PastorKun: In response to the claim of a "monster" fish thread claim on this thread https://www.nairaland.com/2448843/monster-fish-killed-two-nairaland/3#up i decided to post the pictures of the fish my friend caught in a lake inside IITA ibadan which is by far bigger than the 'fingerling' being called a monster fish in the other thread.
Xslaze3xd: Wow, PRO UNITATE I also attended FGC down south, I actually grew up in the South South Region, The Bura people are also in Yobe state, Bura are very intelligent people, the more reason why the Kanuris don't want us to either break away nor become Governor of the state, We run the important structures of the state. Former Governor of Kano, Ibrahim Shekarau is also Bura, his father migrated to Kano before Shekarau was born.
Ali Ndume is from Gwoza ethnic group in Gwoza LGA, also part of Southern Borno.
I even went to Buratai today, spent the whole day there, Since ASUU went on strike, I have been touring Borno South, I would have posted the pictures of my tour here on Nairaland, unfortunately I lost my smartphone while coming back from a one week tour of Hawul LGA in Yimirshika town in the first week of January, I'm using a Nokia Asha to surf the net and stay in touch for the moment. I'm touring Biu LGA currently. Nice Chatting With You.
^^^^^ ^^^^^ Great... brilliant!
About your lost phone, you may wish to contact the Nigerian Police "Intelligence Response Team" IRT under Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari's watch in Abuja, they can help you track it down if it was STOLEN.
The IRT unit was used to help a Senior Journalist with The Guardian newspaper to trace his lost phone in Lagos. Many kidnappers and fraudsters have also been tracked and arrested using advanced technology by the Nigerian Police.
Thanks Xslaze3xd for confirming authoritatively the former Governor of Kano, Ibrahim Shekarau's ancestry to Bura at last, and Sen. Ali Ndume's Gwoza links too. This is why I've been using Nairaland since 2005 because there are REAL people here... regardless of the trolling by some faceless people.
I read in a 2004 copy of the SUN newspaper that General Murtala Ramat Mohammed's father is from the Berom ethnic group in Jos South,of Plateau State, and he migrated to Kano when he became a muslim which was then a taboo among his Berom people. It was in Kano that he got married and Murtala was born. It was one of Murtala Mohammed's paternal uncles that granted that exclusive interview indicating that they are from Jos South in Plateau State. I still have that article in my archives.
The Tanko Yakasai family in Kano too are originally Jukun from Taraba State. A lot of people who are politically prominent in Kano are not even originally Hausa people from Kano from what we can deduce now. Though I'm originally of Southern ancestry, my time in the North [Kano] was a blessing as it further enabled me to appreciate Northerners and Nigerians better.
Xslaze3xd It seems like you are in a military institution? I wish you the BEST in your defence of the nation!
Ndlistic: In order to rid the North East of insurgency and sustain the tempo of operations in the region, the recently established Nigerian Army Vehicle Manufacturing Company has refurbished some Armored Fighting Vehicles (AFVs) to support Operation LAFIYA DOLE.
Some of the newly refurbished AFVs of both wheeled and tracked variants, are fully fitted with advanced communications equipment, gun mounds and sophisticated weapon systems.
These AFVs would serve as force multipliers and overall game changers in the theatre of operations.
peeps4u: LOL, see thinking. To you, everyone does samething online? What if he earns his living online? Would you say Linda wastes money for spending beyond that on data?
An average online earner like bloggers, forex/binary traders, social media influencers, youtubers etc will spend up to that and more than that in a week.
ACAN: Sustained Down Market Offers Entry Opportunities For Bargain Hunting On NGSE
Market Update for January 7 Monday’s session was another very tough and volatile one on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), leading to the fourth consecutive days of free fall in equity prices, as selloff was evident in almost all sectors, especially against the gathering clouds in the political environment and anxiety over Nigeria’s all-important Presidential election holding next month.
The NSE’s benchmark All-Share index closed lower on a relative low volume, after inching up at the opening session, but dropped sharply by the mid-morning till afternoon, breaking down the last strong support level of 30,542.86 basis points. It made new 52-week lower lows after touching intraday low of 30,260.03bps from the highs of 30,709.65bps, thereby extending the corrective wave six, before retracing up in the last few minutes to close the first trading day of the week at 30,400.28bps.
The market is likely to hit ANOTER new support level of 28,855.02bps before the elections proper. In the process, it would create more buying opportunities for discerning investors to take advantage of the prevailing situation and position for dividend and capital appreciation ahead of the forthcoming earnings reporting season.
The NSE in the last four trading sessions has ignored the rebounding oil price at the international market as it closed Monday at $58.37 per barrel (still below the Federal Government’s $60pb benchmark used for the 2019 budget), besides other seemingly positive macro-economic indices recently released. Monday’s market technicals were negative and mixed as traded volume was lower than previous day’s in the midst of negative breadth and sentiment, as revealed by Investdata’s Daily Sentiment Report, showing a sell volume of 69% and 31% buy position. Volume index for the day’s total transactions was 0.66, while momentum behind the market’s performance was marginally down, as reflected in the 36.25bps money flow index, from previous day’s 36.93bps, despite the down market and low traded volume which indicates that funds are leaving some stocks for others.
Index and Market Cap The NSE All Share Index at the end Monday’s session lost 238.62bps to close at 30,400.28bps, from 30,658.90bps, representing 0.78% decline, just as market capitalization shed N88.93bn, closing at N11.34tr, from the opening value of N11.43tr, representing a 0.78% value loss.
Attention: Join Investdata buy and sell signal setup to get all our in-depths analysis on the picture and to get access to our carefully created watch list. To become a member, send ‘YES’ or ‘STOCKS’ to the phone numbers below. The number of stocks on our watchlist has increased due to the prolonged market correction. Take advantage of this service to buy right and sell right. The downturn was due to profit taking and selloffs in stocks like Nestle, Okomu Oil Zenith Bank, FBN Holding, Flour Mills, Dangote Sugar, FCMB, Access Bank and UACN, among others, which left Year-to-Date loss at 3.28%, while market capitalization decline increased to N384.18bn, from its opening level of N11.72tr, representing a 3.28% decline.
Bearish Sectors Indices All sectoral indices on Monday were mostly bearish. Market breadth remained negative, with decliners outnumbering advancers in the ratio of 34:14, just as market activities were mixed with volume down by 33.42% to 222.58m shares from the previous day position 334.32m units. Value however rose 88.73% to N3.34bn from Friday’s N1.77bn, as transaction was driven by financial services stocks: Diamond Bank, Zenith Bank, FBNH, Guaranty Trust Bank and Access Bank.
Diamond Bank and Wapic Insurance were the best performing stocks, as they topped the advancers table, chalking 10% apiece and closing at N1.98 and N0.44 each, on market forces. On the flipside, NEM Insurance and Resort Savings Loan Plc led the decliners’ table also with 10% each to close at N2.34 and N0.45 each, on market forces and trend.
Market Outlook Technical tools remain negative with MACD, forming a double top on a daily time frame, while crossing down supports in the ongoing trendy and volatility amidst repositioning for 2018 full year earnings season to shape market performance ahead of December inflation data. There are also factors such as the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting holding this month, February’s Presidential election, earnings season beginning from February also and then the May 29 handover date. We advise cautious trading and investing in the days ahead.
The ongoing volatility will persist as Q3 numbers assist investors and fund managers rebalance their portfolios, while watching the political space and ahead of full year company earnings position and post-election market dynamics. These are likely to drive prices north, or south, while determining market direction before or after the Presidential Election. Investors should review their positions in line with their investment goals, strength of the company numbers and act as events unfold in the global and domestic environment.
However, we would like to reiterate our advice that investors should go for equities with intrinsic value, We advise investors to allow numbers guide their decisions while repositioning in any stock, especially now that stock prices remain low in the midst of mixed company numbers, weak economic and market fundamentals.

If only Obasanjo and Jonathan did half of this things for Southerners, we would have been following them like the way Northerners follow buhari like zombie.
The guy is the new Awolowo to the Northerners, from mabila dam, barough inland river port, kaduna dry port, to this one, dude even hoodwinked Nigerians out of $25m to explore Oil in the North, and they kept lowkey on the discovery next thing we heard was plans to build refinery in katsina, while Southerners speak big big grammars like nepotism, claninsh, his people are close to enjoying 24hrs light
The fact is that all politicians are all corrupt, while Nigerians call it bribe, Americans call it lobbying, nigerians call it loot, americans call it donation to campaign fund and charity foundation donation.
While PDP starts projects with the sole aim of looting its funds and abandoning it at the rate of 5% completion APC inflates cost of a project, so as to get kickbacks from contractors. This means rather than constructing a road at the rate of N32m per kilometer, you get a quotation of N45m, but they complete the projects with great standard and pace
^^^^^ ^^^^^
I agree with everything you said but your last paragraph... Inflation of contract has been on for decades and under Raji Fasola's ministry of works , they have been able to complete road projects while saving cost... Of course with the increase in inflation rates cost naturally goes up!
The Ilorin-Jebba road that was left abandoned by previous administrations has been completed by PMB 's government in less than 4 years!
baarak66: Now let's know who the real idiot is, you or him!!!
Below is Mike Ozekhome ,SAN. Argument Supporting the suspension of Justice Ayo Salami President of the court of Appeal by Jonathan over allegations of corruption without any evidence or case against him in any court. Pls read.5
*”According to Section 11 of the Interpretation Act, Cap 123, Vol. 8, LFN, 2004, the President can suspend indefinitely but not remove without senate. And the President just exercised this”*
This was the law that Mike Ozekhome ,SAN deployed in his argument supporting Jonathan but today the clown is calling for breakdown of law & order.
^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ That Mike Ozekhome.. I used to like him for his pro-democracy activities... It was after he got kidnapped in Edo State and the police rescued him during the era of GEJ that I noticed a change in his personality and he started defending corrupt people on an excessive basis!
deomelo: This is the most disgusting side of our legal and judicial system, the manipulation of the legal system where corrupt SANs frustrate the system with frivolous delays, injunctions, appeals and ultimately shopping for and bribing corrupt judges for favorable judgments. This is how the CJ end up with millions of dollars in his bank account to start with, this is how e arrived at this junction to start with.
The suspended CJ should have resigned after admitting or confessing that he broke the law, I mean, is he expecting to continue as the CJ after breaking the law and personally confessing?
The fact that his colleagues, the NJC and the NBA didn't advise or demand that he resign and step aside shows that the judiciary is grossly immoral, shameless. They are so used to having their corrupt ways that basic common sense and a strong sense of ethics demanded by their profession flew over their heads.
I'm glad that the President cut through the chase by sparing us the endless judicial drama, legal games, shopping for corrupt judges and courts to let a self-confessed criminal, a whole CJ evade justice.
Now, with this crooked and corrupt CJ sidelined, the NJC must do the needful to save their stained and battered profession, they must ask and force the disgraced suspended CJ to resign imediatly.
Well said!
This is why those PDP guys and their other satellite political parties must not be allowed to take control of the Federal Government as of now because this would mark the end of all corruption cases and Nigeria will be back to the very deep abyss of corruption!
Last week 2 former INEC officials were jailed for collecting millions from Diezani Allison Madueke as bribes to influence the 2015 elections.
Below is an article written by Audu Bulama Bukarti on the recent suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, made available to PoliticsNGR. Read Below;
"Given the supersonic speed at which the CCB & CCT are moving and the uncharacteristic enthusiasm of the FG to comply with judicial orders, I am suspicious of the motive behind the prosecution of the CJN.
I am also concerned with the time of the whole thing. But this is just a marginal note; a statement by the way side. I will keep it for another day.
Now, turning to the topic at hand, I do not see anything wrong or illegal with the suspension of the CJN and swearing-in yesterday of Hon. Justice Ibrahim Tanko. The action of PMB is constitutional. Nay, he had a duty to act in the way he did. Here are my seven reasons:
1. PMB did not act on his own motion. He acted on an Order of the CCT.
2. The CCT has an inherent power under Section 6 of the Constitution to issue any order that will promote the Rule of Law and ensure the smooth conduct of its proceedings. I believe this order does both. See point 7 below.
3. Some lawyers have argued that CCT’s Order is illegal or even unconstitutional. But this is not PMB’s business. He can’t question the legality of a judicial decision as doing so will tantamount to the president sitting on appeal on the Judgement of a Court.
4. Under our constitutional system, PMB has no option than to obey the said Order. That is why we have been urging him to obey the Orders on Dasuki and Zakzaky. I repeat the same call here toady;
5. The provisions of Section 292 cited by the NBA and others do not apply to this matter as the CJN was not “removed”. He was “suspended” pursuant to a valid and subsisting Order. The removal envisaged by and under Section 292 of the Constitution means “the dismissal of someone from a job” while suspension as in the present case means “[to] temporarily prevent from continuing or being in force or effect.”
6. The CJN is the head of the all Nigerian courts and Judiciary as well as the Chairman of the National Judicial Council which, under his Chairmanship, exercises supervisory and disciplinary role on all judges and judicial officer in Nigeria. This means any decision reached by CCT may likely go on appeal up to the Supreme Court where the CJN is at the helm of affairs.
7. It is against the rule of Natural Justice for Justice Onneghen to remain the CJN and Chairman NJC while facing trial under the same judges whose promotions, disciplinary and other related matters are under him;
8. I believe this action will facilitate quick dispensation of justice in this matter. Before the Order, the “generous SANs” representing the “poor” CJN had started taking steps that are clearly intended to frustrate his trial. They had started raising frivolous issues and making empty applications because they knew that their client had an upper hand. Now that he has been suspended, the defense counsel will be serious to prosecute the matter to its conclusion so that their client might be reinstated as quickly as possible if he is not found guilty.
9. Assuming, without conceding, that there are any anomalies in the procedure adopted. I would rather forgo any such anomalies for the crushingly disappointing alleged acts of the person who is suppose to hold those who violate our laws to account. I feel we must get the bottom of the allegations against the CJN whatever and punish him if he is guilty."
XTHRONE: No, but Good luck never did all that he is doing now, how dumb can you be , supporting an illiterate, you never know the impact of this in time to come. The world is watching, mark my words, Buhari will not win.
^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ Justice Ayo Salami was illegally removed by Goodluck Jonathan on August 11, 2011... Read more about it via Google Search.
Where did Justice Onnoghen get the over $3 million in his 5 bank accounts that he did not declare to the CCB? It is not from his salary but definitely from bribes offered by politicians to favour them or pervert justice in the past. This is why that PDP spokesman and others are panicking and lying to the citizens to try to confuse them! These people have not changed yet, and now they want to take power at they center but they will FAIL AGAIN.
He has confessed in writing that he forgot to declare the money... yet the corrupt Mafia are defending him openly.
These corrupt people have also threatened the life of Mr Dennis Aghanya who first filed the petition against Onnoghen's undeclared $3 million in 5 bank accounts and have also offered him up to N1 billion if he drops the petition against On Onnoghen. Security agents need to move in to protect Mr Aghanya who granted the interview to Saturday Punch of pg3, 19th January 2019, about the death threats and the N1billion bribe being offered to him by Justice Walter Onnoghen's supporters who he has identified as the same prominent people in the society who have openly defended Onnoghen in the media who are trying to divert attention by misleading the public with bogus legal jargons and endless legalese.
It shows that corruption is still alive and being propped up by desperate lawyers, politicians, and a corrupt and gullible supporter base.
Ishilove: Then it is time to update our secondary school history books.
^^^^^
^^^^^
Absolute Ishilove...
For instance Jaja of Opobo is often falsely
referred to as an "African nationalist" but I discovered
from reading advanced archival materials that
this former slave (who was brought from Imo
axis to the Ijaw area of Bonny Island) and later
escaped to Opobo which was part of Ikot Abasi
in the old Calabar Province, was a very wicked man
who prevented the Annangs and other Ibos of
the interior from trading with the white people
on the coast.
He was so brutal that he ordered the beheading
of those captives of rival ethnic groups. The British
who Jaja had helped to provide 50 mercenaries to
assist in defeating the Asanti during the
Anglo-Asanti War, and presented him with a gift of
a sword from the Queen of England, had to
eventually remove him from his monopolistic
role as a Middleman Chief in Opobo because he
was getting too arrogant and brutal.
The History of Nigeria by Sir Allan Burns
is a very popular book that was first written
in the 1920s and contains the real negative
actions of this guy called Jaja of Opobo.
Is this the person the so-called school books
have portrayed as a role model and African
hero and nationalist? Something is wrong
with those who crafted the school history
books!
maybachmusic: history cheated Akwa Ibom in this topic
This riot was more of Ikot Abasi riot and not aba
^^^^^ It started from Ikot Abasi and 53 women including the grandmother of Mr. Udo Udo Udoma the current Minister of Budget and Planning was among the gallant women of Ikot Abasi axis who were shot dead in 1929.
Aba also witnessed anti-tax riots too but Ikot Abasi was bloody! See my post directly above which buttresses your original point as well!
The primary and secondary school history books contain some misleading historical facts as well.
Xslaze3xd: Yes. I am from Southern Borno, same tribe with Buratai and also the sergeant you mentioned, from his third name MSHELIA, he is clearly from the same clan as my mum. BIU, HAWUL, SHANI, BAYO and KWAYAR KUSA LGA of BORNO STATE are all Bura/Babur Ethnic Group. COAS Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Lt.Gen) is from Buratai Village in BIU LGA.
What many people do not know is that the whole NORTH EAST are not hausa's, BORNO, YOBE. ADAMAWA. GOMBE. BAUCHI and TARABA have different distinct tribes but people think we are hausa because we speak hausa language and majority of us are Muslims.
^^^^^ ^^^^^
@xslaze3xd
Thanks for the great feedback!
I have learned some more information about the Bura people today. Nigeria is a historically rich and blessed country.
I attended an FGC in the North decades ago and I was very fortunate to have met great friends from almost all parts of Nigeria at the Federal Government College. I even knew some Mshelias in Kano. I was based in Lagos then while schooling up North.
Some of them were from Old Borno State. You guys have very brilliant people in Borno/ Southern Borno. I had to even start searching for some of my old school friends on Facebook from Southern Borno, Plateau, Kaduna, Adamawa etc. One of them is Alh Waziri Ibrahim's son from Borno and the GNPP 2nd Republic Presidential candidate in the 2nd Republic, was my school mate and I had another school friend from Borno named Jiri... who were very brilliant guys!
I noticed back then on Facebook that there is a movement for the creation of Savanna State in Southern Borno... Is the movement still on for the new state creation?
I guess Senator Ali Ndume who is from Southern Borno is a Bura as well? I like him because as a former lecturer, he is very brilliant and also a very good communicator with a good sense of humor.
I was reading a book years ago that General Yakubu Gowon's ethnic group (Angas) migrated from Borno axis.
Someone on Nairaland posted last year that former Kano State Governor Shekarau's Parentage is of Bura origin.
Thanks again for this great information you have share with me and I'll keep in touch if I have more questions to ask on Borno history and traditions.
PS: Bura ethnic group can be found in both Borno and Adamawa States from the pictures I've attached below.
Ishilove: She deserves every insult the man gave. She is mannerless, rude and very immature. There are firm and effective ways to rebuff unwanted male attention without resorting to insults.
Idiota
^^^^ ^^^^ The young lady was very rude... from the get go! The guy too was verbally toxic
A man of 35 is not too old for a 23-year-old female. Just 12 years age difference!
Brio984: thanks alot 4 the info it seems d law is two sided.. well we need d senate now to reverse Wat buhari has done.. I pray CJN should pay 4 his crime.. I know buhari is not fighting corruption he is only fighting 4 2nd term if he were to be fighting corruption Abdullahi Ganduje should be in jail now
Ganduje cannot be in jail now because he has immunity like all Governors and the President and the VP!
Ganduje has not been proven guilty yet based on a video that could have been doctored.
I agree that if there is any known and proven infraction by EFCC against the CCT boss then he should step down too and if not... then he should stay.
I remember that PMB submitted an anti-corruption bill since 2015 to the Senate and it has not been passed and some say the anti-corruption war is not strong... Why will it not be when Saraki has sat on that important bill since 2015!
The next Senate President must be more diligent for the benefit of Nigeria!
AnambraIstson, I agree that if there is any known and proven infraction by EFCC against the CCT boss then he should step down too and if not... then he should stay.

Biodun556: Nigerians must not always rely on the opinion of lawyers who like to play on words and duel technicalities in law. They will come on the media to condem corruption and go to court next day to defend corruption.
^^^^^^ ^^^^^^
Absolutely... Sometimes one gets exasperated with the legal profession because of the double speak from some lawyers and their legalese!
Tetehjewels: The CJN himself admitted in writing that he committed the " crime of omission".
He declared himself guilty.
You are the Olodo
^^^^
Thank you! The members of the corruption mafia
are in the Judiciary, a section of the media and
among politicians who have offered bribes to
the judges and that is why people like the PDP
spokesman Ologbondiyan and a lot of lawyers
are saying it is a coup and using all kinds of
stupid adjectives to defend Onnoghen and divert
attention from their evil ways and schemes.
Onnoghen should say how he got over $3million that
Some of his colleagues who have worked for 50years
in the Judiciary or legal profession do not have.
They might be proceeds of electoral bribes linked
to one of the big political parties in Nigeria to
pervert justice!
Corruption is killing Nigeria but Nigerians in the
Diaspora and at home must not give up, but crush
it!

^^^^^ ^^^^^ Onnoghen has already admitted that he forgot to declare the money in the domiciliary accounts which is an offense... All these people are not even talking about that... It is a shame on PDP and the rest like Agbakoba. A crime was committed and the man was suspended... Not removed.
Why the scare mongering by Ologbondiyan and some other lawyers? The way they have all been making threats shows they are corrupt and have something to hide.
Dr Aghanya, the man who exposed the Onnoghen Hidden accounts said he is being threatened and being offered money running to N1 billion if he drops the case. The financial offers are coming from the same people who are shouting and defending Justice Onnoghen publicly.
The interview was granted to Saturday Punch last week on pages 1&2. Clearly corruption is alive in the Judiciary especially when it comes to electoral matters. Where did Onnoghen get such huge undeclared money - over $3million from?
Onnoghen has admitted that he did not declare the money in the accounts.
Charmingrascal: Those monies should be taking to the museum. Biafra is still achievable probably when a genuine leader with no aggression towards other tribes emerges from the East. A leader that stays in Nigeria and knows the pain of his people not an aggressive one that will endanger the lives of his people by instigating them against the military. A leader that understands that sometimes it's diplomacy and not aggression that can win battle
Bash me I don't care the truth is bitter.
^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ I'm an expert on Nigerian Civil War history and have a deep knowledge of pre/post Civil War history.
Those rebel currencies had NO value because they were REJECTED by the International community and could not be used as legal tenders during the Civil War.
Infact Ojukwu ordered that Nigerian Pounds should be submitted by all returnee Ibos and non-Ibos in the former Eastern Region because they had more value than the hurriedly created rebel enclave currency notes... which could ONLY be used in the Rebel enclave and eventually became valueless like toilet paper shortly before the Oso Agha (Civil War) ended.
It may shock you that more than 1 year after Secession it was Nigerian Pounds that Colonel Ojukwu and his team were using to buy weapons in the international arms black market.
Then the big BANG. On the advice of the British, Nigeria changed her currency notes in 1968, and then all the old Nigerian Pounds the rebels had collected from returnees to the breakaway Eastern region of Nigeria, including those in the treasury and those looted from the Central Banks branches, became useless because they couldn't buy things in the international market again and that was one of the main reasons the Civil War ended when it did thereby reducing the loss of more lives! The Civil War should even have ended in early 1969 but Federal Forces had to be less aggressive to avoid civilian casualties.
So, the Rebel currency notes were WORTHLESS in the international community because they knew the supposed "country" was illegally created without the support of the TRUE leadership of the minority ethnic groups such as the leaders of the COR Movement (Calabar, Ogoja, Rivers) such as Ken Saro Wiwa, Chief Harold Dappa - Biriye from Bonny Island and who is seen as the father of the Ijaw nation... and many more who accused Ibos of forcing them into a breakaway enclave. So they stayed with Nigeria and these ethnic minorities provided troops and fighters for the Nigerian Armed Forces... Such as Colonel Etuk, Isaac Jasper Adaka - Boro from Ijaw and Captain Elechi Amadi, the former President-General of Ogbakor Ikwere who fought in the 3rd Marine Commando of the Nigerian Army during the Civil War.
The United Nations also did not recognize the Secession so the rebel leadership had to use Nigerian Pounds right into 1968 to stay afloat.
I have since 1981 read books written by Officers who were active on both sides during the Civil War so I have vast knowledge in this area from OBJ, to Alexander Madiebo, to Hilary Njoku, Alabi-Isama and more!
Please read more as it enables you to be savvy, wise, and avoid mistakes of the past.
bigfrancis21: Akpanya is a community under Igalamela/Odolu L.G.A of Kogi State. Being a border town between Kogi and Enugu States (Kogi is circled in blue in the map above), it’s so far away from its Local Government Secretariat which is located at Ajaka and very close to Igboeze South and Igboeze North Local Government areas in Enugu state. The community is made up of about 6000 Muslims, living in the Christian majority community - about 95% of the community are Ibos (Igbo and Hausa languages are commonly spoken). The Igbo Muslim community of Akpanya are not originally from the village, but made "hijrah" to the community after their ancestors converted to Islam. They have a very long history in the Akpanya community and are fully integrated into the community and its life. The Akpanya village is a very remote village that seem to enjoy nothing from the government in terms of provision of infrastructure- no good roads, no drinking water, no electricity, no good schools and no hospitals. These Igbo Muslims of Akpanya have for time immemorial been mainly petty traders except for few among the younger generation now that are drivers in different companies and organizations, they survive on little, yet they tasked themselves to work extra for the purpose of making sure that their faith is maintained by building a Mosque which is used up to today as their one and only Central Mosque. There are two other Mosques three kilometers away from the central Mosque but are never used for Juma'ah Prayer. meaning, that all the sorrounding communities converge at this Mosque every Friday. Adjcent to the Central Mosque, is an uncompleted building which is serving as a classroom for teaching Islamic Studies, and it is called Islamiyya School. There are no desks, no chairs and no good blackboard. The Akpanya Muslim Community According to Alhaji Sayyidi (the Mufassir of the community), Akpanya is a very large community within which you can drive up to 40 kilometers before leaving the community. The inhabitants are mostly settlers who are Fulanis and the Ibos (Ethnic Ibos being the larger segment of the population). Married men number around 500.
The Akpanya Christian Community with the help of the Catholic Church founded a school of higher standard that rivals that of the Muslims and so virtually all the Christian children were withdrawn, including some of the Muslims. This caused a decline in the population of the school which adversely affected the income of the School; as such, the highest pay for a teacher per Month now, dropped to four thousand Naira Only(4,000).
bigfrancis21: I do not think anyone here claimed the entire Ibaji to be Igbo but if I am correct, what was said rather was Igbo-influenced. Truth be told, Ibaji Igalas have a lot of Igbo influence in them that cannot be denied, from physical outlook, to speaking somewhat an Igbo-influenced Igala dialect, to even outlook on life. It is no brainer that so-called 'core igalas' from Idah and environs refer to Ibajis as 'omo Igbo' because of their Igbo-looking physical looks and also way of life. The entire Igala land uses the 4 Igbo market days which is of Nri origin. Idomas too and the Binis as well.
Also, we have an Igbo-speaking community made of several villages located in Igalamela/Odolu LGA - Eke Afulugo (Eke Avurugo) where Igbo is the first or native language and Igala comes as a second language to communicate with other Igalas. Akpanya is another Igbo-speaking community in Igalamela LGA where the natives speak entirely Igbo language and nothing else. Their speaking Igbo cannot just be tied down to inter-tribal marriage with Igbo speaking people. I find that hard to believe. Igbos from the Nsukka area must have settled down there in large numbers, and either assimilated the natives there or pursued them away. Odolu town in Igalamela LGA speaks Igbo as second language and Igala as first language. In addition, many towns in Igala south area have what we would call typical Igbo sounding names such as onicha, umueze, etc. Just as we have a few bilingual Igala speaking towns in Enugu state and Anambra state.
What I have often noticed is this taboo attitude somewhat to admitting to an Igbo influence or cultural exchange by other tribes but foreign-borrowed cultural exchanges by the Igbo from other tribes should be swallowed down the drain with full force. I always tell people, in history you cannot pick and choose which historical event to believe and what not to believe. Migrations in the past were not in one direction. A lot of to and fro movements happened between the borders of Igbo land north and Igala land south. In the end let us be mature enough to accept that we borrowed cultural influences from here and there. Such cultural exchanges happened when there was no collective ethnic identity, all that existed to the people were just languages.
^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ Iba ji (Fever Wake/Woke) in Yoruba language
I read a book where fever in Ibo language is also called Iba.
What does Ibaji mean in Igala language? What is fever in Igala?
