Hello engineers, yesterday a client came to me with this problem, first the roof is very high as you can see from the picture, it rained the day before with strong wind.... What are your inputs to remedy the problem? And where did they go wrong in the first place?

1. It's simply the Struts.. Not well sized or supported.

2. improper transmission of roof load.. struts are supposed to be resting on roof beams.

The support couldn't handle the load.. If we follow the olden days way of roof support,

That's why alot of roofs cave in.

Laterite loads from Toll gate and from there to your site in Ring road is not too stretchy.

This location is back of IITA... you can ask your supplier how much he'll take for a truck there.

Do u have a separate DB for inverter/solar? If YES that means he is using the 6mm for the single phase DB. If NO there is no need of 6mm red

Yiu can negotiate the labour, quite high.

Also, I can't see earth cable for the distribution board in the quote, is he using 1.5mm green to earth the building, minimum size he can use is 4mm/6mm. IEE and British standard says not less than half of the load cable should be used as earth cable becos. It serves as neutral if your neutral fails

So the minimum sizing for Earthing is 4mm?

Also for a socket where 2.5mm is used, 1.5mm can be used as the neutral, right?

If in-situ Parapet alone costs about 1.5 million (granite alone is 400k +) does this mean Woodwork and Roof cover will cost 2 million naira?

I think he asked for “average man‘s standard.” He might likely get a carcass of a standard 3 bedroom flat if he’s rugged and smart.

I did +/- I realize he’d only require a little more than his budget to get a carcass of his proposed development in Ìbàdàn.

If we (through Govt Affordable Housing Project) can deliver carcass of 2 unit of 2 bed (expandable to 3 bed) with 5.5m in 2020, now 7m (Contractor’s profit and other things included), I’m confident he can have something good at N3.5m but he has to handle it like an average man left with no option.

You have the advantage of Economies of scale based on the number of units..

I'm also not trying to discourage him but to manage his expectation vis-a-vis quality of output.
