Newsextra014: On July 13, 2020, Joy Nunieh, a former acting managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), alleged that she slapped Godswill Akpabio for sexually harassing her, TheCable reports.
Nunieh made the allegation during an interview on Arise TV.
Akpabio, the incumbent senate president, was minister of Niger Delta affairs at the time.
During the interview, Nunieh said the incident occurred at Akpabio’s guest house in Abuja, the country’s capital.
The ex-acting MD had said her reaction to the alleged harassment from Akpabio proved her intolerance for “nonsense” as a woman from Rivers state.
Akpabio had denied the sexual harassment allegation through a statement issued by his media aide.
BACKGROUND
Prior to the allegation, Nunieh and Akpabio had made the headlines following the activities of the senate ad hoc panel investigating the alleged mismanagement of N40 billion by the interim management committee of the NDDC.
Akpabio had told the panel that he knew nothing about the expenditure of the NDDC under Nunieh because she refused to hand him briefings.
But Nunieh alleged that the minister engineered her removal for failing to follow his “illegal orders”.
Nunieh also alleged that Akpabio asked her to change the dollars in the NDDC account, sack the head of the legal team who is from the north, remove all directors who refused to follow his instructions, and to also implicate Peter Nwaoboshi, chairman of the senate committee on NDDC.
On Friday, February 28, 2025, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, senator representing Kogi central, alleged that her troubles in the upper legislative chamber began after she rejected Akpabio’s sexual advances.
Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan recently engaged in a heated debate on the floor of the upper legislative chamber over a change in seating arrangements.
Callmedondee: Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has built a reputation as a fearless politician unafraid to challenge the status quo. From her battles with former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello (GYB) to her recent clashes with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, her political journey has been anything but conventional. However, a pattern seems to be emerging—one where allegations of harassment become a recurring tool in her arsenal against powerful male figures in Nigerian politics.
The GYB Saga: A Prelude to the Akpabio Controversy
Months ago, Akpoti-Uduaghan made headlines with her public confrontation with Yahaya Bello. She accused the former governor of orchestrating electoral violence and political intimidation against her. While many saw her as a courageous opposition figure, some critics argued that she skillfully played the victim card to gain public sympathy.
What stood out in that episode was the subtle but effective use of gender narratives to paint her opponent as a tyrant. The portrayal of a “strong woman against oppressive men” resonated with many Nigerians, particularly those sympathetic to the struggles of women in politics. However, detractors viewed it as a well calculated strategy designed to shift focus from political realities to emotional sentiments.
Enter Godswill Akpabio: A Familiar Tactic?
Fast forward to 2025, and a new controversy is brewing—this time with Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Reports suggest that Akpoti-Uduaghan has accused him of inappropriate behavior, reviving an old script that critics believe is part of her political playbook.
Those who support her argue that she is simply exposing the deep-rooted misogyny in Nigerian politics. They see her as a trailblazer fighting for women’s rights in a system dominated by men who would rather suppress female voices.
On the flip side, her detractors believe this is nothing more than another well-orchestrated attempt to manipulate public perception. They point out that Akpoti-Uduaghan has consistently used similar claims whenever facing political resistance from powerful male figures. Some go as far as to suggest that these allegations serve as a distraction from real governance issues, ensuring that she remains in the media spotlight while shifting public discourse in her favor.
Political Strategy or Genuine Advocacy?
The question now is whether Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is a genuine advocate for justice or a shrewd politician who has mastered the art of leveraging gender politics to her advantage.
If her accusations are true, then Nigerian politics has a serious problem that must be addressed. However, if these are merely tactics to undermine her political rivals, then it raises concerns about the exploitation of real issues for personal gain.
Whatever the case may be, one thing is clear: Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is not a politician to be underestimated. She understands the power of public sentiment and has shown time and again that she knows how to use it to her advantage. Whether this will work in her favor in the long run or eventually backfire remains to be seen.
What do you think? Is Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan a fearless fighter for justice or a political opportunist playing the gender card?
Osazeidehen: My issue with Akpabio started on 8th of December, 2023. When myself and my husband visited Akwa Ibom for Senator Akpabio’s birthday. Akpabio was showing me around his house and was holding my hands with my husband following behind us when he said, he wants me to come and be spending special moments in his house. My husband heard him and later told me not to travel abroad alone or be with the Senate President alone — Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on Arise TV Morning Show today
Thank you for the information, it gear worked perfectly before i ntoticed oil leakage underneath
lyort: if the gear works properly before the disassembly, i don't think there should be a problem with the converter except if he wants to replace it due to dirty transmission oil already living inside the converter which can contaminate the new oil. but if he has to reuse it he should ensure the sleeve of the support shaft that goes into the oil pump/gearbox is smooth or shiny silver and not brown (like its burnt due to overheating)
My gearbox (yaris 08) was leaking oil, the gear master said it was gearbox oil pump and converter. Replaced the oil pump, but couldn't get the converter at ladipo. Can the converter be repaired?? Because no sign its spoilt, pls help

Fapemz: Buy Lithium battery or keep your money ....avoid lead acid battery like plague. it is like using Symbian phone when android can serve better plus lead acid are like a drain on the pocket now as most users have to replace their battery every 3 year or less where Lithium can serve you for up to 10years. For your intended need, the Lithium battery will be just fine Sir. I assemble lithium battery as powerbank for laptop and inverter battery for homes and the customer review are amazing to say the least.
We have mopower 850va 12V inverter with 200ah 12v battery and 200watt 24v solar panel connected. want to add battery 100ah 12v, do I connect in *series or parallel* ??
Not exactly true, below 600w panel array...using mppt doesn't make sense. however you should be aware that 200w panel cant charge your 200ah battery full in a day..be it mppt or pwm charger . 600w panel is recommended for each 200ah 12v battery you have...ie in an offgrid scenario. you cud getby with less, if you have nepa supporting coming in
Good morning great minds, I have a 200watt 24v solar panel installed/connected to a 200ah 12V battery and sunrise controller PWM (30/20/10A - 12/24V). Someone Saw it and said I must change controller to Mppt to balance the load. Is he correct?? What mppt type & price please?
