Yankdreamer: Hello Guys, i have been following this post quietly for sometime now and i'd hoped i'll come here today to give the good news but..Good knows best, below is how my interview went;
VO - Why do u wanna go to the US Me - Im going for masters program in IS at ... VO - Why MSIS Me - Because it is an advanced degree that combines the technical foundation of compt science and key business concepts and information, as a grad of compt science and haven worked in the field for a while, it'll help me have a better understanding of the design, development & implementation of IS to enhance business process..cited an example that most organisations here dont have competent IS professional and thats why they always prefer to outsource IT departments...bla boa VO - (was busy typing without looking at me) why the school Me - The schools curriculum is focused on helping students understand the use to IS to enhance business operations, the curriculum is flexible and mostly research oriented and their faculties are well experienced professionals in the field. VO - I see here you applied to ... uni last year as an undergrad Me - Yes, i actually applied for a masters degree but the Admission officer adviced that i do undergrad first cos of my low grades and then transfer after a year..so that was the plan but the consular that interviewed me insist i can get schools that'll offer me a grad admission..and so here i am. VO - Did you take any test Me - No, i was admitted based on my undergrad n professional certs (i should've shown him something - first flop) VO - What will u do after the program Me - Come back to my place of work to apply the knowledge n experiences learnt in the states because my current job requires expertise in the field VO - Who's paying Me - My brother is sponsoring VO - What does he do Me - Realtor (i should have brought out the letter n statement but i didn't, waiting for him to ask but he didnt---2nd flop i think) VO - Im sorry you do not qualify for bla bla bla at this time
I know i started off well but was relaxed later so i'm thinking of paying another application fee right away, i need advices. NB..they were generally brutal today, i have travelled before (not to US though) n he saw my visas tot that would help bt it wasnt a yard stick. I would have considered taking any of the test but i don't think that was why he refused me so and i dont want my sevis payment to go down the drain..i applied for Spring 2013 so i still have lotta time..
Thoughts!!! Sorry bro!!!! But that's the reason why he rejected u, u had low grades but u didn't beef up ur resume by doing gre. . . that doesn't paint u as a serious candidate |

ferdiii: That GRE score is too poor. I know 300(300-800) of old rating is 138(130-170)of the new one. For new scale most schools accept from 153 and above for both Verbal & Quantitative and 4.5 Analytical. Anyway if am right, just redo the test. Don't agree. . . . For Engineering, quantitative is most important and she scored 157 = 730 old score which is quite high, she has a good chance. . . . . |

GA and fellowships are unconditional, whether good results or not, it all depends on the funds availabe with the school and how early you apply and also area of research interest, inf any professor is ready to employ you, the truth is, you either go there wiv lil u can, n u can get a goodjob on campus, or try to apply to @least 4 schools and u can get wah u need. 300 is ok, and wahs ur cgpa? Mo creations: Hello house, please I need your advice. I wrote Gre november 2011, immediately after my nysc. I was intending to start fall this year(2012). My gre score(300) wasn't high enough as was hoping to get grants(in any form) to sponsor the program. Well, I went ahead and applied. One school in usa and another in canada. I got an offer of admission from the usa school (illinous institute of tech.), without grants. I was told to send my financial statement to get my SEVIS I-20. But for the fact that I didn't intend to sponsor myself I just waited. Months later I got a job with a research institute under The federal govt. So, I deffered the admission till fall 2013. Please house, what can I do to get financial help. Or should I write gre again? As I wish to go latest next year. I'm a lady by the way in her early 20's. Best ask a relative or retake the gre and apply to those skools the members here have said usually give GA. . . . Plus whats the break down of the 300?? |

emmanuelkim: Please you guys have been complaining that we are not posting, the reason i stop is that no one want to help again, just because some of you that have gotten your VISA, you have forgotten that you started like this, But that God for the likes of Imperioux, dr_dolittle, kpoli, king01,justwise, despite their study they still find the time to come and solve some problems, May God bless you all that have been trying to carry us along,
please this are the issue bothering me, Even if we are going to the part 4, i will need a 100% advice there too, please you guy should not fail to answer this question?
must read: In my first DS-160 Form that i filled,before the interview, instead of putting parent as sponsor, i put self and also i use my friend address, but when i called the embassy, they told me to fill a new DS-160 from, so i filled it and made those correction, could it be the reason the VO was just typing and typing and gave me the white slip
I will also be going soon, but in my last DS-160, I did not put that i have graduated o, it was during the interview that i told the VO That i have a first degree, Also in my last ds-160 i put not employed because i was working for my Dad, but if put it now, will it make any difference considering the fact that my dad do not pay me through but cheque, also i have a Non-registered business in Nigeria,should i put all this in my New DS-160 Form, why am asking all this question, i want to show a strong tie to Nigeria
Please what do you advice my on this bothering question Abuja embassy is too cold, almost shaking inside, what should i do? What if the VO ask me that You already have a first degree, why going for a first degree?
This question is failing most of us that have gone before to interview before what if the VO said 'why do u want to change career? When Did you finish high school? What have you been doing?
Please should i add those changes in my new DS-160 Form As yvete said, ur statement of purpose should help u on y ur going for another degree. . . Put ur working for ur dad, but not show about ur private biz since its unregistered and myt make it seem u formed it for the interview. . . . As long as ur statement of acct shows a certain cheque enters ur acct every month, its fine. . . . There r jobs like that here |

Yvete: @poopppyLiillyy:
Just like Walex57 said, you need to be more convincing when you communicate with the VO. Its OK if the VO don't ask typical questions like, why US? Why XYZ University..... You have to state your case in the best way possible. Think of the question broadly, and link important info to them.
Most importantly, remember that you're considered a potential migrant so you need to establish strong ties with Nigeria (From the excerpts of your interview, I think you did that just fine). I think you need to practice in front of a mirror. Practice your answers to all the questions from part 1 of this thread using strong points to sell yourself.
I think Oct 22 is too soon. Please chill till mid/late- November to prepare. Even if your school waived standardized tests, you should have written TOEFL/IELTS. The VO wants to see your academic abilities and your preparedness on studies. Even though some people got their visa w/o test scores, opting out could be seen academically as lazy/unprepared *I think. Bravo! |
