All of you shouting western countries and prison, chill.Civilized people dont just whisk their citizens away to jail. They investigate, ask questions that delve into the safety practices of the family and the locality they reside in and finally they make recommendations for the benefit of all and to prevent future accidents. An accident is what it is,an accident.Maybe with a little consideration here and there,it could have been prevented, but sad this happened. Let me give you jail scenarios. If for instance the parents are known child abusers especially if there had been previous reports by family or neighbors.Reckless abandonment like leaving the child alone at home and going shopping like happened ten houses down the road from me.Many years ago,the occupant of that house on my street locked her children in as she went to the saloon .I think it was a sunday afternoon and so a fire started.Everyone was around to help but no one could get into the house. The children died holding on to the burglary sreaming for help from horrified neighbors that just watched helplessly. |
oga above ,you seem rather ignorant and unaware of cultural trends worldwide .Culture is the accepted way a group of people live their lives based on geographic location, ethnicity ,religion, exposure to foreign influences and a myriad of other factors.Social interraction via the internet is the new influencer of culture and now it has become normal for a global sensation to be adapted by loads of people who are allowed to put their own spin on the material whether they change the words or not.It happened with Adele's 'hello' and has happened with the Childish Gambino track .Do you think Childish Gambino is worried Falz is reaping him off?Of course not, because every cover is publicity for the original owner of the material and over there where things work publicity is equal to more money. Falz has always been a social advocate and you can check out his earlier works if you are not convinced .Tuface and Eldee have been social advocates,M.I too,but what about you the critic, how have you advanced the course of this country. To the man naming and shaming celebrities for not helping, they become famous because of their work .Only illiterates think 'celebrity' is a profession.A celebrity is a celebrated or widely acclaimed person, from photographers,to stylists, cartoonists to writers, actors, athletes, musicians etc.If you are so bent on helping others, why not start from your own tiny sphere of influence. |
It is okay to migrate but even in the bible, the highest ranking or most successful Jew ever outside of Israel who happened to be Joseph asked that his remains not be left in Egypt where he prospered and became prime minister.God makes no mistakes and he sure knows for what purpose he made us Nigerians. If Naija is so bad, wetin Togo people suppose talk, yet the best washmen in naija are Togolese.Should I talk about masons carpenters and decorative Pop works? While lazy nigerian youth queue up at embassies looking for visas the Togolese queue up at bus parks in Lome heading to Ibeju Lekki to build future homes for shelter starved Nigerians. How about the Indians and Chinese who flock into naija daily. Ask anyone conversant with Ilupeju and enquire about who the best tenants are always willing to pay above average rent so they can be close to their factories in Matori,Ilupeju and Oshodi.Do people ever wonder what these people are doing here, while we keep complaining about Naija? |
The moment I step into London, the first thing I always wanna do is get on an underground train and marvel at a century old technology .I have done this consistently since I was a teenager,so maybe London or the West has lost its allure.London,Chicago or Dubai dont excite me anymore, because they are the achievements of other people. What happened to our own God given ability to create? I am so excited whenever I see those train tracks approaching Marina, that is our own, no matter how medieval our own technology is.Going abroad to hustle is like a very talented artist always staying in galleries admiring the works of other artists instead of creating his own. When will other people come to admire his own works.Sadly we have become a nation of migrants going anywhere that is not Naija including Guam,Fiji and Suriname.Sadly we dont even integrate well with our adopted homelands as we still crave naija food ,attend naija churches and generally still cluster in groups where we can still behave like we do in naija. If you dont believe me,spend enough time in Peckham or Hackney in London and you just might see someone driving one way or begging you for money in yoruba. |
People see things from different perspectives .Dangote was launched in Nigeria and is now taking over the continent and the world took notice. If you like ,locate Eldorado and migrate there,as long as that country has natives,or ethnicities that are naturalised there, you will die a foreigner without the full rights accorded its own. No matter who is in power, how do you ignore a market of 200Million people.Just watch out for the billionaires lists of 2028,there will be many more Nigerians but I can almost bet that absolutely NONE of them will be ressident in Canada,USA,UK or Australia.Prosperity is in the mind and has nothing to do with location.I live in Naija and I am overwhelmed by a faithful heavenly father. |
To all the nairaland analysts, what have you done to better naija other than demonstrate how well you think and write? Apostle Suleiman put the pedal to the metal and damned the consequences, now 2baba is using his celebrity and good will to do the same and some of you are still complaining. Carry go with your predicament then if good people like 2baba cannot fight for those that turned him into a super star. For those calling him uneducated, how has your own education benefitted your village? And for those pointing out his lack of moral standing to lead a protest because he has 3 different baby mamas, well Obasanjo led this country at two different times and is easily one of the most influential nigerians but personally I know four of his sons from four different women and those are the ones me I know and I guarantee you there are countless others. I have always loved 2baba, I admire his courage by organising this protest and #istandwith2baba |
@sincere 4 u Well said son, mmm is for temporary relief. Keep working on your dreams and one day you will just break out and experience true wealth. Imagine any young animal growing within the confines of a shell, say a chick or a lizard, they can move, but they are not free. They can even respond to external stimuli, yet they are confined. All of a sudden, at the right time, the shell cracks and the comfort zone that was home can no longer contain them. Son, dream, grow and become unstoppable in name of him that could not be stopped. |
Cocoice is not a very confident person and the kd guy seems very irritable. The akwa ibom guy is lost and uriel was feeling really hot till she saw two oyinbo chicks and a cute nerd. |
Agbaya like me, watching bbro, I doesnt believe it. Already like bisola (was a fan from instagram) so that aint fair. I like miyonse and marvis, I guess they will be best friends in the house. My money however is on bisola or that warri boy to win. |
I hope they film the entire event cos me I luff documentaries. Pls dont Kill him, forced humility has a look and I wanna see Jammeh wear it. |
Isnt God just totally Awesome. I am sure we as humans havent even discovered most of his works yet. |
Only extremely delusional people would actually believe mmm is coming back in january. The scheme is dead and dusted and this month window is only an artficial one for the adherents of the joke to re think their future. If you have a job, try keeping it cos 2017 will be tough with many a layoffs yet to come. Dont waste cash cos it will be scarce in 2017, ignore all this rubbish schemes and save your money no matter how little. If you dont have a job, congratulations because nigeria is in dire need of solutions providers in various fields who would become rich by solving a problem and creating value and not eroding it. The El Chapos and Escobars of Latin America provide help to millions who grow, refine and courier their drugs, but ultimately no value is created, rather only violence, death and destruction of destinies. Mmm never created any value cos for everyone who esapes unscathed, two or more would be severely burnt. |
If you have eyes, bookmark what i am about to write. The recession is going to be wickid for the lower rungs of the economic ladder in 2017 and partly to blame will be the mop up of cash due to the collapse of alternate finanicial services MMM being chief. my dear friends, cash will be king next year. Dont spend it anyhow, liquidate every stupid scheme you are involved in, count your losses and move on. If you have spare cash, put it in a fixed deposit even if the rate is 1%per annum because remember, you are saving cash. The major preoccupation of a lot of people will be begging in 2017, avoid the impending scarcity, draw u a budget, remove unnecessary expenditure and live frugally. A word is enough for the listening. |
@ berrystunn I just feel imnense sadness on behalf of your self acclaimed intellect. Go and find legitimate work and if you have, work hard and look for existing gaps and needs you can meet. You guys ranting in support of mmm are just like the crowd that refused to go home when the stock market crashed in 1929. It was reported that there was a constant humm in the air, the sound of thousands of desperate investors all seeking answers at the same time. It starts with stunning bewilderment, followed by denial and rationalization. I laugh at the so called mavrodians calming frayed nerves. U dey the board meeting when una decide to freeze the shitty thing? I told someone on sunday that mmm could not enter February, I was so wrong, the thing did not even have legs that could carry it till christmas.' Mavrodians ', what a joke. Go and work all of you, daydreaming and scheme chasing will not get Nigeria out of recession. |
I hope most of the people writing these comments are married. It is easy to defend a character flaw in defiance especially our women but I pray none of you have to endure seeing your spouse end up with someone else who is everything you are not or refused to be. God help us all, marriage is not moi moi. |
Op your wife might never change cos mine didnt until I changed. How did I change, I allowed God to change me. While plotting my divorce strategy, I refused to attend our church and decided to attend another church. It was there God began to open my eyes as they dealt on the issues of relationships for about a month. A guest minister from the us was candid enough about his own marital travails for 18 years, and then it hit me. I could be happy if I wanted to. I was like a loaded gun, my wife simply pulled the trigger. I was like a soldier in peacetimes, trained for war but nowhere to fight. I was experiencing conflict cos I was prone to conflict, but God changed me and when I changed, my wife started to change. |
I totally know your wife cos I am married to her too, but add this, my wife just hates spending money eventhough she earns quite a bit, so if i like make bills Kill me, she has a template for answering the question 'so what do you do with your money?' And whenever i Vex, I better join the vaseline crew like they say on nairaland but since i wont do that, omo u never jam frustration |
I was on the verge of leaving my wife earlier this year, but naa my house, problem no 1.I couldnt pursue her cos we have a son that I cant live without, and even if i succeeded in keeping my son, I cant take care of him. I dont do homework, cant cook and cant baff him twice a day and sort his laundry. Eventhough we have help, my wife still is a superwoman i figured, but a super hero with issues like pride, stubborness and stinginess. |
Op wetin be your wife name? How tall is she cos I swear we are married to the same woman. I will give you correct advise cos ur wife is obviously a younger version of mine and it only gets better when you develop 'amojukuro' if not you go run mental. |
Alaye, double your hustle, if you wan be like linda ikeji oooo. Shout out to orezi, that tune is fire, got me mad at recession. Recession or not, the land is green and like linda ikeji, I am the future. Shout out to ty bello. |
Linda ikeji is the closest person we have to tech wealth in nigeria. We hear of young founders of facebook, instagram, snapchat and twitter and how they came into sudden wealth but who are the tech founders that have made it in nigeria. Where are the founders of jumia, konga, eazy taxi and how profitable are these companies or are they haemorraging cash. Linda ikeji should inspire you and not cause bile to run into ur bowels at the mention of her name. She must have a sponsor, didnt ur whole village have an August meeting to buy you that techno phone you are typing rubbish on? Go check her alexia rankings and figure. Her whatever stinks, and how about that of your wife or side chick? Can u attempt to go down on her if she no baff for river jordan? Her sister irritates you, wont you be a fool if you had a family member who suddenly came into wealth and you just dey look dey analyse. Dont worry about Laura, I guess you can judge her in five years after she has refused to achieve anything on her own. Linda inspires me and it is irrelevant whether she marry or not, how many married women are happy and fulfilled? |
If we dont starting producing as a nation, we are doomed. America and Theodore Roosevelt tried everything during the great depression but nothing worked then luck smiled at them when war broke out in the rest of the world. Germany, Russia, England and Japan were at war spending all their human and material resources to execute the war while America refused to join the war till Japan bombed Pearl Habour. It was the need to go to war that saved Americas economy as people got jobs in the defense industries that sprang up overnight and people who had held no jobs for close to a decade were suddenly drafted into the army. We need a miracle folks cos Russia, venezuela and Angola are all facing the same crisis but compared to us, what is Angola's population? We need what the second world war did for America. |
As sad as it may seem, the only way to get out of this recession is heavy government spending. Fiscal tightening will not do jack as more people will simply slip into poverty and hunger. We need infrastructure spending, large scale commissioning of private sector initiatives backed by government guarantees. The recession is biting harder because people are not spending and even those that have are afraid of Buhari's policies. |
While Dangote has done well for himself, he might be out of his lane. One of the cardinal rules of infrastructure finance is that you dont use short term funds to finance long term needs. If u sell nlng today, it will enter the rubbish TSA where 36 elected vultures are waiting to feast on the carcas. The sad part is they wont be able to account for the money in 2 years and it will pain us when the price of oil rebounds. buhari no try am. |
Uber has conquered the world including naija but when dem enter china, naa die. Their unicorn status and finanicial war chest couldnt save dem from a local player that was already on ground and understood the terrain. They are exiting china because the environment defied logic and naija is worse. If you like go Harvard, wharton and Oxford together, for naija all man naa learner when it comes to running a business. |
Everyone wants to own a business yet most wont treasure the experiences of those that have failed. He said perception is greater than reality, what if his mismanagement of his perceived opportunity is just a perception. Someone talked about his church life and another talked about his chicks flying first Class. So who dey lie? Go and read Richard Branson's account of fighting monopoly, naa die for jand talkless of scattered naija. Glasses up Mr Subair. |
Foolish Nigerians urging their government to bankrupt a private enterprise.una never see unemployment. When poverty strikes so hard that cannibalism becomes the only source of animal protein, una go get sense. |
@rman Make we leave this people but I am glad I found a reasonable person on this forum regarding this issue. I visit nairaland every day but I just browse through the main topics on front page to keep myself abreast with developments in naija but this MTN issue pains me to the very core of my being.i am saddened that a majority of people including some of my friends I have spoken to about the issue feel MTN should pay. I don tire for my naija people ooo, reminds me of what they did to John D Rockefeller when the govt broke his company to bits and pieces cos even America was afraid of big business and the same sentiments as we have in naija now pervaded America then.Standard oil is too big, break them up and allow their competitors breathe, why should one man be so wealthy? Well the government listened then but hasn't tried any such move ever since cos they know it is bad for a free market economy.John D Rockefeller even went on to become wealthier when the various units of his business were floated separately.I wish MTN had a similar exit strategy cos who would have thought Mobil, chevron,Exxon all belonged to one man in the beginning. |
Poverty is in the mind and reading these comments I am beginning to understand why Nigerians are so poor and underdeveloped. If entrepreneurs and big businesses didn't develop the abroad some of us run to or live in,would America be what it is today. Nigerians are very socialist in their mindset expecting the government to do everything for them including stealing from rich successful people and businesses and sharing the loot with them. Socialism has failed the world over and will never succeed in Nigeria, not in a billion years. China was a communist country with government trying to do everything till their leaders had a rethink and opened up the country. China is only communist in word as their deeds are capitalist . Now I would rather a rich prosperous nigeria like China than a socialist poor nigeria like the China of 40 years ago. People that hate rich people will die poor,it is not a curse,it is just the way the world works. Naa pepsin start MTN,go and start your own business and stop basking in your bankruptcy of ideas. |
@egbonnia Ok let me lie that I agree with you,but how can you fine one company 1 trillion naira in a year of a record budget of 6 trillion naira. So Nigeria cannot fund its budget except it cripples a foreign company? You know what? MTN will not pay that fine,Buhari will flex his muscles and the company will most likely be nationalized and then some opportunists will buy the company and ruin it. You can buy the shell of a company but you can never buy the content because it is intangible. That MTN yellow is about to turn black as other networks absorb their customer base and crash under the weight of carrying a giant with poorly developed muscles. MTN,call their bluff and let history judge. Buhari, leave MTN alone and go and develop your economy. He who fights and runs today, lives to fight another day.Stop postponing judgment day and let us collectively pay for electing visionless leaders. |
The fine is more irresponsible than whatever it was MTN did. What is the size of our economy that you are fining one company 5 or 3 billion dollars. How many companies in Nigeria have a turnover of 1 billion dollars.it is not their fault, naa Abacha wey loot billions make people think say billions of dollars naa small money. Sorry Dasuki not Abacha, dat one cover face as he dey loot, the other one shine eye wella. |
