@ Belexy, i agree with you, but presently i dont know much about formulating local feeds and to be honest the comparative cost advantage will need to really be much for me to consider adding local, cos if i consider all the wahala of trying to source the various ingredient with constant fluntuation of price and scarcity of some of the ingredient it just sometimes discourage someone, and when you want to run a smooth operation with consistency the last thing you need is the unavailabilty of some key vital ingredient. even maggot that is almost free the wahala of that one sef no be small thing, how many fowl shiiiiit i go carry and store to become maggot for me to feed between 2000 to 5000 ( assuming thats someone stocking level) on a consistent basis agreed it could act as a supplement.

@ Komakan, thanks, i agree with you but anyone who is lying is only deceiving themselves, so far majority of the farmer here have been honest, posting but their success and failures, if you like go and take a photograph of a shark and put it here to say your fingerlings don grow reach shark size in 2 months, we will just be laughing at you lol but on a serious note its needless to falsify stuff cos no one know you face to face so its your business.

On a final note, we are currently negotiating a supply deal with an eatery, they want us to be supplying them between 70 to 100kg every two weeks, the gurus in the house what will be the frequency of stocking to be able to cater for these kind demand and is it feasible, the price they are offering seems reasonable at 500 naira per kg. i will also ask this question in the question and answer section on agricnetwork.

Some of the 30 fishes I separated for use as broodstock are showing good prospect. On weighing them yesterday we had 1.8 kg, 1.5 kg and 1kg and they completed 4 months yesterday. This is really surprising.. about 5 of them weight 1.8 kg we were experimenting with floating food only.. coppen and i can now confirm that it is almost possible to have more than 1 kg fish between 4 to 5 months without local feeds.

This is fantastic! But most of our farmers here are not saying the truth. Im not refering to you. ..just like that.

This is why if u are expecting to havest 2000 pieces of fishes in an eathen pond at d end of d day. I will advice u stock between 2500 to 3000 pieces. And for mortality record in an earthen pond to my observation whenever u see like two floating dead fishes expect more than two sinking dead ones.

Pls, get them out of ur pond otherwise they will eat more than enough. There was a time i counted d small ones of abt (9) in my pond infact it was terrible.

In summary
1. It shows we are all one big family and need more information to succeed on this journey whilst keeping in touch as mates even in America.
2. Those who argued against creation of the new thread, said so not to abandon this current one while those in support share that too, but in addition, they considered rules guiding posting on Nl as well.
What prompts me to suggest a thread for ‘that’ purpose are:
I Observed that
1. Most of members who have had their visas approved are not that active on the thread unlike their activities before interview except very few of them. Do u notice that too?
2. This thread, ‘2014 Dv winners meet here’ deals with necessary process needed to have a successful interview
3. The thread; ‘Diversity visa immigrant? Welcome to America’ contains information we need after arriving America (I have been a regular poster there too, pls read). Hence, the stage between Successful approval of visa and Arrival in USA has not been comprehensively discussed like the two mentioned threads.
4. Most of 2013 people do try their best to assist on information there but work don’t give them that total freedom as in my personal chat with some of them to ensure they contribute regularly on 2014 thread, you will hear something like ‘You wouldn’t understand until you get here, because time is money here in America, but I do reply those who mailed me’ my concern is what happen to people who don’t have their mail but need such info too?
5. There is need to graduate the processes, which I believe will keep us together. Say
a. 2014 Dv winners meet here; process towards interview
b. Yet to be created thread; planning Migration after successful Interview
c. Diversity visa immigrant? Welcome to America; settling down in USA
My submission
1. I appeal and promise that this thread will not suffer as a result of graduated process
2. Having a graduated process will bond us together the more and give each segment a full sense of belonging
3. There will not be deviation from Subject matters of each thread; hence NL rule will be kept.
Conclusion
I have no inferior motive behind creation of the thread and don’t think NL pays those who have created topics before, so my motive is to enable us rub mind together on every stage of the process to avoid extortions and exploitations by Agents.
Therefore, I suggest that if anybody could edit this topic; ‘Preparation for Migration after Diversity visa Approval’ before it’s finally created, I will appreciate it.

You are very right. D last time I travelled to US, Dallas Texas to visit my sister, there was an issue like that. A man was stranded in America with his family but with d help of God my sister used her documents to secured a room apartment for them. Honestly, you hardly see who will give out a penny in America. It's not everything one must talk. Americans will meet you on d way and smile but they are deadly. We are not organise here in Nigeria that is only problem. Anyway, everyone has his/her own luck. ItyRoyal: @Obatide: first of all i want to thank you for this ingenuity....the mere fact that you are thinking ahead shows you have the welfare of our people at heart. however, i must say that i love the opinions of my fellow forumites. the ones for and the ones against creating a new thread. But let's attempt to marry the two schools of thought in these summaries....
1. the forumites that don't want a new thread are saying so because they don't want to miss out from the rich experience of others that have scaled thru interview and would be more concerned with the issues Obatide raised. in other words, they still prefer every info/forumites here as one family without diversion of attention and focus.
2. those that want a new thread created are also saying so not because they want to get out of this thread...but because they want the originality of this thread preseverved, and the focus to remain helping forumites out with interview preparations and success.

My Opinion:
1. We cannot overemphasis the usefulness of this thread to the several DV winners so this thread with all contributors should remain until the last forumite is interviewed successfully.
2. the suggested thread may be created to address those very important issues raised in Obatide's write up while we are still here. it will help eliminate unnecessary mix up and confusion if it is created to discuss different issues and also serve as a forum that would still unite us after 2014 immigrants have all moved to the States.
3. i want to make a special plea not just to Obatide but to all other forumites especially those that have successfully had their interviews not to abandon this thread for those of us that are yet to be current. Let the new thread be like a resource centre where we go and get specific info about any post interview need..............it's just my opinion!

I've been following this thread from the very first page till now cos I'm hopefully going to open my own poultry farm soon. I noticed no one has said anything about spacing intervals for broilers per batch . I meant to start with 1000 birds but the vet I visited to contract for my farm advised I start smaller with about 500 birds, then gradually increase, but I have thought about it over again and Im assuming it will be better to start up with say 200 or 300 birds and add another batch after 3 weeks and another after another 3 weeks till I get a full cycle. I feel that way it will be better and easier to meet with the constant needs of a particular customer and cash shortage wont be a recurrent issue as opposed to stocking all 1000 birds or more at once and waiting for months to sell and restock and start the wait all over again. The experienced ones should pls shed more light.

My friend that got his pullets d same day wit me saw egg 2days before they clock 18wks,dis is cos he started giving them light in the evening on time thereby fforcing them to lay early which I heard is not good. I ve started giving them light in d night 7-9pm gradually I will introduce light all nite.

EVERY BODY COULD REMEMBER his/her FIRST EVER POST/READING ON NAIRALAND as evidence of my claim.
In view of this, I suggest we present issues here for different opinion and suggestions (There is safety in multitude of cancel) then PM any member you wished to have personal chat with, this will make the thread grow the more and serves as Reference to future members.
However as G2glory points, We should look beyond issues of interview and discuss FLIGHT BOOKING, CARRER IN USA, ACCOMODATION, HOW TO SETTLE IN QUICKLY and so on, to make the forum more lively
