Igala is just Yoruba language corrupted by Jukun and Idoma (Kwararafa) accent. grin

The corruption of the original proto-Yoruba tongue into modern Igala happened when their ancestors broke off from the main branch west of the Niger Benue confluence into the area east of it. That is why the bulk of Yoruboid language speakers are on the west, while Igala is the only appendage on the other side with unrelated neighbors..... Igala shares ZERO mutual intelligibility with all the languages surrounding it.
Its closest linguistic neighbours and ancestors start from the Lokoja area all the way to Central Togo.

LegendHero:
Do you know the Yorubas have the 4 days week system as our ancient calendar called Kojoda?

The old Yoruba calendar is 4 days week and we only came to adopt the normal 7 days week of Aiku, Aje, Isegun, Ojoru, Ojobo, eti, and abameta due to the influence of the Europeans.

A Yoruba Kojoda calendar year (Kojoda) which starts on what is 3rd of June of a Gregorian calendar to the 2nd of June of the next Greogrian year has 91 weeks with each week having four days.
So let us talk about the Yoruba week. The four days are:

OJO OGUN: The Yorubas count these four days of the week starting from Ojo Ogun (Day of Ogun, the god of iron). Ojo Ogun is the first day of traditional Yoruba week and it is the day when the Ologun or the worshippers and devotees of Ogun worship this particular deity. On Ojo Ogun, the Ologuns worship and celebrate with various food items that are considered to be the favourite of Ogun. These include ekuru (a kind of steamed bean pudding), ewa (beans) and iyan (pounded yam). However, the most important item of sacrifice on Ojo Ogun is the dog. Since Ogun like balanced diet, it looks like Ojo Ogun will be my own favourite day of the week o. By the way, in some other parts of Yorubaland, it is also called Ojo Osoosi, named after another god, Osoosi, who is regarded as the brother of Ogun and Sango.

OJO JAKUTA: After Ojo Ogun comes the second day of the week. Ojo Jakuta is also called Ojo Sango. Sango is the Yoruba god of thunder, lightning and (electricity). The day in some parts of Yorubaland is called Ojo Oya. On this day dedicated to Sango, his worshippers stream out wearing bright red and white attires as those are Sango’s favourite colours and they do the worship by presenting edible items like amala with gbegiri soup, bitter cola and guguru (pop corn). For Sango, the most important sacrificial animal is the ram. I think I will decamp to Ojo Jakuta. Jakuta means ‘Someone Who Fought With Stones’.

OJO OSE: This is the third day and it is set aside for the worship of Orisha Nla (The Great Deity). The favourite food item used for this day is the ake beef but snails are also used for the sacrifices. On this special day, all the worshippers of Orisha Nla wear white garments and clean all their houses and environs. This same day can be dedicated to the worship of Obatala, Sonponna (god of small pox), Iyaami (the Mothers or Great Witches) and the Egungun (Masquerades).

OJO AWO: Ojo Awo (Day of the Deity) is the day set aside for Ifa (Oracle) and just like Orisha Nla, Ifa also prefers delicacies made from the ake beef. This same day can also be dedicated for the worship of Esu, Osun and Orunmila.

Before I proceed, please have the following firmly fixed at the back of your mind:

The identification of the Ogane as the Ooni of Ife was not simply imagined by me or some other random Nairalander. No, that is the very conclusion of historical scholarship world-wide.

On the other hand, the supposed identification of the Ogane as an Igbo king is simply the imagination of a handful of Igbo Nairalanders; and such idea has never, at any time, been held even by one scholar, of course for obvious reasons.

Now to the actual refutation/education I’m about to serve out here.

(1) The “east” information in the accounts was simply a received information from Benin. And as such, its presence in the Europeans’ accounts — in this received context — says absolutely nothing about the mind/intention of the Binis from whom it was received.

Having clarified that, it becomes obvious that the “east” of the accounts was not an independent information emanating from the Europeans themselves as their accounts weren’t compiled on the basis of some actual visit to the said Ogane’s kingdom.

Moreover, I have shown that all those saddled with the responsibility of identifying this Ogane of the European accounts have taken the “east” of the accounts non-literally, generally in the historical/religious sense of Ife as Oodaiye, Ibi ojumo tii mo wa — Ife: the source of the world, from where the sun rises.

(2) The information about the time it takes to journey from Benin to the Ogane’s kingdom (i.e. “twenty moons’ journey”) is likewise a received information from Benin which is interestingly accurate.

Guess what, I have an easy-to-follow Math computation which demonstrates neatly (based on received data from C.G. Okojie on the pace of a similar journey in olden times) that Ife indeed lies some “twenty moons’ journey” from Benin.

For this computation, see here.

Lol. Continue receiving enlightenment below:

(3) The specific information in the accounts regarding the distance from Benin to the Ogane’s Kingdom (i.e. two hundred and fifty leagues) is NOT itself a received information from Benin, but instead is the author’s supposition which he based on one of the received information.

How do we know this? We know this for the following reasons:

(i) A careful reading of the specific relevant aspect of de Barros’ account reveals this very clearly as follows:

“... at twenty moons’ journey — which ... would be about two hundred and fifty of our leagues — ...”

This shows clearly how the author presumed what the distance should be, based on the received information regarding the number of moons’ journey.

(ii) There is no reason whatsoever to think that the ancient Binis themselves (or even W/Africans of the time) had such a conception of distance in meters, kilometers, miles, leagues, etc.

Regarding your logic and challenge to me to ”present one Benin oba or Benin custodian of tradition of any Benin oba-endorsed writing in which they publicly denied NRI cultural or spiritual overlordship”:

Your logic here (if this can be called logic at all) is not only fallacious but also embarrassingly silly. I mean, literally every single kingdom in the world could “argue” along this same dumb line to claim some interesting overlordship over Benin.

After all, Benin Kingdom haven’t publicly denied the overlordship of any of the Cameroon kingdoms, etc. cheesy At this point you should have realized the extent of your argument’s dumb.ness.

And regarding Ife, scholars have demonstrated again and again how the apparent refusal of some modern Bini kings to continue to acknowledge Ife’s absolute overlordship is only a recent phenomenon motivated by modern supremacy politics.

This interesting modern attempt to twist the historical events and tradition as was first heard of from the Edos in the 1970s. I have discussed this at great length HERE.

However, traditions gathered in Benin, from the Benin palace by Captain Ernest Roupell in the late 1890s stated clearly that the first Oba of Benin is Eweka(1) who is a Yoruba man from Ife. This particular account is published in H. Ling Roth, (1903), p.7.

Moreover, the image shown in the attached screenshot below is a circa 1300C.E. ‘bronze’ sculpture of the then Ooni of Ife which was excavated from the palace of Benin kingdom.

This is yet again an ancient and hard evidence of Ife’s overlordship over Benin kingdom which corroborates the received traditional accounts by Roupell.

As I type, this artifact lies in the Benin Museum.
The attached screenshot is from page 77 of Professor Suzanne P. Blier’s “Art in Ancient Ife, Birthplace of the Yoruba”

Feel free to ask. It's better to err on the side of caution. If you are a novice on finance. You may be an expert in something else.

To answer you, yes. Depending on the bank. Most foreign banks in Nigeria like StanbicIBTC and Standard chatered bank offer indemnity banking.

This means you can instruct the bank to do anything on your account via email, verified phone call or sms.

I have email indemnity with those banks I listed. I may be out of the country by nature of my business and I instruct them to do anything. And they have never disappointed. You may ask your bank if they offer such services.

I also ask for online access to enable me monitor my investment with them.
"Indemnity banking"... True that.
InvestmentRe: Fixed Deposit Vs Treasury Bills: Which Pays Better? by Konquest: 8:02pm On Dec 25, 2024
Built2last:
Treasury bill pays more at the moment it gives you 13.9% for 90days, 17% for 182 days and 18.2% for 365 days tenor.

Mind you treasury bill pays interest up front. For instance 10million investment for 90 days will give you almost 400k. This you get on the day of the bid and your 10million is returned at the end of the 90days. It's cool money when you have plenty money to invest. Either in the primary or secondary market.

Fixed deposit rate although has a bank rate is largely determined by the branch you entered. The branch will always give you a lower rate because the lesser the interest to you, the more money the branch makes.

The best rate any Nigerian bank will give you on fixed deposit is 12% and that's if you are bringing up to 50million.

Go for treasury bill

InvestmentRe: Fixed Deposit Vs Treasury Bills: Which Pays Better? by Konquest: 7:42pm On Dec 25, 2024
Pascopele:
Who borrows from you?

When you buy treasury bills you are basically lending money to the government (through the CBN) with a promise to pay back over 91 days, 182 days or 364 days. With Fixed deposit however, you are lending money to a bank or investment house with a promise to repay you at the expiration of the tenor (usually between one to twelve months) If you do not like to lend money to the Government then Fixed deposit is better.

What is the risk?

Treasury Bills are backed by the full faith and credit of the government and as such they are seen as almost risk free because it is very unlikely that a government can go bankrupt and not able to pay its loans. Besides the government has a tax revenue stream it can use to repay its borrowings. I am not aware that the CBN has ever defaulted.

Fixed deposits are backed by the credit rating of the bank. Unlike when you borrow from the bank, the bank does not give you any collateral when it borrows from you. However, it is obligated to pay you your interest and principal when it falls due. The bank can however default when it goes bust as we have seen in years past. When a bank fails, depositors may lose all or part of their money, including fixed depositors.

If you are weary of risk then treasury bills is best for you.

Who gives a better interest rate?

The higher the risk the higher the reward is how financial markets play and as such one will expect Treasury bill rates to be lower than fixed deposits rates. However, other factors do come into play that makes it change. Currently, Treasury Bills rate post a better rate than average fixed deposit rates in Nigeria despite the latter being the riskier of the two.

How do I get paid interests?

Some bank pay you interest at the end of the period along with the principal. Some also pay interest upfront depending on what you negotiate. Interests on Treasury Bills are paid upfront only and pays your principal at the end of the tenor.

Which one pays the most taxes?

Treasury bills are exempted from taxes, so taxes are not deducted from your interest payments. However, you are likely to pay a fee to the bank for rendering the service on your behalf. The fees are very small and almost negligible in my opinion. Interests on Fixed deposits attract withholding tax rate of 10% deductible at source by the banks and to be remitted to the relevant tax authority.

If you don’t want to be taxed then Treasury Bills is it.

Can I roll over my investments (interest and principal)?

Fixed deposits can be rolled over by banks. You simply instruct your bank to roll over the interest and principal when it matures giving you the benefit of compounding interest. It’s also a default way of saving and investing all rolled up in one. Treasury bills can’t be rolled over by default. Once the investment matures the CBN pays the money straight into your bank account.

If you are therefore looking for an investment you can roll over with ease, I suggest you go for Fixed deposits then.

Can I get my cash anytime I want?

You can get your cash anytime you want with Fixed Deposits by liquidating your account ahead of its maturity. All you need to do is to tell your bankers or investment house that you wish to cash in on your deposits. They will however, pay you interest for the period that the money was with them instead of the full tenor if you had waited till maturity. You may also incur an early withdrawal charge.

Treasury Bills on the other hand are not as flexible as fixed deposits. If you wish to cash in on your treasury bills ahead of its scheduled tenor, you will have to sell the rights to the treasury bills to the bank or to a willing buyer. The buyer will deduct the portion of the interest remaining for the period between when you terminated the investment and when it matures from your principal.

So basically, you can collect you cash in both instances except that it is perhaps faster and easier with banks

Can I use it as a collateral

Treasury Bills by their nature can be used as a collateral to collect a loan from a bank. This is because it is seen as a near risk free asset by lenders and is also quasi cash.

Fixed deposits can also be used as a collateral however the credit rating of the bank that is holding the deposits may affect the strength of it in the eye of another lender. Some banks may not accept fixed deposit in another bank as a full collateral because they don’t consider the bank a strong bank.

If you are looking to use your money as cash collateral, then Treasury Bills are more suitable

……………
Intelligence is a complex trait influenced by a variety of factors, including genetics, environment, culture, education, and socioeconomic conditions. There is no scientific consensus that categorizes any ethnic group as inherently more intelligent than others.

Intelligence can be measured in different ways, and these measurements can be shaped by social, economic, and educational opportunities, as well as cultural values.

It's important to avoid generalizing intelligence based on ethnicity, as it risks reinforcing stereotypes and ignoring the diversity and individual potential within any group.

Intelligence is not fixed, and individuals from all ethnic groups have demonstrated remarkable intellectual achievements throughout history. Instead of focusing on ethnic groups, many experts look at how access to education, resources, and opportunities influences cognitive development and intellectual achievements.

From my personal experience with numerous attacks by bandits, passing through Lagos - Oyo - ilorin- Mokwa - Abuja is much safer than passing through Akure/Ekiti - Lokoja -Abuja. The most dangerous route now is Ekiti/Akure to Lokoja, so travelers should be very careful on that route.

For those that are coming from South South or South East to Sokoto state, the fastest route to Sokoto is Abuja - Zaria - Funtua - Gusau - Sokoto, and the most very dangerous route is from Funtua - Gusau - Sokoto. Travelers should be very careful on that route, especially at night. The attack by bandits is very minimal in the day due to roadblocks by security operatives but very dangerous at night. Even there is a curfew on that route from 6 pm - 7 am. If you're traveling to that route and your driver reaches Zaria in the evening time, please don't allow the driver to move further, or you can come down from the bus because some drivers are very stubborn.

One of the most dangerous roads before was Abuja - Kaduna, but our soldiers have taken over the road, no more bandits attack on that road
Deep insights.

Mr. Mike Ejiofor (A former DSS boss during the time of Goodluck Jonathan, who is an indigene from Issele-Ukwu in Delta North LGA of Delta State) was ALSO kidnapped while driving along the Lokoja-Abuja Expressway by a well organized gang of Fulani bandits and in the chilling video interview he granted some years back, he said one of the Fulani criminals could operate laptops and was skilled in the use of technology.

How Mike Ejiofor survived that kidnap situation without being killed is a miracle because the leader of the Fulani highway bandits saw his DSS identity card and other security items on him. Watching him speak about his experience in that interview was bone chilling and surreal.

If I'm ever going to visit one point to another that are far apart when in Nigeria, it'll have to be by air travel. Getting picked up like a small snail 🐌 by some imbecilic random male criminal kidnappers (and their few female accomplices) is NOT a funny thing! The brutal mental and physical tortures that I've read and seen in videos about those who have been kidnapped over the years since the late 1980s is indeed enervating tbh.

The WORSE humiliation is the sexual violence these kidnappers unleash on their female victims within the first 48 hours of being kidnapped. Two cases of such kidnappings happened in PH and Warri where the two women were gang raped within 24 hours of being kidnapped from their residence in PH and the other from her bakery in Warri within the last 4 years. The discontinuation of the death penalty is what has led to these vicious acts of humiliating people's wives and daughters by these male imbeciles.

A return to the death by firing squads of the military years, the introduction of executions of kidnappers, notorious drug traffickers and drug barons, rapists, murderers, and armed robbers by lethal injections and electric chairs would minimize these heinous crimes and deter potential criminals.

Tragedy struck in Emure-Ile, Emure Local Government Area of Ekiti State, as gunmen ambushed and kidnapped several passengers traveling from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Ado-Ekiti on Sunday night, News360 Nigeria reports.

Among those abducted was the bus driver, Mr. Sunday Emmanuel, according to reports from the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Ado-Ekiti Motor Terminal branch. The attackers have demanded a ransom of ₦30 million per victim.

In a distressing twist, the gunmen abandoned children who were also traveling on the bus. Their cries attracted the attention of passersby early Monday morning, leading to the incident being reported to the police.

He said: “They drove the bus into the bush and dragged people inside the bush.

“They called the family of the driver and I pleaded to speak with the driver and after our conversation, they demanded a ransom of N30 million. They said they would call back, but they have not done so yet.

“They left some children on the bus, and it seems that some people to the the farm saw the kids and alerted the police in Emure-Owo. The driver’s union in Ado-Ekiti is currently holding a meeting on how to reach out to the kidnappers”, he said.

He added that two of the kidnapped victims escaped while they were being herded into the bush.

Efforts to get the Ekiti police command’s comment was not successful as calls to the telephone line of the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu rang out.

PressMyButton:
The new Ministry of Livestock Development will this year establish ranches in seven states across the Federation.

Checks by Nigerian Tribune revealed that two of the ranches will be in South west states of Lagos and Ogun while another two will be located in Imo and Cross River states in the south east and south south zones, respectively.

Two North East states of Adamawa and Taraba will equally have ranches along with the North West state of Kebbi.

The 2025 Budget sighted by Nigerian Tribune revealed that a total sum of N315m has been allocated to establish the ranches.

Aside from the allocation for ranches, the new Ministry with a total budget sum of N 11.8 Billion also made provision for poultry domestication farms in Delta, Abia and Bauchi states with a total sum of N150 million.

The Ministry budget has an overhead component of N1,800,000,000 and capital component of N10 billion.

A total sum of N600m has been allocated for provision of “Solar Powered in Livestock Production Communities in 30 Federal Constituencies of Nigeria.

Curiously, it also has N50 Million as provision of solar powered street lights for grazing reserve.

Further checks revealed that to address the mutual hostility between farmers and herders, the sum of N86 million has been allocated.

According to the budget, N85million will be spent on Stakeholders engagement with Governors, traditional rulers, leaders of thought on farmers – herders conflict at federal and state levels.

A total sum of N101m has been allocated for “establishments of Farmers and Herders Conflict Resolution Mechanism in Community, Ward, LGA, and State Levels.

The New Ministry also made provision for N97million as total expenditure to ” Establish a performance management system platform to Track Staff Performance.”

Nigerian Tribune checks revealed that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration had last July approved the creation of a new Ministry of Livestock Development at the inauguration of
the Renewed Hope livestock reform implementation committee at the State House, Abuja.

The committee was mandated to provide sector-focused solutions to address the age-long farmers-herders crisis.

Recall that on September 14, 2023, the National Livestock Reforms Committee had recommended that Tinubu create a “Ministry of Livestock Resources” to, among other deliverables, reduce the decades-long gory conflict between farmers and nomadic cattle herders nationwide.

PoliticsRe: Tinubu Approves N95bn For Kano Dams Rehabilitation, To Construct Eastern Bypass by Konquest: 11:48pm On Dec 24, 2024
zero8zero:
President Bola Ahmad Tinubu has approved N95 billion for the rehabilitation of over 16 Kano dams to boost irrigation farming and the construction of the State Eastern Bypass Road, which will connect the southern region to the city.

In a statement, the newly appointed Executive Director of Finance of the Hadejia River Basin Development Authority, Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, announced that a technical committee has already been inaugurated to evaluate the dams.

He said: “Without mincing words, the inauguration of the technical committee to evaluate the Kano dams, including the Challawa Gorge Dam and Tiga Dam, among others, will enhance irrigation and improve agricultural productivity. This aligns with the efforts of the Hon. Minister Joseph Utsev to maximize these facilities in Kano.”

“Similarly, the appropriation of N95 billion for the rehabilitation of dams in Kano, secured by Senator Kawu Sumaila from the southern part of the state, underscores the commendable efforts of Mr President.

“The kickoff of the North West Development Commission, driven by the support and insistence of Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, will also bring prosperity to the region, demonstrating the administration’s dedication to the Kano people and the North West as a whole.”

Kwankwaso assured President Tinubu that his appointment as Director has “energized our collective desire to strive for the delivery of the Renewed Hope Agenda, ensuring a clear path for Mr. President in Kano and the North by 2027.”

He expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity, extending his appreciation to the National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullah Ganduje, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Hon. Abba Bichi, Chairman of the Appropriation Committee in the House, and other well-wishers for their support.

“Our appointment at the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority is an honor for the Kano people and members of the All Progressives Congress. It reflects the President’s positive vision for our state and the nation at large,” Kwankwaso stated.

He further emphasized the competence of the leadership team, saying: “The caliber of individuals assembled, including Chairman Mamman Dau Aliyu, Managing Director Engineer Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, Tijjani Musa Isa, Hajiya Zainab Gamawa, Baffa Dandatti, and myself, ensures a formidable team dedicated to advancing the aspirations of President Bola Tinubu.”

Kwankwaso also highlighted the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development:

“The Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration’s determination to complete the Kano to Kaduna and Abuja expressway, along with the highly anticipated Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) pipeline project, slated for completion in 2025, further underscores the President’s genuine commitment to Kano and the North,” he assured.

TravelRe: Lagos To Receive New Rolling Stock For Red & Blue Line Train In 2025 by Konquest: 9:08pm On Dec 24, 2024
yoruboid:
The Lagos State government is set to receive new rolling stock to bolster train operations on the Red and Blue Line corridors in 2025.

Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), outlined these plans, along with the agency’s season’s greetings to Lagosians, in a video clip.

The video, posted on the Authority’s X (formerly Twitter) page, also highlighted her plans for new buses to join the regulated fleet operated under LAMATA to better serve the transport needs of Lagos residents

“In 2025, we promise to serve you better. New buses will join our regulated fleet. New railing stock are expected to join our train operations,” Akinajo stated.

The Managing Director of LAMATA also revealed that the Lagos State government, under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is working towards the realization of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Green and Purple Lines.

The LRMT Green Line is a proposed 68km metro rail project that will span from the Lekki Free Zone to Marina, while the Purple Line is planned to connect Redemption Camp to Ojo, near Lagos State University (LASU).

Other plans she outlined for next year include exploring ways to reduce emissions through the use of eco-friendly fuels and improving the payment system for Lagos State’s regulated transport services.

What you should know
The Lagos Strategic Transport Master Plan focuses on a robust metro rail system, including six Light Rail Transit (LRT) lines, two of which are currently operational: Phase 1 of the Blue Line and Phase 2 of the Red Line.

The Blue Line, a 27-kilometre rail project, began commercial operations in September 2023 after completing its first phase, a 13-kilometre stretch from Marina to Mile 2. By December 2024, it had transported 2.37 million passengers, with Phase 2 ongoing.

The Red Line, a 37-kilometre project, began construction in April 2021 and saw its first phase inaugurated in February 2024, connecting Agbado to Oyingbo with eight stations. Passenger operations commenced in October, and Phase 2 is also underway.
The Lagos State Government has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) to develop the 68km Green Line, which will connect the Lekki Free Zone to Marina, integrating with the Blue Line.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu signed the MoU at the China-Africa Cooperation Summit in September 2024.

Additionally, in February 2024, the Governor announced the procurement of additional rolling stock for the Blue and Red Lines, though their arrival from China was delayed.

PoliticsRe: The Return Of Igbo's That Migrated To IDU/IGODOMIGODO And IDAH Before 800AD by Konquest:
TAO11:
Smiles.

First of all, the account you’re referring to wasn’t talking about how Igbos measure ‘months’. Neither was it talking about how Yorubas measure ‘months’.

Instead, it is specifically referring to how the Bini messengers measured ‘months’. You may wan’t to read the account again.

However, none of these ancient cultures measured ‘months’ using calendars — they could not possibly use what wasn’t available to them.
smiley

Instead, they measured ‘months’ by the moon. In fact, the Yoruba word for month (“osu”) derives from the Yoruba word for moon (“osupa”). So you truly shouldn’t be surprised. smiley
.
.
Having said that, have you bothered to genuinely consider the fact that the said account talks about the following details among others?:

(1) That the Ogane's kingdom was twenty moons' journey away from Benin.

(2) That the Ogane sends an incoming Benin king a small piece of shiny brass cross as an indication of his approval.

(3) That the Ogane sends an incoming Benin king a piece of shiny brass helmet as an indication of his approval.
.
.
Are you now willing to demonstrate with scholarly support that the above details are in fact met, with Nri Kingdom as the frame of reference??

Moreover, I have discussed (not me actually, I was basically citing historical scholarship) how Ife checks all the boxes for these details of that account — including how scholars understood the word “East” in the account. See: HERE for a start.
.
.
Furthermore: I feel obliged to stress the fact that apart from some Igbo Nairalanders, there is not a single historian anywhere in the world who has ever identified the Ogané of João de Barros’ account (a.k.a. the Hooguanee of Pacheco Pereira’s account, a.k.a. the Agare of Manuel de Figueiredo et. al.’s accounts) as the King/Priest of Nri Kingdom — It just has never happened before in the world’s history, except (of course) on Nairaland.

The closest the world has come to such identification in south-eastern Nigeria is the ruler of the sacred town of Aro as noted in the story of the Belgian traveler Adolph Burdo.

However, Burdo himself on his visit to the said kingdom noted that it lacked any signs of sacrality, and that the ruler himself, his court, and palace etiquette has nothing in common with what Pacheco Pereira, de Barros and others wrote about the Ogané.

— see D.M. Bondarenko, 2003, pp.73-74.

I think one simple way to avoid falling into cognitive dissonance is to pose genuine questions to one’s self in relation to the above three highlighted details of the account.

Another way still is to ask one’s self genuinely if the Binis did in history (or till date) address any south-easstern monarch by the designation “Oghene”.

Again as a reminder, Ile-Ife checks all the boxes for all of these questions/details.

For a close, the following attached screenshot is from a Yoruba person Adam Knobler’s “Mythology and Diplomacy in the Age of Exploration, 2016”, where he simply echoes the conclusion of Yoruba people the world’s historical scholarship on the subject.

Impressive historical summations from @TAO11. NOBODY has ever come close to destroying these "online fables" (posted by those uninformed revisionists) like you've done on this Website!

You're an ABSOLUTELY brilliant historian of "artificial intelligence" proportions.

[IPONRI]

In the Yoruba tradition, Iponri is a person's higher self or spiritual double that lives in the Realm of the Ancestors. It is also described as the force in nature that guides an individual's consciousness.

The Yoruba believe that creation exists in two dimensions:
1. Aye: The visible world, or physical universe
2. Orun: The invisible world, inhabited by supernatural beings and the “doubles” of everything that manifests in Aye

The Yoruba word Ori literally means "head" and refers to one's spiritual intuition and destiny. The physical “ori” is a symbol of the “inner head” or “the inner person”.

The concept of Iponri originates from the Yoruba creation myth and is a part of the Yoruba tradition of Ifa. In Ifa scripture, Iponri is described as a person's spiritual double that lives in the Realm of the Ancestors, or Ìkòlè Òrun. It is also described as the Force in Nature (Òrìsà) that guides a person's consciousness.

ORIGIN of IPONRI Settlement in Lagos State

2 Aug 2021 — They were founded about 191 and 143 years ago (Olaleye Village around 1830, Iponri around 1878).

Olaleye-Iponri was about 0.35316 km2 with a density of 132,558 persons/km2. The two were gradually merged over the years for administrative and political purposes. They were founded about 191 and 143 years ago (Olaleye Village around 1830, Iponri around 1878). The whole land area was initially owned by the Oloto Chieftaincy Family, which gave it as grants to a few settlers who farmed and fished on it.
PoliticsRe: We Won’t Control Prices To Reduce Food Costs – Tinubu by Konquest: 8:14pm On Dec 24, 2024
LegendHero:
Don't follow what our useless media write in their newspaper, let me break down what he said.

They asked him if he believe in price control and he said NO.

He said it is a thing of demand and supply. When you have enough supply, the people hoarding food will not have much incentive to do that when you have enough supply. So he said rather than mandate businessmen to sell at a particluar price, he'll rather endure we produce more food and beat them with the supply such that hoarding will be detrimental.

He then proceed to give instance of petrol. He said when he brought naira for crude, the people involved frustrated him for few weeks and after allowing demand and supply to deal with them, they resorted to gradual reduction in petrol price. He said the supply is in abundance for petrol so they can't hoard any longer so they have to sell.

If anyone think what he said is bad, then they should tell us how enforcing price control by force is better.

It was wrong to change the fancy name of jails to correctional centres. It is a serious attempt to transform official jails into Swedish lookalikes. Once that happened, bad things started happening. Lately, crossdresser Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye went to one of these centres and returned, six months later, almost three times his normal size. From jail, the correctional centres are now fattening rooms, and it was only time that we would all become celebrity ex-cons.

image maker, the handsome Olumuyiwa Adejobi has confirmed our best fears. He has confirmed that henceforth, anyone who insults another being on social media would go the way of Bobrisky. When you think of the fact that nearly 100 Nigerians have died in stampedes within a week, going to a correctional centre for insulting people is something we all should look forward to. After all, we all already live in and conduct our businesses behind steel grills. The difference is that if insecurity allows us, we can still manage our time.

Come to think of it, the safest place in Nigeria today is not Aso Rock, it is the correctional centre. That’s the only place where one’s security is guaranteed. A place to choose a slim diet or a fattening one. Insults are worse to deal with than state-sponsored propaganda.

Those with razor-sharp tongues must not be allowed to choose their habitual jailhouse. They should consult their political leaders who are experts at escaping the long arms of the law. The PPRO considers insults as cyberbullying, it could only mean one thing – it is worse than breaking and entering, armed robbery, kidnapping and ritual murder.

Our dynamically inactive lawmakers passed a Cybercrime Act while we were sleeping on our rights. The best way to test the fangs of any law is to punish those who breach it. In the Eldorado that the ruining APC has created, Nigerians haven’t had it better. They spend their lazy behinds watching television and imbibing the horrible habits of others on social media.

Western critics are spoilt brats. In Canada, citizens constantly ambush their prime minister and pour as many invectives as they could on him. Usually, he smiles coyishly and moves on. Those who have no direct access to him have their stickman stickers simulating an ass grind visibly on their vehicles. Yet, the Canadian RCMP pretends that such sacrilege is not a violation of the law or as important as tracking the thieves picking luxury cars from garages or chasing the blatant thieves breaking and entering malls in Ontario.

In Britain a state-owned media, the BBC once questioned the motive for going to war in Iraq. Its on-air personalities spend their shifts mocking the foibles of their government, including the ceremonial monarchy. Why, they even forced a royal prince to drop his inherited duties.

In America, insulting and abusing officials are erroneously considered an Amendment Right. They stick their phone cameras at everything and everyone while streaming their despicable behaviour live on the Chinese app – TikTok. Now, the government wants full control of Tik-Tok or it would block its signals.

The irony in China is that insulting a Politburo member might attract more than a correctional centre sentence. But then, even in 2024, Chinese officials punish corruption with death. Li Jianping, a high-powered official accused of mismanaging a paltry $412 million was recently shot publicly. This cruel and inhumane sentence contrasts sharply with events in Nigeria, where Mr Jianping would have hidden in the hallowed offices of his state governor, then surrendered to the EFCC, went to court and emerged from detention on crutches. If he had faced a Nigerian legislative enquiry, he would have caught epilepsy on his way to the hearing and publicly exhibited his fainting spells until his case was terminated or heard a huit close.

Mr Adejobi knows that if Nigeria continues to allow the unhindered bullets of insults to hit those in high office, the earth itself will become too hot for their siren immunity.

We all expect a time like this would come, albeit too late. Didn’t our father, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu confess that he stopped all social media activities after realizing that he was the subject of unbridled tongues? And in spite of all the great things the man is doing in Aso Rock and on his flights across the globe, the insults have not stopped.

We do not have a caring president, but a passionate First Vice President in the person of our dear mummy, Pastor Mrs Oluremi Tinubu. She recently launched her Renewed Hope Initiative with the announcement of her billion-naira freebies to the aged, institutions and poor Nigerians. The latter are becoming very hard to find these days, but trust the enemies of the regime, they had to make Nigeria look like a big beggar colony. This was what led to the organization of the so-called palliatives by groups and individuals that led to the death three days of around 100 people, mostly children in three different parts of Nigeria.

The opposition just has to look for a way to make it look like all the misanthropic policies of the government are having an effect on our socialist government. Not only is the government doling out Wi-Fi money through Bluetooth to unknown citizens, but it has also announced free train rides for the Yuletide season. Yet, it must increase its global credit score by borrowing to finance the 2025 budget.

That's pure laziness on the part of those lawyers mentioned here by Wole Olanipekun, SAN.

Some of these lawyers are ALSO VERY notorious for discussing openly in the media about legal cases that are sub judice [A Latin term for "under a judge,"] emphasizing that a specific case or matter is already under trial or consideration by a judge or court. It's illegal to discuss cases that are sub judice.

There was a foreign media reporter who observed such attitude about some lawyers in Nigeria who had a habit of discussing cases that are sub judice. You can just imagine that!

Maybe a special portable app device or mobile app can be invented to enable these crop of lawyers with short attention spans or who are lazy to create "SUMMARIES" of judgements for them for easier understanding. Period.
