THE COST OF LIVING IN NIGERIA IS THE CHEAPEST YOU CAN GET IN ANY PART OF THE WORLD. I'VE BEEN TO BENIN, TOGO, GHANA N FEW OTHER WEST AFRICAN COUNTRIES AND I CAN BOLDLY SAY THIS. IN BENIN (ESPECIALLY COUNTRIES MAKING USE OF CFA) THE COST OF COMMODITIES EVEN RENT/UTILITY BILLS IS ON THE HIGH SIDE. FUNNY ENOUGH, YOU CAN'T GET GOOD FOOD WITH 500CFA. IN BENIN, BOTTLE WATER (MEDIUM SIZE) GOES FOR 300CFA N A BOTTLE OF BEER GOES FOR 1000CFA WHICH IS EQUIVALENT TO NAIRA. I'M NOT SAYING THIS TO DISCOURAGE ANYONE BUT TRUTH BE TOLD, SOMEONE EARNING 90,000CFA OVER THERE ISN'T BETTER THAN ONE EARNING 30,000NAIRA HERE. THE MONEY BIG OH BUT E GO FLOW LIKE GAS PLANT WEY GET LEAKAGE. TOO QUICK N EASY TO SPEND. NO VALUE FOR IT OVER THERE.

IT'LL BE A DIFFICULT TASK ADJUSTING TO THE ENVIRONMENT MOST ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU RENT AN APARTMENT.
You're absolutely spot on bro. A colleague of mine, who is currently in Cameroon at the moment to cover the on going AFCON said " a satchet of pure water cost CFA 100 = N100.... Omo...I wan' craze...its bad

One thing I know about police is that, they hate it when you try to teach them their Job.
Police people are very considerate.
I prefer make police arrest me than any other road official lastma the worst of them all.
Let me share my experience on the first of January 2022, so I was going to Apapa from mile 2, so I had to follow one-way bridge that leads to beger car depot, Naso police officer stop me.

Police: so you carry international rice for local bag.
Me: Oga check am Na, I just buy this rice for market yesterday.
When they saw that no other offence to trap me with, they now came back to the beginning.
Police: Oga why you pass one way
Me: I dey go Apapa and them block all the road so Na here dey close to me.
Police: but Oga you for go follow Alaba suru Na
Me: no vex abeg Na this place near me pass and No vex happy new year.

Baba, it's when you get into trouble and they help you, that's when you will know police is your friend.

Some years back when I drove someone's car on bolt, I picked this lady from phase 2 Lekki, she was going to "bourdilon"
I paid 300 at Lekki Ikoyi link bridge and when I got to the round about, the car stopped. Noticed it was fuel, cos the gauge was faulty. I begged the woman to chill for me to buy fuel, she refused and told me to end trip. I ended it and it came to 1200 or so. She said she will never give me 1200 cos I didn't get to her destination. She brought out 500 naira and I told her to go with it. The police guys at the round about came and asked me what happened. I told them and they told her to give me 1k. She refused. They said they would take us both to the station and they will make it a case. She eventually dropped 1k and they told me to take it.

When I took bike to buy fuel, I didn't have any gallon. I met a guy at the filling station that gave me a 20/25 litre keg. After buying the fuel, he followed me on bike to collect his keg. After putting the fuel in the tank, I gave him 800( the change with me) this guy refused and said his money is 2k. We argued and the police guys at the round about came again. When they heard what happened, they told the guy that if he doesn't collect that 800 Sharp sharp, they would collect it and I will leave here free and nothing would happen. The guy collected the money angrily and left.

I went to them later and thanked them. Told them I don't have cash on me again. They said I should not worry, that I should go n fix my fuel gauge

Dem take the 10k after so much talk and just leaving now demoralized
Yes...its normal. You we surely be demoralized because you failed to challenge the status quo. This life will not give you what you deserve unless you enforce your best out of it. I'm sorry, I do not know the level of your education, exposure and all, but it matters in present day Nigeria.

You were asking for police plug the other time, how do you think those that have network with the police got it? Its mostly through challenge. Let me tell you bro, to make it in Nigeria... You must be ready yo challenge the system. If you perish you perish - Esther 4:16

My cottage shop was locked up on Thursday sometime in 2013, with padlocks of all sort, for breach of environmental sanitation laws. The shop was locked up hurriedly on Thursday even before the time lapses 10.a.m. Then , I was residing in Ibafo and my shop was along yaya abatan, Ogba.

The Ijaiye LG quickly cooked up N40k fine(then ó, when bajaj motorcycle is being sold for N90k) I challenged them,I went to court at obawole, the conniving judge said make I go pay...I said lai lai...I called on a lawyer friend whom we both stayed in same hall back then, undergraduates. He served them court notice, summoned them to come to high court.

Guess what, the following week my shop has been unlocked. Why? LG can't employ services of a lawyer. Ever since then, dem no near the shop till I left the place.

My next line of action are the tow gangs at the MM airport, immediately fisayo soyombo and likes of Godwin Etakebuebu gives headway. I'll go gunz blazing on those idiots.

So bottom line bro, don't be timid and docile.
Fight in the face of oppression and tyranny.
Don't heed to reprobate mind, who keep urging you to keep driving and moving Lagos. Rideshare is a side hustle, you need something inherent to make it to the next level.

All the best. Don't be discouraged.

@interleukin

Draw up a detailed contract with him and outline perfectly who will handle the basic and complex things....

Basic things such as servicing of the car, repairs that has to do with suspension, car body and replacement of parts should b well outlined...it can be equal management , or outright apportioning to either of the party.

Complex ones such as change of engine, gear or a major part must be will detailed as well, in most cases the car owner take care of it, if such repairs comes up.
if the car is well managed and taken care of, complex repairs can be avoided. (I stand to be corrected)

using the basic repairs : If he will be responsible for repairs I will advice you consider 20-25k weekly payment, if it will be shared repairs and maintenance, you can consider 25k-30k weekly payment ...if you will like to be in charge of repairs then 30k weekly payment is ideal.

Note: the work is very slow at the moment due to post festive spending and absence of surge.

In regards to who keep the key. He keeps it, so you won't impede on his work schedule, just imagine he isn't your neighbor, I am sure you won't expect him to be coming to knock your door daily to submit and retrieve key.

In regards to days you will need the car, ensure you outline it in your contract, that such instances will occur and in such week, the agreed weekly payment will be divided by 7 and he will only remit for days worked i.e if weekly payment is agreed at 30k and you need the car for 2 days... Payment for that week will be 30k/7 =4285 , 4285 X 5 = 21,425.

Above all, ensure the contract is well drafted and duly agreed and signed by both parties...

I wish you well
Pls, no one should add nor subtract from this well detailed write-up,in other not to be repetitive. Nice one bro. You did a Yo'man job. Unto the next one grin

Azin enh! Very annoying thing...

Was to PU a rider at Bakare Hassan off Fola Agoro got to point A which is same street o but you know all those kind long streets and the middle bears another name, the idiot security didn't allow me in, got to point B gate closed, point C gate closed. Just few minutes pass 7pm oh.... I kukuma park along Fola Agoro...

This was what caused the riff btw the Commissioner and the magodo Brooks securities guys.

Does the street belong to anyone that they have to close it and restrict people from making use of alternative routes? These are the cause of heavy traffic in Lagos especially with the lekki metropolis because all the alternative routes have been closed with securities mounts on it just to allow only residence.

This nonsense has to be put to a stop.

In develop countries like UK,Germany, US etc even if you fix a road doesn't mean you have absolute authority to build a gate and close it restricting other from accessing it to their destination.

Its totally wrong. The Lagos State government has to look into this... I think I'll call into Nig Info station one of these days to talk about this.
I read through some of the comments here, and I wasn't only dejected but lost hope completely in our beloved Country. I read through opinions in support of Estate Authorities , full of biases , ill informed,a taint of oppressive tendencies....and i was like how did we get to this state of abyss?

You lock up gates as early as 7p.m...you'll now restrict everyone through a narrow path, what about emergencies? The most annoying thing is, by the time you want to "create a scene" , you'll now see the security guys call on the most wealthy personality in the "lock up street" go kon show up, trying to affirm his control on the poor guards.

Baba, do you know report has it that..the petrol tanker fire incidence that happened along otedola like 5 seasons ago and inability of commuters to manoeuvre their way through is largely due to the barricade erected inward omole phase II.

So, more needs to be done in terms of advocacy and orientation. The likes of Sheriff Quadri&Jimi disu don talk about this matter taya. I don't know who will come to our rescue ó.
