I wouldn't use the term compound fool, but he is beyond accurate on his assertion. Nigerians want to work in a multinational but always forget Unilever is gotten from the name of the Lever Brothers,P&G is the name of two people Procter and Gamble who started a business. For those that acquire all the certifications in the world to land a good job abroad, Goldman Sachs naa person name,so is Wells Fargo and JP Morgan, Cargill,Koch Industries etc etc. Build something in your own country and pass it on to your children's children like the Indians are doing. |

I would rather live and die here among my kind than in a land that was built with the sweat of my ancestors. Slavery in the past they kidnapped you and sold you in far away lands, but today you willingly offer yourself for a few of life's comforts. There is more to life than constant electricity and great infrastructure. There is something called human dignity. |

For those who always shout about opportunities abroad, please take out time this weekend to read about the travails of Tidjane Thiam, the erstwhile CEO of Credit Suisse and understand that no matter how high you climb in the ladder of success abroad, some are waiting at the top to remind you that you were simply riding a wave that you didn't create. In contrast, you must be a criminal to fall from grace like that in your own country. |

Home is your source and with your kind. In old age many here would realize it would actually have been better off had we developed our country than toiling abroad. No matter how bad Nigeria is,it is still a blank canvass for the creative mind. Many including those who live abroad are ignorant of the history of the areas into which they settled. It all started out as Virgin land, then humans came followed by chaos including open sewers in places like London and New York but over time some people stood up and fixed these countries. We like the end product but hate the process. Less than a percent of a percent of migrants abroad will be remembered for anything. Home is Nigeria and home is where the work and the glory is. |

As trendier neighborhoods sprung up in the residential space,so did the trend move from Marina to other parts of Lagos. Manufacturing companies moved to Ogba,Ilupeju,Oregun while banks and stock broking firms stayed in Marina. The move into Victoria Island didn't start till the 90s as it was predominantly residential. However there is a term called urban renaissance, and just like everywhere else,Marina will become trendy again, but not just yet. It will take serious growth in the economy and a lack of space for a rapidly expanding middle class for Marina to breathe again. |
Politics › Re: Why Have Nigerians Abandoned Marina District In Lagos? by kushe: 7:17pm On Dec 03, 2020 |
I also remember Marina from way back and yes it use to be great. However ,what Marina is experiencing is not unique to Lagos. It has happened in New York and also in London. Marina was the edge of the colonial world and that was why development was predominantly in that axis. Lagos was a really small place pre independence and Marina was the central business district and that was mainly because of the activities at the ports which were located at Marina for passengers and across the lagoon at Apapa for cargo. |

We are saved by grace through faith. Jesus has paid the price for our past and future sins. The only reason anyone will be going to hell is for rejecting God on the cross in the place of Jesus the son. Most other theories on hell are simply man made and don't tally with the words recorded in the bible after the resurrection of Christ. |

executive12: In the developed world, a genuine Christian can become a billionaire, of course. One very useful invention can make you a billionaire without having to cut corners. Many examples abound. Not so in Nigeria, a huge criminal enterprise. In fact, my observation is that you cannot really go about your daily activities in Nigeria without cutting corners. It's just not possible. Corruption is basically a way of life in Nigeria. Visit a government office, money must change hands. I read on this forum, how an employed lady proudly announced that she is dropping her unemployed boyfriend because the boyfriend failed to give her money for her birthday. Anything you do in Nigeria, money must change hands. Yet some of you believe that someone can become a billionaire in Nigeria without cutting corners. Yeah right. Just to drive around, you have to give bribe here and there. Just that you may not regard what you are doing as bribe in order not to feel bad. A typical Nigerian likes to live in denial. We have a very hypocritical and insincere society. You guys can continue deceiving yourselves and living in denial. As to your question about whether I am a genuine Christian and if I believe it is impossible for me to become a billionaire then. Of course I am a genuine Christian, obviously a pragmatist, definitely not a hypocrite and never in denial (unlike you). Unlike you, I'm not too naive to believe I can become wealthy in Nigeria without cutting corners. So I don't limit my horizon to the criminal enterprise we call a country. Nigeria is a mess but who will fix it.You and I. Start by obeying traffic lights when all the cars behind you are honking like lunatics and telling you Waka. Also in the new Nigeria we don't wind down and throw thrash out of our car windows.Baby steps my dear and one day it will happen. |

If you pray for a sick man for example and he gets healed and comes back to reward you with say 10 million naira, would you have to pay taxes on the money Even though I don't agree with sis executive,I disagree with you. Maybe I am naive but I grew up in a community where it was believed that holiness meant dressing funny, not wearing perfume and generally just waiting for Jesus to come back. Why do you expect people to be buying and selling something before making money? What do motivational speakers sell? Nobody can choose to be a pastor. You are called into it. That's why there are many failed pastors. You would agree with me that there are more failed preachers than successful ones no? How so? He died poor that we might be rich is in the bible no? ThothHermes: This is a big lie. There are principles guiding wealth and prosperity from the Bible. There is an exactitude to genuine wealth with terms attached. In fact, one of terms is that you do away with financial misconduct of any kind. Job 22: 23-24
Bishop Oyedepo, Pastor Chris, Pastor Ibiyeomie and others know and practice these principles that's why they are so rich. There's a covenant of wealth for interested believers. Deuteronomy 8:18. I think it is extemely charitable to leave out pastors names when talking about billionaires. What businesses do they run?Should young people desire to be pastors so they can be rich? The wealth attributed to pastors in Nigeria to me is an aberration. |

triplechoice: A Christian is not suppose to be a billionaire whether through the cutting of corners or hard work
To become a billionaire or be regarded as one you need to hoard wealth.
And it is difficult to hoard wealth when you have lots of poor around you Also a billionaire seeks security from his wealth instead of God.
It is due to the above reasons Jesus told the rich Man to sell all his property and give to the poor .
But the rich man was unablet do so because he trusted more in his wealth which he can see than in a God he cannot see and wasn't ready to let go of what gives him security. And so according to the Bible, it is easier for a camel ..................
You don't hoard money to become a billionaire, you create value that is calculated to have exceeded a billion. Nigeria is not only poor monetarily but we have a poverty mentality just like the African Americans still have a slavery mentality. |

Jaspernubi: It is a very hard thing to maintain a clean heart and constant relationship with God when Mammon is in involved. Jesus answers that questions " And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." Matthew 19;24 so, I have seen most rich people giving out their wealth to the poor just to retain constant walk with Jesus. It sounds foolish the unregenerate heart, If only you know what Peace with God is, you will always run away from whatever it will take to loose it.
Riches in itself is not bad, it is just too hard to maintain a constant gaze on God and his glory and to abide in Christ when mammon shares a seat in the soul, Ask rich men what they go through, Even Otedola is constantly giving it out for fear thinking he can attain righteousness by donation. The greatest trial of a true Christian is Riches Bill Gates is the biggest philanthropist in our modern world but does he believe in God! You can't buy salvation by giving alms,it is a free gift of God.We give as Christian's because we have been given.God gave himself for us hung on a tree to die.God appreciates our good deeds but it doesn't buy us salvation and besides God wants us to experience the joy of giving. The word says it is more blessed to give than to receive and that is something rich people and rich nation's understand. |

Do you know what transpired before he could get concession from the State government? I will be surprised if money did not change hands. The Pastor and the civil servants involved will obviously not call it bribe. But I will bet that money changed hands. I don't know of any Nigerian government office you can go to transact business and not drop a little something here and there. If that is the case, then some corners have been cut. Yonce: Poverty is not a mindset. Poverty is many people's reality. Poverty is what many disadvantaged individuals are born into. Poverty is what said individuals try their best to escape. Poverty is the result of a failed system designed to keep the disadvantaged. . . disadvantaged so the children of the elite who benefit from the system don't have to compete for opportunities.
Poverty is not a mindset, it is an inescapable reality for many of the world's population. So how come most billionaires come from nothing? There are poor people in America,in Canada,in Australia and even in Norway. My sister, poverty is a mind thing. |
