do not have I.T academics background maybe that is the reason of poor understanding of Tech skills.

Brother, you've taken the right decision. What if you later retake the course and you get below A? then you will graduate with 2.2.
It happens to me then in LAUTECH, guess what? till now that i have been working, i haven't use my certificate to work, and i'm leaving confortably

no matter what, "what will be will surely be" regardless of your grade. Just try and add value to yourself.

Hello Good day, I hope you wont take this as an offense, as you said earlier that you haven't use your certificate to work. So I am curious to know what you are into, I mean the skill that is currently fetching you income. It will serve as motivation to people that got low grade in the Uni.

Young man better used that extra one year to go and enhance you degree by enrolling in a masters programme...there are tons of 2.1s and First class products littered over the job market with nothing to hold on to.

So is it Master Cert that will get him a Good job ?

LOL. 1 m? You are disconnected from the Nigerian reality. You have to climb off your high horse and smell the coffee.

There are families of four five six who live on less than 100k per month. And they are not dieing.

There is a cloth for every size.

BTW, how many people get jobs that pay 400k? Let's just be grateful. What you have (no matter how small) is wealth to others...

I just tire. It seem some people are not aware of the current situation of the country when we are talking about getting Good jobs that pays well in Nigeria.

Many people do not earn up to that amount and they did have the house of their own. The koko is for you to cut your expenses to barest minimum level, if i earn such amount in a month i will conveniently save 200k from it every month

It all depends sir, if the masters you want to do is in this country Nigeria, sir I advice better take thelat job. Before Masters is to give you an edge over other candidates in the job markets but now it's become so saturated that employers don't even value them no more. So why not take up the job and do a part time masters program?

But

If the MSc is outside the country and you have enough funds/sponsors to cover all expenses I would say you go for the master outside the country. After your program you would have more opportunities with the work permit you would be issued, compared to this country. Just my own opinion.

Again if the masters is in this country forget it and take up that job. I know someone with masters that's a gate man. I know someone with a 2.1 BSc. That his boss wife just called stupid yesterday.

I hope this is not true, how on earth will a master holder become a gate man ? That’s absolutely ridiculous

Aunty, no vex, but it's the gospel truth. I'm 28, have a decent job, earn around 250k a month. Getting a decent girl for a healthy relationship is hard, believe me I have tried. The ones you meet will expect you to compete with yahoo boys. Like I can comfortably take care of a woman, but I'm not going to buy a phone worth my 2 months salary, it makes zero sense to me.
At the end I'm labeled 'stingy'. The average Nigerian lady, expecially the Gen Z and millinials want to date fraudsters, that's the simple truth. They don't care how the money comes, as long as you can buy iPhone.

I rarely comment on here, but I need to do this for you. I will advise you to change the circle of female friends you mingle with, we have many Nigerian guys that do not earn up to your salary but they do have a steady relationship. Try to go for sensible lady that will aid your career progression not someone that will be draining your finances in the quest of you being a responsible guy. Shalom.

They are even taking pictures. Why do black leaders get no shame at all? You were a Governor for 8yrs, you've been at the corridor of power for over 30yrs and you are proud being under medical watch in another country.

Honestly, something is fundamentally wrong with black people. We couldn't even be proud of just one black nation that can be classified as advanced nation.

May God bless you for this, it’s more painful that some guys on here still drumming support for an individual like Tinubu, despite the fact he performed woefully when he was the Governor. Though this is not surprising to me. It’s glaring that Cruel, Evil ppl are the set of individuals that thrive in Nigeria, in a sane society by now a man like Tinubu supposed to be behind bar or executed because of his enormous atrocities.

A hotel job is the least paid job in Nigeria. You can work 10 years without promotion and salary increment. The only way you can make extra income is by tips from customers or runs.
As beautiful as this hotel is,a waiter and barman might be earning #15 or #18k a month.A cook or supervisor is between #25 and #30k.This is even ikotun not Vi.It can even be less.

But I am certain the story will be different in Sheraton, protea, and other big international hotels

To be honest, I don't know. A lot of people dive into programming, which takes time to learn and become competent at. The person I spoke about while above average as a programmer, had invested his time experimenting on a variety of IT stuff. He currently works as a Linux System admin (which still doesn't pay as much as Programming), but he was very vast. He researched different IT solutions as a hobby. School management solution? He could recommend at least three cost effective solutions for me.to evaluate. Learning Management System? He knew about 5 open source solutions to look at. Business Management Software aka ERP? He could mess around with at least 3. Telephony software? At the drop of a hat he told me of at least 4. All of these ran on Linux so in messing around with them, his Linux Admin skills was being developed. Will this work for everyone? No. But it has worked for him

Hello how are you, Thanks for the response though I have put in efforts in learnings some I.T skills but in the process of learning them I always get discouraged, I don't know maybe because my I.T background is poor the reason I have am finding it difficult to become guru in one of these IT skills.

It's terrible man. I have a "smallie" I was mentoring. Worked in IT for a small finance company. Was getting paid those funny figures. Got a remote job. His two weeks pay at his new role was equivalent to 7 months pay at his Finance Company job. To rephrase that, he earned in 2 weeks (while in training o!) what he would have earned in 7 months doing brain draining work, hopping in traffic, and generally being misused.

what kind of IT skill should someone learn, that will have a good turnover in short period
