Ishilove: I saw this very remarkable historical piece on Facebook, by Mazi Uba Acho. It's good to finally have pictures. Sort of makes it more than a legend.
Right here are the real MVPS.
Although history lessons taught in school give me a slightly different version of events, I will admit that this article gives me a warm and tingly feeling up my spine.
^^^^ ^^^^ ^^^^ Hi Ishilove I'm just seeing your post and I've got some perspectives to add to it for the benefit of those who may not know. Women from 6 ethnic groups in the Calabar and Owerri Provinces were involved in the anti-tax riots from November to December, 1929!
The ACTUAL tax riots/rebellion started from Ikot Abasi in the present Akwa Ibom State by the gallant Ibibio women in 1929 and NOT Aba like the urban legend goes. The Ikot Abasi colonial tax revolt involved the grandmother of the current Minister of Budget and Planning... Mr. Udo Udo Udoma (Madam Mary Edem Udoma, who was the mother of Justice (Sir) Egbert Udoma Udoma ), who led the protests and she was shot dead too! The riot led to the killing of several women (53) of Ikot Abasi and nearby communities to Ikot Abasi by gun shots under the orders of the white colonial officer. These women who were shot dead in 1929 in Ikot Abasi are the REAL heroines of the anti-tax struggle!
The false reference to Aba as being the source of the tax riot has NOW been corrected and several art exhibitions, symposia, and documentaries have been produced to remember the great women of Ikot Abasi. The HQ of the colonial Eastern Nigeria and Cameroons was in Enugu... So when the news of riots broke out, it was that of Aba they heard first before the Ikot Abasi episode. But that historical error of 1929 has be corrected now. I got to know about this in the early 2000s as well.
You may wish to read up more on this online or via YouTube.
I hope this helps to add more meat to your post.
Cheers!
PS: Pictures of the Women War Museum in Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom State attached below.
According to OrangeFM, 30 year old Chinyere Onuara, who said she is a widow and mother of five, was arrested at the front of a commercial bank in Akure where she had been begging for alms for months.
She was apprehended alongside her 4 year old son, Chidibere, whose plight actually got the attention of the officials of the ministry and they made an attempt to rescue the woman and the son, unknown to them that she wasn’t blind.
During interrogation, Chinyere claimed to have left Ebonyi for Akure, few weeks ago, to assist one of her friend who is said to be blind, to collect alms, but everything didn’t go as planned when she got to Akure, in Ondo State.
She said the instead of using her as guide for her alms collection, her blind friend decided to go for another person and so she made the decision to disguise as a bling beggar to make ends meet. She eventually confessed that she makes at least N1,000 daily.
Chinyere expressed regret over her action and said it was to raise money to start a trade, upon the recent demise of her husband after he was allegedly poisoned. She appealed to the state government to empower her, rather than punish her. And he promised that she would never go back into such means of extorting money from the public anymore.
The Director of Social Welfare in the Ministry, Sola Aladesuyi, revealed that the ministry will contact her Ebonyi counterpart to verify Chinyere’s claims to be sure she is not a security risk to the state, before she is sent back.
She is currently being detained at the State Ministry of Woman Affairs.
... Many beggars pretending to be physically challenged... Yes quite a couple of Ibo have been caught begging by falsely claiming to have cancer or some other ailments. It is a quick way of making money for some because of the kind nature of some Nigerians. We read these a lot in the media!
bettymygirl: It's the farming season again. Get your GNLD Super Gro for a bountiful harvest this season.
GNLD Super Gro is a miracle wonder formula that increases harvest for crops, trees, and fish farmers... including other live stock!!! It is very easy to use plus it is safe to handle, non-toxic, non-caustic & non-flammable. Super Gro can be used for all kinds of agricultural crops and trees; VEGETABLES; Ugu, Spinach, Cabbage, Carrots, Okro, etc. ROOT CROPS & TUBERS; Yam, Cassava, Cocoyam, etc. FRUITS; Pineapple, Mangoes, Oranges, Pawpaw, etc. GRAINS; Beans, Rice, Maize, Soyabeans, Groundnut, etc. Super Gro can also be used to improve the quality in FISH FARMING; Catfish, etc Super Gro improves crop yield by as much as 167% How Does GNLD Super Gro Work..? GNLD’s Super Gro acts as both an adjuvant and a surfactant .On one hand, an adjuvant is an agent designed to aid in substances’ action. On the other hand,surfactants are wetting agents.It may seem contradictory, but water does not always “wet” plants and their roots very well. Thus, often it tends to bead up on the waxy surfaces of plants, lawns and gardens, and before water even has a chance to penetrate, it runs off or evaporates. GNLD Super Gro helps make water “wetter” by reducing its surface tension in addition to acting as a wetting agent. GNLD’s Super Gro helps conserve water. It tends to increase the rate at which water penetrates common soils. As a surfactant, GNLD Super Gro acts as an emulsifier to disperse oils, as a wetting agent to lower surface tension and as a dispersing agent to reduce adhesion between particles of chemicals, so they will spread and remain in solution longer. More water reaches the roots of the plant and stays there making the plant grow in lesser time! GNLD Super Gro makes other agricultural treatments a farmer uses (like fertiliser, insecticides and pesticides), perform better by helping them penetrate deeper, stick better, stay longer and work more effectively. GET YOUR APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENT RIGHT Please note that an average American football field approximately about 1.3 acres and a British or UEFA Football field is approximately about 1.7 acres. So local football fields in Nigeria may vary approximately from 1 to 2 acres of land. Also, 1 teaspoon is approximately equal to 5ml and 1 tablespoon is approximately equal to 15ml.How To Use GNLD Super Gro For Crops Vegetables, peppers, onions, yam, cocoyam, soya beans, groundnut, etc. Add 1ml of Super Gro to 1 liter of water. Agitate gently and spray on the leaves and stem of the plant. Apply every week, two weeks, three weeks or monthly before flowering. Add 20ml of Super Gro to 20 litres of water to spray 1/4 acre of land. Add 200ml of Super Gro to 250 litres of water to spray 1 hectare of land. Other Things To Note...After spraying crops with Super Gro, you may see white dots on the plant early in the morning. Do not touch it or worry about it. It attaches solar energy to the plant. Plant your crops in ridges to have a narrow site to walk and spray. After the first spray, spray again with Super Gro every 3 weeks. If you use chemicals to weed your farm, allow the effect of the chemical to wear out first before applying Super Gro i.e. apply Super Gro after four days of using weeding chemicals. If you weed manually with cutlass, pack your weeds and use Super Gro the next day. IF YOU FARM IN NORTHERN NIGERIA WHERE THE WEATHER IS HOT, WHEN THE SUN IS UP, DO NOT SPRAY SUPER GRO ON THE PLANTS BECAUSE SUPER GRO HAS ITS OWN INTERNAL SOLAR STRENGTH. How To Use GNLD Super Gro For Tree & Cash Crops Mango, orange, oil palm, kolanut, pineapple, rubber, cocoa, etc.Add 1ml of Super Gro to 1litre of water. Agitate gently and spray on the leaves and stem of the plant. Apply every week, two weeks, three weeks or monthly before flowering. Add 20ml of Super Gro to 20 litres of water to spray 1/4 acre of the lawn.Add 200ml of Super Gro to 250 litres of water to spray 1 hectare of the lawn. Other Things To Note For tree crops, a boom sprayer is the best for applying Super Gro. The pressure from a boom sprayer gets more Super Gro onto the crop. If you do not have a boom sprayer, use a watering can but make sure the mouth of the can is not too wide so that your product will not waste. Do try and get a boom sprayer, it is more economical. How To Use Super Gro For Fish Farming Catfish, etc. Concrete or mud ponds are most preferable. Fill the pond with water. Estimate the amount of water in the pond and add 1ml of Super Gro for every 10litres of water in the pond and agitate gently. Leave this treated water for 7 to 10days to fertilize the pond then flush away the treated water. Put fresh water and leave in the pond for 5 to 7 days then stock your fish. Super Gro is very cost effective. You only need 1ml of Super Gro for every 10 litres of water you use in your fish pond. Super Gro promotes the uniform growth of fish. Your fish become bigger and the same size. Super Gro naturally promotes the growth of plankton inside the pond and this not only prevents the death of fish, it prevents the fish from feeding each other. Super Gro also reduces how often you need to change the water in your fish pond because it increases the amount of oxygen dissolving in the pond, reduces ammonia level and maintains the natural water PH in the pond.Super Gro can be used in plastic, mud or concrete ponds. In comparison to using organic manure, Super Gro is more hygienic because it prevent odour and scurrying. Super Gro is cost effective. You only need 1ml of Super Gro for every 10 litres of water you use in your fish pond. How To Use Super Gro For Gardening; Indoor Plants & Lawns .Add 20ml of Super Gro to 20 litres of water to spray 1/4 acre of land. Add 200ml of Super Gro to 250 litres of water to spray 1 hectare of land. This same solution will also work for garden and indoor plants. Spray on leaves and stems (as in crop plants).Super Gro can also be used for indoor plants, flower gardens and lawns. Flowers tended with Super Gro bloom faster, are richer, fresher and more appealing to the eyes. They also do not die quickly because they conserve water on their leaves, stems and roots. Indoor plants treated with Super Gro last longer in their vases or flower pots. Lawns nurtured with Super Gro have greener grass and appear richer and more luxurious. When used together with GNLD Super 10 ( a natural insect repellent), will decrease pests in flowers. In one experiment, red spider infestation of roses was decreased by 43%.When used with fungicides, GNLD Super Gro will reduce early blight in flowers. Powdery mildew in roses was reduced by as much as 35% when Super Gro was used along with crop treatment!!!

policegirl22: What is the GEEP initiative really about?
GEEP is a microcredit programme that provides much-needed capital to traders, artisans, farmers, petty traders. It is one of the social intervention programmes of the Federal Government and comprises three products: MarketMoni, FarmerMoni, and TraderMoni. GEEP was initiated in 2016 by the Federal Government; with an understanding that there are over 30 million Nigerians at the base of the pyramid in active commercial activity but never have an opportunity to access credit. In 2017, only 0.04% of bank loans went to this micro-segment.
Yes GEEP has impacted the lives of many Nigerians.
^^^^^ ^^^^^ ... These people who say the program is vote-buying are pathetic people and are the enemies of the citizens of Nigeria who's businesses have been boosted by this program.
TraderMoney started in 2016... Under the GEEP Program.
Kagawa10: Lol. How does empowering petty traders translate to buying votes? You don't even need Pvc to be eligible for tradermoni. Transparent media should go and sit down if they know nothing.
Is this empowering scheme not better than Jona looting us dry for more than 5yrs without giving us anything in return?
Canada is a developed country yet is suffering from this sweeping recession but you expect a developing country as Nigeria whose economy is oil dependent especially at a time oil is selling at a low $50 rate, not to be in recession?
If the stupid Jonathan hadn't looted us dry at a time oil was selling at $110 rate, if he had saved more as well as constructed major infrastructures, we wouldn't be suffering at this time oil is selling at $50 rate. Better still, if the klepto hadn't also looted our foreign reserve from $48b to $26b, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in.
Despite earning 60% less than the previous regime, this admnistration has come up with several social, agricultural and infrastructural projects. Look at Lagos-Ibadan road and other roads being constructed, our new railway lines, new rice mills, cheap fertilizer production, Npower social schemes, tradermoni etc yet you expect us to vote in a useless party that destroyed our economy again?
Atiku, neva again.
^^^^ ^^^^ @kagawa10
THANK YOU for your post!
This is one of the most ridiculous accusations EVER. TraderMoni is NOT vote buying but an Interest - free loan program managed by the BOI or Bank of Industry(which has also given out bigger loans to such Nigerian companies like ProForce in Ogun State which makes armoured personnel vehicles for the military and also Innoson) . The Vice President being the Head of the Economic Team is only overseeing the program with BOI input!
There are programs such as TraderMoni in other countries that have successfully lifted or boosted the businesses of small or petty traders who constitute the bulk of all traders in Nigeria... and From watching BOI Weekly on Channels TV you will see that the traders are happy. This LIE that the program is vote buying started with the PDP propaganda. Something is definitely wrong with some Nigerians who do not want progress for other people.
I'm surprised that anyone would credit Rafsanjani who is a human rights activists with such anti-people comments.
Xslaze3xd: You are right bro,
NB: Buratai ethnic group is Bura/Babur, a southern Borno tribe.
^^^^
So Gen. Buratai is not a Kanuri ?
Are you from Southern Borno too?
A lot of people mistakenly think everyone
in the Far North is a Hausa, Kanuri or Fulani
not knowing that there are many other ethnic
groups in the North... and so when PMB appoints
some people from the north, some tribal bigots
such as Edwin Clark start shouting marginalization
and saying PMB is nepotistic. The current
Chief of Staff to PMB is Boss Mustapha a non-Muslim
from Adamawa so what do these people want
again in a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country
such as Nigeria.
Most of them never knew that non-Muslims exist
in Southern Borno, Southern Yobe and the like
until the Chibok girls got kidnapped in 2014.
Barnabas Jabila Mshelia (Sergeant Rogers) is
from Borno for instance.
Last year, during the Ipob protests in Aba, the protesters at Ariaria attempted burning down the police station opposite the Ariaria market. The policemen called for reinforcements and a Mopol team was sent to the station.
That Mopol team was headed by an Igbo man and when he got there, instead of him to ask his men to quell the situation, he started making calls and delaying. His men were getting impatient but he asked them to stand down and kept making calls to different people, speaking Igbo language.
Eventually, he pulled his men out and that station was burnt with a policeman killed. In fact, when the Ipob protesters killed the policeman, they were rejoicing until it was revealed later on that the late policeman was from Imo state and also igbo. That's when they became sober. If he wasn't Igbo, they wouldn't have cared. The death of the policeman was here on Nairaland and many Igbos supporting Ipob were applauding it here on Nairaland.
The truth is that for most Igbos, primordial sentiments overcome logic and in political decisions, you can't joke with the loyalty of your security chiefs. Election is coming and you want an Igbo IGP? These guys think Buhari is daft.
Hope you guys remember that Evans the Igbo kidnapper was once arrested in Imo and was released by the Igbo CP before he was arrested again in Lagos.
Until we get Igbos like Dora Akunyili in the Police, Igbos can forget being the IGP. The position of IGP is not anyone's right, it's a political rank. Show commitment and loyalty to the Government of the day and you would get much more than IGP position.
The police force won't be run the way you guys ran Diamond Bank. Paschal Dozie the father of that lmbecile called Uzoma Dozie can explain better to you in Igbo.
Igbos don't deserve anything and they won't get anything till they align. They can cry all they want, but that is the bitter truth. Sensible Igbos have said this same thing I'm saying but the vast majority of policically daft ones shout them down.
She crashed from a net worth of $4.5 billion to $0. The sad story of Elizabeth Holmes, female tech billionaire who went from grace to grass. Now she faces 20 years in prison.
The name Elizabeth Holmes might not really ring a bell especially to those outside the United States. But trust me, she was almost as popular and influential as Steve Jobs. Everyone called her the “female Steve Jobs” and she began wearing black turtleneck sweaters just like Steve Jobs. She succeeded in pulling off the biggest fraud ever in the history of Silicon Valley. A crime that would have given her the death penalty if she were in China. Let’s look at how this promising young “visionary” tech billionaire made it to the top until it all came crashing down.
Elizabeth Holmes was a school dropout at Stanford University. Before that, she had come up with a great idea that would change medical tests forever. Her idea was simple, a small machine that can run many blood tests with just a drop of blood and do it much cheaper than the normal cost. With a single drop of blood, she said she could detect medical conditions such as cancer and so on. She was so convinced that her idea would succeed that she had to drop out of Stanford University and start her company. At just 19 years old, she launched her company called Theranos, a company that would change the world of medical science. She was always driving around with bodyguards and expensive black Audi cars.
Then she began to source for funds from influential billionaires such as Larry Ellison, founder of Oracle, Rupert Murdoch, and many others. She raised billions of dollars by convincing them that she has the technology to make it work. They all gave her lots and lots of money. Elizabeth Holmes began to attract lots of attention from the media. Forbes estimated her net worth to be over $4.5 billion, making her the richest self-made female billionaire in America. Her company Theranos was worth over $9 billion. She was named one of the most influential women in the world by Fortune magazine. She even employed her boyfriend and made him the president of the company and second in command.
Heavance: please someone should explain this..... presently, have we stopped exporting?
^^^^ ^^^^ Hi Heavance !
Emefiele is referring to the export of REFINED Petroleum products instead of the export of Unrefined crude oil that is taking place as of now.
Nigeria used to be a major exporter of REFINED Petroleum products after satisfyingly the Nigerian market in the 1980s when Shagari and General Muhammadu Buhari were President and Head of State respectively. It was from the corrupt IBB era that the refineries got destroyed to pave the way for brazen importation of refined petroleum-based products from abroad.

^^^^^ ^^^^^ ... @quentin06
No... Pump price per litre of fuel will drop to N50 to N60 because the refinery is based in Nigeria.
So it's either he gets his 650kbpd from the current 2m bpd or gets his crude from somewhere else
^^^^^ ^^^^^ You're right... Dangote has already signed deals with Trafigura and other international crude oil traders to supply feedstock for the refinery in addition to the feedstock that would be got from Nigeria.

This is just to serve as a motivation to our young and upcoming brothers and sisters still in the labor market struggling to make ends meet.

Cancelling the fraudulent subsidy in Nigeria is one of the major steps we need to take in order for us to move forward.
We have wasted trillions upon trillions of naira that we would have used to build a whole lot for NIGERIA on consumption
^^^^^^ ^^^^^^
Hi Ugosample! Please read my post again.
I'm in SUPPORT of the removal of the fuel subsidy on the completion of the Dangote Refinery in 2019/2020 as indicated in my post!
I didn't say the removal of fuel subsidy is unwise. I said the removal RIGHT NOW would be unwise because it would lead to massive inflation and that would lead to serious economic hardship for the citizens of Nigeria. A serious social revolt/riots with serious unintended consequences would evolve from any government that does so. The fuel subsidy has acted as an economic cushion for the vast majority of low- income Nigerians.
Subsidies are NOT bad as countries in the Western world, China and more have all kinds of subsidies to maintain economic and social stability in their various countries.
I absolutely agree with YOU that over the years, trillions have been spent/wasted that could have been used to build new refineries.
Starting with the military era of IBB, Abacha and even the first 16 years of democracy, the 4 major refineries did not undergo regular TAM or Turn-Around-Maintainance which is supposed to be done every 2 years, and so this led to the needless importations in a country that produces crude oil onshore and offshore.
"As a matter of fact, gas from our gas pipeline will augment the natural domestic gas supply and we estimate an additional 12,000MW of power generation can be added to the grid with the additional gas from our system",
I expect Lagos state government to tap into this. Once this refinery becomes fully operational and the gas pipeline project has been completed, I see no reason why Lagos state shouldn't have 24/7 power supply.
@Ajibel
You're absolutely correct!
Lagos and Ogun States will take full advantage of the increase in power output from Dangote Refinery because they are the most industrialized in Nigeria.
Remember that Yinka Folawiyo Petroleum had struck gas with some quantity of oil in the late 1990s in Ibeju - Lekki , so that axis is going to witness more energy production... Yinka Folawiyo also struck oil and gas onshore and offshore Badagry in the late 1990s.
The offshore oil and gas off Badagry is now being drilled because of improvements in oil exploration technology.
Great one for Lagos and Nigeria
All the best! ~~~~~~ ~~~~~~ Last but not least, I found out from further research that aside from using the classic kitchen oven, you can also bake chicken pies (and meat pies) without ovens and air fryers too can be used to bake chicken pies as well! Chicken pies baked in Air Fryers take about 22 minutes, in regular ovens it takes 45 minutes, and without ovens it takes about 60 minutes! I've included some vids and links on how to use these as well right BELOW. I've included some vids and links on how to use these as well right BELOW.
I have you to thank for triggering the desire in me to know how to bake chicken pies for the first time ever because of the unique golden brown looks of your oven-baked chicken pies. The pictures of the golden looks of your chicken pies instantly reminded me of the unique smells and tastes of the chicken pies of the big fast food outlets. When I finally try it out myself, I know it's going to turn out right.

The Oshoosi is a deity believed to be the father of philanthropy and religious congregation for purity and sanity in Yoruba land. The festival is always held to honor Oshoosi and pray to him.
obailala: Anyone who is president when this project fully comes on stream would have a smooth sail with the economy. And as is usually the case for politicians, the govt then would claim all the glory saying it's their stellar economic policy that's yielding fruits.
^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ @obailala
You are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!
I have my sympathies for the CURRENT APC government because they at least steered Nigeria out of recession which came as a result of the massive drop in crude oil price, and have laid the economic foundations gradually with the completion of road such as the Ilorin-Jebba highway which previous governments never completed. I saw the Oba of Jebba in Kwara State thanking the current for completing the road which should ordinarily take 45 minutes to drive from Ilorin to Jebba... and on to Northern Nigeria by driving across the River Niger at Jebba into Niger State.
The next government at the Federal level will definately become popular when the 650,000 barrels/day refinery comes on stream. People would subconsciously tranfer much love to the incoming government.
It is also good that the current government has NOT removed the petroleum subsidy due to the increase in global oil price after the recession and also during the heavy winter periods in the Western world. Doing so would have made Nigerians to suffer more than they are doing now.
Peter Obi was saying during the Vice Presidential Debate that PDP would remove the petroleum subsidy... but this is VERY UNWISE, just as Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said because Nigerians would SUFFER more economically with over 200% rise in the cost of good and services. It baffles me that some people are insulting this government, NOT realising that the Federal Government is doing Nigerians a favour. The oil subsidy should ONLY BE REMOVED when Dangote Petrochemical Refinery starts producing from end of April 2019 through to early 2020!
Several countries had recessions during that period... including some oil-producing countries and primarily that of Nigeria was caused by insufficient foreign exchange [FX] in the Central Bank of Nigeria [CBN] to fund imports, so ultimately OIL & GAS DIVERSIFICATION is the key as the 21st Century advances!
2aces: Only God knows where we would have been without a man like Dangote. A man bigger than the Nigerian government.
^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^ Part of the project is self-financed by Dangote himself, some funding also came through loans as well. Nigeria and the world need bold and savvy men like Dangote.
I never really liked him in the 1980s and 1990s because he was ONLY involved in importation and it parly led to the stunted growth of the economy by transfering jobs abroad, BUT now I respect him for ENHANCING Nigeria's economic and socio-political space in the world.
Godwin Emefiele also said the Federal Government will soon start sourcing foreign exchange (forex) from Dangote Group, as soon as the latter’s refinery, petrochemicals and fertiliser projects come on stream.
Congratulations to DANGOTE GROUP/REFINERY, the Federal Government, and Lagos State Government for ensuring that this MASSIVE project comes on stream after the initial delays via the funding through the CBN of some aspects of the Dangote Petrochemical Refinery project!
The Refinery will have the capacity to refine 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The petrochemical plant will produce 780,000 metric tonnes of polypropylene yearly, 500,000 metric tonnes of polyethylene while the fertiliser project will produce 3.0 million metric tonnes per annum (mmtpa) of urea,” Dangote said.
Dangote added that his company is also building the largest sub-sea pipeline infrastructure in any country in the world, with a length of 1,100 kilometres, to handle three billion standard cubic feet of gas per day.
According to him, the company also plans to construct a 570 megawatt-capacity power plant in this complex. “As a matter of fact, gas from our gas pipeline will augment the natural domestic gas supply and we estimate an additional 12,000MW of power generation can be added to the grid with the additional gas from our system,” he said.
^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ This is massive... and will transform Nigeria and Africa with the BIGGEST refinery in the world!
The size of Dangote refinery is at least 10 times the size of Victoria Island!
Brilliant...
Thanks to the Moderators for putting this on the Front Page... the hope of Nigerians needs to be kept alive with this information instead of the contrived negative news and fake news on social media that leaves some of them despondent.
The cost of transportation, food cost, and other spheres of the economy will FALL and be manageable for the citizens.
With the Standard Guage rail lines being built across Nigeria such as the Lagos-Kano line... the economy will receive a further MASSIVE boost in 2019 and 2020!
All the best to Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora.
PS: Get ready to invest folks, Dangote Refinery will also be listed on the Stock Exchange. It will be profitable within 2 years of production commencement.
$9bn Dangote Refinery to Begin Test Production May 2019
"Dangote Refinery, Fertiliser Plant Will Transform Nigeria ~ Godwin Emefiele"
[b]The Dangote Industries Group has disclosed that its fertilizer plant would be ready for operations in May 2019.
This is even as the Group revealed that plans are also in place to start selling petrol, diesel and aviation fuel by early 2020 on completion the huge refinery being constructed in Lekki.
Speaking to newsmen during the facility tour at the weekend in Lagos, Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, while commending the Group for its commitment towards bringing the project on stream as planned, expressed satisfaction with the facilities on site, adding that the fertilizer plant which is now fully completed, would become operational before the end of May 2019.
Emefiele said this at the weekend during a facility tour of the project site in Epe, Lagos.
He was accompanied by the Deputy Governor, Financial System Stability, CBN, Mrs. Aisha Ahmad; President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote; top officials of the company, as well as project engineers.
Addressing journalists after the tour, the CBN governor noted that the fertilizer plant, which has been completed and due for inauguration in April, is twice the size of Eleme Petrochemical.
He also said when the refinery takes off in the first quarter of 2020, Nigeria would not only be self-sufficient in the production of refined petroleum products, but would join the league of countries that export petroleum products to other countries.
Emefiele said, “You all will attest to the fact that this is certainly a transformational project for Nigeria, and it totally keyed into the objectives of President Muhammadu Buhari that says that we need to think about how to conserve foreign exchange and diversify the economy.
Emefiele assured that Nigeria will not only be self-sufficient in the production of refined petroleum products but will also join the league of countries exporting petroleum products out of the country, once the refinery becomes operational by the first quarter of 2020.[/b]
His words, “This is certainly a transformational project for Nigeria and it totally keys into the objectives of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration that says that we need to think about how to conserve foreign exchange, how to diversify the economy and put it in proper perspective. By the time the size of foreign exchange used in importing petroleum products is dimensioned, it is at least one-third of the foreign exchange that the CBN spends to import items into Nigeria today.
The $9 billion project is funded not only by Nigerian banks, but also by foreign banks with the CBN itself contributing about N75 billion in support of the project.”
The CBN Governor restated that the apex bank will continue to support and fund individuals and companies that display the determination to help government and CBN in restructuring the economic base of the country as it stands to gain from such ventures.
Also speaking, Chief Executive Officer, Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, revealed that Nigeria would be the largest exporter of fertilizer and petrochemical alongside refined petroleum products in Africa once the plants are completed.
Dangote further noted that the projects will have a multiplier effect on the nation’s economy in terms of job creation as well as generation of foreign exchange.
He said, “ I would like to thank the Governor of the CBN for encouraging us with this project as it is transforming the Nigerian economy.
For the fertilizer plant, the CBN gave us N50 billion support and the refinery which costs about $9 billion, the CBN gave us N75 billion, that is about almost $300 million compared to $9 billion.
So the change in terms of importing 90 per cent of what we consume and also exporting one-third of these products will be a major transformation.
Again looking at the gas pipeline that we want to do which involves three billion standard cubic feet of gas supply equivalent to NLNG today and these are projects that I believe would transform the economy of Nigeria.
We hope and pray that we have other Nigerians join us in developing our own economy.”
On whether the products will be transported by roads, Dangote noted that 75 per cent of the products will be transported through sea transport, adding that the Group is in discussion with the government and the Nigerian Port Authority toward developing a bypass road from Epe to Benin-Ore road.
happney65: The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Fulani has rebuffed an accusation by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, that President Muhammadu Buhari is not a ”full-fledged Fulani man because he cannot speak Fulfulde.”
Atiku, who made the claim during a campaign rally in Jigawa State, described Buhari as a fake Fulani man, saying, “a real Fulani man would not drag his followers into extreme poverty like what is happening under the All Progressives Congress administration.”
The National Secretary, Miyetti Allah, Mr Saleh Alhassan, however, stated that Buhari’s inability to speak Fulfulde did not make him any less of a Fulani man.
Alhassan said, “The truth of the matter is that, in several places in Adamawa State, they speak Fulfulde. The fact that Atiku speaks Fulfulde doesn’t make him a Fulani man.
“If you look at Atiku physically, he doesn’t carry the biological features of a Fulani man. You look at Atiku and you see the Bantu tribe. He doesn’t belong to the Sudanic tribe.
“Also, we don’t know Atiku’s uncle and all Fulani know their uncles. Have you ever seen Atiku’s uncle? His claim to Fulani background is shrouded in uncertainty because nobody knows his uncles. Buhari’s ‘Fulani-ness’ is not in doubt. His father was an Ardo, a Fulani leader. So, I think it is not an issue.”
The Fulani leader stated that his community had rejected Atiku in the elections because he “doesn’t share in our pains and problems,” adding that the PDP candidate wanted to “use our problems and campaign with them.”
He stated, “Is Atiku not responsible for the crisis on the Mambilla Plateau? They went there, took over the land from the indigenous people and created mega farms and ranches, plunging them (Fulani) into poverty.
“If there is anybody that has created poverty, it is Atiku and the PDP. Over the 16 years they ruled this country, they virtually raped the country in a very shameful manner. It will be a disaster for Nigeria for Atiku to become president and I know God will not allow it because he doesn’t mean well for the poor people in this country.
^^^^^ ^^^^^ President Buhari's father is a Fulani, while PMB's mother is of mixed Hausa and Kanuri parentage. This is one of the reasons why PMB is loved in the Old Borno State [Yobe and Borno combined] and the NE where he was a Military Governor in the 1970s!
Atiku's paternal roots have always been shrouded in mystery.

kaykay1980: The End of Obasanjo’s Catalogue below:
Dr @fimiletoks takes Obasanjo to the cleaners, says "teacher don't teach me nonsense":
1. Last kick of a dying horse. A toad doesn't run in the afternoon..You are afraid, fear has overwhelmed you. You should have written this letter to yourself in 2003 and 2006 when we witnessed the worst elections in our history.
2. I am old enough to know who you are.. 2003 / 2007 was massively rigged, you were planning to turn Nigeria into a one-party state with Iwu. Let me remind you that you removed 3 sitting senate presidents, chased away 2 PDP chairmen, state of emergency in Plateau and Ekiti state.
3. Through your cohorts you removed Ngige, Rasheed Ladoja, Fayose, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha..
You forcefully withheld Lagos state funds just because you couldn't break Tinubu.
Murder of political opponents including a sitting Attorney General, Bola Ige, Harry Marshal, Chief Dikibo
4. Chief Dikibo, Chief Ogbonaya Uche all of ANPP. The great Chuba Okadigbo, was attacked with teargasses, he died from the attack.
Should we talk about Zaki Biam? You wiped out 300 families, deployed amoured tanks with helicopter gunship against harmless civilians..
5. You refused to apologise or acknowledge the evil perpetrated against the community, ignored the federal high court ruling to pay compensation to the victims of Zaki Biam..
Should we talk about Odi in Bayelsa? You made the place a ghost town till today they are yet to recover.
6. Should we talk a out Massob? Peter Obi ordered a shoot at sight on Massob, it was your order..5000 of them went missing.
8. Why are you afraid? Your transcorp shares? Your Bells University which you miraculously acquired after leaving prison with less than 2000 naira in your pocket or the National library which was fraudulently acquired. Your farms was dead when you came out of prison..
9. How did you revive it? What are your stakes in the oil and gas sector? Why are you crying so badly..
Letters upon letters to what effect? Would you have tolerated Saraki and Dogara in the National Assembly? You were despotic, you haunted your party members..
10. Today INEC just confirmed that APC will not be on the ballot paper for Rivers and Zamfara state elections. Who born monkey? Would this happen with you as president? Why are you after Buhari? Are you afraid that his success will make you irrelevant after 8 years?
11. PMB has achieved what you could achieve in your backyard.. He has awarded the reconstruction of the road to your ota base. Are you not happy that a rail line will pass through Ogun state? Are you not happy that Lagos - Ibadan expressway will be completed by a Fulani man?
12. Are you not happy that the Nigerian Airways workers you disengaged and the Biafran police officers you abandoned have now received their entitlement after several years? What is your grouse baba?
You are not happy that rice farmers are smiling to the bank in kebbi and ebonyi?
13. You gave us GSM and killed Nitel...oh we have thanked you enough..
What else do you want? You want to disrupt and heat up the system..you want electoral violence by discrediting INEC because you are afraid of Buhari.
14. Your letters are inconsequential because you cannot win in your local government. You formed a political party, you formed CUPP a coalition to destabilize PMB yet he is getting more popular.
You made your daughter a senator and a commisioner for Health..we did not complain..
15. Who killed Bola Ige your Attorney General? Who killed Harry Marshall? How much did you spend on power? Are you afraid of a probe?
You cannot distort history, you are actually on the same page with Abacha..
Rest well in Ota and feed your chickens, Nigeria has moved past you..
16. You complained about Boko haram but what happened when you visited the family of the leader? He was killed..by who and why?
17. In 2015 you canvassed for a dialogue with sect, now you are singing a new tune. When you visited in 2011, you gave them money and gifts..you believed Boko haram was legitimate..
18. During your tenure we had religious wars in the north, Bakassi and Egbesu boys running riot in the south east, beheading people in broad daylight. We had militancy in the south south..we had OPC in the south west..you jailed the Late Fasheun, ordered shoot at sight on OPC members
19. What exactly is on your score card? Debt forgiveness and GSM..
Teacher don't teach me nonsense..
20. Someone just reminded me of the Ife/Modakeke war, Tiv / Jukun clash.. Tales of horror all over the country during your reign..
Let me stop here..I hope this will be your last letter..
^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ Brilliant post!
All the things you posted are accurate about the DARK SIDE OF OBJ! I used to STAY off commenting on political issues but within the last one year I had to because if RIGHT thinking people keep quite, the enemies will INDOCTRINATE people who are NOT DISCERNING!
Many of the people posting HATE SPEECHES towards PMB and praising this man called OBJ were NOT born or VERY YOUNG when OBJ was misusing power as a Military and Civilian President. He was a megalomaniac and a nascisist to the core. Gani Fawehinmi has called OBJ the "Devil" before in a magazine interview, OBJ's daughter [Iyabo] has attacked her father in an open letter, Fela's Kalakuta Republic was burnt down in the late 1970s, and some of his wives were sexually assaulted by so-called unknown soldiers without COMPENSATION till date.
Now some people led by that guy called Kperogi are taunting and saying that a 76 year-old Buhari has dementia or Alzheimer's but... sorry to "burst the bubble" of these EVIL thinkers toward PMB... there is NOW a cure for Alzheimer's, Parkinson's which all cause dementia and hand/leg vibrations. I've known about these treatments for over 4 years now. PMB and anyone can get these treatment and bounce back with more youthfulness.
All those insulting PMB are NOT God!
Young and old People have memory issues that lead to "slip of tongue" as a result of tiredness or illness such as fever. If it not something to GLOAT ABOUT! PMB will get BETTER with proper care. PMB is a General and read Strategic Studies at the prestigious U.S War College in America. It is wrong for some ill-informed people like OBJ and some young ones online to start abusing him because he has slight challenges! You should all get real and know that God does not give you a challenge you cannot handle!
Franklin D. Roosevelt was the 32nd President of the United States from 1933 until his death in 1945... Not only did he serve an unprecedented FOUR TERMS in office, but he was also the first president with a significant physical disability and used wheel-chairs as the President. FDR was diagnosed with infantile paralysis, better known as POLIO, in 1921, at the age of 39.

CastedDude: Operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team, IRT, have recovered 13 buildings, 10 cars, two tippers, a trailer truck and three AK-47 rifles from a notorious kidnapper, Collins Ezenwa, who is popularly known as E-Money.
It was gathered that E-Money, a dismissed policeman that had been terrorising Imo, Abia, Enugu and Rivers states, was killed during a gunfight with the Police from Imo State Police Command in Owerri last year, where he had gone to kidnap a businessman. Police
He was said to have acquired several property with proceeds from his exploits in kidnapping and robbery in the South-East and South-South states.
Police sources disclosed that E-Money, who coordinated several kidnapping and robbery gangs in Imo State and environs, met his Waterloo after he kidnapped a South Africa-based businessman.
A source at the IRT disclosed to Vanguard that in ensuring that the suspect paid for his crime, IRT trace his property to Enugu, Abia and Imo states.
A source, who spoke to Vanguard on the condition of anonymity, said: “Four of his buildings, including a hotel, was recovered in Enugu State. Seven were traced to Owerri and Okigwe areas of Imo State, while one was traced to Aba, Abia State.
The source added that seven cars, two SUVs, one Hilux truck, a commercial bus, two tipper-lorries and a trailer truck were equally recovered at several locations within the South-East.
^^^^^ ^^^^^ He has now turned to "Analog Money" after being killed in a gunfight. One down ... more to go!
These kidnappers are so brutal... after kidnapping people they proceed to brutally beat up the men and gang rape the women... and still collect the ransome money. Pray you don't fall into their hands.
The IRT technology of the NPF has been fantastic in tracking these criminals.
If you see the way the guy was running riot in the Ooni thread ehn
His claim to Benin greatness begins and ends with sculptures. Nonsense!
^^^^^ ^^^^^ ... Yes I now remember the guy from the thread you talked about. I don't know where the guy get's the negative energy for typing unverified facts from... he must be on some kind of cheap synthetic steroids.
How can he say "Oba" is a word of Bini origin when Oba Ewuare 11 himself said in his speech that Oranmiyan was the first Oba of Bini followed by Oba Eweka and that he is the 40th Oba in the Oranmiyan/Eweka Dynasty. Some of these people just don't read functional historical books and articles!
That is how one revisionist goon [after smoking weeds or something, embarassingly went about falsely claiming online that Ibos are the aborigenes of Abeokuta and that Ijebu-Igbo are Ibos and it went viral. I agree... and I have known this since the early 1990s that there are similarities in a few words in Yoruba and Ibo, but this is CLEARLY as a result of the Igala [A yoruboid language with direct links with Idoma language as well] influences on Northern Ibo groups like the Nri who have Igala ancestry among them in Enugu/Anambra axis, etc. Infact the current Attah of Igala His Royal Majesty, Dr. Michael Idakwo Ameh Oboni, said his Igala people came partly from Wukari[Jukun] in present-day Taraba State and merged with a significant group of Yoruba and Bini people with some Ibo.
~~~~~~ ~~~~~~ Is the oracle consulted to determine the person that would become the king from a dynasty?
When the coronation ceremony starts properly in Idah, they will go to the burial ground and carry nine Ifa priests in the night, and all the priests would stay and do their divination to see how the Attah’s reign would be...
Would you mind telling us the origin of the Igala people?
"Talking about the origin of the Igala people, a sizeable group migrated from Wukari in Taraba State from where they came to Benue along the River Benue and continued very close to the confluence at a place called Amagede by River Benue and slightly down from Amagede downwards to Idah and they settled there. And there, they met a sizeable population of the Yorubas and the Benins and to some extent, some Igbo. So the migrant population from Wukari merged with them and produced a language called Igala as a people."
Words such as Ifa in Yoruba and Afa in Ibo, Okuta in Yoruba and Okute in Ibo, Egungun in Yoruba and Egwugwu in Ibo, Ewure in Yoruba and Ewu in Ibo, Akuku in Yoruba and Okuko in Ibo, Ewa in Yoruba and EGWA/AGWA as beans in Igala and Ibo... could ONLY have found there way in through the Igala landbridge separating the Yoruba/Igala in the present Kogi State, and Anambra/Enugu states.
In actual sense, Ijebu-Igbos say they migrated from Ijebu-Ode, while Abeokuta was settled by Egba immigrants from Ibadan... with Owu migrants as well! These guys don't even have a comprehensive history of their ethnic groups and just try to STEAL other peoples' histories. From my knowledge of history, Yorubas don't practice osu, kingship system, the cultures relating to marriage, inheritance of property by children, style of dressing at the turn of the century [Ibos were dressed half-nake.d while Yoruba were fully clothed and made quality cloths and textiles for several centuries and had a powerful Oyo Empire while the small tribes that made up what is now Ibo were in small republican settings] and more, clearly show that there is NO direct ancestral link between the Yoruba and Ibo.
samuk: STOP PROMOTING IGBO CULTURE, SAYS DEIN OF AGBOR The Dein of Agbor Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Dr. Benjamin Ikenchukwu Keagborekuzi I, has enjoined his subjects to stop promoting Igbo culture, describing the Agbor culture as ‘unique and peculiar’.
IMG_9531 STOP PROMOTING IGBO CULTURE, SAYS DEIN OF AGBOR
The Dein gave the admonition at his palace recently while giving his royal blessings to the new Iregwa of Ogbemudien Community, Pa. Bogi Abagi. He called on the good people of Agbor Kingdom to join hands with him to effect the changes he desires to be in place. According to him, “I am back and happy to be in the midst of my subjects. This kind of gathering gives me joy because it is an opportunity for me to learn more from my people. There is room for change, therefore my wish and desire for my subjects is that they adopt and respect every change that is being made. Going through the history of Agbor Kingdom, one will thank the gods for wisdom. Thus, everyone will join hands with me to reposition things the way they ought to be in order to restore our lost glory”.
He called on all Agbor indigenes to preserve Agbor culture and stop promoting Igbo culture. His words, “stop giving our children Igbo names. The native names given to our children should be pronounced and written in Agbor language and not in Igbo or Ika language as Agbor has its own unique language. The Igbo red cap should also be dropped as it is not a native cap for Agbor Kingdom. Soon, I will start driving away my palace chiefs who are fond of coming to the palace, wearing in red caps. Agbor traditions should be respected and preserved for future generations. Parents and the elderly should teach our children and the youths the culture of Agbor”.
The Odion of Agbor Kingdom, Chief Julius Ochei who led the new Iregwa and the people of Ogbemudien to the Dein’s Palace for blessing, said the Iregwa title goes to the oldest man in Ogbemudien Community, stating that it is the turn of Pa. John Bogi Abagi who is 89 years and the oldest man. The Iregwa, according to Chief Ochie is the traditional head of Ogbemudein Community in Agbor Kingdom.
In a chat with Ika Weekly Newspaper Reporter, the Chairman of Ogbemudien Community, Hon. Simon Okpali lauded the Dein for his wealth of knowledge and prayed the good Lord to empower him. He expressed his confidence in the new Iregwa of Ogbemudien to lead well and thanked the Dein for his blessings.
Julius Ehiabor, the Onu-otu of Ogbemudein Community, on his part, said Pa. Abagi leadership is good and that the good people of Ogbemudien Community are happy. He prayed God to give the new Iregwa good health and long life.
Mr. Johnbull Okwuogori Aghaulor felicitating with the Iregwa, appealed to him to continue to lead them in truth. He prayed God to bless the Dein of Agbor, the Iregwa, Ogbemudein Community and Agbor Kingdom.
Responding, Pa. Abagi thanked the Dein, saying that his joy knows no bounds, while soliciting for the cooperation of every son and daughter of Ogbemudein Community to enable him give the Dein the needed support to move Agbor Kingdom forward.
Very interesting!
I have friends from Agbor who identify as Ika with Edo surnames but with an Iboid subculture due to interactions with nearby Anioma communities.
Obaigbena, Irabor, Ovia are some popular surnames from Agbor in Delta State.
As for the red cap it is originally of Igala origin and was introduced into the Nsukka area by Igala people. Yorubas of Kogi and Kwara also wear red chieftaincy caps. It is not strictly an Ibo creation!
