Car Talk › Re: Tesco Powers into 2022 with the UK’s First Commercial Electric Articulated HGVs by Konquest(op):
The gradual DEATH of petroleum-based fuel.

Crude oil producing countries should start thinking seriously of diversifying
there economies like Malaysia did by investing more in gas processing instead
depending too much on crude oil and petrol exports.

Yes, electric vehicles, this is the way to go... Green energy! grin

Zero emission from articulated trucks.

I'm aware that some articulated trucks in Nigeria and globally
have been converted to use gas for movement of goods though.

More...

Tesco is to launch the first fully-electric HGVs to be used commercially in Britain to serve its distribution centre in Wales.

Two 37-tonne lorries will transport goods from a rail freight terminal in Cardiff to the company’s hub in Magor, about 30 miles away, from January.

The vehicles can travel about 100 miles on a single charge, making the relatively short distance of the round trip an ideal route to test how further vehicles could be rolled out in the fleet, Britain’s biggest supermarket said.

The first two, from the Dutch manufacturer DAF, are expected to make about 65,000 miles of haulage journeys otherwise made by diesel vehicles, cutting an estimated 87.4 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year.

HGVs contribute about 16% of all emissions from UK transport, the sector that now contributes most to greenhouse gases. Battery weight and range requirements have made HGVs a more difficult proposition than cars to electrify.

Car Talk › Tesco Powers into 2022 with the UK’s First Commercial Electric Articulated HGVs by Konquest(op):
Tesco powers into the new year with the UK’s first commercial electric articulated HGVs
29 December 2021

• Tesco and FSEW’s new service is a first for UK haulage and targets emissions from heavy goods vehicles, which have so far been difficult to address.

• From January, two electric heavy freight articulated trucks will transport products emissions-free between Cardiff and Magor.

• Newly commissioned lorries could play a key role in accelerating the haulage industry’s transition to zero emission transport over the next few years.

Tesco will power into the new year by launching the UK’s first commercially used fully electric heavy freight articulated trucks. Two new 37 tonne DAF electric vehicles will transport food and other products from Wentloog rail terminal outside Cardiff to Tesco’s distribution centre in Magor, Wales, in partnership with logistics and international freight forwarding company FSEW.

Heavy goods vehicles make up around 16 percent of the UK’s domestic transport emissions and addressing this can play a significant role in delivering the UK’s net zero ambitions. Despite significant advances in battery technology and charging infrastructure for smaller vehicles, there hasn’t been a commercially viable solution for electric haulage and distribution until now.

These first two lorries will replace around 65,000 diesel-fuelled road miles with clean green energy, removing 87.4 tonnes of CO2e per year. To power the new service FSEW has installed charging points at its site in South Wales that provide enough energy to power these large vehicles for 100 miles before needing to charge again. At around 30 miles each way the Wentloog - Magor journey is an ideal location to understand the potential and range of these lorries for use throughout the UK and elsewhere in Tesco’s fleet.[/b]

By demonstrating that electric HGV transportation is commercially viable, this service will contribute to encouraging wider investment in technology and innovation that will support the haulage sector’s efforts to reduce emissions and air pollution. It will also contribute to Tesco’s efforts to achieve net zero emissions in its own operations by 2035, and FSEW’s work to replace more than 40 diesel vehicles with low-carbon alternatives and switch to fleet-wide zero-emissions transport operations by 2025.

Jason Tarry, Tesco UK and ROI CEO said: “Tesco’s distribution network is one of the largest in the UK and plays an important role in our efforts to become net zero in our own operations by 2035. We’ve already made progress by starting our switch to electric home delivery vans and rolling out electric vehicles charging points for our customers. I’m excited that Tesco can also lead the way in electric haulage innovation, helping to tackle this last source of road transport emissions with the support of FSEW.”

Jason Watts, Distribution Centre Manager, Tesco Distribution Centre Magor, said: “We all want to do what we can for the environment so we’re proud that Magor and Wales was chosen to be the first location to use these zero emissions lorries. It’s always exciting to get new kit and we can’t wait to try these lorries out in our busy operation.”

Geoff Tomlinson, FSEW Managing Director said: “This is a landmark day for us here at FSEW, representing a major step forward in our commitment to providing zero emissions transport freight services. Together we are working to create a cleaner and greener logistics experience. This is transformational for the UK’s commercial and retail industries and is just the start of our work to supply electric heavy freight vehicles to customers such as Tesco.”

“Setting the industry standard is important to us which is why we also have plans underway to create an eFreight hub in Cardiff which will include a low carbon fuel facility for the use of all freight providers and commercial and municipal operators and are also launching this month two further trucks running on 100% renewable biomethane fuel for freight transport use.”

Very pathetic thread on both sides.

I will just drop this line: anyone not interested or willing to sexually satisfy their partner (male/female) should not bother about marriage. All forms of sexual abuse are wrong:
1. Withholding sex;
2. Exchanging sex for gifts/cash;
3. Causing intentional injury to a partner during sex (outside BDSM);
4. Not making an effort to satisfy your partner;
5. Performing/incorporating acts that is shameful to the other party
6. etc.

Sex (all types) is the thing that done outside marriage is an outright sin. Other activities done together might just be inappropriate or indecent.

In Niger and Kwara states, Yoruba is lingua franca, more or less all natives speak the language. In Niger they also speak Hausa. In Kogi and Kwara they dont speak Hausa. Plateau speaks to a large extent, Benue dont really. So, Niger is as much Hausa speaking as Yoruba. Yoruba is native to the place. Nupes and Bariba speak Yoruba as lingua franca while there are indigenous Yoruba in Niger state. Remove Benue, Kogi, Kwara who dont speak Hausa, then you have 16 states who speak Hausa but they are not all Hausa. Hausa land is 6 states in the NW and then SW Niger republic. Kaduna is peopled and owned by Nupoid peoples. Gwaris and etc. They are not Hausas. They have their languages but speak Hausa. Kanuri is in the NE, then there are still over a hundred other languages in the North but one can say Hausa is lingua franca in 14 or 15 states but not more than 6 or 7 states is Hausa land, then SW Niger but Hausa language is used by BBC, VOA and etc. I think Gombe speaks Fulfulde. Yoruba is spoken indigenously in 6 SW and three NC states of Kogi, Kwara and Niger, then in 2 SS states of Edo and Delta but it is full lingua franca in SW, Niger and Kwara making 8 against up to 14 for Hausa. Then it is lingua franca in North Edo and Western Kogi, The Igala speak a Yoruba dialect and are the largest group in Kogi. For Igbo, the language is in 5 SE states as full lingua franca, then most of Rivers and Delta East, making 6. No other Igbo speaking city is in any other place. So as far as Nigeria is concerned, it is Hausa, Yoruba, then Igbo as per widely spoken language. Now, move to ethnic groups. The Yoruba will be number one for controlling fully 7 states with an average 85 percent population. Then controlling a third of Edo and Kogi. So let us just say Yoruba fill up 8 states in Nigeria. Hausas fill up six states or seven. Igbos fill up five or six. Then the population of SW is like double SE, use any indicator, WAEC enrolment, SIM registration, recharge card use and etc, the SW bests all others. I believe the population is highest followed by NW and I believe Kaduna population is higher than Kano's. If we move to outside Africa, it will be where Yoruba surpasses Hausa. Aborisha worldwide are over 100 million of which majority are South Americans and many understand Yoruba to varying degrees, the Awos understand it to the extent that a Catholic priest understand Latin even moreso. So, Yoruba is the language of close to 100 million in West Africa and another 100 million in the diaspora who use it to varying degrees. So in Nigeria, Hausa is number 1, in West Africa, Hausa and Yoruba will drag it since all of Benin republic speak Yoruba and parts of Togo. Yoruba land extend into Ghana where there are 50 Yoruba towns. The Ewe are Ife people who dont speak Yoruba but are same with us. With news channels, Hausa is number one but with foreigners, it is Yoruba because of the popular theology and the diaspora community. Igbo will come third in all instances.

Then nowhere in Yoruba land can we say for sure that Igbos are more than Hausas. Lets be realistic. Nowhere at all but Igbos are more integrated with Yorubas than Hausas despite being new arrivals. In our family, two of my cousins married Igbo. When my cousin's son whose mom is Igbo visits me for instance, my customers will conclude he is my son back then in Ife because the resemblance is striking. His Mom is from Enugu while his Granddad is my Dad's younger brother. We dont have Hausa members of the family. A younger cousin also married an Igbo man from Anambra but as residents of SW, Igbos and Hausa population will be similar. So, no need for Igbos to say they are always second in all cities. That is not true at all. Maybe inside certain markets though.
In Ondo and Ekiti States Ebiras and NOT Ibos are second in population to the Yorubas from back in the day
I was told.

Fulaman we can't possibly believe a book written in 1921 by some colonialist who must have made numerous errors, is true in 2015 can we?

This is the result of the 1961 Census. The Yoruba and Hausa populations were neck to neck at the time.
Hausa population might have surged ahead between 1961 and now, but Yoruba would still very much solidly in 2nd place, knowing fully well that they have a higher birth rate compared to Igbos who at the time had a much less population, not to even talk of now.

Since you are Fulani, the fula number might also surprise you. I was personally pleasantly surprised, that we had that many beautiful Fulanis in Nigeria, as at 1963. If there were almost 5 million Fulas at the time, they are most probably around 15 million by now.... lets even assume 70% of them can't speak Fulfulde, that still leaves about 4.5 Million of them who can- which is definitely more than the 1.9 Million quoted in the OP's article.

Anyone interested in the full list can PM me, or quote me and demand for the rest.
The flawed 1921 census was a
tax-based enumeration so some folks in the West of Nigeria avoided it.

NOTE: The next census after 1921
stunningly showed an Ibo population in 1931 that was far
smaller than the census of 1921!

Stop speaking sellout jargon, the reason why Hausa for example is hosted on BBC is because they actually cherish and respect their language, unlike you. It's important for people to know their native languages, otherwise how can they call themselves Africans. No outsider (be it white or Asian) has respect for an African who can't even speak their native language. There is a reason foreigners go to countries like Mali or Senegal for their "African experience" because foreigners don't want to experience wannabe Westernised bullcrap.

The first book in the Igbo language (Isoama-Ibo: A Primer) was written by a Yoruba man, Rev Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther (1809-1891) in 1857.

The book had 17 pages, with the Igbo alphabet, words, phrases, sentence patterns, the Lord's Prayer, the Ten Commandments, and translations of the first chapters of Matthew's Gospel.

In 1882, Crowther also wrote the "Vocabulary of the Ibo Language", the first comprehensive dictionary in Igbo.

Crowther was the grandfather of Herbert Olayinka Macaulay (1864-1946), founder of Nigeria's first political party, whose father, Thomas Babington Macaulay (1826-1878), founded the first secondary school in Nigeria in 1859.

Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther was a well-read linguist and a Bishop of the Anglican Church. He did the same for the development of the Igala language just like he wrote the FIRST EVER book in Ibo language ATTACHED right from page one of the thread.

All African and European missionaries were encouraged to speak multiple languages.

The picture of over 150 Ijaw youths led by Tompolo himself all dressed in Egbesu war gears leaving where they currently settled upon our ancestral land without any form of harassment, molestation or attack whatsoever, and beating Ijaw drums of war in a show of force and audacity right before the eyes of our people, security agents, and multi national corporation workers in broad daylight, without thinking about the security implications of such provocative and inciting action to the peace that has existed between the Itsekiri people and the Ijaw people since the Warri crisis ended some years ago in an area that government both at the state and federal level including various stakeholders from both ethnic nationalities have tried painstakingly to maintain at a very high cost, was a sad reawakening of the bitter and sad memories of the gruesome killing of our innocent people and wanton destruction of our communities which we are yet to recover from.

By that singular action of Tompolo INVASION OF UGBORODO COMMUNITY UNDER THE OVER LORDSHIP OF THE OLU OF WARRI, His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse lll, he has shown that he did not believe in all the efforts of the state government and Federal Government to bring lasting peace and development to the area. Tompolo has also demonstrated publicly that our 21ist Olu' of Warri call for unity, peaceful co-existence and collective prosperity among Itsekiri people and all it's neighbors in the Niger Delta region so that good things can come to the region for the overall Interest of everybody, is nothing to him. He rather preferred an atmosphere of chaos, violence, bloodshed, lost of investment, lost of job opportunities, relocation of all oil and gas companies from Warri to elsewhere, and the total breakdown of law and order that profits him alone and his cohorts. By conducting himself in such a violent and provocative manner to cause fear and create tension at a time we are doing everything humanly possible to prevail on the state and federal government to bring the EPZ project to life so that millions of Deltans and Nigerians can be gainfully employed and rescued from the current hardship and insecurity is a clear indication that Tompolo is an animal in human flesh without any atom of concern for the ordinary youths suffering from the unemployment challenges bedeviling our people.

It is manifestly clear that by wearing the T-Shirts with the inscription of their king, and that of Tompolo, and driving speedboats in such a manner that sent panic and fear to the neighboring communitities, and travellers on the waterways on that fateful, Tompolo was trying to carry out a premeditated evil plan to attack innocent Itsekiri sons and daughters and also burn down Itsekiri communitities if there was a resistance to his foolishness. By openly claiming falsely that SAHARA is now SARABOBUWEI, and is the beginning of Gbaramatu kingdom, shows that he lacks any believe in constituted authority and the rule of law. Tompolo cannot continue to use his own primordial and selfish interest to cause mayhem and trouble for everyone in the area. He must be stopped once and for all. Moreso, the elders and the man who the state government gave staff of office as a traditional ruler of Gbaramatu has shown that he lacks the capacity to build bridges of friendship between his people and others especially at a time the Olu of Warri paid a visit to the state governor His Excellency, Sen. Dr Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, the Asagba of Asaba and the Obi of Owa all in a bid to bring peace and development to our area. Tompolo represents evil and darkness for the entire state and nation and must be tamed accordingly.

The stupid action bold as it may look, however did not take the Movement for the Protection of Iwere Homeland, Development and History (MPIHDH) by surprise as we have been monitoring the entire situation from inception. We have told Ugborodo community leaders the dangers of allowing the Ijaws to come and settle at the entrance of our creek and few meters from the Chevron tankfarm and EGTL yard which Tompolo and his criminal gangs have attempted on several occasions in 1999, and 2003 to burn down if not for the superior fire power of the combined military force which saw the death of some workers inside the yard and that of some security agents.

Tompolo's action is a clear demonstration of the fact of his hatred for the Itsekiri people and an UNPROVOKED call to arm conflict in our Kingdom. It is now abundantly clear that his "peace march" in Warri was a deception. For him to leave Gbabo, (which he and his cohorts changed to Oporoza) and invade our community and attempt to change the name from SAHARA to an alien name SARABOBUWEI, manifestly indicate that he is indeed Itsekiri nation's number one enemy. If a man like this have the state governor, come 2023, it will spell doom for innocent citizens and government investments and that of foriegn countries in Delta State and Nigeria in general.

This time around, Tompolo will not go scott free. The Movement-MPIHDH and the Itsekiri people has long prepared the permanent antidote to this madness in our homeland and Warri Kingdom.
Tompolo again?! SMH.
